Utter incompetence! I have had many medical and dental services over my lifetime but this office truly baffled me. They don't know how to schedule appointments- seriously. For example, my insurance allows 4 cleanings per year, in other places they were calendared ahead of time one each quarter. Here: they only schedule 1 appointment, then tell you the next available appointment is 4 months. So basically you miss your second cleaning. So you ask them to proactively schedule the 4th appointment so you ensure you have it- they won't! Then to top it off they just cancel your appointment because all the hygienists call out sick on the same day. You would think they would try to fit those clients into the schedule. No! Most unprofessional office I have ever encountered. Left my appointment feeling like the oral surgeon was talking down to me and he told me that I had a very high risk of dying during a standard wisdom teeth removal... I was shocked and in disbelief but if the oral surgeon wasn't comfortable performing the procedure, that's fine, he referred me elsewhere anyways. After being referred to an alternate physician, it was impossible to get them to release my medical records for this new physician. I called everyday requesting my records be faxed/emailed, requested to speak to a manager, etc. Was actually unable to get through to anyone in this office, the woman who answered the phone states she works from home or another location and doesn't have the ability to transfer you or get in contact with the office either. I've never experienced such unprofessionalism and incompetence. Incredibly frustrating and the oral surgeon is condescending. Went elsewhere and was told that I will have no issues because I am young and healthy. The oral surgeon was baffled by what he heard about my experience with this office. DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

Bunch of con artists. Tried overcharging me for two fillings and ended up giving me a "free" evaluation despite having unknowingly had a full evaluation during my cleaning at the commack location. An evaluation they felt needed to be done less than 3 weeks after my cleaning/evaluation at Commack. Now I can't get an evaluation done for the rest of the year under my insurance and no other place will see me without an evaluation of their own. Would give zero stars if I could. I do not recommend the The Smilist Dental (Smithtown, NY) as the clerical and billing staff are the most incompetent people I have had to work with in a professional office. I have had numerous errors in prior billing that were all resolved several years ago. But I recently have been receiving text and email messages for a $40 invoice which, when I called two weeks ago, I was assured was paid at the time of service several years ago. When I called last week to complain, I was again assured this "debt" would be closed as invalid. However, today I received a text and email again trying again to collect. When I called the billing office, I was told the bill was from my adult son, but I have been billed as the records show I am the "head of household" on their records. I advised them several years ago that my son is not in my household, I am not financially responsible for him, and he has his own dental insurance. I was assured at that time that that they would remove my name from my sons account and bill him directly if there is any balance due. When I called today and complained again about an invalid bill and that my son is not my responsibility, and that if not cleared up today I would begin a social medical post about THE SMILIST and there billing practices the billing representative, instead of trying to rectify the issue, became agitated and expressed her competence than hung up the phone on me. read more

Zero rating. I go for a cleaning 2x a year. I used to see Sue from Dr Fishers office but her hours do not accommodate mine anymore. My last cleaning they said I would need a deep cleaning and with laser and sweet air (over 2 visits) would be 750 out of pocket. Ok - did the first half and had sweet air the entire time- dental anxiety. The second appointment the tech was not ready for me. The entire first appointment I was told how long this is and I needed two appointments. I did not get the sweet air and I kept asking and was told I didnt need it - then the tech had the nerve to tell me it was mainly oxygen last time. After she hurt my mouth I got up and left. Never going back and will find a dentist and tech who is kind and patient and will not upsell me. read more

