My wife and I have been several times and all before were good, good food, good wine. However, we went two weeks ago and will never go back. The young lady behind the bar was great at taking our order, but the bar manager who had to pour the wine was awful. His attitude , demeanor and the way he told us he wouldn't pour our wine before he poured the other 40 glasses on the bar (we were the only 2 at the bar) solidified it for us. First the pros: ambiance and service are great. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very attentive and personable. Cons: the food. I ordered the Cauliflower wings and the scallops "atop wilted spinach and beurre blanc". The cauliflower was extremely heavily breaded. Extremely. Wasn't expecting that and it was disappointing. I had to peel off the breading and the discards almost filled the bowl it was served in. The scallops were a good size, but unfortunately very very sandy. I had to send them back. Also I had to ask what happened to the spinach and they told me it was under the scallops. There was about one leaf of spinach under each scallop. Not exaggerating. I sent it back, which is something I RARELY do. I couldn't find anything else on the menu that wasn't fried or pasta. I like to eat low-gluten (not allergic just know I feel better without it) and there were no options on this menu besides the scallops and maybe the salmon, which I didn't try. They quickly agreed to take the scallops off the bill (didn't seem surprised at all that I didn't like them) but I don't think I would ever go back, except for to get some drinks from the bar area. read more

If I could give more stars I totally would! It was the best time! My friend and I were coming from out of town to go to a concert at the Lyric so we had to find some yummy food beforehand. First off, I love tapas-style restaurants so this peaked my interest right when I saw the menu. There is not a parking lot, but there were some street parking and a lot that you have to pay for. We didn't have any trouble finding a spot close by but a weekend might be a different story. Our waiter was the absolute nicest and he answered any and all questions we had about the menu! For our meal, we ordered crispy Brussels sprouts, Goat cheese and Fig Bruschetta, General Homie's Cauliflower wings, and Beef Empanadas. It was very hard to choose! Everything was full of flavor and really tasty, but if I had to pick one it might have been the Goat cheese and fig Bruschetta and the brussels sprouts are a close second. But all were really good! I order the lady love as my first drink, and I'm not much of a tequila girl, but it was mixed really well and you could taste the strawberry. For my second drink, I asked if the bartender could surprise me with a rum-based drink. When I received it the waiter said you should feel like you were at the beach, and it totally did feel like that! Quite delicious. Wishing this restaurant could move to Memphis because I would go back all the time. If you're in town, definitely check it out, you won't regret it! read more

If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars I would. I visited from out of town on a Tuesday night and was seated very quickly. Our waiter was great. Very sociable and well informed when we had questions about the dishes. Everything on the menu looked great but in the end we decided to get the crispy Brussel sprouts, Goat cheese and Fig Bruschetta, and the Beef Empanadas. Each plate was great. It's hard to pick a favorite and you can't go wrong with either. We had only planned on getting three plates but the food was so good we ended up ordering the Cauliflower wings as well which did not disappoint. The drinks were also great! I cannot recommend the key lime pie cocktail enough. It was one of my favorite that I've ever had and tasted exactly like a slice of pie. Everything we had was great I was only sad that I was full and couldn't taste more. Great sultry nighttime atmosphere and they have a spacious outdoor patio. We were able to find parking in a lot but I could see it being more of an issue on the weekend since it seems to be a big college hangout area. Wish we lived closer so I could come back but next time I'm in Oxford I'll be stopping by. read more

What was supposed to be a fun and festive evening for the Bride to Be was ruined by the unprofessional and disrespectful attitude of Tyler, the manager. We placed a reservation, on January 21st, for what we thought would be the party room, only to have our party of 12, seated in an alternate location, without any justification. When we questioned the seating arrangement, Tyler became condescending and refused to listen. My guests and I were made to feel inferior by his behavior. As a first time patron to the establishment, I was disappointed with the service we received from Tyler. Witnessing this incident has tainted my perception of The Sipp. read more

I stopped by this lovely tapa & wine restaurant on the Square because I was hearing from friends to check it out. Upon entering it has beautiful decor with TVs at the bar for sports. I sat at the bar to indulge in the drinks & light bites. They have an extensive wine list with even multiple options of port wine, which I love! And they offer flights. I ordered the goat cheese & fig bruschetta and was able to add some pieces of prosciutto to it because I didn't need an entire board. I was grateful for that & it was delicious! I had two of their signature cocktails which were good but not anything exciting. The chicken fettuccine pasta was ok. I could've tried something else. We attended a surprise birthday party here on a Monday night The girl that served us was very nice and quick to bring whatever we requested. The charcuterie board was delicious! The meats, cheese, and cream cheese bread was perfect for the large crowd. The atmosphere inside is dark and quiet. I would love this for a date night. Beware! They stop serving seating/serving food an hour and a half before close (we have been turned away at 8:30 when they close at 10). It doesn't say anywhere and the girls at the front don't really seem to know the exact time they're going stop serving food over the phone. That's the only reason for 2 stars getting docked. Great food, Mae Hellen is sent from heaven! So delicious! Our server was so awesome and is such a cool dude. Had tons of recommendations for things to do around the city as well as some night life around town. This place would get so much more business if they just stuck to the hours online and on the door! We were so excited to try out this new hidden gem in Oxford. Large booths make this nightspot a good local for groups.m and the decor is reminiscent of a big city club. The charcuterie plate was fairly impressive and the honey is a nice touch, but with so many toppings it needs many more crackers and an explanation by the waiter as to the identities of the items would have been nice. The meatballs are unconventional in their use of chili powder. The dessert menu was sadly lacking and no port was available - despite the extensive wine menu. The custom mojito was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully the management will take these comments to heart and we will make this one of our regular Oxford locations. read more

Ate here for the first time this past Friday. I had very high hopes for the food - especially if it matched the decor and menu. My son and I ordered the catch of the day, which was grouper. First the fish was chewy - like it had been frozen OR possibly just too old. Second, it was waaay over salted/seasoned. There was a pesto on the fish which was somewhat complimentary but the "orange" substance around the plate should not have ever been there. Sip has turned into an Oxford staple practically overnight. I have never had a bad experience there until this last time. Everything was perfectly fine with our night until our waitress was talked very down upon for simply talking to a coworker for a split second. Someone came out of the kitchen, and instead of pulling her off to the side to speak with her, he proceeded to get on to her in front of my table. Which I thought was unprofessional because my waitress was obviously flustered the rest of the night. I only write this because I care for Sip and want nothing but the best for the establishment. Overpriced, mediocre food with extremely small portions. Drinks are overpriced as well - even during happy hour.....with the noted exception of the house wine special. The place is clean, but is dark, relatively small, and from a vibe perspective seems sort of out of place for Oxford, MS. The patio area (out by the front door) isn't a bad area to hang out (depending upon weather)....but that still doesn't change the menu or the prices. I'm not sure what their objective target clientele will be once the newness wears off among the Ole Miss student and faculty population. Perhaps they'll be able to survive on catering to the older, well-heeled Oxford money that lives in town all year.... or maybe the intermittent out of town business brought in by Ole Miss football game-goers and visiting parents who are simply bent on going out somewhere near the downtown Square regardless of the cost or quality.
