I wish I could give less than a star!!! And really need to have a massage space I schedule some time at the Claremont spa to relax. When I book my appointment I was told to arrive 30 minutes earlier which I did. For 30 minutes past the time of which my service for service was supposed to start, I went to the reception desk to ask when was my service is going to start and what was going on. No one knew what was going on and one of the staff went to try to find out what was going on for me. To come back and tell me that the manager was too busy to come out and see me and that if I want it I can rearrange must get my schedule services which would now put me and our beyond the time I was supposed to be done with my services. This would have totally inconvenienced my day because as I had other appointments scheduled not to mention my time is extremely valuable! I had to ask for the manager to come out who was too busy to come out on her own after it was made known that I have been sitting there waiting for my appointment to start for 30 minutes beyond the start Time. The manager finally comes out to tell me that she was sorry and that she was going to be talking to the massage therapist she wasn't sure what was going on. She asked me if she could adjust my service on the backend and shorten the massage that I had scheduled by combining my 2 services into one. Total lack of professionalism and service. Valued at this Spa. No one suggested that if I wanted to come back another time as I had to leave because I had another set of appointments that they would take care of my services it was just I'll be talking to massage I don't know what happened. I am surprised that Spa Claremont is considered one of the top 10 spas by many fancy-schmany women's magazines. Yes, the Deluge/waterfall shower with 10 showerheads is pretty cool, but I am not sure if it is worth the $45 for the shower alone or complimentary but pay the high price tag for massage services. I booked a 50-minute massage, and it was mediocre. I did not leave feeling more ohhh's or ahhh's or more relaxed than before. If anything, the waiting room with the comfy couches and magazines and the Deluge shower probably helped me to be more relaxed than the massage. There is a large ladies powder room with clean towels, curling irons, flat irons, combs, Q-tips, hair dryers, etc. which was nice -- it was kind of like the large bathroom that all women wished they had in their homes. =) My advice is that if you just want a massage or mani-pedi, it's best to go elsewhere. If you want a day of pampering with a massage as part of the whole deal, then this is a fun place to be...but be ready to pay for it. I would recommend alloting at least half a day to enjoy all the amenities like the Deluge shower, eucalyptus steam room, and the whirlpool. This was my first and last visit to the spa at Claremont/ Fairmont. Very disappointing. Exorbitant pricing for services. Minimum massage was 50 minutes. There were two of us, 1 therapeutic and 1 deep tissue. $175 for 50 min deep tissue and $165 for therapeutic. Deep tissue was a soft therapeutic at best. Massage therapist was very nice, but was not by any means a deep tissue massage. And therapeutic was a nice soft massage, again didn't set the world on fire. And the cost was over the top. I get it, it's the Fairmont and it's the name and with it comes the high pricing. The spa itself was nice, the hot tub was pretty packed and not very relaxing. Showers, ok. Waiting room was very nice with cucumber water or tea while you waited. Front spa staff was very pleasant. I was very disappointed with overall experience, It was unfortunate since it was for my partner's birthday and had hoped that it would have been a very special experience. It was everything I wanted and needed! I came for a prenatal massage, I'm currently almost 39 weeks pregnant (aka baby could arrive any day now). I arrived an hour and a half before the massage so I could enjoy a few leisurely, slow laps in the warm saline pool which was luxurious even in the cold rain. The only unfortunate thing is that the pool is quite a ways away from the spa so the trek was annoying but totally worth it. From there I spent some time in the showers- NINE shower heads! NINE. That alone could have been the relaxation I needed. The massage itself was wonderful! By far one of the best I've had in long memory of massages. She worked out all the knots in my upper back and shoulders and relieved the pressure in my lower back and hips due to carrying a full term baby in my abdomen. Usually a 50 minute massage feels too short but in this case she really got to all the places really thoroughly and somehow I never felt rushed and nothing was skipped. Finally I hung out in the hot tub, just my feet since pregnant people can't get into hot tubs all the way, and ended the day with another shower in the NINE shower head shower. Amazing!! I felt like a Princess being here! Growing up in The East Bay, I can recall coming here for brunches for special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, and Mother's Day; however, I'd never patronized the Spa. Thus, I decided to treat myself this past Sunday for a 5:00pm "Soothe & Restore" facial. My esthetician was Michelle and I was in the hands of a wonderful woman. Very knowledgeable and extremely