Dr. Afsoon Barkhordar is one of the kindest and most personable dentists that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Not only is she an excellent physician, but she genuinely cares and feels for her patients. Front desk and staff are sweet and accommodating, and the office is clean with beautiful views. I came to her in terrible shape - previous dentists missed a very deep cavity which was eating away at my nerve and causing major sensitivity. Dr. Afsoon identified my problems, performed a root canal, and did a wonderful job. I am very nervous when it comes to dental work and Dr. Afsoon was patient and understanding. It was probably the worst dentist expenerice ever out of my whole entire life. we kept the dentist for 3 years and also during corona time due to having medical insurance for our 5 year old child but the dentist is always on high energy angry mode and the receptionist keeps changing. They never pick up nor return phone calls. their office schedule changes all the time and I had to chase dentist all the time for scheduling and last time she yelled at my ex husband for some reason then told me she can't work on child's teeth anymore and the second time she fixed my child's teeth,the filings actually came off right after. very rude and not professional at all! It is IMPOSSIBLE to make an appointment. I've been trying for months because it seems like the quality of care is high and, as someone who fears dentists, I appreciate that. Most of the times I call the person on the phone say they have no appointments and they will call back if anything opens up. I've tried making a future appointment and I get the same response and never receive a call back. The last time I called the person on the phone said I needed to send them my insurance information and kept cutting me off as I asked how I would do that and how would I know what to include. The person said they would text me an email and hung up. They never even took my phone number, how would they know where to text me any information? I came to Dr. Barkhordar's office a few times for cleanings. The first time she was a little curt and the cleaning was more aggressive than I was accustomed to, but Ayla at the front desk was really friendly and I thought I'd give the office another go in 6 months. When I returned Ayla was still very friendly and helpful. Dr. Barkhordar, however, had gone from curt to flat out rude. Her cleanings had gone from aggressive to violent. There was blood everywhere. I floss every night and brush twice daily. She accused me of improper dental hygiene. First dentist to ever even hint at this idea. Through the whole cleaning she complained about my insurance company and how I should drop them. When the cleaning was complete she alluded to me never coming back and gave a very definitive Goodbye. Today was my second visit to her office, First time I waited too long to get checked in and today second time not only i waited too long again but also was treated so poorly by her ! Get another dentist: I'm so glad I did. So there were the usual problems (waiting over an hour with an appointment) but then ones that were totally unacceptable. First mild one: she was talking to someone while giving me my cleaning.... over her shoulder. She ended up rubbing fluoride all over my face. Second problem: she does NOT care about your concerns. My dad is a 2 time jaw cancer survivor so I'm really wary about X-rays in my mouth. She would ALWAYS fight me on this (more insurance money to be had on charging for X-rays perhaps?) and the one time I caved, she had the nerve to say she'd spilt coffee on them and had to do them again. I thought she was joking. HOW?! Isn't it digital?? Third and more egregious: she led me to believe that something was wrong, seriously wrong, in my mouth... but she COULDN'T SAY WHAT. She said it wasn't her area of expertise and I needed to go to a specialist..... WHO ENDED UP BEING HER FRIEND. Course this friend wasn't on my insurance, and I had to wait a week to see her, meaning I thought I had cancer for a fucking week. It ended up that I needed a gum transplant, and her friend said it would cost 6,000 dollars........ I ended going to UCLA for a second opinion and they said they could do it (and what she wanted to do was actually wrong and would not work on my situation) for $450. After that, I dropped her. I still get so mad thinking about the experience. Who plays on someone's fear of cancer like that?? TL;DR She's a bad dentist, not a good person, and nearly cost me $5,500 in bad advice. read more

Every time I've gone for a cleaning I've had to wait over an hour before I was seen, and today was no different. I waited for an hour and fifteen minutes, and still no one had walked in the door to get the process started. The receptionist mentioned they were short staffed and running behind. I never want to come here again. They made us made two hours without any work done and this was with appointment. I understand 20-30 min await but two hours! First time I came here it was about 40 mins wait and now two hours. I came with my daughters yes I'm sorry I can't do anything about it. - in 2011 fall, I had gum surgery with this dentist. Because of her lack of skill, my gum surgery led to a mouthful of gum infection and I could not eat for 2 weeks. - I threatened to sue her for malpractice. So she refunded me some of the excessive payment which I paid her for. - I told her office to stop telemarketing and emailing me. They did not stop. She actually had the gut to send me LinkedIn invite this week! And this is 2015. -very dishonest and unethical - she showed me a pricing and how much she is going to bill the insurance company. she was begging with me to pay her more saying that insurance company will pay her very