I was really looking forward to trying this place. I was underwhelmed with the food and drink options and the service experience. There are some dedicated parking spaces that have a three hour limit if dining. Upon arrival, I entered the inside restaurant space for Dakota's on the Grove. It was aesthetically pleasing. I should have sat inside here instead of in their outdoor space which they call The Grove at Dakota's. I was able to choose where I wanted to sit, so I chose a table near this shed where the bartender/waiter was. I noticed they were setting up for the Knicks Game 3 final and there were two large TVs and a projection screen. I overheard the waiter state that the area would be packed for the game tonight. There was also good music playing throughout. They had a large connect four, which would be nice to play. They are family friendly and had high chairs for babies and toddlers. When sitting outside they state that they have to preauthorize your card. Now getting onto the food. I was seated and provided with two menus. I immediately asked for a happy hour menu and then I waited for about 15 minutes, until I followed up with another waiter who brought out the menu for me. For the happy hour menu before I received my food I initially thought the prices were good, but upon receiving my food it was evident that the prices are off in terms of the portion size of the food. I ordered a $5 slider. I thought it would be a decent size. It was incredibly small. For the $5 price they should give at minimum 2 sliders but ideally 3. This would incentivize people to buy more. The slider was the best thing I tasted while there and I would have liked more but I couldn't justify spending another $5 when it was so tiny. The tiny slider appeared to be the portion size for a toddler. I ordered calamari which was $9. I was initially disappointed that there was such a small amount. I was even more disappointed when I tasted them. They tasted very "fishy." They absolutely needed a squeeze of lemon and fresh cracked black pepper to try and balance and mask the taste. I believe the portion size for the fries was also off for $5. The fries came in a teacup. Fries are something that people tend to order to have something to pick at while dining and it would make sense I think to provide more fries for the same price. I also could not justify getting another set of fries in a small teacup for $5. I did not like the taste of the fries. When the sparse calamari, tiny beef slider, and small teacup of fries came out, I realized I would not be full and ordered chicken wings from the happy hour menu. You have to get a minimum of 6. You cannot mix the flavors. They were out of the dockside fire sauce so I went with the garlic parm. These wings did not taste like garlic parm. The garlic parm seemed like an afterthought, which was just sprinkled on the wings at the very end. The chicken itself did not have much flavor. They did not mention providing any dipping sauce. I asked for blue cheese and I had to wait for about ten minutes and then remind another waiter that I was still waiting for my blue cheese. They were out of the mozzarella sticks. Moving onto the drinks. While I get being outside and maybe wanting to serve drinks in plastic to minimize glassware breaking, I did not enjoy being served Pinot Noir in a plastic cup or the white cranberry lemon drop in a plastic cup. Each time I was taken aback that they weren't offered in glassware. I got the $7 Pinot Noir from the happy hour menu. A regular glass of Pinot Noir is $9. I also ordered the white cranberry lemon drop which is priced at $12 and is not included on the happy hour menu. The drink came out in the same sized small plastic cup as the Pinot Noir. I think once again that glassware should be used. When ordering a lemon drop you tend to expect a chilled frosty glass with a sugar rim, and that was not what I received here. I think the sugar rim would have elevated the taste profile of the drink. All in all, I really liked the outdoor area. I would probably only return to get a canned beer in the outside section. I hope they start to carry some sour beer options. I do not see myself trying the food again, with the exception of a burger (since the burger was really good.) I did have an inquiry regarding the pre-authorization charge and the final charge that I saw on my credit card. I called and left a message and the restaurant got back to me quickly, which I really appreciated. read more

