I would give this place negative reviews. Was with a group from out of town and made reservations for a party of 6. When we arrived (on time and actually 10 minutes early) we were not greeted and ended up just standing waiting for someone to greet us. When no one arrived we asked to speak with a manager. When someone did arrive we were told that another party took priority over us, although we had prior and confirmed reservations for 6. Then we were told to leave the property or law enforcement would be called. I have never been so disrespected by a small business ever in my life. I don't even want to speculate as to why we were treated in this manner, other than the color of our skin. As members of the African American community, we cannot continue spending our money at businesses where Black customers feel they are treated differently, disrespected, or criminalized simply for speaking up. According to the three Black women involved in the incident at Sippin Silo in Southaven, Mississippi, they were denied service and banned from the restaurant after questioning why they couldn't come and open a reservation at 4 pm when nothing else was reserved until 7pm. Police were then called--even though the women say they had committed no crime. In 2026, no Black person should have to walk into a restaurant and feel as though we have gone back to the 1950s, when Black Americans could be refused service and treated as though they didn't belong. Calling the police on Black women over a disagreement with a restaurant is especially disturbing because encounters with law enforcement can escalate quickly. This incident deserves answers, transparency, and accountability. This is also happening in Mississippi at a time when reports involving the suspicious or unexplained deaths of Black people have raised serious concerns and fear in communities. Those individual cases should be judged on verified facts, but that broader concern makes situations involving race and law enforcement impossible for many people to simply dismiss. After seeing the disturbing video showing the treatment of these Black women, I can honestly say I would never patronize an establishment like this. According to what was shown in the video, Sippin Silo chose to involve the police over a seating arrangement rather than simply offering an alternative to patrons who had reservations. That is deeply troubling and, in my opinion, completely unacceptable. What was even more disturbing was the behavior of the responding police officer. His approach toward these women appeared extremely aggressive and intimidating. At one point, he moved toward one of the women in a manner that made it appear as though he might physically take her to the ground. If an officer behaves that aggressively while knowing he is being recorded, it raises serious concerns about how he may conduct himself when there are no cameras present. There should have been an effort to de-escalate the situation not escalate it. Black women deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. No reservation or seating disagreement should ever turn into an encounter that feels threatening or unnecessarily aggressive. I would NOT recommend this business. My experience here was extremely disturbing and left me with serious concerns about how African American customers are treated at this establishment. Instead of handling a customer-service issue the way businesses regularly do communicating with the customers, explaining expectations, involving management, or asking someone to leave if necessary the restaurant chose to escalate the situation by calling the police. From what I witnessed, the situation did not warrant police involvement and could have been handled through basic customer service and conflict resolution. What made this even more disturbing was how aggressively the responding officers interacted with the African American women involved. A situation that began as something restaurant staff could have handled themselves was escalated into a police encounter that, in my opinion, unnecessarily put these women's safety at risk. Businesses need to understand the seriousness of involving law enforcement, particularly when dealing with situations that do not present an immediate safety threat. Calling the police is not a substitute for customer service, and unnecessary escalation can have very real and potentially dangerous consequences. What stood out to me was the way the interaction escalated and the overall tone of the situation. From what I observed, it raised a serious question for me: would another group of women have been treated the same way under the same circumstances? That is my issue. I also observed public discussion suggesting that the business being "minority-owned" was being used as part of the response to concerns about discrimination. In my opinion, that does not answer the concern. Being minority-owned does not automatically mean that another minority group cannot be treated differently. What matters to me is whether every customer is treated consistently, respectfully, and according to the same rules. As a consumer, I pay attention to these things because businesses should never take Black patronage for granted. Our money spends just like everyone else's, and if an establishment wants support from the Black community, then Black customers should receive the same level of respect, patience, professionalism, and customer service as anyone else. Another thing I observed was how quickly the situation became much bigger than what appeared to start as a customer-service disagreement. That alone would make me uncomfortable spending my money here. I personally do not want to enter an establishment wondering whether a disagreement could turn into something unnecessarily escalated. I was not physically present during the incident, so I am not claiming to know every conversation that took place. My review is based solely on what I personally observed from the publicly available material and the impression that material left on me as a potential customer. 1 STAR Completely Unacceptable Treatment of Black Women I am absolutely disgusted by what happened to a group of Black women at Sippin and Silo in Mississippi. These women had PRE-BOOKED a reservation, yet staff refused to serve them and instead called the police over what amounted to a seating issue. Rather than simply communicating with their paying guests, offering an available alternative, or finding a reasonable solution, the situation was allowed to escalate into something completely unnecessary and humiliating. What happened after law enforcement arrived was even more disturbing. The first officer who responded was extremely hostile and aggressive toward one of the women. He threatened to arrest her if she did not provide her identification. The women repeatedly asked for a lieutenant, but their requests were not honored. The officer's demeanor was so aggressive that it appeared the situation could become physical. Thankfully, additional officers eventually arrived and de-escalated the situation. Let that sink in: a group of Black women who had made reservations came to patronize an establishment and ended up dealing with police over a seating dispute. There were so many opportunities for the staff to de-escalate this situation before it ever reached that point. They could have honored the reservation, explained the seating situation, offered another seating arrangement, or simply communicated respectfully with their guests. Instead, they refused to serve them and involved law enforcement. And because this is a minority-owned establishment, the situation is even more disappointing. Black women should not have to wonder whether they will be treated with dignity and respect when they spend their money at a business. These women were guests from out of town who came to patronize this establishment. They deserved hospitality, professionalism, and basic respect, not humiliation, confrontation, and police involvement. I would strongly encourage people to think carefully before spending their money here. Businesses have every right to address legitimate problems with customers, but there is a huge difference between resolving a seating issue professionally and turning it into an incident involving aggressive police intervention. Decided to pop in early Friday evening a few weeks ago. The service was very attentive. Decor was kind of tacky. Looked like the set of a Netflix original show. The wine was awful. The tap system they have is clearly not used often or not maintained well. Everything tasted corked. In trying to find a wine I could palate, I tried several. The person with me got an aperol spritz. It was sickly sweet. If you're going to be in the business of alcohol, please learn about it. We spent almost $50 on essentially two drinks.
