Local dive with friendly service. My wife and I stopped in late on Friday and it turned out to be karaoke night. Only thing available at that time was the pizza, which is totally fine it was getting late. Pizza was pretty expensive, but I get that island prices are elevated. That being said it was a good and large pizza with generous toppings, I think we easily got our money's worth. The hostesses/waitress was friendly. Probably the slowest service I've ever received at a restaurant. Would have left to find food and better service elsewhere, but we were hungry while traveling and remembered having stopped here before. Should have known it wasn't going to be a great experience when we had to flag someone down to be seated after awkwardly standing around near the entrance for 5 minutes while the regulars craned their heads and gawked. Took about 15 minutes before our waitress took our drink order, then another 10 before the drinks arrived - a water and an iced tea. Our waitress let us know they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch about 10 minutes before the lunch menu started - but didn't take our orders early to get them in ahead of time? Confusing. Took about half an hour overall for our orders to be taken, during which they were not written down, which led to more confusion on our server's end. Puzzling all around. Our server was polite, but unfortunately seemed to be more invested in chatting with other tables full of rowdy (what I assume to be) regulars. Their drinks were refilled promptly and she was very attentive to them. In comparison, it felt as if we were not welcome. Even when we were ready to pay - the time you'd think a server would be most attentive - payment was ignored on the table for about 10-15 minutes. We had visited in August and the service seemed fine then. Food was fine both times. No complaints about that. Service just needs some fine tuning here. Also, this place seems to have a fly problem. They didn't bother me, but it was noticeable during both visits, so probably needs addressing as well. Overall, major bummer. Will skip next time. read more

Came here for our last night on Whidbey Island. We have been wanting to visit ever since getting off the ferry the first day! I noticed locals order and pick up items to bring home. They do not have many gluten free options. The waitress did seem somewhat knowledgeable about what gluten free is but I was extremely nervous to order!! I first tried to order boiled shrimp but was notified we would have to sit outside if we did. That was a shock for us Louisiana natives! Since the majority of our group wanted to sit inside (super sunny at the tables outside) I went with the salmon. The meal was a bit pricy but man it was good!!! Everyone enjoyed our meal. I would like to advise that some labeled gluten free items would be very welcoming to those of us with food allergies. read more

Eating a late dinner, our only option in this small town was Cozy's Roadhouse. Needless to say, everyone else was in the same predicament.. or is it just that good? The interior is old school and could use an update, but I think the food is what most people care about. It was busy, busy, busy. And our waitress couldn't care less. The service was slow and mediocre. Known for their fish and chips that's what I ordered. It was good stuff and I was a big fan of their tartar sauce. Good place to stop for a quick meal when getting off the ferry and running out of time before everything was closed. Now it is mediocre at best. I would rather eat a bowl of cereal at home. The last time I was there and got a Shrimp Louie to go, I got home and discovered the shrimp was on the verge of going bad so I threw it away. And had a bowl of cereal. Perhaps kitchen staff might want to smell what they are cooking before serving it. Please improve! read more

On the way to Whidbey Island from Mulkiteo we were undecided about where to get our fish and chips. Ivars is conveniently located near the ferry terminal and we knew what we would get, but decided to wait until we got to Clinton and ordered ahead from Cozy's, since we wanted to wait and eat once we got to our destination. My wife and I shared a fish and chips and the kids had hamburgers including one with plenty of bacon. The fish and chips was substantial and had a delicious golden fried batter. The fries had a light coating and were also very good. The kids loved the hamburgers. We tried Cozy's again and one kid had the Meat Lover's pizza, the other had a repeat on the hamburger, and I had a side salad. The salad was ordinary and stuffed in a small bowl, so initially as I tried to get something out, something else fell out. The pizza hit the spot and the hamburger was the same, big, meaty and delicious. read more