gracious. I cannot say enough good about my experience as ALL ladies who helped me from beginning to end were TRUE professionals, warm and welcoming, and excellent communicators. I felt like I was treated with respect, but also that I was in a safe and comforting environment that allowed me to 'exhale' and finally 'catch my breath.' In being someone who has patronized day spas in the East Bay, there's something special about being at a spa in a unique resort. I opted to grab lunch at The Claremont's Limewood Bar & Grill and ended up having a wonderful few days in the sun while sitting out on their patio. I then went downstairs for my facial and I left feeling relaxed and that I WANTED TO STAY LONGER! Ha! Two days later, my skin is supple and makeup looks better when on. Holy crap, I don't deserve this!! They're a little pricey, to be sure, but for the quality it's a bargain. I got there right as my massage started, which meant that I couldn't take advantage of the showers and spa beforehand. I made a note to hit that up later. David is a magic man! He was very professional, gently guiding me from the waiting room to the massage room with his hand on my back as though I were a cherished child. The Swedish massage was amazing. David hit all of my tension without causing any pain, and I've had a few really uncomfortable massages in my day. I think he could tell when I seized up in anticipation of pain, and then he would back right off. I asked him to focus a little on my shoulders, which he did without ignoring the rest of my body. Other points I really enjoyed: scalp massage, foot massage and forehead massage. I would have enjoyed if he'd used the same technique on my hands as on my feet, but perhaps that effort went to the shoulders. no complaints here. After my massage, David guided me back to the locker rooms where I learned an important lesson: rich people use a LOT of water! The shower had nine heads!!! It was crazy and I'm still not sure it's necessary. I personally didn't find it any more comfortable that a single-headed shower, and I fretted the whole time about the drought. Well, admittedly, I could have used the single-headed wand, but didn't. ;-) Then there was the spa. Clothing optional, but I was the only person who was nude. I was too relaxed to feel awkward. Jets, amazing view, wet towels with ice on them... What more could I want? Validated parking. Which they have. Jam! One more note: I forgot my wallet at home and they were TOTALLY cool about it. I didn't realize until I was already in the parking lot 15 minutes before my massage, which was nowhere near enough time to run home for it. I scrounged up a few documents from my car (insurance, work badge), and the manager let me use the credit card on file. I appreciate that. Disclaimer: This might not be exact, as I have a terrible memory, but you will get the gist of things. Justin: I just won a spa treatment at our office lunch thing! They are going to send me a gift certificate for the Spa Claremont. I never win anything! Me: Awesome babe! That rules! Justin: I will wait for you to come up here so we can use it. We should get a nice massage. Me: Awww you are too sweet, I can't wait. Flash forward to last weekend, when I was up in SF and we were on the BART on our way to Spa Claremont for an 80 minute couples massage. Oh this is going to be bliss. We are going to be pampered. I cannot wait! So, we get to the hotel, which is lovely, a little snooty for me, but lovely. We find the spa, head downstairs and check in. The men and women are separated with different spa facilities and locker rooms. You are given some slippers, a robe and the key to your locker. After getting undressed and robed, you are taken to a holding room with some water, juice and apples to keep you busy until your treatment. The BF and I met back up in the middle to walk to our massage room. The room was small but the tables were placed side by side so we could see each other. The tables seemed to be heated and the masseuse did a great job of keeping me covered and comfortable throughout. She applied a good amount of pressure, and checked in with me regularly to make sure that I was okay. The massage was good, but though I don't have a good deal of knowledge of massages, this just wasn't that spectacular. Following our massage, we parted ways again to hit the spa facilities. The women's side was full of naked ladies, I being rather shy, opted to wear my bikini in the spa. The facilities were clean, and there was ample water and cold towels near by. The staff came in regularly to clean up the towels and cups around the room. The sauna is small but clean. I could only take a few minutes in there without passing out! The showers were nice, I had 7 shower heads coming at me from all sides. They do provide hair dryers and amenities to put yourself back together. So, why 3 stars? Because the price is nuts. Our massage was about $400, add tip to that and it was almost $500. Also, at the end of my treatment, my lower back was killing me. I was not sure if it was from sitting in the spa, or from the actual massage. It went away a few hours later after we went home and rested in bed for a bit, but it was not the relaxing effect I was hoping for. read more

