It's been a loooong time since I last visited, but now that I live about a mile away, I figured, why not give it another shot? Well... let's just say this is a tale of two experiences: the food? A solid 5 stars. Everything else? More like 1. So I'm meeting in the middle with 3. We walked into what I think was organized chaos. People were everywhere, but oddly... no one was sitting. Empty tables, no host in sight, and definitely no one greeting us with a warm "Hey, welcome in!" One of the guys at the bar casually told us to sit wherever. So we did. Eventually someone noticed us. The vibe? Loud, kind of messy, and definitely not what you'd call cozy. We ordered quickly, thinking we were being proactive. But drinks took a while, and the appetizer took about 30 minutes--which really set the tone for the 45-minute wait that followed for our shared entree. Apparently, it was "kids night," but I didn't see a single child. Also, the bathroom? Let's just say in gas station style clean. BUT--and this is a big but--the food was excellent. Big portions, full of flavor, and even better as leftovers the next day. So the kitchen is clearly doing something right. Unfortunately, the overall vibe just isn't my cup of tea. I like to unwind with a good meal and a cocktail--not feel like I'm in a live-action game of restaurant hide-and-seek. There are other spots nearby that check more boxes for me, so for now, this place is going on the back burner. Maybe we'll give it another go someday. When kids night includes actual kids. read more

I went to Burke's to go watch a UFC fight with my partner. I just assumed it was your usual neighborhood bar. However, the place is so big and their menu is so versatile that you'll be able to find something you like. We got the shepherd's pie and some appetizers and everything was so delicious. Our waitress was extremely friendly and so sweet. I've been meaning to go back to Burke's for the past few months and definitely can't wait because even though it looks like your usual Irish pub, inside it is much more homey. read more

In a time of the Coronavirus, Burke's is only operating for take out. And in a time of supporting small, non-franchise businesses, I went for it. I sure did. Yes- I thought long and hard about take out- but hubs and I had been doing so for about a week. Plus, since we'd finished helping mutual friends of ours in the area with some groceries...why not? Burke's got a real cool edge and looks like it's a popular spot located off the Bronx River Pkwy in Yonkers with an in-your-face Irish feel. As far as dramatic entrances go, Burke's makes quite an impression. As such, the red loud exterior, is probably enough to draw anybody in. There's an immense bar, lots of black woods and a showy sky-high, wrought iron staircase. The space is big. Period. This place has the standard pub grub fare. Decided with burgers and by the way- I like Burke's non-meat burger option. I seriously don't know what's good in their menu, but my portobello burger was a nice curveball and added lett.+toma.+ oni. to it on the softest and freshest Brioche bun while hubs enjoyed his Medium-prepped burger with Bleu Cheese crumbles on an English Muffin. Regular Fries? I actually loved the crispy outside better than my Sweet Potato ones. I'm not sure how much Guinness these folks get to pour or rather- have poured but it seems they got their beer situation down. The owner was pleasant when I picked up and thanked me for stopping by. We had a birthday party for our toddler today. The staff is UNREAL!! Roz could not have been any more helpful! She helped organize, set up and worked the party. She even had a fantastic magician to suggest. I've only been here a few times, usually impromptu meet up with my friends which more times than not, end up as some of the most epic nights. I like this bar, especially for after work happy hour sessions. Their food is pretty good and their specials are worth it. Drinks are always strong and cheap during HH and best yet, the staff is friendly. I've had their wings and their burger is OK. The last time I went we all shared some nachos which weren't half bad. Burke's is a great neighborhood bar and we really should go more often. Its never been terribly busy where we can't find a chair but it also has never been dead where you feel like it's the apocalypse; it's a happy medium. read more

