I had a consultation with Dr. Matian of Smile Lounge. The office is lovely, comfy. Dr. Matian came across as caring. He looked at xrays I had on my cell and into my mouth, very thorough. I never had dental work other than 2 tiny molar surface fillings from my family dentist and cleanings. Another dentist had staff do xrays, did not look in my mouth. He looked at xrays and a recent broken tooth could be crowned, pull wisdom tooth, cavities 2 molars in front of wisdom tooth, crowns, and a bottom right molar. He would have done all in 3 hours. No. I would have both right and left side of mouth with no chewable surface. Thus looking for another dentist. Dr. Matian would not do all at once. Unfortunately, his office didn't take my Delta Care HMO. I recommend his practice to those whose insurance his office takes. Staff who was there was also very good. read more

I believe Dr. Matian and Caitlin displayed pseudo care and friendliness initially. I believe some of Dr. Matian's comments regarding making a new temporary crown were dismissive, minimizing, inappropriate, irrelevant, unnecessary and came across as MANIPULATIVE. I believe he was unkind, uncaring and unprofessional. I had a few experiences at this office that were concerning. During my appointment, Dr. Matian took a napkin from the bathroom and blew his nose in the hallway. From what I observed, he did not wash his hands afterward. This occurred while the dental assistant was taking X-rays and shortly before he returned to the exam room. Although he wore gloves during examination, I believe this was concerning. I believe the first red flag was hearing Caitlin and another receptionist discuss what I understood to be another patient's personal life which I felt was highly inappropriate. In my opinion, based on the private aspect of the subject and words used this person, who was not present, was being judged with a mocking tone. I felt uneasy about this conduct. When Caitlin took me to the exam room I noticed the dental chair seat cushion had some sort of noticeable solid white substances on it. Caitlin did not say anything nor did she clean it. They also wasted hours of my time not to mention the Lyft rides I had to pay for. Initially, I believe Caitlin was seemingly kind from the phone call to when I initially arrived until she realized Dr. Matian would not make the new temporary crown. Then her entire demeanor went from warm to cold, dismissive and nonchalant right after Dr. Matian talked to her. I believe Caitlin also displayed rude facial expressions that showed dismissiveness and indifference. Instead of taking accountability - Dr. Matian said Caitlin didn't do any of this - even though he was not in the room at the time it all happened. I simply came in to replace a temporary crown done by the previous dentist as it had broken and fell off. I explained all this to Caitlin on the phone prior to making an appointment and she confirmed that Dr. Matian will make a new temporary crown. I also noted details about the negligence of the previous dentist as I was advised to see a prosthodontist. In my opinion, instead of genuinely caring - Dr. Matian refused to help by simply making a new temporary crown insisting that he could just fix the BROKEN temporary crown. Not only this went against the discussion with Caitlin before I made the appointment - it felt utterly uncaring. In my opinion, Dr. Matian was mainly concerned about what was best for him - NOT me as a patient. He would not even examine my teeth properly to see if there is pain. Due to this and his numerous refusals to make the temporary crown I believe he simply he didn't want to be involved with the work of the previous dentist. I also did not appreciate how Dr. Matian told me to give him a few minutes to talk to Caitlin after I reminded him that Caitlin confirmed he would make a temporary crown and then he sent Caitlin instead. I felt this further showed lack of true care for me as a patient - especially given Caitlin's dramatic change in attitude and demeanor. I also experienced his reasonings for not doing the temporary crown as nonsensical, derailing and deflecting - especially that I noted details of why I had to wait to see the prosthodontist. By his particular repeated comments - I also felt a valid concern about broken temporaries that fell off was being devalued and dismissed as well as further minimized by, in my opinion, derailment and deflection with comments that were irrelevant. I also asked for pricing before I went in. I told Caitlin I need a new temporary and x-rays. Caitlin provided pricing for temporaries, but did NOT mention ANYTHING about their "evaluation" price on the phone. Caitlin showed a bill ONLY right before I saw Dr. Matian which was about $250 for evaluation and two X-rays. This was $250 more than I thought I was going to pay. When I reminded Caitlin that I asked about pricing before I came in and the additional price wasn't mentioned she said that I didn't ask about the evaluation. I believe this response was also deflective. Dental offices should be fully transparent about pricing before patients visit the office. Choose an office that truly cares about you as a patient and does what's best for you instead of coming up with nonsensical and derailing excuses and comments in some sort of an attempt to not get involved with work of a previous dentist. Also choose an office where the demeanor of the receptionist doesn't entirely change right after the dentist talks to her. This entire experience made me feel I was just a number and treated well only under certain circumstances. Based on my experience with Dr. Matian and Caitlin - I believe this office lacks genuine care for patients and their well being. Over the past decade, I have consistently had positive experiences at VIP, as have many of my friends. I absolutely adore Dr. Matian. However, my recent encounter was extremely dreadful. Despite having in-network insurance, I was compelled to pay an exorbitant sum of thousands of dollars in advance through Care Credit for medical services. This was in stark contrast to my usual experience, where I was billed for services rendered at the time, and then only the copay agreed upon by the insurance company, the contracted rate. Despite the insurance company's assurances that such a situation should not occur, I was denied a refund for a significant overpayment of the services rendered. I engaged in a protracted four-month battle with the office to obtain a partial refund. Even after six months, they refused to honor the full amount the insurance company had calculated they owe me. The individual responsible for billing and bookkeeping at this establishment is either incompetent or deliberately engages in fraudulent practices. This situation is unacceptable, and I will continue to escalate this matter until I am fully compensated for the amount owed to me. Furthermore, I will refrain from returning to this establishment in the future and will inform my acquaintances who frequent it about this experience. read more