Overall: I will NOT be returning to the Claremont spa (details below). I saved for a big spa day, and after shelling out $500+ for services, I left feeling disappointed. I wrote to the manager of Claremont Spa about my poor experience, but never heard back. Services: Facial and scrub: excellent! It was obvious that they were experienced, professional providers and their services left me feeling "pampered". Those two providers understand how to provide a high quality spa experience! Massage: Poor & disappointing. The massage routine literally reflected your neighborhood reflexology massage-- not soothing, at times rigorous, shaking my joints, and missing entire parts of the body. I remember thinking during the massage, where is the quality control at this spa? I left feeling like I wasted $160 + 19% automatic gratuity. Amenities: I specifically chose Claremont spa because it offered hydrotherapy and a eucalyptus steam sauna -- and neither were functioning correctly. Immediately entering the women's spa locker room, I noticed a strong chlorine smell everywhere. There was so much chlorine treatment in the whirlpool, I could only sit in it for 15 seconds. The jets turned on and the bubbles were releasing chemicals that burned my sinuses and lungs. This was not a relaxing, so I moved to the steam room, which lacked any eucalyptus. Products in vanity area are low quality, and you have to ask for a razor or showercap? The robe was huge and scratchy feeling (more fabric softener please!). Dining credit was included, but there was no communication between the spa and dining-- I had to ask when they handed me the restaurant bill. Staff: excellent! attentive, friendly and locker room well stocked. top quality tea and OJ (this may not mean much, but the little things matter in a spa experience). I really wish the massage and amenities didn't taint my entire experience, but it did. I left Claremont Spa feeling cheated because it is so hard to swallow that I paid top-notch price for such a flawed experience. For reference, my prior spa experience has been with Burke Williams, which I use their services maybe once a year as a treat. They are doing the spa experience better and charge their clients less. I hope under the new ownership, Fairmont will invest a little bit more in elevating the quality of the spa. read more

Excellent service! I was very satisfied with my manicure and pedicure. It was very relaxing and my nails came out great! Very upset to hear that the nail salon/ hair salon was shutting down after this weekend. They did an amazing job and such dedicated workers with great tenure. 16, 17 and 24 years tenure for the employees that were there on Saturday, May 5th. I couldn't even get past the receptionist! My friend gave me Spa Ritual passes for my birthday (unfortunately for me, I'm born in December and these passes expire at the end of the year). When I called to try and schedule an appointment, the receptionist told me that the pass wasn't valid on the weekends. This was not stated in the fine print of the voucher that I read multiple times. She told me that's how it's always been. She kept telling me that they were too busy and full for the month of December. I was going to ask her if there was any way I could schedule something by next week and she told me they were full and hung up. Wow. I am shocked about how horrible it was to try and schedule an appointment. It's surprising to me that she didn't even want to try and work with me. The claremont spa talks a good game but they cant deliver the goods. The furniture in the spa is stained and old. The fruit in the relaxation room was rotting and my therapist was 20 minutes late only to tell me we had to cut down my 90 minute treatment to 60 minutes because her earlier appt ran late. What? Never go on a holiday, or special celebration days like Mother's Day. It was so crowded that the experience was the opposite of relaxing. I was avoiding people left and right in the locker room and the "quiet" area was so loud with chatter. Claremont shouldn't have booked so many people. My facial therapist was ok. She kept coughing into her hand and then touching my face, which wasn't fun. And she wanted to talk the whole time, which was nice and friendly, but not too relaxing. I love this spa for it is a perfect combination of everything you want in a spa. The deluge shower-excellent pressure and squeaky clean relaxation The whirlpool- excellent views and right amount of swirls. Like the railings that are very thoughtful and useful for older women. The eucalyptus steam room- best part of hydrotherapy. Refreshing- all your pains and aches melt away. Love the cucumber water and the iced towels available to make the sauna more enjoyable. The showers - wow 11 heads of water streaming on you. Complete stress relief Liked the vanity room which had everything one required-talc powder, shower caps, sanitary requirements, combs and hair dryers. The lounge is well appointed. Bright and comfortable. The staff- very friendly and attentive. The hydrotherapy made me sleep like I haven't slept in many years. read more