There are slightly bigger tables in there, but not a great layout if you have more than 10 in your party. I had a pumpkin ale that didn't really deliver what I thought it would be. The beer menu could use a little bit of an explanation. Most of us ordered burgers, which were quite large. You customize the toppings and the sauces. I felt the burger sizes were too big to really enjoy all of the toppings you could get. The patty was cooked medium rare as I ordered, but the texture and flavor was unremarkable. The vegetables didn't really look or taste that fresh. I felt sick after eating here. I went here yesterday to watch the football game and try their food that I see on social media and how much they brag on how good . I live down the block aha never been to this establishment I can say is very spacious clean and the staff seemed nice and friendly. The drinks were good. The wings were delish. Now came dinner we both ordered burgers. My partnered ordered a Turkey burger which was dry and I ordered their Mac and cheese burger . My burger was dry which I asked medium. was well done the outside of it was burnt I really was looking forward on a nice juicy burger I didn't want to complain so I just ate what I could and we left. Burkes has been under new management for a few months now and all I can say is that I am highly disappointed with the changes. From removing the table cloths and down sizing all of the water/soda cups to changing out the steak fries!!!!!! We used to love burkes for their chicken sandwich and basically everything on the menu, but tonight the fish n chips were different and the replacement fries were pitiful! We are on first name basis with the staff at this point and it's a go to for us and all of our friends! We went for brunch on a Sunday mid day with a group of ten. I was a little worried when we walked in since the entire place was empty. The decor was your typical sports bar. Plenty of TVs around the walls and the waitress was willing to change channels for us. Definitely would be a cool place to watch football on Sundays. We sat at a high top table that had a keg in the middle. Unfortunately we learned you need to pre order the keg in order to use it and it's $10/person/hour to use. You get to drink as much as you like. We ordered the bottomless drinks which included unlimited mimosas, bloody Mary's, or cans of PBR. $15 for two hours. I ordered the pancakes with banana and strawberries. It came with two large pancakes two pieces of bacon and two pieces of sausage. My boyfriend for chicken and waffles with the chipotle syrup which he said was not too spicy. I tried the fried chicken and it was good! Our waitress was mediocre. She gave us attitude at some points during our meal which confused me since it was not busy at all. We may have been a little needy being a group of 10, but we didn't deserve attitude. She was attentive at the beginning but once we got our meals she wanted nothing to do with us. It was difficult to find her to get drink refills once our meal came. After finally finding her, she said she had to cut us off since our two hours were up. We were not happy! I may come back to try this place during football season when it's probably busier but I'm not about to run back. read more

I put 5 stars because I know Burke's has amazing food, super friendly waitress we had, atmosphere was great. Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. I did order the fish as it's my favorite dish thus far, but tonight it was absolutely disgusting. Maybe that's too harsh but I felt like I had cod fillet in a popover. Super soggy, dense, lackluster flavor. I'm not a salt person but that's what I used to be able to eat it. Malt vinegar is what I normally use but since the batter was so soggy I didn't bother. The waitress was very honest and agreed the fish shouldn't have been cooked like that. It's not the waitress' fault for how food is cooked. Vanessa (our waitress) is a lovely young lady and I think she should be acknowledged for having to hear people complain about their meal. We of course DID NOT yell at her or berate her and restaurant. Different chefs/cooks obviously don't cook the same. I am not one to write a bad review. I really enjoy trying new places and writing a GOOD review. Unfortunately I have absolutely nothing positive to say about my experience here. We waited 15 minutes just for someone to greet us at our table. There were only 2 other occupied tables in the entire restaurant. Once we finally had the opportunity to order our food took 40 minutes! In an almost completely empty restaurant I don't understand why it should take so incredibly long. Once the food came it was more disappointment. No one checked on us. The food that was supposed to be hot was not and the food that should have been chilled was warm and soggy. Super unappetizing. Below is what we ordered to give you a better idea: We started out with fried pickles for the table. They on their own took a half hour AFTER the waiter brought out nachos we didn't order. It was clear that our server had put the wrong food in for us since there was essentially no one else there. They were unlike any fried pickles I've had before and I truly do not mean that in a good way. The pickles inside were clear and resembled onions more than pickles. There was hardly any flavor and the little flavor there was was not really what you'd expect from pickles. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. There was ONE tiny piece of chicken on only one segment of the entire quesadilla. It was barely warm and the cheese had hardened. My friend ordered a chicken Caesar wrap. The lettuce was warm and wilted. There was once again, hardly a shred of chicken in a primarily chicken dish and it just overall tasted awful. It was soggy and gross. My other friend ordered the Italian chicken panini which, can you guess it? HAD NO CHICKEN. It also was supposed to have a pesto aioli which it didn't. Once he asked for a side of it and waited another 10 minutes for the tiniest portion, it wasn't even pesto aioli but something else tasting of detergent. My boyfriend ordered a "special" steak Reuben. The steak looked gray and scary and was so dry and burnt to a crisp on the outside. The bread was all broken apart upon its arrival and looked like someone had smashed the sandwich with their fist before serving it to our table. Overall, I would not ever recommend this establishment to anyone. I would rather eat a quarter pounder off the floor of McDonalds. The service was inattentive, lacking personality and any sense of urgency. The food in every single way was disappointing and left a lot to be desired.