No one likes going to the dentist but the doctors here really make the experience as painless as possible. They offer appointments after 5pm to accommodate those of us who work, they have an excellent front office staff that will work with your insurance to get as much of your treatment covered as possible, and the two dentists I saw were both exceptional at making me feel at ease. I came in for a deep cleaning and whitening treatment and it was the least painful dental experience I have had thus far. I had to get a tooth rebonded after my previous bond chipped and came here on recommendation from a friend. While I'll say the work is all right, there were a lot of things left to be desired: 1) I made an appointment online for a free consultation for cosmetic bonding. I never received any confirmation of my appointment, either by phone, text or email. 2) When I arrived at the office, they had no record of my appointment in the system. I had to tell them I made it online and then they miraculously found it. 3) While the appointment was for a free consult, I was then told it would be $250 just to see the dentist for that, with the fee applied to the work. I fought this and won. 4) When I arrived at the office, it was in complete disarray. Apparently they'd had work done over the weekend and they were putting the entire front of office back together and were pretty unprofessional. Shouldn't that have been taken care of before opening the office? 5) For a partial redo of a bond, my total cost was $350. I had to pay upfront before the service was even completed. Since I needed the bond done, I paid it, but this is an extreme cost -- especially because the dentist said there's no guarantee of how long a bond will even last. 6) When I got home, the back of my tooth was extremely rough. I realized that the bond was actually bonded to the back of my tooth by accident and kept cutting my tongue because it should have been shaved down before I left. I had to go back to have it fixed. 7) When I went back to have the bond fixed, the dentist didn't believe me at first. He took a photo of it and didn't see anything on the tooth so he thought I was lying (and told me so). However when he took his pick to the back of my tooth and it literally hit the bond and wouldn't move, then he said he believed me and shaved it down. 8) They tried to pressure me into setting up follow up appointments which would cost hundreds of dollars for cleaning, exam and x-rays. I said no. Overall, not a favorite dentist experience and not an office I'd recommend. I'd pay attention to the negative reviews here as they seem to be the ones not left because of pressure to do so. read more

This second review comes after a year + of treatment and several visits to VIP Dental Spa. After a deep clean, a year of Invisalign, a few standard cleanings and 4 brand new sparkly porcelain veneers, I am thrilled with the results and definitely smiling much brighter this year! As a whole the treatment process was not seamless as my case was a bit complicated, and most importantly to ensure optimum and last longing results that met my goals. This does require a bit of patience and understanding as this is an investment in your smile, your dental health, confidence and well being. Ask a lot of questions and do your research! I myself had to add on a series of additional Invisalign trays, which I was not expecting but was necessary to avoid a compromised bite and future complications. Also, I needed one round of corrections done on my veneers so they were aesthetically what I wanted and THEN had an old implant go loose which Dr. Matian tightened (An implant from South America so the screw was unidentifiable as a last minute surprise). At this juncture I think it is very common that patients just want to get it over with and move on. Just make sure your needs are met as they will listen and take all necessary steps. Dr. Matian and his team were so beyond wonderful during this whole process which can be overwhelming and emotional at times! They are always welcoming, gracious and attentive to my needs and concerns and have seriously gone above and beyond I am so lucky to live down the street and will be continuing my ongoing treatment here no doubt. read more

