[Selection]: Very organized shop as pens are ordered by rainbow color. The shop sells a decent selection of Valentine's Day cards. The staff was friendly and even asked customers on what they were looking for. In addition to greeting cards and stationery, they also have candles, tote bags, etc. The shop also offers gift wrapping service and apparently they even sell red rose bouquets during Valentine week. [Gift wrapping service]: The service is only available at brick & mortar locations. Materials are purchased separately and holiday rush fees may be applied. The shop offers complimentary gift wrap on all in-store purchases (customer's choice of kraft box or kraft wrap with twine). This is such a charming little store. It is filled with cute paper products that I absolutely loved. I love the wall of shelves that were color coated with different products. The staff members were friendly and helpful. He picked up a few cute sticker labels while I was in there, and if I am ever in that area again, I will definitely be back. read more

I loooove a good small business that gift wraps!! I had two friend birthdays to shop for and I found everything I needed plus more. I got some chocolate bars based on my friend's personalities and a candle in a scent named after a vacation place one of them wanted to travel to. They'll gift wrap for free with kraft paper and you even have the option to choose premium wrapping for a small additional fee. As someone that is awful at wrapping gifts, this perk was amazing for the price and I always opt-in if it's available. All my interactions from entering, to checking out, to picking up were phenomenal!! The shop attendants greeted me and my husband warmly upon entering and their hospitality also trickled into their text messages when they were keeping me up-to-date on my wrapping order. Do note that when they are backed up with gift wrapping, they might have you come back at a later time if there's a queue! This is an excellent problem because there are so many shops to duck in and out of nearby. I ended up running other errands outside of the area and coming back before closing on my way to my friends' parties. Service: The service was fantastic. Salesperson was knowledgeable about the products and offered suggestions. She also gift wrapped the item like a boss! Selection: The shop could offer slightly more selection of writing instruments and more, however, I had no trouble finding a lovely gift from the selection they offered. This is a small location and the selection fits the space. Crowded, overstocked shops are no fun. All items were displayed neat and tidy which made it easy to appreciate each item. I'm a sucker for good stationery (maybe because I have the soul of a widowed Victorian who lives in a remote mansion), so I was initially sad when I saw the Echo Park Social Type location was closed. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see this store pop up in Atwater Village. This is a beautiful friendly stationery store, with a well-designed, cozy, and inviting shop that is well-suited for browsing. I've found the service to be consistently friendly, and I've bought some great cards for friends and family. This store is small, well curated and arranged. They've got a ton of cards, notebooks, writing utensils all arranged by color - which, if you're like me, is a very satisfying space to be in. What struck me the most though, was the guy behind the register was kind and welcoming. He greeted all of us when we walked in. He noticed my kid and showed him some cool chalk that looked like french fries. If you need to find a quick gift and are willing to spend a bit for quality, trend, or cuteness, this would be a place to visit. A friend of mine told me about this place and they have really cute stuff that you could find when you need a last minute gift idea. On the flip side, you can't get more hipster and "Silverlake" than this place. You'll see from their collection, the music they play, and the other characters that come in and out of their doors. If you're pro-hipster or live in the area, this may just be what you're used to. If you're not, then get ready to be amused by simple pleasures :) I bought my friend a box of tea from here, gift cards...they have scented lotions, journals, and other trinkets like this. It's a very clean store and everything is arranged nicely. I think I may come by this store again. Street parking only so you may do some driving until you secure a spot. Some claim that millennials have killed off a lot of things, but The Social Type is proof that the greeting card is not one of them. Think of this place as a Hallmark store that a person under 30 might actually be interested in entering. The interior is spaced out and minimalist, and the products themselves have been carefully curated with a quality-over-quantity approach. I appreciated how straightforward it was figuring out if they had something suitable for me...perusing both walls and the central tables shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes. The cards are: aesthetically pleasing, sometimes sarcastic or raunchy but never cheesy, noticeably well-made, expensive. In addition to cards for certain occasions, they have packs of plain cards + envelopes, notebooks, and other paper goods. This place is great! I came here to have a present gift wrapped as I am completely helpless at doing it myself. Laura was extremely helpful and was able to get the whole thing done in about 10 minutes, despite having a number of other customers to assist at the same time. Ultimately, it's your call whether it's worth the cost (probably $15-20 for a small/medium sized gift wrapped), but in my case, I'd definitely consider it worth it and will be coming back soon! read more