I'd heard about Dakota's from my friend Pat, who would post pictures here. Plus, it's in Throggs Neck- an area I know well from when I used to teach nearby. It was time for us Bronxites to have a catch-up session filled with laughs, good conversation and all the latest life updates. Turns out, it was absolutely worth it. We kicked things off with appetizers: mussels in a delicious wine+garlic sauce, a mixed greens salad with the creamiest+silky whipped feta dressing which was layered on the bottom and a tuna tartare served with crisp little breads that made every bite hit just right. The first round of drinks were nice. My Bellini wasn't made with the traditional peach purée and instead, they used like a peach liqueur. But honestly? It was still banging. Actually, it definitely had me feeling woozy. We were still hungry and decided to share the linguine with clams and the fish and chips. Thankfully, the fish portion was generous- but the chips? Way too skimpy for all that fish. The linguine with clams was delicious, but for $24, the portion was small with like only 6 tiny clams. Round two of cocktails and wine arrived and let's just say they hit real good. Service was incredible from start to finish- attentive in every sense of the word without hovering. Dakota's on the Cove has been in my periphery for a while. Up until today, I had not been here since the space was its former occupant, Ice House. While I had heard mixed things about Dakota's, I wanted to check it out for myself. I had been meaning to catch up with some of my IRL Yelp friends, and thought this would be a great place to meet up - so off we went. Dakota's is located right on the water in Throgg's Neck and provides great views of the marina. The dining area is separated into a front room, bar area, back room, outdoor patio, and a biergarten area. The decor and aesthetics have a nautical vibe - think blues, greys, and whites with lots of clean lines. One of my friends told me that the menu is relatively new, as they got a new chef ~ 2 weeks ago. The menu isn't large, in fact it's somewhat limited in my view; there are a few apps, mains, and sides - but I would like to have seen an expanded salad selection (there are only two on the menu) and a sandwich section, especially given the aesthetics and the fact that they're open for lunch. We decided to start by sharing some apps and one of their salads: the tuna tartare, the mussels, and the specific salad name escapes me but it had feta whip. Everything was very good - the tuna was fresh and came with some thin crostini that provided a welcome contrast in texture. The salad was flavorful, but the portion was small for the price and the combination of feta whip with the dressing made it a little too wet. The mussels were great - we chose to have them prepared in a white wine sauce which was super flavorful. It came with two pieces of focaccia which were good albeit slightly stale; crostini would have been better. For mains, we split two: the fish and chips and the linguine with clam sauce. The former was pretty good - two generous pieces of fish, but it could have used more fries; the apple slaw it was served with cut through the heaviness of the dish well. The linguini was also good, however it's hard for me to justify a pasta dish being over $30 - especially in this case where there were relatively few clams and the portion was not big. We also ordered a side of broccoli rabe which was good - though the addition of some garlic bulbs/slices would have elevated it. For desert we split the lemon gelée abd biscoff cheesecake. I wasn't a fan of the former, it had a tough-ish consistency and lacked flavor; the cheesecake was better. Service was excellent; we made conversation with several members of staff while we were there - including the owner. They are really putting an effort in to make this place great and I saw it in all aspects of my experience. Overall, I had a great time at Dakota's; I think they still need to fine-tune their menu, especially in relation to portion sizes and prices. However, if this is an improvement from where they were, then they're taking a step in the right direction. read more

Dakota's On The Cove has really grown and adapted to what the neighborhood wants over time. We love being able to take a quick walk over for some bites and cocktails because the vibes are great and the hospitality is always on point. I'm also happy to report that their happy hour, though still in its early stages, is shaping up to be a solid way to give them a try. We ordered the mussels frites, fish sliders, crab bites, Brussels sprouts, and the pretzel with cheese. The absolute standouts were the fish sliders and the mussels in wine sauce. We usually get the fish and chips and mussels from the regular menu, so we had a feeling these would be the winners and they were. I'd 100% recommend both plates. We ended up ordering two rounds of fish sliders so that should say it all! :) The Brussels sprouts were roasted and simply prepared, which I really appreciated. I'm honestly over seeing fried Brussels on every menu, they're rarely that good and oily. If I could tweak anything, I'd add a sauce or drizzle for a little extra dimension, maybe balsamic or a sweet chili dip. Still, I'd absolutely order them again; they make for a great, lighter snack or side. The pretzel was pretty standard, but I liked that it didn't come salted since the cheese sauce has plenty of seasoning. It came out piping hot and stayed that way until the very last bite.  The crab bites were just okay for me. The sauce they come with is tasty, but I wish there was a little more flavor mixed into the crab itself, maybe some onions, peppers or herbs. However, they're not bad at all; they're full of crab meat and overall really solid. If you prefer a simpler flavor profile, you'll probably love them, especially with a squeeze of fresh lemon. We genuinely love Dakota's, and we'll keep coming back to enjoy the views and the great service. It's been nice seeing them evolve into a true neighborhood staple with all the events they've been hosting. Right now they're even running a toy drive, and they have toys available on site that you can purchase and drop directly into the donation box. Such a clever and thoughtful touch.  It's also worth mentioning that they're in full holiday mode right now, with decorations throughout the space. Whether you just want to soak up the festive atmosphere or snap a cute picture by the tree, they've got you covered. read more

Living in the area my family and I like to try a new restaurant every now and then. We went to Dakota's on the Cove which is in our neighborhood. The restaurant was clean, modern and trendy. The views are beautiful on a sunny day and the skylights in the ceiling allow for a lot of natural light. The service was amazing. All of the servers were very attentive. We ordered the coconut shrimp for an appetizer. I ordered the shrimp scampi and my husband had the salmon. I found my food to be a bit on the bland side. Also, my preference for shrimp on my plate would be with the tails off. My husband said the salmon was okay but the vegetables were excellent. We might give it another try and eat different menu items next time. read more

