While in town visiting family for Christmas we ventured out and tried Hank's Petaluma. We were large party with toddlers so we were seated outside, plenty of heaters going so we were warm and toasty. Mark G was our waiter and did an excellent job guiding us through the menu and making suggestions and aiding decisions and choices. Plenty of choices on the menu with appetizers salads pizzas and entrees. Food came hot and delizioso with plenty on the plates. Great atmosphere even in the winter but I can envision great times during the warmer winter with its outside dining located in a plaza with other restaurants surrounding a fountain in the middle. Great vibe for date night with the movie theater very close by. Check this place out when you are in Petaluma. Bon appetitto

I was really excited to try this place since I'm local and somehow had never heard of it before. My boyfriend and I came during happy hour and ordered the calamari and a mushroom pizza. The calamari was good, and we enjoyed what we tried. We wanted to order another pizza to go so we could take advantage of the happy hour pricing, which was the main reason we came in. Unfortunately, when we tried to do that, our waitress was pretty rude about it. The interaction made things uncomfortable and left a bad taste in both of our mouths. Because of how uncomfortable it felt, we only ate the calamari, took the mushroom pizza to go, and ended up eating at my car for better vibes. Food was good service was disappointing :/

Absolutely love Hank's. Modern, yet classic style with beautiful, original roots, and traditional values. Katie & her Family have done Petaluma a great service with their outstanding work. Great locale, easy- And! all the Staff is so well mannered. Hank's staple dishes are our Town favorites! The quiet, sophisticated vibe coupled with (GOOD kid-friendly) atmosphere makes this not only a Local's favorite, but a Restaurant not-to-be-missed, if you're from out of the area. Delicious salads, pastas, and perfect pizzas. Chicken Piccata is always a home run; but everything is delicious.

We happened on Hanks and what a treasure we found. Delicious homemade food, happy hour seven days a week with tasty craft cocktails. Sadie was a delight and friendly server. Highly recommend!!

The gnocchi thing! Sooooo good! very Instagramable too, I just didn't take the time to take a great pic bc I wanted to eat. lol!

My sister and soon to be brother-in-law took me and my toddler daughter here for my birthday dinner bc I saw a photo on either Instagram or Facebook of their gnocchi appetizer. It's like a bread bowl (bread stick bread not French bread) with gnocchi red sauce and globs of cheese with fresh basil. I ended up getting a meal of appetizers bc I wanted them all My sister and STBBIL got pizzas and my daughter shared everyone's food. It was all amazing. Our sever was very nice and professional. He gave my daughter a coloring page a crayons. We sat on the patio that had heaters, they weren't on but weren't needed until we were ready to leave. The patio had a fence around it and was in the heart of that little shopping area so the people watching was good and it had that downtown city energy feel even though you are by the River in Petaluma. The only downside was the drinks. I just wasn't a fan of their signature drinks but I didn't say anything, if I did I'm sure they would have given me something else. I definitely recommend this place for Italian food especially that gnocchi thing I'm not even sure what's it's called but the waiter knew as soon as I asked out it. I will definitely be back here.

Pizza is the stand out item Nice wine list and prompt service. I've been here a few times now and I'll say it's one of the better pizzas in town, especially if you go in for the Neapolitan thin crust style. The crust is crispy light and flavorful. Only a few topping of high quality. They do pies right here, however there is no build your own menu option. I ordered a special last night and was disappointed. It was described as a Chicken Parm served with a carbonara style pasta. What I got was an entree size serving of carbonara with a small chicken Parm breast on top. Now don't get me wrong, it was delicious. It was just not what I expected. I ordered chicken Parm because I wanted chicken, not a bowl of pasta with some chicken. The chicken was excellent though. Well seasoned, moist inside and very crispy outside, melted gooey cheese on top. I could have easily eaten 2 of those chicken breasts. But for $29 I was left wanting for a classic chicken Parm. No disrespect to this dish. I just recommend a more accurate description on the menu, or perhaps a more accurate name. The beet salad had nice fresh ingredients but was overly dressed and the beets were not flavorful. Bummed. They have lots of heaters for outdoor dining on chilly Petaluma evenings. Inside is clean, modem, and low lit. I've not ordered Togo from these guys yet, because I suspect this style pizza would not be nearly as good after it sat in a box for 30 mins. This pizza should be enjoyed hot and fresh out of the oven.

This was a solid, yummy patio meal on a night ushering in autumn! We had a hankering for pizza, but wanted a little more of an intimate setting , so Hank's was the answer! We were seated quickly and attended to all evening by a great server. He was super friendly had excellent wine and apps suggestions. We had a delish beet salad, meatballs and the iron brick cheese (scrumptious!), and then munched a fig and prosciutto pizza. Oddly enough we were too full for dessert, but we had plenty of wine! Definitely a place to return next time we are in Petaluma!

Good place for a pizza and beer kinda place. Good selections of other stuffs like pasta, salad and appetizers. And my husband was happy with all the local beer selections. Friendly and fast service. Nice outdoor seating too!

Modified meat pizza- no salami with extra pepperoni.