Jeez, you guys. After reading so many negative reviews on here, I was ready for the disappointment, the regret, the unfulfilled feeling of wasted time and money that a bad spa experience can deliver. Let me say that I had a great experience, and while it wasn't a five-star time, it is a solid and surprisingly good four with a low handicap and some realistically grounded expectations. This is a AAA Four Diamond property, after all--it's not amateur hour in here, and the building is literally (almost) 100 years old, so everybody just calm it down. First of all, you can tell a ton about a spa (particularly a hotel spa) by discovering its location on the property. (Seriously, try to figure out from a Ritz Carlton website where exactly within the hotel the spa is. It's like playing Battleship.) Spa Claremont is located on the S level of the hotel, where it and a small boutique comprise the whole level of the building footprint. In short, they have devoted serious square footage to having a big enough spa complex to offer a broad array of amenities, services and treatment rooms. Great, okay--at some point someone pitched having a big spa and management went for it, but how well is it kept up when I turn up for my manicure/massage/facial? The answer, based on my visit, is pleasantly surprising. From the check-in area to the lounge room to the lockers, everything was not just clean, but truly well-appointed. The big bonus of hotel spas is that they have access to a hotel property's food and beverage wares, and the offerings were on point with those expectations. Side note: if you have never had the Claremont's fresh-squeezed orange juice, you have not lived. It remains my favorite after exhaustive testing while traveling. Do yourself a favor--never pass up the O.J. there! All areas feature new granite, beautiful tile work, fresh carpeting and paint, and spotless fixtures and signage. In short: they are keeping the place up, which again is no small job in a 99 year-old structure. As hotel guests, we didn't pay rack rates for our spa time, so I can't really say if it's worth it if you're simply attending as a spa-only guest. But I will say that the area and the service folk I interacted there with were worth a premium. Pleasant but unobtrusive (as spa staff should be), they definitely respect your time while making available all the tactile amenities that a plush spa visit should offer: crisp handfruit, fluffy towels, icy water, an array of fresh toiletries, etc. Also, the background music was actually relaxing and not cheesy, which when selected seemingly at random can be seriously distracting in less specific venues. For me: good experience, good value, good real estate. I won't tell other yelpers to lighten up, but they'll get my business (and recommendations) again. read more

No stars is what this place should get. Service is terrible. I sat on the phone for over thirty minutes trying to make a spa reservation and no one ever picked up. Ultimately, the phone switched me over to a general operator who never picked up to answer my call. I was a long time member of the Hotel's club and since moving out of the area, I have stayed at the Claremont on more than a dozen occasions. I will never do that again. Based upon the treatment I received today (facial) it was great however, a friend and I were told to go back after checking in with reception- we weren't showed around and had to wander back towards the reception area to find out where to wait until our appointment time. Incredibly clean facilify, attentive and polite staff. The theraputic shower is literally a deluge of 15# of water on your neck, back and shoulders. So great. Steam room, soaking tub standard, shower and vanity areas clean and bright. I normally don't care for massages, never really understood why people like them so much. Turns out, I just had lousy massage experiences! I got a shiatsu massage for the first time from Efleita (spelling?) and she was really great. I reserved a 50 minute session but wish I had gone for the full 80. I was really bummed when it was over! I also had a classic mani/pedi which was very soothing and enjoyable. So, my husband and I decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary by treating ourselves to the "Evening for Two" at the Claremont Spa. This deal included access to the pool, fitness center, and spa (all day), two treatments (he opted for the deep tissue massage, while I went with the basic facial), and a meal at any of the restaurants on "campus" (we chose the Meritage). Let me start by saying all in all, the package was great!! The pool was so wonderful, especially because it was a hot day. And dinner at the Meritage was delish!! The deal included two appetizers, two entrees, two desserts, and two non-alcoholic beverages. Anything on the menu was available with the deal - no questions asked. However, the reason for the two stars is because my facial was SUB-PAR!! I was scheduled for a 6pm facial. I was in the waiting room at 5:55 exactly, as I was told not to be late. I sat there for 15 minutes. That's right, the esthetician was ten minutes late. There was no apology for being late, just led me to the room. Now, I love getting facials, and I understand that a 50 minute facial means you are with the expert for one hour, but only 50 minutes of that hour will be spent "washing your face". I think it's really important to spend some time with the esthetician before getting down to business. All this woman asked me was: Do you have any allergies. Important question, yes... but there is a lot more information!! Maybe if she wasn't 10 mins late, I would have had a better consultation. All in all, the treatment was nice - she used nice products, my skin looks nice a few days afterwards, she massaged my arms and hands, but for $150 (not even including tip), I expect MORE!! read more