This is the third time we've gone in to dine and ordered the same appetizer (onion rings) that were awful. They have been overcooked and each time the server served them after our meals came, so they weren't an appetizer they were almost dessert. I don't know if the server has forgotten the appetizer or what, but it doesn't come until after the food arrives. But, this last time they were over cooked (almost burnt) on the outside, but they were doughy on the inside. They were terrible. I wanted to send them back, instead we just left them sitting on the table. The other thing is the au jus is super salty almost to the point of not being able to use it. Would leave zero stars if possible. This restaurant is a total joke. As others have said, under the previous ownership the service and quality of the food was what you would expect from a diner. My wife and I along with a couple of kiddos came in for dinner. The restaurant was not busy but our waitress was totally overwhelmed. My wife and I got our meals quickly but the cheese pizza we ordered for the kids was nowhere to be found. We were told it would be right up. We asked multiple times when the pizza would be ready and our server kept throwing the kitchen staff under the bus. Finally after 45 minutes and two very hungry kids the pizza arrived, cold and congealed with pepperoni. Disgusting and inedible. We got the attention of our server, she barely apologized said we wouldn't be charged for the pizza then gave us our bill, pizza included of course. We got in a little later during our trip to Whidbey Island than we had anticipated. I knew I wanted to eat at Cozy's because they offered some of the same items as the famous Anacortes shrimp shack. After checking out the menu they do have some similar items, but not the majority. I opted for seafood regardless and got the shrimp basket sub onion rings instead of regular fries. You can't deny that the shrimp was fresh! We visited at a busier dinner time but food/drinks came out very quick! They have a pretty extensive menu and full bar. Good pick if you're ever in town! Came here for my friend's 30th birthday for dinner. Had a welcome shot and one cocktail and then was told we reached the "drink limit" for our table by the woman bartender. When talking to other workers, they said there was no limit. At the table next to us two men smashed beers on the ground and continued to be served. We felt very discriminated against and left immediately. We hadn't even ordered our dinner yet! Advice: check out Skein and Tipple next door! GREAT service, so much cooler, and aesthetic as hell! Been here quite a few times now and have never really been disappointed. The only thing I've noticed is that the jalapeno burger is really oily. But the rest of the food is good. My favorite is the Alanna pizza. Never has disappointed when it came to that pizza. The staff has always been great and never had a problem of getting their attention or becoming dehydrated. I've heard their prime rib dinner is perfect. So that's gonna be on my next to try list. read more

I decided to go for a chilly motorcycle ride to the south end of Whidbey Island to visit Cozy's Roadhouse for a bit of lunch. After a 45 - 50 minute ride that was dry, but very chilly, I arrived in the small town of Clinton, WA that is the home of the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry landing and Cozy's Roadhouse. I spent a few minutes studying the menu and decided to order the personal (8") Taco Pizza. I have copy and pasted the menu listing from their website: TACO PIZZA 16.99/24.99 Seasoned Ground Beef, Shredded Cheddar cheese, Shredded Mozzarella Cheese, Diced Yellow Onions, Sliced Black Olives, Diced Tomatoes and Shredded lettuce. The pizza was served with a minimum wait time and was very tasty. I was shocked that there wasn't any refried beans in the recipe because I could sworn I tasted the velvety texture of fresh refried beans. I guess it was the ground meat or possibly the melted Cheddar cheese? One word of advice... the Taco Pizza is quite messy. I would recommend using a fork! read more

The establishment was in a good location and parking was adequate. The server was friendly and the food didn't take too long but you an tell everything came out of a freezer bag. Nothing special but no major red flags either. My opinion is if you want a decent meal while in the area then this is a good place to try out if you want burgers, pizza, or wings but don't expect anything more then the run of the mill items you can get almost anywhere read more