Ask the Community - Hank's Petaluma

    Is the patio dog friendly?

Sorry, can't say for sure, but I would guess they are. Hank's brother restaurants, TAPS, allows dogs in their outdoor dining area, so I would suspect Hank's does too. If not, and you end up downtown wondering where else has dog-friendly patios,…

They served their sparkling brut Rose and plenty of Pinot Noir, all from Sonoma County, Sonoma Coastal, & Petaluma Gap appellation. One that stood out to us was the 2022 Dragons Back Pinot Noir. A classic tasty Pinot. They went all out and offered tasty bites that really enhanced their wines. They used to be in Healdsburg at Bacchus Landing a much larger location but not centrally located so moving to historical downtown Petaluma gives them an opportunity to attract a larger audience especially since their wines are sourced from the cooler Sonoma county region. What a fine job of remodeling the tasting room. I don't know how they did it but somehow the place seems wider and larger than the previous tasting room at this location. They opened the back with some large gathering tables and their vast selection of records is housed in the back as well. They added some small tables throughout the space. It's easy to maneuver. They also allow guests to bring food inside, so you can sip, sit, nosh & listen to some tunes. There are plenty of eateries around so it's any easy stop. As I write this review I'm reminiscing how well their Sparkling Brut Rose and Dragons Back Pinot Noir went so well with a prosciutto sandwich they offered at their grand opening. A great match, and good representation of Sonoma Coast, Petaluma Gap wines.

Montagne Russe's full name is Montagne Russe Winery and Record Lounge, and it is exactly what it is, as it is part wine tasting room and part vinyl record store with hundreds of new and pre-used classic record albums for sale. What a perfect place to sip great wine while enjoying hit tracks from the past. Montagne Russe pours some of the nicest wines sourced from across Sonoma County, especially the nearby Petaluma Gap, making this newest tasting venue an ideal spot to soak in the atmosphere while supporting a local business. We've visited Montagne Russe before when their tasting room was at Bacchus Landing in Healdsburg, and while it was a beautiful space, it wasn't always busy. So it's no surprise they made the move to downtown Petaluma this past year. We'd been wanting to check out their new location since they opened over the summer, and finally got the chance during a recent weekend afternoon. With lively crowds outside, parking was harder to come by, as the recommended Keller Street Garage was completely full, but a short walk from the River Plaza parking lot did the trick. Even though we had reservations, we didn't end up needing them when we arrived, but the tasting room was full by the time we left. Winemaker and owner Kevin Bersofsky greeted us with a complimentary splash of their 2022 Sparkling Brut Rosé which had subtle hints of citrus throughout. From there, I enjoyed their Library tasting while my friend enjoyed their Signature tasting, both of which were offered at 35 dollars a person. For our second tasting, I enjoyed their 2019 Silver and Gold Chardonnay while my friend enjoyed their 2023 Roberts Road Chardonnay. My tasting of the Chardonnay tasted as it it was lower in alcohol, but higher in acid than my friend's Chardonnay, but both tasted wonderful. For our third pour, we enjoyed their signature Pinot Noirs, we me enjoying their vintage from 2019 and my friend sipped on their 2022 vintage, which were both sourced from Black Knight Vineyard, of which their wine tasting room they replaced in downtown Petaluma. For our fourth pour, I enjoyed their 2021 Terra De Promissio Pinot Noir, while my friend enjoyed their 2022 "Quatre Cinq Un" Pinot Noir, for both of these wines, the tannins were not too overpowering but you could definitely taste them. For our fifth and final pour, I enjoyed their 2018 Robert's Road Pinot Noir, which had hints of baking spices and cherries, while my friend enjoyed their 2021 Alder Springs Syrah, which was lush and silky smooth. For 70 dollars, not including gratuity, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of wine tasting. When we made our reservation, there was a note about being able to bring in takeout from nearby restaurants, though it never came up once we began our tasting and honestly, we were too focused on the wines to think about food. As the afternoon went on, the crowd grew significantly, and at times it felt like we got a bit lost in the shuffle when it came to service. Still, we made the most of our visit and thoroughly enjoyed both the wines and the people-watching. With Montagne Russe still relatively new to the downtown Petaluma community, I can easily see them thriving here for a long time to come.

