My mom and I came here this last week for massages. What a treat! The staff really goes above and beyond to ensure each guests feels special and catered too. I had my massage with Amy, and she was fantastic! The amenities that comes with the spa are so relaxing to use before or after your treatment too! I was told ahead of time, that the hot tub and sauna in the spa was temporarily unavailable at the time of my treatment but i was welcome to use the club house women's locker room amenities. It's not too far and a staff member actually walked us to the parking lot and showed us where to go. This will definitely be something we do on a regular basis for a girls day. read more

I used to come here, when it was a Fairmont property. Once the pandemic was over, it seems that neither the hotel, restaurant OR spa (which I've been informed, quite rudely over a phone call w a staff member) is no longer associated whatsoever, with the hotel), and has completely fallen off the cliff, of which this poor excuse for a hotel sits upon. Please take a look at The Park Hotel in Lafayette. They seem to provide luxury, and not completely turn off your their customers with rudeness and No service. In fact, The Park Hotel now after their renovations, reminds me of "The Plaza" in NYC, and gives those same bougie vibes. read more

These three combos definitely take my stress away. If you are not a hotel guest, you can still book a treatment, and you will receive complimentary Club access. That's the hotels fitness center. Nowadays, we have so much stress in our lives, we need to take care of ourselves. And, if you mention it's your birthday, or special occasion, or just here to relax, you will be served a complimentary Champagne. I have been visiting the Claremont Hotel and Spa for the past 30 years. The spa has always been where we go for special occasions, or just to relax. I went yesterday and, while I had an excellent massage from my therapist, I was disappointed to find that the whirlpool is still closed (after about two years!?) The staff offers to allow us to walk across the parking lot to the gym and use the whirlpool/facilities there, but I didn't expect to go there, so I had no workout clothes, and who wants to re-dress after their massage -- or walk outside in their robe and slippers -- to use the other facilities? Moreover, the ridiculous AI parking system (Metropolitan Parking) is currently refusing to honor my validation, and I am disputing the charge for the four-hours of parking I was supposed to receive, having used the QR Code at the check-in desk. (PLEASE dump this AI parking system and, at minimum, bring back the machines!) If you could only make one improvement, couldn't it have been the whirlpool and not this parking bot? I am happy with the massage, but very disappointed in the hotel/spa services. read more

Booked a treatment for my wife, myself and my mom as part of our stay at the Claremont. We were able to use the lounge to relax after our wonderful treatments which was a nice perk for groups that were mixed. This used to be my special place- when I had a bad day or something to celebrate or my annual birthday trip. I have been a loyal client for almost two decades. it's....ok now. The massage I had today was exceptional. the facial? adequate. and the roman spa seems to never be reopening. I used to come here and pay the premium for the wrap around experience- roman spa, deluge shower, steam room, and service. Makes it worthwhile. Now, only the steam room is open. Locked door to the roman spa. No talking points from anyone about the situation- it's like there is hope no one remembers it was better before. If i wanted to, I could get redressed and walk to the gym to use the hot tub there, but that's not very relaxing and then you add that only 4 hours are comped for parking and you just throw up barriers to staying. This used to be a truly special place. Now- I say go ahead and enjoy a service every once in a while but this is not the top place around and it still charges top level prices. I took myself for Valentines for a deep tissue massage. My massage therapist was very nice and I fell asleep during my massage. The spa grounds were a tad inconvenient in the pouring rain. The spa facility is outside the hotel and across the street. The spa facility consisted of steam, sauna and jacuzzi. The facility was pretty basic. I had dinner here as well and just a steak is over 200. The food was good although my steak is better :) read more