little. After my procedure, my insurance company sent me the Explanation of Benefit that showed how much they paid her. The whole time she was lying - they paid her a lot! - I am yelping her NOW so that she and her office would stop spamming me and marketing me. You can probably go there to get your teeth clean. This dentist is representing the embodiment of misrepresentation, I had call and make it clear that the exam is free and the assistance confirmed. What is free is to sit on her chair for two minute and she ask for $200, that is misrepresentation. I have to take off on a Monday morning under the windy day on a bike go to her office at 11:30 sharp, to get the worse and nastiest attitude from Mrs. Afsoon herself. "I don't have time to see you now, I can only give you two minutes." I told her that 's you assistant give me an appointment, so finally she find herself obligated to see me, but reluctantly. I show her on my laptop my full mouth digital x-ray, as I also emailed them before I arrive and every thing was scheduled and agreed. Phenomenal LA Dentist! Excellent Communicating Doctor, I was very impressed... Moved to LA from Orange County and was looking for a good Dentist. My sister referred me over to Dr. Afsoon and I took advantage of the special offer she had for new clients, which was a great deal! I checked out her website before and was happy to see she went to UCSF, which is like the best Dental School in California! I am self employed so my schedule is very busy, when I called to make an appointment I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Afsoon was open on Saturday of that week I wanted to get my teeth cleaned, so this was a huge plus for me considering my busy weekday schedule. Her office was very centrally located, and the waiting area was very comfortable, and welcoming. Dr. Afsoon personally welcomed me as a new client, and I felt very comfortable from the beginning, she was really nice and explained exactly what she was doing. I first got my X rays, and then I went in for the cleaning. She really took her time cleaning my teeth, and I never had a Dentist be so thorough with a cleaning in my life! When the cleaning was done, she personally went over my X-rays with me and really explained everything that was going on with my teeth. I tend to ask a lot of questions because I am curious person, and she was able to answer my questions in detail and she was very knowledgeable. I now know what a cavity on an X-ray looks like! I have nice teeth and intend to keep them until I am very old, so finding a Dentist that is knowledgeable, trustworthy and caring is very important to me. Dr. Afsoon is an absolutely amazing Dentist! I would recommend Dr. Afsoon to all my friends, and I actually already have! Summary: Don't go here. Dr. Barkhodar's unprofessional and doesn't care about doing a good job. I went in for a routine cleaning and arrived 30 minutes early to fill out new patient forms. I finished 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment time and still had to wait 15 minutes to be seen. Even though there was no one else before me or in the waiting room. She took pictures of my teeth with a device that wasn't properly cleaned after each use. When I asked her how she cleans it, she said "It doesn't touch your teeth because I hold it". It touched my teeth. Half the pictures she took weren't saved because she didn't properly show the new dental assistant how to take the pictures. She asked me questions and filled out the form with a pen while wearing gloves she used to examine my mouth. When she went to put the forms away, she took off the gloves, folding one inside out and dropping it on the tray with the cleaning tools. When I asked her to switch gloves and tools, she asked me why. I told her that they were no longer sterile because her gloves were all over the cleaning tools. When she got out a new package of sterilized tools, she dumped them on the tools that had touched the inside of her glove. I had to ask her to change the entire tray. The cleaning itself resulted in an alarming amount of blood. I've never bled that much after a tooth cleaning. I was still bleeding after I left. When she got to the polishing part of the cleaning, the entire head of the brush spun and sprayed the polishing toothpaste everywhere. She skipped the flossing and told me she was done. To top it all off, she was incredibly mean to the new dental assistant she was training. After taking the pictures and discovering that half weren't saved, she told the assistant to "Just do things as instructed. This way they're done properly and we don't have to repeat it. I hate repeating things". Dr. Barkhodar's a hypocrite. 0/10 would not recommend. Avoid this dental practice. To the new dental assistant: You deserve better. read more

Dr. Afsoon is great! I had a chipped molar with exposed pulp that was KILLING me, literally! If you know anything about tooth pain, then you know what I'm talking about. That mind numbing pain that radiates through your jaw and up into your skull. Yes, that pain. I wanted that molar out! And was willing to do it myself. Lucky for me Dr. Afsoon thought it would be a better idea if she did it for me! So she went out of her way to meet me at her office within the hour, even though she had a convention in Orange County she had to be at. And we know with LA traffic that can become a 2 hour drive. She greeted me with a smile. Took care of the pain. Got me comfortable. Removed the tooth. And worried about the paperwork at the end. WOW! What a great dentist and a great human being. I can say nothing but good things about Dr. Afsoon. If you are looking for a great dentist who is willing and happy to go above and beyond for her patients, Dr. Afsoon Barkhordar is the one. I finally