Ok.... normally I eat twice at a place before I post a review...this place is the exception. Why, you ask? Great question. I have a family of 5 that is exceptionally picky when it comes to food. So I knew we were at a good place when they all ate in silence. The outside - like most of the best places I have eaten at it was unimpressive. In fact, there's a good chance you would drive right by it. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just not memorable. Also, current times considered, you may want to take advantage of their outside seating and pickup service. The inside - it is vey cozy, as it's namesake, and clearly a town favorite. There is family seating along with a bar and lounge area. Side note, in the event that you forget your phone there's a pay phone in the restaurant. The staff - very friendly and timely, and provided top notch service with just the right amount of "can I get you anything else?". The food - So, I suppose I should start with the bombastic claim of having "the best fish on Whidbey Island!". Now normally I don't pay much attention to these kinds of claims, due mainly to the fact that they are individual and in control of the establishment when they print their menu. However, this time I was shocked to find that statement not only true, but probably modest. The fish and chips were ordered by not only myself, but my two youngest and pickets eaters. I think it's fair to say they probably have some of the best fish and chips in Washington. It doesn't stop there, my other family members had two different burgers (Cowboy and Blue) each of which was phenomenal in its own right. Lastly, we had their shakes, which didn't impress me, but the rest of the gang enjoyed, so that's on you. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone in or around the Whidbey Island area. P.S. This is a dive-and I LOVE a good dive-that serves a nicely localized menu of greasy-spoon classics. The food, especially the burgers and sandwiches, are spot-on and worth the trip. Mounds of crispy fries accompany perfectly cooked meats, piled high with flavorful toppings and creative flavor combinations. The service is good too, with no-nonsense attitude and can-do hustle. Just as any good diner should have... So why only three stars? The beer is not cold. Now before you go, "Oh Brian, it was probably just YOUR beer..." let me tell you, I gave it three chances. My IPA was warm, about 45-50 degrees. My wife's pilsner was warm. So, thinking it might be just the keg fridge on the fritz, I ordered a bottle. The bottle was warm. If they'd had Guinness on tap, that would have been ok. That's about the right temperature for some big heavy brews and English bitters. Those beers were not in evidence. And no hard liquor to fall back on, either. This place is begging to be a solid four-star dive, and a go-to for us and our friends. They have nice pool tables and it looks like a great place to watch a game. But until they sort out the refrigerator issues or whatever, and start serving frosty beers to compliment their excellent diner food, we'll be getting ours to go. We stopped in at 5 pm midweek during the summer and were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed the fish and chips and a bacon cheeseburger. The fish was steamy and fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and had great toppings. The fries seemed to be battered and were also delicious. Service was quick and with a smile. Joshua treated us like we were islanders even though we just visited for the day. We will definitely come back the next time we're on Whidbey. read more

We've been Cozy's customers for many years, Stephanie and Troy ran a thoroughly good restaurant. Now it is in the hands of Shrimp Shack and it disappoints us with each visit. The prices have increased by 60% and quite honestly we can't afford to dine there as we used to at these prices, so now we order one item and share it. They offer Wings accompanied by Celery and Carrot sticks but when the Wings arrive the Celery and Carrot sticks are not there. When questioned about this our server told us they were out of them. This happened to us twice in the past week! There is a grocery store directly across the road where they could replenish their supply. I guess they just don't care. So sad, Cozy's was never a fancy establishment, but now it's drab and depressing. read more

According to their website, they open at noon. I called at 12:05 to place a pickup order to take on the ferry. The RUDE woman who answered the phone said, "No, I can't. You'll have to get in line. It's too busy." And then promptly hung up on me. Approximately 15 minutes later we drove by. There were a TOTAL OF 3 CARS at the location and I'd assume at least 1 had to be an employee, possibly more than 1..... There was no line, just a very RUDE employee who didn't want to work. This spot has everything one could want for an island restaurant. This was our first stop off the ferry and loved to see the place was almost full, and had mostly locals (means they trust it and it's good). The Friday night we went, they had LINE DANCING, which was electric. Amazingly nice dancers, everyone was in the mood to learn, and the restaurant owner even gave me his cowboy hat. Everyone was laughing, talking to each other, and just having a blast. And the icing on the cake - the burgers and tacos were delicious! Beautiful ambiance, can't speak highly enough! read more

Just enjoyed an impromptu lunch at this local shack. I am not certain what folks are talking about, but the service was outstanding! Everyone was so nice and personable. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left. I had the clam chowder which was actually quite nice. My partner had a meat lovers pizza. Both food choices are SOLID.