This was our third time coming to Dakota's on the Cove and it just keeps getting better. The food was excellent as always! The coconut shrimp was the star of the night, crispy and packed with flavor. I really enjoy the ambiance and location of Dakota's On The Cove--it's a nicely renovated transformation from what used to be the old Ice House restaurant. Whether you sit inside or outside, you still get a beautiful view of the bridge, which adds a nice touch to the dining experience. The service is good, attentive and welcoming, but I found that some of the dishes lacked flavor, especially for the price point. Speaking of which, some menu items do feel a bit overpriced for what you get. That said, the overall experience was pleasant, and I'd consider coming back, maybe to try the burger next time and see if it changes my impression. Think Hamptonesque in Throggs Neck. The bright esthetics is inviting with large windows showcasing the Marina and our Throggs Neck Bridge. Thumb's up to the designers. Ethan, our server, deserves a mention as he did all possible to bring out his hospitable charm. He represented the restaurant well and took our orders of... Shrimp Cocktail. Four fresh, yet very small shrimp. Quite steep at $18.00. I would expect a larger serving or Jumbo Shrimp to validate the price. Seared Tuna Stack. $18.00. Satisfying portion of tuna slices, towered between lightly dressed frisée salad, diced avocado, cherry tomatoes and strips of a unique take on tortillas. Tasty. Crab Cakes. $27.00. Two cakes filled with crab and less filling. Decent portion. Enough so that I took half my order home. Fish Tacos. $21.00. Three soft tacos. Satisfying. The small piece of unidentified fish I tasted was enjoyable. Despite a few misses I have no doubts Dakota's will be successful. UPDATE: Paid them a visit again, as we love the ambiance, views and the approachable staff. This time we sat at the relatively cozy bar. Our beverages were as we expected, enjoyable. Today the Mr. and I decided to visit Dakota's on the Cove for lunch. When you first walk in, the decor was absolutely beautiful. It was bright and open. The customer service was amazing as well from the owner Raul and our waitress Emily. I have a food allergy and Emily immediately rectified the situation. I ordered the Schmitty Seafood Pasta which includes shrimp and crabmeat ....it deserves a chief's kiss! It was flavorful with the sauce and season. The Mr. ordered the Shrimp Scampi which was also delicious. If you ordered the white sangria, just be warned it will sneak up on you but it is worth it! The only reason why I gave 4-Stars instead of 5 because of the appetizers. We wasn't impressed with the calamari, to us it tasted like it was from the frozen box. Also the chicken tenders were ok but the homemade honey mustard saved it. The Mr. and I will definitely go back, we had a great time and the food/drinks were great. read more

Went here for the 1st time with my family on Saturday May 3rd 2025. Duly note that this was a party, and we got the room that was overlooking the water. Outside one can see the Throggs Neck Bridge, the water, and boats around- like it was a marina. Small, but very beautiful. There was even tables outside that we sat at. There was also a preset menu of appetizers like fried mosserella, traditional buffalo wings, and fried calamari; Caescar salad, Penne ala vodka, and Chicken and salmon. Drinks were also very good, as i got a titos with sprite- twice, and a shirley temple. Server did a great job bringing us the food, and checking on refills. Also, like that the food for the party was served buffet style on the tables, so one can take as little or plenty as one wants! I enjoyed their Salmon, Penne, Fried Moserella, and Fried Calamari. All of that food was tender, and enjoyable! Also went to the restroom, be forewarned the restrooms are a single stall, but there is one in the back and in the front of the restaurant. Went in both and they both were clean. Would definitely come back to try something off their regular menu if I am ever in the area! read more

What a gem!! Best new restaurant I've been to in years. Bright & beautifully decorated, with very comfortable velvet chairs & spacious seating. You'll want to sit for awhile in those chairs because the water view is gorgeous, the food is wonderful, & the staff makes you feel welcome and appreciated. Autumn was the server for our table of 11 people & she was professional, charming, and fun! Raul (one of the owners) was compassionate & accommodating as we settled my elderly parents at the table, one of whom is in a wheelchair. He couldn't have been nicer about it. The varied menu fits the seaside vibe, with several good fish & seafood dishes (try the mussels!) along with other yummy & nicely presented entrees like beet salad & fried chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo. Honestly this place hits all the markers of a wonderful restaurant. It's a new favorite for all of us who had lunch there today. Go! You'll be delighted. read more

It was my first time at this restaurant. Decided to go on this 4th of July because it had some good reviews. To my surprise, I was very disappointed with their food. The service was great, manager Raul was very attentive as well as the waitress. They were very kind and friendly and professional. The food itself was not the best, the linguine and crusted chicken was not cooked properly, and very little taste and linguine was a little dry. The Manhattan clam chowder was not really a Manhattan Clam chowder you can tell by the picture I have posted, was very watery. The fried calamari was ok not the best, I have had better. The Mussels Marinara, was the best of the entire food we had. For someone who travels a lot and eats and reviews many restaurants, I was disappointed in their food, The place is very clean beautiful. I met the owners who were very friendly and welcome myself to their restaurant. As a business owner myself I value the hospitality and respect and caring, they had this. I think they need a chef with more experience because one plate, I had to return and the plate replaced was still not the best. If I didn't know better I would think they knocked the whole building down. Series is outstanding! Everyone is so friendly. Their manager comes over and checks on the tables too.