They also sometimes project old movies on the wall, which adds a really fun, laid-back vibe and makes the whole experience even more memorable. You have a choice of ordering on a tablet at the table or the server also came by to ask if he could take our order. Ordering on the tablet was super easy and straight forward. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer, one chirashi (sushi rice with fresh fish on top), and three of us ordered the 2-item bento: Teriyaki salmon & tempura Chicken katsu & shio saba Bulgogi & spicy tuna roll The bentos come with a nice miso soup and salad. They do offer a wide variety of rolls as well as an assortment of side dishes and salads. There is a robot that comes around to deliver food to the tables. I heard the bulgogi was a bit on the sweeter side and the chirashi had a beautiful assortment of seafood. We enjoyed trying a new place and would definitely come back. The lighting, the decor, the energy... it's perfect for a romantic date night, a special celebration, or just treating yourself after a day exploring Sonoma's vineyards. His passion shines through in every dish, drawing from his experiences in London and Paris and his childhood memories of Southern France. The menu features timeless classics executed flawlessly: think rich onion soup gratinée, perfectly seasoned steak tartare, boeuf Bourguignon that melts in your mouth, and desserts like chocolate fondant or île flottante that end the meal on a high note. We were going to order only 1 churro but the server offered that the churros are gluten free so we ordered two orders! The menu doesn't say this, so FYI. They were one of the best potato preparations I've ever had. Shockingly fluffy and light inside literally like a potato cloud. Maybe the cheese helps with this? I don't know but get them. Salad was good, nice mix of greens. A little wet for my taste if I'm choosing but I'm also not complaining, it was yummy. The potatoes were a perfect dish to come with the salad since otherwise it didn't have a crunch element. This is the first time I've gotten the collar and it was as meaty as it is. I've ordered at other restaurants before and it was not as successful of a dish as here. Loved the sauce and flavors on it. It was kinda sticky due to the sauce but I mean that in a good way, to add to the flavor and overall balance of texture and flavor The snapper lettuce wraps were also yummy! Kind of laborious to get the fish to eat ready but worth the effort, same with the collar too, but also worth the "work" to get the meat off the bones. The snapper has a lot of pin bones but otherwise really yummy bite. The rock wall in the alley creates a whole vibe with the lights and such. It is also one of the oldest walls in Petaluma, which is pretty cool. Slim menu but excellent. The restaurant is tiny, like 6 tables. Being on the patio was nice, more room. Our meal split 4 ways was delicious and filling but also light and sat well in our bellies. I'd absolutely come back again.

Small wine list with good choices from South America and if you order by the glass you will be amazed at the size of the pours; double what one would normally get! Two of us had the Paella which was very good, a third ordered the excellent Lamb Shank and the fourth had the top notch Pork Rib platter which completely disappeared very quickly. Perhaps next time we'll try the Ceviche as we will return if they can remain in business with such little traffic. While not inexpensive the value is solid as you would pay far more in any other good Sonoma County restaurants for similar dishes. Polite if a bit shy service but man did she light up when we went head over heels over her family home made hot sauces which are a "must try" if you have an appropriate appetizer. Ask for them as they bring you tasty but not too spicy standard condiments. Oh, and very clean restrooms and well paced food serving times. Keep this place open, try it sooner vs later.

They need to work on the green sauce as it is more like salsa verde than aji verde, could be spicier too. I will return. I need to try the Chaufa.

We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The server got us drinks as soon as we sat down. It was quaint, and clean. Friendly atmosphere. We ordered a large Italian salad to share, and a large combination pizza. The salad was fresh and it was good. I love salad. Our pizza came pretty quickly and was delicious. The crust is thick. I knew it would be. I think I prefer a thin crust. Other than my preference the pizza was delicious from the stuffed crust to the delicious toppings and the sauce was perfect, not too much not too little. Thankyou so much for the awesome lunch and great service.

We had the Italian salad, garlic bread, and a medium deep dish pizza. Everything was super fresh! Salad was great - their blue cheese dressing was killer! Garlic bread was so hot we'd had to wait to divide it - and had enough garlic to keep the vampires at bay. Pizza was incredible and melty cheesy delight! Come hungry! I tub that medium pizza could have fed five! Overall a delight! Do glad we stopped in - I certainly won't wait ten years before coming back!

We have dined at Central Market a few times, and finally had the chance to use a gift certificate…read morethat was graciously given to us. Last night's experience was outstanding. We really enjoy the vibe of downtown Petaluma, and the ambiance of the restaurant was nicely set with fresh cut flowers in the dinning room. The service was impeccable (shout out to Alex and Rita); they were very knowledgeable about the food (ingredients and preparation) and service was prompt without ever rushing us through the dining experience. We started with the meatball appetizer, and the gem salad. The Blue Ribbon Meatball was fantastic. The gem salad was mind blowingly good; every ingredient, from the eggs, the blue cheese, and the pork belly was over the top The pork belly was cooked in the wood fired oven and the smoke flavor was just amazing. For dinner we split the mushroom pizza and then finished with the Valrhona chocolate tart. Everything was cooked to perfection, the presentation and flavors were sublime. It was evident that a tremendous amount of care and attention to detail goes into the preparation and service of the meal. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be back soon.

The service was outstanding from start to finish, but what really impressed me was seeing Chef/Owner Tony Najiola actively overseeing every aspect of the operation. He visited tables, checked on guests, and was clearly involved in every detail of the dining experience. That's something you rarely see anymore, especially from a restaurant owner who has been doing this for more than two decades, and it deserves to be applauded. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The shoestring zucchini was a great starter, the lobster risotto was rich and perfectly prepared, and the Testarossa pizza was absolutely outstanding. Pairing it all with a Pliny the Elder made for a perfect Sonoma County dinner. Central Market isn't just a great restaurant, it's the kind of place that reminds you why locally owned restaurants matter. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Petaluma.
