What a treat! We loved this spot so much that we visited twice during our couple day visit to the area. Tucked I a cozy house, the Sow's Ear is part coffee shop part knitting craft store. They offer a variety of knitting classes and community offerings under this roof. It was bustling with warm energy during both of my visits. They sell baked goods form Madison Sourdough Company, a variety of coffee and tea drinks along with a few gift items like jams, coffee beans, and earrings. We ordered the protein oatmeal topped with walnuts and pumpkin seeds (twice since it was so good- and healthy) and the toast with rhubarb jam. On one of the visits they were willing to make cinnamon toast for my sister who was sick at the hotel with the flu. A family comfort food. There are way too many affordable and cute places nearby to give the eatery another go. The prices are steep, especially for what you get. I ordered the brocolli cheese quiche, which literally had no cheese! The salad was ok, not very substantial -- it was only greens and no veggies. My sister ordered a sandwich and chips, which looked like less than a half order from Panera for double the price. Hockey has taken us to Verona two weekends in a row and made sure to stop at The Sow's Ear both times--what a great place! The atmosphere is eclectic and artsy, the perfect coffee shop vibe. I also love that they feature works from local artists and offer healthy, unique snacks. The first time, I had an iced vanilla latte, and it was really good. The following weekend, I tried the specials, and I highly recommend both! The pear, peach, and apricot smoothie--absolutely incredible! As a cafe, this shop has great service and great food. Love their charity drinks each month. As a yarn shop, the service has a lot to be desired. They have good yarn and buttons, which is why I have been shopping there, but their service is terrible. I've had my body commented on, I've had rude remarks about my knitting, I have had a lack of help on items, and I've had terrible service at checkout... it feels like they don't want my service. I'm told they do a "private shopper" approach, but each time I'm in the store, the workers engage with other people but do not even acknowledge I'm there. There is one worker there who is great, and if they are in the store, I get the best experience ever, which is why whenever I can, I opt to go in during their shift. read more

A great local coffee shop in Verona. I come here every time I'm in town visiting my son. Coffee is great and so is the food. There are also really good Gluten free options. My daughter has celiac and she has never reacted to the food (no cross contamination). Highly recommend this place if you're in the area. read more