They made me feel so welcome and were very helpful. I had not expected to be numbed during our visit and began to cry, they were so patient and gave me moments to breathe. They did not make me feel like I was inconveniencing them at all. They were fast and gentle. Had to check in over the phone with same intake forms as when i scheduled online. Check in was chaotic with rude staff with bad attitudes. They tried to have me come back at a later date, and all i went for was a cleaning. After taking way too much time to take xrays they said Id have to come back for the actual cleaning because apparently my appointment time was during the hygenist's lunch time, but that is not my problem. I refused to come back because that would have made that entire trip a waste. Plus why would I trust them to have their axt together in the future? They ended up doing the cleaning, but it was not thorough and was more of a cosmetic than a true cleaning. Ive had cleanings my whole life and this was by far the most unprofessional, unorganized and sad dentist experience ever. Way too stressful and frustrating for what should be simple. Dr. Matian is professional, kind, funny and has great bedside manner. I came to replace an unsightly crown I had placed as a teen and he made sure it came back perfectly. Damon, his office manager is wonderful, professional and kind. I always feel like staying to hang out. I had a teeth whitening today performed by Peter, the process was easy and he made sure to check on me during the whole process to ensure I was comfortable. Complete scam. They have so many 5 star reviews because they pressure patients into giving them and remove the lower ratings, or use the higher ratings to hide the 1 star reviews (see many on Yelp). They inflate prices EXTREMELY, PUSH you to get on a payment plan, and PRESSURE you into treatments you literally do not need. The office is not clean inside (ironic for how much $$$ they scam people out of) and the entire time I was there I felt uneasy. I was talked into an almost $2k "deep cleaning", and after speaking with other dentists they have said that's absolutely outrageous. They also made me pay before my procedures, which is quite unheard of, but I was so pressured I simply complied. I then didn't need over $1.8k of the procedures but am already on a payment plan, which took me WEEKS to get adjusted and I had to call the financing company myself, where they shared all it would take is a simple email from the dentistry to have my payments corrected so I wasn't paying for procedures I didn't have. Even to have this done, I had to take off over 3 hours of work and call back and forth between the finance company and the dentistry because Damon (their sales person it seems) could not correctly email and provide the information needed. After 3 hours and MUCH help from the finance company, this was able to be resolved. This place is absolutely unethical, looks at people as simply transactions, inflates prices, pressures patients and has no care for their consequences. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I went there for an initial visit thinking I was going to get a cleaning done like every other initial visit I've been to before in my 36 years of life. The check in staff wasn't rude but they did not provide much information. I kinda had to initiate dialogue and questions. They made me fill out a form I already filled out online. I guess they couldn't look it up. Anyway I get inside a room. A man starts doing my X-rays. After that the dentist came in and told me I needed a deep cleaning. He then said none of it will be done that day. I had to book two other appointments to get the deep cleaning done. Not only that, he was going to charge me 600 bucks. I asked the clerks to double check and then he said "oh with your insurance it will be 319." I've done a deep cleaning before with lower insurance and at that time I was only charged 200 dollars, the first session was done on the initial visit and I just had to book one follow up appointment. Im not sure if the prices have jumped that much but I know I shouldn't have to make three visits for this for a deep cleaning. I was taking time off of work, and I had to use time off to do this because they are not open Saturday. I told the clerks that the whole thing doesn't sound right and I won't be booking anymore appointments with them. They tried to rip me off. They seem very dishonest. This was confirmed by me going to another dentist. I booked an appointment with Holistic Dentistry on Fairfax and Santa Monica Blvd. They are open Saturdays. Parking there was way easier too. The staff and Dentist there were super friendly, very informative, and did not try to rip me off. I got my X-rays done, my cleaning done, and a follow up appointment in 6 months. I wasn't charged a dime out of pocket because I have Delta Dental insurance. I didn't tell them about the experience I had with VIP so they wouldn't even have known to compare the experiences. If you don't mind being ripped off, maybe VIP does good dental work, but they will charge you unnecessarily so you gotta be careless or rich to go there in my opinion. I don't write a lot of reviews, but things like this, I have to. Customers are not well versed in this process and it's easy for customers to get ripped off when you're dealing with business people like these. I'm sure they don't care that I didn't go back because they were still able to charge my insurance for that visit and X-rays. read more

STAY AWAY! I went in in 2017 after purchasing one of those deals for $50 and I should have known better... Was a dental exam, x-rays, teeth whitening. Because of the time when I purchased that I didn't have dental insurance. When I made the appointment to go in a few months later I then had insurance. They found some cavities, specifically between the teeth ones. When I came back to fill them, they not only filled it in a way that was so heavy but also left extra filling around the teeth and sanded my teeth down badly. When I came back about the access filling they refilled a tooth but said they couldn't fix the access filling and I'd have to live with it. They also never gave me the whitening kit. They also made me pay out right for all of the dental work done instead of billing my insurance so that I had to file a claim for reimbursement. Four years later, I went to a different dentist and had similar cavities on the other side of my mouth. My new dentist was able to fix it without any issues and then fixed the cavities that VIP Dental Spas said weren't fixable so easily. read more

They got me in quickly and took X-rays at no extra cost. They were able to get three fillings done on the spot for almost $400 less than what the other place would have charged me. Moreover, VIP Dental Spas initially quoted me a price that was $2000 above what it should have been, only reducing it after I presented them with this information. They've also attempted to overcharge my insurance multiple times. While the receptionist is somewhat nice, I can't trust them. They even seem to post their own positive reviews.
