NGL, it's worth the hype here. Good dentists are really hard to find. Sometimes when you're on Yelp, you'll see a dentist with 300 five star reviews, but then you'll see 10 or so one star reviews and you wonder what is going on. It really is hard to find an actual good dentist absent a personal recommendation. Blue Pearl (and Dr. Amna Hussain) were absolutely fantastic. They use really cutting edge tech to x-ray, photograph and diagnose. The pain of visiting the dentist is actually gone. Dr. Amna made it a point to vocalize everything she was about to do and why, which was cool and calming. The entire visit wasn't expensive at all (no insurance here) and Dr Amna made it a point to take the entire process I'm involved in slowly so we can take the proper course, which was appreciated. Overall, great visit. If I were to make the most minor of complaints, maybe there are too many text messages prior to visit, but I think that's a ZocDoc thing and my own thing about getting too many messages. read more

Since they wanted me to leave a review so bad. They have QR codes on the tables when you walk in, the receptionist asked me to and they gave me a tote bag with a flyer with a QR code here we go. When I arrived I got a friendly welcome, I thought great start. Then I started hearing conversations (3 total) being very pushing about patients getting crowns. Me having horrible experiences with crowns, already made the decision this was not the route I was going to go. I came in for a filling falling out. My plan was just to get the filling filled. The assist took me back, does my X-rays and says it doesn't look too bad. She says she's going to talk you into a crown. I said it's not going to happen. I've had horrible experiences with crowns. Dr Hussain comes in, she's nice. And she goes, I think we should do a crown. I explain I don't want a crown. She's really pushing me. She tells me this filling isn't going to last long and she can't promise it won't break again. Mind you my old filling lasted me 20 years. I said just do the filling. It was $886. The crown was going to be a little over $3600, no wonder why she was pushing it. I had a 10 day work/vacation trip a few days later. The first few days I had sensitivity to hot and cold. I thought give it some time. She did do some drilling as well. About 5-6 days later my husband and I went to lunch and then a hike. I didn't have any floss and something got in between that tooth and was really hurting. I thought man something feels off. This continues to happen anytime I eat and don't floss right away. I finally call and make an appointment for when I get back. That appointment was for today. I go in. And to my surprise. I'll let you guess.... What's the solution to the problem? Yes a CROWN! Why you ask. Because in 2 weeks my gums receded, never heard of gums receding in 2 weeks. I walked out. Very disappointed. I thought, maybe I actually found a good place close by my house with an actual good hearted dentist. Sad! read more

I honestly don't know how this doesn't have 5 full stars. Dr. Huang is the kind of guy you want on your health care team. Not only is he skilled, patient, kind, and non-shaming about your dental care, but he's a solid member of the community who takes care of his people, and he personally called me to ask me how I was healing after two tooth extractions. The prices are very reasonable (I have Aetna Dental PPO) -- and they work with you on getting the most cost effective treatment plan possible. My only issue is parking -- but there's an easy work around - catty corner diagonal, on the west side of La Cienega, there's free parking without having to pay a meter. Too lazy to go all the way to San Gabriel Valley to my childhood dentist, I decided to look for a place closer to me to increase my own compliance. I found Blue Pearl Dentistry was close by and had great reviews. Reaching out online was easy and a nice option since I'm usually too busy to get on the phone. They had availability with Dr. Hussain quickly so I made the appt to establish care. My old dental office was very old without the bells and whistles of modern technology. I was amazed at the modern accomodations which are probably standard now but to me it was so fancy! X-ray images were uploaded and 3-D imaging of your teeth and bite were easily scanned. The facilities were clean and the office was located in a building with underground parking. Not to mention the staff are incredibly friendly, well organized, and professional. I was thoroughly impressed overall. Dr. Hussain was also very kind, knowledgeable, and explained everything clearly. She took her time in my cleaning and filling replacements and paid close attention to details and comfort. I'm really glad I found Blue Pearl Dentistry. I recently had my first appointment here at Blue Pearl to establish care and was blown away by the staff's professionalism and attentiveness to care. The tech was quick and efficient with her x-rays. I met with Dr. Hussain and she was very gentle and informative while walking me through of the state of my gums and teeth. Lastly, I forget the name of the hygienist, but she was also very educational and gentle with my cleaning, teaching me how to properly floss my teeth to prevent gingivitis :) they even gave me a blanket because it was so cold in the office. Here's an updated review because the people of Yelp need to know I still love this dentist office. I've been coming consistently for 10 years (or just shy of it), and it's been fantastic to see their continued growth, success and absolutely unwavering consistency in quality of service and *kindness*. I'm such a supporter of businesses that are, not only good at what they do, but also excel in making customers feel valued. About six months ago, I found out that Blue Pearl had recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary (and apparently I'm one of the early patients to join the practice!) and here are some things I've experienced over the past decade: * Walking into the office always feels like I'm reuniting with friends over lunch after having not seen them for a few months (to the point that when I found out about the anniversary party, I felt like my invitation must have simply