This is a great spa, especially if you have small children and need childcare while you get re-charged. I wish more spas had such a nice childcare facility and staff. The Claremont Spa does AND the price of the service includes childcare for 3 hours for 2 children. YIPPEE!! This is awesome! I have been to spas across California and Hawaii and none of them have this kind of family-friendly support. I have a high stress job and have been getting spa treatments there for 9 years. Every massage therapist has been excellent. My favorites over the years have been: Brunot and Diane (not sure if she is still there). Also, check their website for specials (with or without a hotel room) and don't miss the "deluge" shower in the whirlpool area. I wish their facilities/furnishings were a little more posh and updated but I am giving them 5 stars because of the combination of first rate massage therapists and excellent childcare that is all included. If you go Mon-Thurs, you can swim in their first rate swimming pools, attend yoga/fitness/dance classes and use their fitness areas for a $25 charge. read more

My best friend and I went there for a girl's day out and it was amazing! I had a facial and she had a massage. We both had a great experience there. After spa we went to Meritage for a Saturday Brunch. They don't usually serve brunches on Saturdays but since it's the time of graduations they served brunches on Saturday. The 19th was the last day so we were fortunate enough to be able to go there after spa. The waitresses and waiters were super nice and the food was awesome! There was so much food that we couldn't even try everything even in small portions. The primer rib was so tender...much better than Broadway Prime! Where to begin..?I expected more from a Fairmont property. I feel awful that my husband paid for us to have this as a relaxing birthday treat and it just sucked on on EVERY level. Check-in: When we checked in, we were lead like cattle in a big impersonal group to the locker room/spa area to a rude and inattentive attendant who greeted us not with a normal greeting, but with a "We're not quite ready for you yet," and asked us our shoe size, gave us sandals, a robe, and keys and pointed us to the locker rooms but did not bother to tell us what exactly the amenities were in the facility. I was doing a couple's massage with my husband for my birthday, but I was not given instructions AT ALL to where/when I should expect to meet him after I suited up for us to get our massages when the time came. I asked for an attendant to go find my husband for me in the men's locker room just to see if he maybe knew what was going on (maybe his attendant actually did their job and told him what the process was going to be) and I wasn't given a clear answer on if someone had gone to find him or what. The Facilities: In the lounge, the furniture was dated. The chairs/sofas were way too deep and the cushions thin and uncomfortable. There was no way to properly lean back and relax with how deep they were and how scratchy and bad the sofa material was. -The locker room was tiny. -The overall facilities were SO DATED. The showers were hard to start and there was no way to stand there, tug on the knobs and start them without being directly in line for hard blasts of cold water until the water warmed up. -The bathroom stall doors slammed easily. There was no way to open and shut them without them swinging around and slamming. -The Whirlpool...I didn't bother to go in, just the sight of it was awful. The amenities: The lotion smelled so strong. Gross! What kind of 1980s cologne scent is that?! The spa's policy on phones/recording device use in the spa: I think it should go without saying that you do not use your phone or any other recording device to record anything in a bathroom or locker room. Nothing is posted but apparently, people don't have common sense because I saw another patron recording on her phone (maybe for her snap chat story?!) in the bathroom with mirrors that directly reflect to the locker room! The customer service: I deduced where the lounge was and sat and waiting for what I assumed was going to be someone coming to call me for my massage at some point and while I was waiting, an attendant came and called me back to the desk where a man named Fernando who had checked us in originally was asking me if I was the person that was part of the couple's massage that had requested a specific therapist or a therapeutic massage. I was confused because he was not clear and he was very impatient and borderline rude that I didn't really know what he was asking at first. I clarified that to my knowledge we had just booked a regular deep tissue massage (again, my husband booked this all as my birthday treat and when we first checked in with him at the front desk my husband was the person he dealt with, so why, knowing that clearly my husband was managing this, would he come to the women's spa and ask to speak to me instead of my husband?!) The masseuse and the massage: After waiting for a long time in the uncomfortable lounge, I