I was so looking forward to my last visit to the spa I've been coming here since the 90's but haven't been here since pre pandemic. I came with some friends to celebrate a work anniversary and was very disappointed that the large Jacuzzi overlooking the bay as well cold deluge bath were not available , two of the main reasons for coming here instead of driving to Calistoga or Sonoma . There is a Smaller Jacuzzi available in the fitness center that you can walk to down a flight of stairs then outside ( in your bathrobe) past the tennis courts to the fitness center, it's not a vibe . While the massage was great, with what you pay I expect amenities and will certainly consider this before coming back . I was also told by more than one spa attendant that the jacuzzi has been closed over a year and since the "New company " took over it didn't look like the were going to re open it . All that is available on the spa area is the steam room otherwise you have to walk over to the fitness area which is separate. I had a 4pm massage today with Lauren. This was one of the worst "deep tissue" massages I have ever experienced. My 50 minute massage was actually about 40-45 minutes long. She initially asked me if there were any particular areas I wanted her to know about. I let her know I wanted my lower back on the left side worked on as and also my upper shoulders/neck. She did not spend anymore time there than she did on my legs. The massage was so UNGENEROUS. I asked if she could apply a bit deeper pressure thinking maybe she would hit the right spots - NOPE. She did not seem to know where any pressure points or tissue muscles were located. Her breath smelled like food. When the massage was over, I found out because she threw the heavy robe on top of my chest and told me to get dressed and she'll meet me outside. What?? Is this common practice? That's how people know the massage is done? I came here today to start my birthday weekend. I live locally and decided to treat myself. This was the WORST massage experience and yet the MOST expensive massage I've had... and with an automatically charged 20% gratuity. FOR WHAT? I paid $234 in total. BUYER BEWARE! The staff has always been courteous and professional from the wait time in the lounge where a number of treats like fruit and tea are provided to the top-rate massages and facials I have received. The hotel and Spa have gone through so many management changes that many of the good employees at the spa have left, and those that remain are not very good at their jobs. The spa is outdated and old and needs a refresh. The facilities are falling apart and the services are very expensive for what you get. I thought I had booked the Claremont in Berkeley but instead I apparently booked The Claremont Spa inMaine!!! There are THREE Claremont Spas; one in Berkeley, one in Maine and one in Claremont Ca! I paid over $200 to the Maine spa (who would not credit me back my money despite the geographic mistake)-then I arrived in Berkeley and of course they had no record of my appointment-not their bad but mine. They were very polite and felt bad that this had happened to me but of course it was my fault alone. The Claremont spa is my birthday treat to myself every year. It is a beautiful spit and the women's spa features an incredible hot tub, a luxurious rain shower, a steam room, and several very nice showers, all with quality bath and body products. Sadly this year the hot tub, the rain shower, and several of the showers are all "out of service at this time". Spa service does include use of the fitness club and I'm told there is a hot tub in the women's locker room there, but walking out to the club just doesn't fit the usual relaxed, luxurious experience. I'm sure these are temporary outages, but you may want to check the status before booking. Frankly paying $204 for a 50 minute massage PLUS 20% automatic gratuity in a mediocre spa setting is not something I'll be doing again. Claremont, I hope you fix this ASAP. read more

This spa is totally run down and charges more for less. I have been a customer there for 20 years and that's my last. The jacuzzi has not been working for at least 2 years (how hard is it to fix?). Last time I was there in April there was only 1 shower working. In April, I paid $265 for a hydro facial now charged $323! The waiting room was noisy with women on their phones. No spa water with cucumber or whatever. No nice eucalyptus or other soothing fragrance in the spa area. No nice amenities like soap or body lotion. I contacted the spa manager and got a generic answer. Avoid at all cost. International Orange in Marin is the place to go. read more