been lost in the mail lol) * There are a few people who've been consistent faces from the very beginning, specifically calling out Walter, Diana, Natalee and obviously Dr. Huang. I don't know the insides of how this business functions, but from my outsider point of view, they really are the heart of the machine. But over the years, those who have come and gone have always been amazing additions to the team (shoutout to Dr. Lin). It's clear that there's a culture in the office that attracts top notch employees who care about their job and their patients. * Seriously, shout out to office manager Walter because he's always been so good at promptly answering random questions via email, fulfilling requests and being the welcoming first face you see when you walk into the office. * The tech they use in this office is still top notch. It seems like there's always a new gadget that makes visits more efficient and accurate. Obviously I haven't been in other dentist offices in over a decade, but even 10 years ago, it seemed that Blue Pearl was ahead of the curve on this. * They will keep your dental health in tip top shape, but you have to hold up your end of the deal! They're as big on preventative care as I am, and they're always very clear about potential issues to keep an eye on and how to keep them from becoming issues. This isn't an office that is going to sell you on treatments and procedures for the sake of it, especially when we can "wait and see" how things progress. * If you respond well to positive reinforcement like I do, a Blue Pearl visit will be a great big, twice a year dopamine hit. I've always hated the dentist. I am very sensitive to pain and the anesthesia has never fully worked for me. It's always been a painful and humbling experience. My last dentist was unkind and often shamed me for the state of my teeth. Unlike others, the folks at BluePearl really listen to me and want to see my dental health improve. Yesterday, they worked on multiple teeth -- I was at their offices for hours, but they made sure I was comfortable and taken care of the entire time. I even got patient of the day and received this lovely water bottle. It's been nearly 10 years now as Dr. Huang has been our family dentist. We used to live not far from Blue Pearl Dentistry. Now, as we live much farther away, we are still coming to Dr. Huang as he is the best. During these years Dr. Huang did beautiful fillings and crowns for us, and an oral surgery that was successful. I recently went to Dr, Huang to see if I needed to replace one of the old crowns that was installed about 20 years ago, and he determined that that crown was still in a good condition and didn't need to be replaced yet. I appreciate that Dr. Huang doesn't push for unnecessary procedures and always takes time to answer my questions. I remember the time when I called the reception with a question that only doctor could answer, so Dr. Huang gave me a call later in the day and answered my question. This tooth had been root canaled and crowned in my teens, and now that I'm in my late 30s, it broke. I like that, Dr. Huang first tried to see if it was possible to salvage this tooth, but after finding crack lines and decay, it was determined that this tooth lacked tooth structure and needed to be taken out. Dr. Huang made me aware that this was going to be a difficult extraction, but then proceeded to take it out in 20 minutes, and I literally fell asleep while he was doing it. There's video evidence since my friend was in the room recording...lol. Maybe it was the nitrous that put me at ease, but it was optional, and I had never tried it. It's been about a week, and I'm surprised at the lack of pain. I thought I would have discomfort after, but then again, I didn't have an infection. I'm glad I didn't require any medication since I dislike taking pills! No one looks forward to more surgeries, but this experience gave me the confidence I needed to move forward with the implant. DO NOT GET IMPLANT WORK HERE EVER!!!!!! It has taken me a year of physical and mental recovery to update my review because of the horrific and traumatic experience I had at this office that has left me with PERMANENT nerve damage in my face. I went in to have implants placed - and despite the doctor seeing that my bone was potentially too soft he did not speak to a specialist and decided to attempt the procedure. I opted to be awake for this and just numbed. After they pulled the first tooth and started to place the implant I knew something was wrong. Not because someone told me - no they treated me like a car on a lift and didn't communicate anything - but because the dentist started FRANTICALLY digging around in my jaw and taking repeated X-rays as I could feel the panic rising. I had to ASK the assistant what was going on when they all got up and went to abandon me in the chair. And when I say digging around I mean he literally was repeatedly sticking his metal tool into the hole where the implant was because he had LOST. THE. IMPLANT. That's right. When I saw the xray it was not where it was supposed to be but had fallen to the bottom of my jaw because the bone was in fact too soft. At no point has the dentist spoken to me about the issue until I start demanding to know WTF is going on. At this point I have tears streaming down my face and my anxiety has skyrocketed. He tells me he has to totally stop what he's doing and I have to drive over an hour to an oral surgeon to fix what he did. I tearfully ask if I can leave and they say yes. I run out of the office sobbing to realize that my mouth is FULL OF BLOOD. No gauze. Nothing. I am spitting mouthfuls of blood onto the sidewalk before they call me and ask me to come back???? They shove some gauze in my mouth and let me leave. This was the singlehanded most horrifying and traumatic procedure of my life. I cannot feel my chin/face near the front of my mouth and for the last year wasn't able to have full control of my lip. It gave me a lisp and made me incredibly self conscious. I am STILL in the process of getting things fixed that were messed up by this doctor and the nerve damage will be a forever reminder. This entire office should be ashamed of that day and how they treated me. read more