It is a sweet little coffee shop, and obviously well-regarded based on the amount of people populating the outdoor area. There is a parking lot behind the building and street parking also available, and folks put it to use! I ended up opting for a lavender latte and a frosted/decorated cookie. Both were fabulous and truly hit the spot. The experience, the cost, and the quality of the goods were all lovely and I would be a regular here if I lived in the area. I have popped in to The Sow's Ear twice now just recently and what can I say? This place is adorable and I love it! I've ordered French Soda's both times (I'm hooked) while coworkers have tried a few flavors of their smoothies. No food yet, but what I have seen other customers enjoying, and based on what's available in the grab and go section, the food seems to be great here. They have some quiche on the menu I will absolutely be trying soon enough. I'm not a knitter, but they appear to have a nice selection of knitting supplies and yarn throughout available for purchase. Additionally, they have art on the walls and goods/food items for sale from local crafters. Outside is a lovely patio with plenty of seating options if you do order food and want to take a seat. Holy buckets. This place is amazing and, TBH, I'm really jealous of Veronians for having it. First of all, the staff were outstanding - patient, attentive and fun to interact with. The food was terrific - although I had a hard time choosing. I had the Madison Melt - ham and cheese with a lovely bread and butter pickle and maybe mustard? on a delicious baguette, with a pear/peach/aprico lt smoothie. Serious yum. Companions had similar sandwiches and salad - there was nothing in the baskets at the end. One got some kind of coffee (I think?) drink with pistachio and rose - it smelled divine. In the winter, seating space is limited, but it looks as though they have a large outdoor seating area when it's warmer. The cool thing was that we were the only table that didn't have some kind of fiber in our hands - folks were knitting, spinning and just generally giving off a cool, creative vibe. The yarn part of the store in back is packed with gorgeous yarns and all kinds of knitting/crochet etc. supplies. It was really hard to resist - next time I might not try so hard! What a nice spot for a coffee meet up with a friend! There is 2 hour street parking on the side of the building or a public parking lot behind the building. The coffee shop is in the front of the building and a knitter's paradise shop is in the space in the back. There are different types of sitting spots for your choice. Tables inside, comfy chairs and couches. Outdoor seating. My friend and I were having a spot of lunch while we were there. We ordered the Caprese sandwich (fresh mozzarella, tomato, balsamic vinegar, and a basil pesto on French baguette) and the Savory Sow (Brie, roasted red peppers, and balsamic vinaigrette toasted on a French baguette). Both cheese sandwiches were so good. Fresh and tasty! The sandwiches come with choice of chips or fresh greens dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette with a subtle taste of lemon. I also had a mocha to drink. Really it was a very well balance cup of yummy coffee and chocolate flavor. The Sow's Ear is a cute little cafe/knitting shop located inside a house-themed that gives it a nice home feeling. The food was reasonably priced and my boyfriend tipped $5 in the tip jar at the counter in support of good local business. We ordered a grilled cheese meal with chips, a bowl of the daily soup of tomato and roasted bell peppers, and a fruit and nut salad. However, the food we ordered was slightly underwhelming. The grilled cheese was too crusty, over cooked and tough to eat. Although, dipped inside the soup, it tasted a little better since the soup softened the bread and made it more edible. The fruit and nut salad was a bit simple and wasn't satisfying. We also ordered two drinks: iced latte and iced chai latte. Both was a little heavy on the milk but we were able to finish it since an iced drink is always nice on a hot sunny day! Overall, it was a nice brunch meal and the atmosphere is catered towards knitters who are there to enjoy a simple meal or cafe drink while knitting. I "discovered" the Sow's Ear when it was just a yarn shop. There's a funny thing about yarn shops: their owners seem to often be a little on the grouchy side. The Sow's Ear is the exception that proves the rule. I've bought yarn all over the USA. The Sow's Ear is my favorite by far. The staff could not be more helpful. They are knowledgeable about knitting and they seem to keep a catalogue of Ravelry patterns in their heads! The yarn selection is broad and of very high quality. You don't by yarn by the pound here! If you're looking for junk yarn get yourself to one of the big box craft stores. The yarn at Ravelry is beautiful and often it's hand-dyed. Yes, the yarn is more expensive, but you won't end up with a beautifully knitted sweater that pills all over after you wash it the first time. Everything about TSE's is beautiful! read more

It's a cute little store that combines coffee shop/cafe with knitting supplies. Harvest Latte was exactly what I was hoping for on a beautiful Sunday that made me excited for fall. The breakfast menu left a little to be desired. Basically an assortment of quiches, yogurt, or oatmeal were the choices. We had the Tomato Basil and Cauliflower bacon quiche. Both were very well made and actually just filling enough for a good breakfast. Still wish they had a breakfast sandwich or two on the menu, for variety. I thought parking was going to be a pain because the few times that I've driven by, it looked like there was only street parking available, but it was actually a breeze. There is a tiny parking lot in the back, and since the area around the cafe is mostly residential, there is a lot of street side parking to be found. (: Awesome. I ordered a 12 oz mocha and a sweet potato, shiitake, and provolone quiche. The mocha is a little too foamy for my taste, but it's strong and the perfect wake-me-up. The quiche was light but filling, which I really appreciated. I'm not a huge breakfast foods fanatic, and I hate really heavy breakfasts that weigh me down for the rest of the day, so I thought the quiche was a perfect compromise. Serving the quiche with a side of greens is a nice touch too, though I'm not a big fan of the salad dressing. Free wifi is a plus, as is the availability of outlets near every table. I felt quite a bit out of place with the rest of the clientele, but I can see why many people enjoy spending a Sunday afternoon here. Yarn: I been meaning to explore the Sow's Ear on my last trip to Verona and am quite happy to have gotten the chance to pick up some luxurious and decently priced Vintage DK yarns. Goodies: They have mugs and other items for sale. Purchased two (green glazed and blue glazed) mugs for future sipping and knitting. Food: Yummy warm apple cider. Soups are ok - should have gotten the quiche which was recommended. They have this cool machine in the back which rolls your yarn into a ball for you. They even show you and let you do it yourself if you ask nicely :) Great local shop and would gladly buy more goods here again soon. read more