Came here for a girl's spa day with family. 19% gratuity and service fee is added to your services, so at minimum expect to pay around $206- for a visit including massage or facial. I will be honest -- it's hard for me to pay that much for a single massage. I usually pay my regular massage therapist (a licensed medical masseuse) about $200 for three hours of massage, which is usually split up to three 60-minute sessions. The minimum-priced massages at The Fairmont Spa are 50 minutes. But, they do include access to their spa facilities: showers, a Eucalyptus steam room, whirlpool tub, and deluge shower. First, I'll review the massage. I opted for a deep tissue massage. It was okay. My regular massage therapist is able to apply much more pressure to areas where I hold a lot of muscle tension and have some pain/problems. I have also seen a massage therapist at another facility that was able to apply very firm pressure, which I prefer. I informed my massage provider at The Fairmont that I prefer and could handle firm pressure. It was just OKAY, and she was only able to provide firm pressure for a few minutes of my massage. Later when I got home, I found I had three bruises about the size of fingers on various parts of my legs and back. I was satisfied with some of the stretching she provided though. Second, I'll review the showers. One of the showers was completely closed as it was in need of repairs. I stepped into three other showers and found them inconsistent. Some of the handles didn't seem to do anything, so I think they were broken. Some shower heads seemed clogged, so water wouldn't really come out. No temperature controls, so sometimes the water was cold, sometimes lukewarm, sometimes hot. I was very confused. The whirlpool tub is nice, as is the eucalyptus steam room. They're small though so depending how busy they are, it might feel a little crowded. The wait room is nice. They serve cucumber water, hot water and tea bags, and some very light snacks (dried apricots and raisins). Third, I'll review the customer service. This is where they do excel, as everyone was very friendly and helpful, including the person who helped us book the services for our whole group. Overall as a group, we enjoyed our time at the spa. Personally, I probably would not visit again though and will opt for spa and massage services elsewhere. read more

Disappointed. Read online this was one of the premier spas in the Bay Area in recent years but it definitely didn't know present that way. Upon arrival, I couldn't even figure out how to get inside the building. Very confusing and poor signage. After entering spa I was walked to the locker area and then just left. No one showed me around the facility. Some of the bathrooms/showers seemed to be under construction. Let's just say the facility seemed old/outdated. Very bare minimum with the spa amenities. No scent to the steam room, no fruit in the water, one flavor of tea (Earl Grey), no other snacks. Massage itself was probably a 3.8/5, but they need to work on upgrading their facilities. read more

1000% the worst Spa experience I have ever had. It was noisy everywhere we went, couldn't find any quiet spaces to truly relax. My 50 min massage started 10 min late but ended right on time. My friends massage lady kept asking her if she could take water breaks throughout her massage. I spent Mother's Day weekend at the Fairmont this year, and it was terrific! I used to visit the Claremont in the pass quite frequently, but I have not been since The Fairmont took over! I certainly appreciate the upgrades and facelift that the Fairmont incorporated. The outside of the building could use a major facelift, also the interior hallways leading to the thirst rooms, but overall the Fairmont has done a great job. I enjoyed the amenities offered at the property, as well as dined in the lounge. We had a few drinks and small bites and I met two other women spending their Mother's Day weekend at the Fairmont. We were still charged full price and "compensated" by being asked to walk across a parking lot to the club to access showers, steam room and sauna. The massage itself was mediocre at best. the men's waiting room was cold with no amenities. massage room was cold. Overall probably one of the worst "high end" spas I have been to. We wrote an email to the Claremont spa staff to see what they would do for us and got no response after two days. My wife said her side at least had showers working and a steam room. My massage with Jamie was wonderful - one of my best in years. My less than stellar review is for the women's spa facilities, which haven't been updated for at least 20 years and are showing their age. Examples from my last visit: rust in grouting, showers with broken handles and water that takes minutes to heat up, a bath and shower area that has been capped and is just taking up space, etc. I wish the hotel had used some of the time the spa was closed over the last two years to at least make cosmetic upgrades if not a full remodel. read more

This was the worst massage I've ever gotten. She kept popping one of my shoulder muscles over the bone, and now it feels swollen and injured. She also tried to bend one of my elbows backwards, which was painful so I had to jerk my arm away to make her stop doing it. A massage therapist should at least know basic anatomy. I will not be coming here again for massages, and may only get massages from those licensed to practice in medical clinics to avoid injury. read more