I love gift stores but this one has to be on the top of my list- it could be because it is in the neighborhood but STILL! It is nestled right on sunset and you couldn't miss it if you tried because the building is bright pink! It is put together and merchandised to suit your favorite colors and needs. I could spend a solid hour or two looking at all the beautiful stationary, gifts, cards, etc they have. I came to this store after a yelp event where we learned to do the old fashioned wax and seal for cards. It was so much fun and that it was just the coolest I had to come back to get one for myself. Really pretty stuff at this place! It was a nice surprise to find this place in the neighborhood. I feel like stationary stores were kinda dead for awhile, especially since we went full digital in the early 2000's. So I'm really glad that there is a place like this where you can physically browse for gift ideas, and maybe get inspired for your own creative endeavors. My obsession is stationery shops as of late. I love them so much because they have such cute items local to the area. I love this shop, the reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars are based on a feeling and not a performance of an employee or the display in the shop. It is very open and airy, I felt like it was empty and awkwardly walking around. I see in other photos they utilize the space for classes or some events, but I did not see anywhere in the store when the events were. I also wish there were more LA type of cards, prints, and goodies but there was not. However, I will still be visiting and I hope to attend one of the events :D read more

This stationary spot is awesome. They have all kinds of cards. I came in here for a Bridesmaids Proposal card, but didn't see any. So I got a general card that I know my Bridesmaid will like. However they have all kinds of wedding stationary. They have cards for congratulations on engagements, or even before and after the wedding. They have thank you cards, I'm sorry cards, cards for mom and dad, and all varieties. They also have journals and a lot of their combined stationary is color coordinated which is cool. The only reason for my four stars is that it is pretty pricey. So the stationary is VERY nice, and a higher grade than something you'd get from Walgreens. Great customer service as well. read more

This shop is so beautiful!! Tons of great cards and gifts -- the shop is run by a stationery maker, so they've got a killer greeting card section, full of cards you won't find everywhere. I love that this shop seems to stock tons of cards and items from indie businesses and artist-run card companies. The gifts they stock range from everyday "just because" gifts that you could give to co-workers or friends (notepads, cute office supplies, calendars), to luxe treats that would be appropriate for birthdays or wedding gifts (home goods and barware, fancy candles). Gorgeous gift wrap, including a beautiful display of ribbons, and everything you'd need to wrap a gift to the nines. I have spent quite a bit of money at this store- cards, candles, matches, you name it. Unfortunately being so pricey I am quite upset to have realized that the quality of some of their items (in particular their match boxes) falls short (to say the least!) . Shortly after I discovered this store; being so seduced by the numerous match boxes designs they have I bought about 15 different ones (no joke !). However, to my dismay, they've all been a huge disappointment and waste of money because of the awful strike pad they come with. After only lighting about 5 matches using the strike pad on the box you end up forced to invest in lighters if you want to keep using them. Friends of mine have had the exact same issue so it's not just a "bad batch". It's just terrible quality. And given that the average price for them is around $10.50, it is actually quite scandalous. I was fine with the high price-tag because of how unique their products were. But I expected the quality to go with it- and it did not. Two stars because I still like their postcards. read more

I was basically drawn from the outside, as the lighting, high ceilings and awesome presence draws you to the store. It's a grand place that's easy to spend a ton of time in; impressive to say the least. I went in because I was looking for a gift for my girlfriend with absolutely no idea of what to get her. When I went into the store the first thing I felt was how open, welcoming, and friendly the atmosphere was! I was greeted by two very nice people, Jessica and Allison. They were open to help, but not pushy at all. They seemed so friendly and I needed some serious help. They took the time with me to ask me questions and find out what might be the perfect gift for my girlfriend. After spending more time there, you begin to see the nuanced qualities of the letterpress cards, the intrinsic beauty of quality paper, well crafted die-cut edged notecards... In other words, many items in the store reflect a discrete, more mindful lifestyle. Super nice personnel. I hope more people take the time to shop here and try integrating quality (non-electronic) communication amongst their family and friends like handwritten notes. It has an impact.