I really like my dentist and dental hygienist but unfortunately I will not be coming back unless the office returns the 1,000$ that they have stolen from my insurance. They charged my insurance for an orthodontic treatment I have never received or agreed to. I have called them a few times asking them to refund the money to my insurance. They have only refunded a portion. Now, when I call the billing department no one answers the phone. This makes me think that there have been other times when I have been incorrectly charged. Every single person in this office- from Gina and the rest of the front desk personnel, to wonderful Angela the hygienist, to excellent Dr. Oh, are so professional and personable! Dr. Zeidman was verbally abusive to my family member and suffered in pain because of his purposeful neglect. Avoid seeing him at all costs. The worst part is, we reached out to the regional managers and administration and no one has responded. The company encourages the doctors at the smilist to neglect their patients and can't even apologize for the disturbing behavior. This company should be ashamed. Last cleaning I had, they told me I had two cavities. They filled them but one was still giving me issues and a tooth next to it was now having issues. After visiting back THREE times, I was told that they would redo my filling and they found an air pocket in it. I asked how that happens, and they told me they were unsure. I wanted to make sure that this would fix it, as I was moving and my dental insurance was ending. I was reassured it was fixed. Fast forward, still pain issues. Went to another dentist, had to pay out of pocket for them now to send me to a specialist. My new dentist told me that I have a fracture in my tooth (which the smilist NEVER told me). The Smilist called asking for money because a certain part of my previous insurance didn't cover it. You're asking me for money when my teeth have more issues than before I came? I have no idea what they did to my teeth, all I know it's been almost 5 months and my mouth is still in pain/I cannot chew on the right side of my mouth. I wish they didn't touch my cavities cause I didn't even have pain previously. Don't go to them. read more

I have to say this practice has to be one of the worst I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Not only have they destroyed a tooth (#27) by using a dentist that couldn't figure out the equipment and left me with an unfinished root canal, the tooth ended up being extracted. I had to deal with a new dentist every time I turned around. I had one dentist that looked at my xray to do some work, told me ok, fine, and then I received a call three days before my appointment that he was leaving in three days and would not be doing my procedure, someone else would!! If it wasn't the fact that they didn't have a dentist available to see me, they sent the wrong information to my insurance company. I have been waiting months to get my lower dentures only to receive a call yesterday that they NOW don't accept my insurance!!! This left me with no partial denture on the bottom, the top still needs work and I have to find another dentist to take over all the work. they gave NO NOTICE AT ALL.... NONE!! that they were dropping my insurance. And the shame of it is, that they leave their front desk people to deliver the bad news to patients that are in the middle of procedures.... like the COWARDS that the directors of this practice are!! YOU tell me something doesn't stink at the "Smilist". Well, they did nothing for my smile that's for sure and if you are smart..... you would stay away from them too~! I started coming here to get my first cleaning in a long time. I've had really bad experiences at the dentist before so I was nervous at first. I'm not a fan of the dentist. However, when I came here I left much better then how I came in and in no pain whatsoever. I was also informed that I would need to replace my old fillings with new ones. So my next appointment was for a filling, and I couldn't believe how fast, easy and painless it was. I'm used to these metal fillings dentist used to use. Now they use this white material as the filling which completely looks like the tooth. The dentist was very gentle and it went by so fast, I wanted them to just do another one. We love Dr. Fisher - followed him from his private practice - but do not like the Smilist offices. The Smilist simply buys up practices of dentists, especially those close to retirement, and adds a lot of scheduling difficulty and bureaucracy to the experience of going to the dentist. They have constant staff turnover that we have observed over the last three years and you often have to go through layers of people if you have a problem or even to do something simple like reschedule. And your dentist can't really intervene for you if there is an issue since he or she is just an employee. All these investment groups that are buying up medical and dental practices these days try to put a friendly veneer over their lack of patient concern and care but you are just a consumer. We recently took my dad to The Smilist Dental Smithtown when his dentist retired and (apparently) sold his practice to these people. This is the type of despicable "cash register" business model that is just wrong on so many levels. Of course it is not a crime to make money, but sorry, preying on people, seniors under the guise of medical care is just repulsive to me and should be to everyone. Their message is clear and simple: upsell , upsell, upsell and never stop the charges. They almost dragged my dad down a horrible path with unnecessary major work they were trying to sell. Thankfully we stopped it right after the consultation. When we went to a real dentist the following week, we found the work actually required was about 20% of what The Smilist was proposing. He then received an invoice for an implant in the mail, oh right, but there was no work performed . What is it, a pro-forma invoice? Aggressive, obnoxious, poor communication, rip-off. I am so irritated with this practice. I followed my dentist to this practice and that is the only reason I have gone here. My dentist is amazing, but these front desk people have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I made an appointment and asked if my insurance was covered, then was informed AFTER my appointment that I wasn't and needed to pay out of pocket. My boyfriend also made an appointment in which front desk told him YES we accept your insurance, he got his cleaning, took off his job to get cavities fixed at a later appointment and was called the morning of saying they don't accept his insurance. He now missed a day of work that he won't get paid for and has to pay out of pocket as well for his first visit considering they have no idea how to look up what insurance is covered apparently. All in the middle of a pandemic in which he hasn't been getting paid consistently. The receptionist at the old private practice would have never allowed this or made this mistake. read more