got insurance and was excited to be going to the dentist (it's been 7 years...yikes). Long story short the first dentist I went to did my check up from a distance with barely any light and gave me an estimate of $2,000. Uh I don't think so... So I decided to get a second opinion and that's when I found Dr. Afsoon on yelp. I go for my check up, I'm given mirror to hold up so I can see for myself what type of work I need done. She points out to a tooth I get random pain in and let me know It was infected. She was so detailed... I loved it!! I brought my husband in as well and he wanted to do everything on his first appointment lol we had to calm him down. He had a self confidence issue with a tooth that no dentist wanted to extract, 4 dentists to be exact. Dr. Afsoon understood his frustration and extracted the tooth on his first visit. I discovered her through a promotional postcard (in an Indian restaurant in Culver City) some years ago, and have turned over my teeth to her expert care ever since. Whether she is doing fillings, doing a periodic dental cleaning, or (as happened a few months ago) pulling a wisdom tooth, whatever the particulars, I always sense acutely her attentive, careful, and caring approach. In my experience, Afsoon is essentially a talented artist, who happens to have devoted her skills to this valuable healing profession. It seems at times like architecture on a minescule scale, or like the art of the Persian miniature, enacted in dental space. Along with her consummate talent as a dentist, Dr. Barkhordar always has a warm and friendly demeanor -- such that a visit to her office proves a cheering and uplifting experience. I realize many people might not think of a dental visit in these rosy terms, but it would surprise me if other dental clients of hers did not share my view. When I first visited Afsoon a few years ago, my dental life had been completely neglected (I had lived in Asia for a few years, and had not bothered to pay attention to any dental needs). Step by step, she has been bringing my teeth up-to-date, winning the quiet battle that is waged in every mouth (after a certain age, I suppose). DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST!! This dentist does not care about her patients what so ever!! Why? So I went to her to get the filling of one of my teeth checked because it was giving me pain for over a month. She had an intern getting trained and I shoulda know by the way she was treating that girl that this was not going to go well. She would yell at her and the poor girl could barely even talk. Anyway, they finish taking the X-rays after 20ish minutes (for only 2 x-rays) and then she looks at my tooth explaining how important it is to redo the filling and since I told her my cavity was very shallow she explains that there's no need to do a root canal. She sees some bumps on the tooth, cleans them and tells me to give her updates at the 2week mark. So I emailed her a week after saying I'm in so much pain and my tooth is getting more sensitive. She basically told me that all of a sudden she no longer can guarantee that redoing the filling is going to work and she recommends me to go get someone else's opinion and basically that she no longer can help me! It's totally fine if she does not how to help me but why wouldn't she tell me that when I was there instead of wasting my time? Also, what type of a dr just sends their patients off like that? And how could you ever trust a dr like this? I do not recommend going to her even if she is the only dentist in LA! I have been going to see Ms. B, twice a year, for almost six years. Moving to CA from the Midwest and trying to find a trustworthy Dentist was difficult at first. I had awful experiences in LA with cost and insurance issues, with snobby Dentists, prior to finding her offices. From a poor college grad to a self sustained business women, Afsoon has been able to schedule me late and on weekends, works with me on prices and she makes my teeth look perfect anytime I need something done. She is a perfectionist and when it comes to my teeth, I love that! I would not spend a cent on anyone else. I LOVE to floss - thanks to Dr. Barkhordar! I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Barkhordar over 2 years ago when I went in for a cleaning. It called her office after 4pm on a Friday and the doctor graciously agreed to do my cleaning that same day a little after 5pm - that is what I call amazing service! She offered a special for first time patients - which I thought was great. I was greeted by a lovely smiling face and she made me feel so comfortable Her office is convenient, very clean and inviting. I also learned she offered Saturday appointments which worked great for my busy schedule. I developed a great relationship with the doctor and she completed all of my dental work over the last 2 years. She is sensitive to my needs and is always so accommodating and flexible. I have beautiful all white fillings now (got rid of all that silver!) and am proud to say that I have no new cavities - thank you! The doctor really encouraged me to practice good dental hygiene and she promised me that if I started flossing regularly that I would soon be unable to go a day without it, plus my teeth would thank me for it - she was right! I have referred family members to Dr. Barkhordar and they all love her. A special mention for my mother who quit smoking a few months after beginning to see Dr. Barkhordar. Dr. Barkhordar helped encourage this positive change since her dental health was being greatly affected. Now every time my mother and I go in for our cleanings and check up the doctor tells my mother how proud she is of her and shares with her the major positive difference in her dental health since quitting cigarettes.