went to the bathroom and my masseuse came for me while I was in the bathroom. I obviously wasn't in the lounge to meet her so she walked around the facility yelling my name and mispronouncing my last name. When I finally met her, I said hello and pronounced my name correctly for her. My husband had specifically asked for a masseuse or masseur with strong hands because I wanted a very deep, deep tissue massage. Before she started she said she was going to do a strong deep tissue massage (which is what we'd requested). I did not get a deep, deep tissue massage. It was just meh. By the time she asked me in the middle of my massage how it was going I just said "fine." I didn't have the energy to say please make this harder because I didn't think she could. If she had led with a disclaimer that it would be a firm deep tissue massage, and what I got instead was just light to medium, I assume she just couldn't actually do anything harder/deeper. The customer service at check out: When I exited the spa and went to wait for my husband in the front lobby, Fernando asked me how my visit was and I responded "Okay." "Just okay?" He inquired further. "To be honest, it wasn't the best..." I responded. He looked at me and said, "I'm sorry you feel that way." SO AWKWARD and passive-aggressive. ANYONE in the hospitality/luxury services industry who cares about what they do would have asked what exactly was wrong with my experience instead of putting it back on me and saying "I'm sorry YOU feel that way." I went to the Spa at the Claremont with my sister and mom for a girls day and was definitely impressed. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. We were shown in and were able to relax before our massages in a nice lounge that was stocked with cucumber water, tea and these vitamin flavored drinks. Spa Claremont is my favorite retreat from life's stressors. I have gotten massages at many other places -- from various hotels to a Moroccan hammam to clinical-like settings -- and nothing has quite compared to Spa Claremont! Keep in mind, the Claremont is a hotel/resort, which, in my experience, are always more expensive than what you would find outside a resort. But to me it is well worth it. Nowhere else do I receive quite the same personal care. Nowhere else can I shed every stressor weighing down on me and feel like I am on a retreat, just minutes away from where I live. I tend to get a massage and a body scrub (the kukui nut & sugar polish), and both leave me feeling rejuvenated. The spa facilities are great -- clean and spacious. I love taking a steam, sipping some cucumber water, and then stepping into one of the heavenly showers before my treatments. Spa Claremont is a great place for a personal retreat or a pampered day with your girlfriends. If the latter, grab a bite at Paragon afterward for an excellent view! read more

Tha Claremont is a class-act - and back in "my" day (mid nineties - the spa and facilities were 5 star and top notch. I am giving it 4 stars today as I am uncertain of the properties present condition. When I lived in Berkeley we went to the spa for massages and pedicures. They were great. And a hot tub. Returned for my second prenatal massage today and must rave about Amy! She was very experienced in prenatal positioning, had a relaxing presence, and a very thorough style. It's tough to find a good prenatal massage that doesn't leave you feeling somehow cheated out of a full-body experience, but she nailed it. The spa itself is 5-star all the way. I booked a massage with Amy. She was amazing! The spa facility is a little worn around the edges, which makes sense for a hotel as historic as this one. The ability to warm up in the hot tub (and use those amazing showers) before my massage was pretty special. Super pricey but a fun way to staycation in my own hometown. read more

I finally gave up going there when I called 2x to make a reservation and no one answered the phone. When I called the front desk to ask to speak to the spa manager, the operator tried but she couldn't get any response either! I did not love my last massage at the Claremont Spa. I have been here a few other times and had good experiences, but for the high prices, I think you can do better. My last appointment was for a prenatal massage a few months ago. I was shocked that they didn't offer a special table with the cutout for my belly. They did offer me as many pillows as I needed, but it just isn't the same when you are on your side- the masseuse didn't apply enough pressure for me. He did a lot of weird "light touching," but didn't really massage me. Also, he didn't even work on my aching feet like I thought he would! Lastly, I am pretty sure he shorted my time by at least 5 minutes. All in all, I was extremely disappointed with the whole experience. Good thing I was using up a gift certificate or it would have been worse. I have told my husband to skip this place next time he wants to buy me a massage. read more