If I could give zero stars to The Smilist dental in Smithtown, I would. My whole family joined this practice because like so many have said, loved our dentist and hygienist from his prior two dentist practice. This practice is truly a money hungry business at their patient's expense. I have never received a bill from my old dentists practice and now every month I am receiving bills for over $500.00 with no explanation, these people are in my plan. Okay, so perhaps they made a mistake, let me call them to straighten it out...NOOOOO, called 5x, even left messages for their office manager and no one calls back. To make matters even worse, I wrote to them 3 letters and no response just a bill every month with a different amount each time. Then they charge a no-show fee for an appointment they made over 8 months in advance with no appointment reminder via home phone, cell or text and charge you a no-show fee. Even wrote to the BBB and they didn't receive a response either. I am pretty patient and understand the crazy world we live in and what hectic times all these different practices had and still have but not communicated and trying to rectify problems is absolutely wrong. Normally when someone repeats a question many times; that would be an annoyance. However, when the questions are coming from Angela, and she is cleaning your teeth; the question; "Are you ok?" is VERY welcome. Because it is a constant reminder that, not only does she genuinely care about your comfort etc; but that you are being given numerous opportunities to let her know if something is bothering you, or painful. My teeth were in bad shape but the work she did was virtually pain free! Angela is very intelligent, friendly, professional, and a great listener. She adapts to your needs, moment by moment. As as former long time dental assistant I had to take my husband in to get caught up on his dental treatment and I was super excited by finding the quality that The Smilist presents. The office was very clean and they kept each of the operatories nicely organized. We saw Ingrid and Dr. A. I give them both an A++! They were so friendly and funny. Dr A did a great job explaining treatment with the time that they had. I wished we had more than an hour to get a more thorough cleaning but completely understood considering the catch up work that needed to be done. Deceptively big modern clean office. The experience was painless and I walked away with a sigh that there were no cavities found and my mouth felt the best in a long time! However my experience at this office has been so incredibly life changing for me I felt it's the least I can do to show my gratitude. Like many others I am not a fan of the dentist. My phobia was so crippling that instead of addressing my issues I opted for living in constant pain as I just could not get myself in that dentist chair. The agony finally became so bad that I could not eat or drink without extreme caution. Then my wife made me an appointment with Dr.Agliato. Dr.A is nothing short of a magician with a dental drill. Last time I was there I literally dozed off while she was giving me a root canal. She is extremely calming, light handed, and her work is meticulous. I've never even needed so much as a Motrin after an appointment. Not only is Dr.A a dental wizard but her entire staff is composed of extremely helpful and friendly people. I am very disappointed with my visit to the Smilist. After reading all the positive reviews I was convinced that my fear of going to the dentist would be no more. If anything, now it's worse. I went to have two wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Pan. He was rude from the beginning. I expressed how nervous I was and he looked at me like I had three heads. He gave the impression that I was wasting his time and laughed at me on many occasions. He honestly made me feel so stupid while I was there that I wouldn't feel comfortable calling the office for aftercare questions. If my husband ever spoke to his patients that way I would have some words. Dr. Pad definitely needs to work on his bedside manner. I will never return here. read more

I went to the Smilist for an X-ray and a cleaning where they told me that I had multiple cavities that needed to be filled as soon as possible. After sending my X-rays to a different dentist that I trust for a second opinion he told me the x-rays that they took were no good and so he took his own. He told me that I absolutely did not need any work done and that filling anything would have been a big mistake. I understand that these places are business' and need to make money but I would be extremely careful about what you have done here as it seems they are over diagnosing or prescribing work that may not need to be done.
