That's absurd to pay $16.50 and no fries included. Fries were an additional $10.50. The worst part is the tenders were underwhelming; no flavor at all until dipped in ranch dressing. I can only speak for the tenders and fries. Unfortunately, this is the second time I've ordered from Southern Chick and it was consistently underwhelming both times. I'm not interested in finishing the rest.

The food was solid - yummy and healthy, and I love that the ingredients are locally sourced. However, I ended up cancelling early (had planned on several weeks in a row) since the overall experience was not that convenient and definitely not worth the cost. 1) Flavors: The food tasted good, but most of the time was very similar to what I would make for myself. If it were just a matter of saving time, that would be fine. But for $32 a meal, I was hoping to enjoy the chef's skills and eat something a little more interesting. For example, every single vegetable side had only garlic and no other spices. Also, the grains were usually completely plain (e.g. plain rice, plain quinoa). 2) Variety: Across the nine meals I tried, there was a great deal of repetition of the sides. 3) Size: For $32 a plate, would have been nice to have smaller grain and larger protein. 4) The logistics: There was no detail on the website or even after ordering regarding how the delivery would occur. I then was told the only option was a six-hour window starting at 6am. Also, I had to send a number of emails to clarify the procedure. Uri always wrote back pretty quickly, but it was too many emails in my opinion. Finally, we received a 30-day invoice only to get an email a couple weeks later asking the bill to be paid immediately.

Delivered on Monday, my meals stack stealthily in the fridge waiting to fuel my busy days. There's a whole lot to love about these meals; variety, flavor, freshness, convenience, and nutrition! It's awesome to know I'm feeding myself so well so easily and affordably. I look forward to cracking open a Portable Chef meal to see the colorful food my mom would certainly approve. If only she lived closer, I would sign her up too! The silver lining of Portable Chef is they are a small business in New York, which means a heck of a whole lot to me as a consumer. When you give them your business, you're supporting not only their talented team but also all the local food providers they have cultivated which are also small businesses! First of all, the owner and her brother are extremely sweet and very gracious to their customers. This is better than your average soul food, I really dont think there are words in the english language to describe how perfect their macaroni and cheese was. I'm not sure where they are moving after the Dekalb Market, but they definitely do catering so if you're in the market give them a shot.

In 2022, I hired Great Performances to help celebrate the launch of my book at the iconic Strand Bookstore in NYC. I flew in friends and family for what was meant to be a milestone moment. A day before the event, I contracted COVID and, heartbreakingly, had to cancel. The contract clearly stated that in cases of force majeure--like illness--neither party would be at fault. I no longer lived in NYC, so rescheduling wasn't viable. I reached out, respectfully and in good faith, to discuss paying a portion of the nearly $6,000 charge. Instead of any further acknowledgment, I was ghosted. They stopped answering my emails entirely. No returned calls, no response--just silence. I then worked through American Express, who initially agreed I shouldn't be liable. But after years of back and forth, I was told the full charge would stand. Throughout this time, I have yet to speak with a single human being from this company. This isn't just poor customer service. It's a failure of integrity. They collected thousands of dollars for an event that never happened, provided no flexibility, no dialogue, no professionalism. I waited to write this review in hopes of resolution. That hope is gone. So is my money. If you care about decency, transparency, or the simple act of being treated like a human being--look elsewhere.