I felt like I was in a no-frills spa, for a high-end spa price. Even down to the smell, there was nothing aromatic about the place. My massage was lackluster, probably due to the fact that the tip was already included. Please note that head massages are culturally insensitive. Black women do not like their hair touched unless it's getting done. The way she frolicked and picked out my hair I felt like it was more of an act of curiosity instead of her actually trying to soothe and make my head feel at ease. The spa at Claremont is, in a word, fabulous. When I want (need) to relax, this is the place I dream of. While quite expensive, it's still the place I choose to treat myself once or twice a year. After all, I'm worth it. Women's facilities are separate from men's. They have a huge jacuzzi overlooking the bay. Their deluge shower is a great way to relieve tension in shoulders and neck. The other showers have nozzles that spray you from about twelve different angles. Heaven. The shampoo, conditioner, and body soap smell lovely and are high quality. Their robes and flip flops are comfy and clean. The only complaints I have are that the locker areas are a bit cramped and sometimes the shower take a while to warm up. You have to be in the shower to turn it on. The people who work there, from the desk clerks to the masseuses, are always super friendly and welcoming. I don't know if the really remember me every time I come or if it's just their custom to say, "Welcome back" but I sure love it! read more

When I told them I'd requested a woman, they shrugged and said this guy was the only one available. No one was rude but they really couldn't have cared less. The 20% gratuity is included in the price so the people working there have no incentive to provide decent service. To my amazement the showers didn't have any hot water! None. The attendant said, "Well, this is a 100-year-old building!" Sure but then maybe you shouldn't charge $200 for a 50-minute massage and ice cold shower!! I really want to like this spa, as it's super close to my house and they offer day passes. However, after over 5 visits my issues have been consistent. The Hot tub is always dirty, has floating hair, dirt, hair ties, pubic hair, Etc. Literally every time I visit. Facilities are old But decent, however deluge shower has been out of order for quite some time. I've had 3 massages here and every time it has been about a 5/10. I wish I could give less than a star!!! And really need to have a massage space I schedule some time at the Claremont spa to relax. When I book my appointment I was told to arrive 30 minutes earlier which I did. For 30 minutes past the time of which my service for service was supposed to start, I went to the reception desk to ask when was my service is going to start and what was going on. No one knew what was going on and one of the staff went to try to find out what was going on for me. To come back and tell me that the manager was too busy to come out and see me and that if I want it I can rearrange must get my schedule services which would now put me and our beyond the time I was supposed to be done with my services. This would have totally inconvenienced my day because as I had other appointments scheduled not to mention my time is extremely valuable! I had to ask for the manager to come out who was too busy to come out on her own after it was made known that I have been sitting there waiting for my appointment to start for 30 minutes beyond the start Time. The manager finally comes out to tell me that she was sorry and that she was going to be talking to the massage therapist she wasn't sure what was going on. She asked me if she could adjust my service on the backend and shorten the massage that I had scheduled by combining my 2 services into one. Total lack of professionalism and service. Valued at this Spa. No one suggested that if I wanted to come back another time as I had to leave because I had another set of appointments that they would take care of my services it was just I'll be talking to massage I don't know what happened. All I can say is WOW! I've been fortunate to have received services from many spas over the years. Sometimes when you have services at a hotel spa, they're just 'okay'. Not only were the facilities beautifully appointed, my massage therapist, Amy was phenomenal! My back was a little sore from the night before having attended a concert at the Greek Theater, so I needed some extra attention. Amy did not disappoint! The extra touches during the treatment were nice as well; hot towel on the back after the rub down and a warm blanket wrap. The spa is also equipped with a jacuzzi and whirlpool baths; everything you'd expect at a top-notch spa (robes, sandals, lockers, juice, fruit, water and tea.) My experience at the Spa Claremont exceeded my expectations; I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more