I came here with a group and they had booked a deluxe spa day package where you could use the hotel amenities including the fitness classes, gym, and spa jacuzzi area prior to one 90 minute service. I didn't get a chance to do it all due to time constraints, but I arrived about 1.5 hours before my scheduled massage, and I felt this was plenty of time for me to change, grab a mimosa, and spend some time in the jacuzzi with the jets (so hot!), sauna (even hotter!), and deluge waterfall shower (cool with good pressure for your back and joints), as well as the really amazing 3 tier showers that you can customize both the temperature and speed of water delivery in different angles at each level of your body (so cool!). I got the aromatherapy massage and this was pretty good. My lady asked me if I wanted to feel energized, relaxed, or destressed after the massage and laughed when I said all three, as that was not an option. I picked destressed, but I think it is all the same =P I don't think I'd pay top dollar for this kind of service myself but would certainly go back again for a group hang out! read more

Had a great experience relaxing in the spa. The attendant was really personable and took great care of me. The facility is not large but has the key components, luxurious shower (8 heads), whirlpool, deluge shower to pound out the knots and a sauna. I took my daughter to Spa Claremont and stayed at the hotel for two nights. I live in CT and my daughter is now living in SF. This was a 25th birthday present for her so we were willing to pay a little more to have a grand, memorable experience. Also, we were given a 15% discount because of being a birthday gift! In our opinion, Spa Claremont delivered. Beforehand I had spoken with several very helpful associates on the phone to help select the three treatments we would each receive. As the timing turned out, in happened to be Valentine's Day weekend and so I was warned that the spa could be quite crowded. We opted to begin our treatments early Saturday afternoon and though it was busy, we never felt like there were too many other people in the lounge or whirlpool at any given time. The locker/changing areas were clean, well appointed. Each of our treatments began exactly on time. My daughter and I each had a 50 Min Deep Tissue Massage. My daughter's female technician, apparently talked more than my daughter liked. My male technician was fantastic. I've never tried deep tissue and he told me to speak up if it got too painful. My sense is that he could can go much, much deeper but adjusted to be just right for me. I was completely satisfied with my massage. I had the Moor Mud Wrap which was heavenly and my daughter had the Ginseng Herbal Facial which she said was SO great. The last was a Valentine special: Chocolate Covered Strawberries Pedicure. This is the point where I don't give the review 5 stars. I'd called ahead to make sure that a nail repair could be done. I was assured on the phone that this would not be a problem. Once there, the technicians said they were not equipped to do this type of repair on my toe and the best they could do was to re-glue my previous repair. I wasn't happy about this because I knew it wouldn't last....and in 4 days it popped off. There was no light in the area to select the colors so it was hard to see. The big pedicure chairs had controls for back massages but you could barely tell they were turned on. I think they were broken or burned out. I think next time I would skip the pedi and opt for another spa treatment. Overall, we felt completely pampered and loved our afternoon at the Spa. It was really nice to be staying there because we were both so relaxed and wanted to make it last! The Claremont is a grand, legendary resort that delivered in service and style. Perhaps we'll do this again for my daughter's 30th! read more

I don't judge an institution (typically) by its failures, but rather by how it handles its failures. I am very impressed with how the Claremont handled this situation, and I want to give kudos to them for doing the right thing. After I posted the review, I got a phone called from the Assistant Director of the spa. I was unable to talk, but ending up following up in person with the spa director, who made time for me over the holidays. We worked out a deal where I got a full refund as well as a deep discount on a stay at the hotel for a few days. I'm really grateful because they gave me and my boyfriend a beautiful Bay View room and it was completely luxurious. We had a wonderful NYE together - very special. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because when we went to the spa, they'd had an episode with the pluming and the spa shower I tried plus the deluge didn't work and the hot tub was lukewarm. My boyfriend told me that on his side the salt water plunge (we should have one of these, ladies!) wasn't working, either. But on the whole I am so impressed, especially with the concierge who helped me book a surprise tour of SF for my boyfriend. The whole staff was really gracious and I hope I'm able to stay with the Claremont in the future. They just raised their prices... but did they fix the broken showers? Did they make the hot tub work more than 10 minutes at a time? Did they update any of their outdated location? No!!!! No fresh fruit like Burke Williams. No iced towels near the hot tub like most places. Yet still charge over $200 for a 50 min massage and have the gall to include and extra mandatory gratuity charge. Why do people still come here?!? Maybe if we stopped they would become more reasonable. Also, management doesn't seem to care about anyone's opinion. Bad customer service. read more
