Not worth the money. $200 for a massage seems excessive unless you have beautiful facilities to use at the spa. If you just get a spa treatment you have no access to the pool. There is no comfortable place to hang out after the spa treatment. The facilities are old. read more

Wow. I'm reeling over what I was just told by the (used to be) infamous Claremont Spa. Purchased a Groupon a while back for a facial. Called to make an appt. The receptionist was confused and kept asking if I was a guest at the hotel "no, I live about a mile away, not a guest." When I explained the Groupon thing she comes back with 'oh, you have to be a guest at the hotel." HUH? Nowhere on the voucher is that said. Then she comes back with 'oh you must be talking about the Claremont Spa in southern California." WTF? No, it says OAKLAND right on the voucher. Now I'm getting mad. She comes back again with you have to book through the hotel. Wait, I book a facial through the same people I request a king sized bed from? Makes no sense. Finally takes my number and says someone will call me back. Ten mins later she (not a manager) calls me back. No, you can't use the Groupon unless you are a guest of the hotel. Wow, that's amazing. They're currently running a special with Groupon -- obviously they need the business. I've had good luck with Groupon refunding $$ and hope same will be true. They've totally gone downhill. I called to make spa reservation for a girls overnight and a treat at the spa for myself and 10 other close lady friends of mines last week, I spoke with a lady that was so unfriendly and she made me fill if I was bothering her or interrupting her she was very cold and uncaring and gave me no assistance in helping with information to set up our treatments. At that point I ask her for her name she said Mari she said so fast I asked her if she would spell it for me alone with her last name she refuse to give me her last name. So I hope I spelled her first name correctly. After our exchange I thought I would call back to speak with someone else on another, before I could say anything she had hung up the in my face. I called again today after speaking with a beautiful deep voice lady in room reservations she was so very very helpful and informative about the hotel she made me excited to bring 13 of my ladies friends. I asked her if I could meet the person behind the phone. She was so helpful and gracious made me feel as if I would welcomed their alone with the others. I'm not good at writing names down but I'm sure I would know that kind and helpful lady with the deep beautiful voice that gave me 100% of what should expected coming from the Claremont. The moment my wonderful connect end for me was when that lovely lady in room reservation transfered me to the spa and that very ruded woman named Mari answered I just felt despair she still was very unpleasant not helpful and short with her answers and just unfriendly PERIOD!!! I did want to speak with her again ever. I have travelled all over the world and have never recieved service that this Mari lady gave me a dog on the street would be treated better than the customer service she provided me again for the second time on today. I decided that I would not bring my friends their out of fear that they would be treated like the lady in the spa treated me. Just awful. I didn't expect this coming from the Claremont every employee there should offer the level of service that the deep voiced lady in room reservation provided me with excitement, enticing me to come and bring my friends and enjoy ourselves. I loved pulling up to the Claremont. Something about the whitewashed old world feel of it makes me think Dr. Kellogg is going to greet me at the door. The spa itself is a little dated, but nice with decent showers, jacuzzi, steam room, and deluge. The waiting room wasn't super cozy though, but you get orange juice and tea. I went in for a hydrofacial with the diamond tip microdermabrasion. The treatment was great and I loved that type of facial. So why the 2 stars? My well paid and experienced esthetician, Angie, didn't bother putting sun screen on my recently removed dermis. I had to ask for it. She replied, "Oh you are right." I go to the mirror to check out my results and she left clay all over my hairline and nose. I went back to the room and showed her the clay and she apologized and removed it. I went back to the mirror and there were still globs of it around my nose and just wiped it off myself. I check out and go to the retail area to pay for the moisturizer and cleanser she suggested. The lady running the retail looks for my items and they weren't there. She asked who was my esthetician and I say, "Angie" and she tells me that Angie never came to the store to pull the product for me. Lame! You'd think with all that money you are spending you would get top notch service. Not only did you lose a sale for products, but I am not going back there again. I gave two stars for Stacy, the manager, who tried to make the situation right. I went here to get my hair done for my July wedding. I had a hair trial with Andrew. The first trial I had was okay - not great, but I thought he would get my vision (a simple up-do) with more practice. For the next trial, he made my hair look HORRIBLE. I was in tears, trying to find a new stylist two weeks before my wedding. I found one - Lhiza at The Shine Salon in Montclair. But Stacy was helpful once I complained and my money was refunded. Her customer service was great - Andrew should really learn how to do hair, or just admit that he can't do up-dos. read more

Again, I'm not sure why this is seen as a luxury spa. The staff was lovely. They did their best but they aren't trained like staff at higher end establishments. My service in the wet room was good enough. The technician was kind and professional. I was just disappointed with the spa itself. No spa water?!! No razors, no shower caps. They lady at the front desk thought I was crazy when i asked for face soap. She suggested I use the body soap. No face lotion either, no toner, or sunblock. No hair products except hair spray. Only those little combs for men. And the spa itself was sweltering hot and humid. Prices are that of higher end spas. I was also surprised not that an 18% gratuity is included (or forced) by the house gets a percent too. Not sure how they can justify that since they are getting the majority of the spa service cost anyway. Felt a little taken by the whole experience. read more

So disappointing. Had a $250 gift certificate, called to make an appt for the hydrafacial, the woman told me their machinery was out for repairs so i had to choose a different service. I asked for the 80 minute oxygen facial-then said may I use the remainder of my gift certificate for the tip? sure she said and she offered me 10% off for not having what I originally called in for. She offered me like 5 different appt times so I was hopeful they were going to be pretty quiet that weekend. No. I got there and checked in to find about 12 other people in the tiny locker room area and waiting room. not relaxing. ladies were talking loudly to each other and on the phone in the waiting area. eww. Felt like I was in a Dr's office. I go back for my facial and it was nice, but when it was over I said "its over already?" and my esthetician says yeah it always goes fast! so I go to check my phone and its only been 50 minutes! so I go up to the desk and tell them and I find out I was booked for a 50 minute! I was not happy. They were accommodating and offered me another service (either a mani or a collagen refresher facial) but it was so annoying b/c I was so mad. I had been dropped off by my husband and he was coming back at a set time so I never had a chance to even take a shower. The whole time I was in my 2nd service (went with the other facial), I couldnt stop thinking about how they were going to bill me etc. I ended up getting the 2nd service basically free-but then I had to tip two estheticians! Now I have 46 dollars remaining on my gift card and was very happy to realize that i can use it anywhere else in the hotel! I will never ever go back to this spa. Ever. Go to Lavande-much cheaper and much nicer. Or R Spa at Club Sport WC. WAY BETTER! read more

Had a most excellent massage with Diane. Her years of experience including Olympic athletes and Olympic horses show in her strong and intuitive hands. Whirlpool and steam room beforehand left me putty in her hands. She will go as deep as you can stand. Just wish it was not so pricey. read more

Received a spa gift certificate here for prenatal massage. All other prenatal reviews are true. Massage is just okay as they don't have the special bump table- just provide pillows to support yourself as you lay on your side. Atmosphere is pleasant, but would recommend elsewhere for prenatal massage. Also they forgot they booked me a female therapist, and introduced me to a male therapist. It was awkward to tell them I preferred a female therapist while I was pregnant, right in front of the man. They adjusted for me, but massage started late. read more

Customer service gracious. Everything clean and fragrant. Treatments were nice (especially Meega who gave a wonderful body scrub). Unfortunately, the woman giving me the massage talked the whole time. We enjoyed the steam room but could not use the spa because a number of women were sitting around the edges dangling their feet into the water. Difficult to get past them and they were also very noisy. No one from the staff said anything to them about it being a 'quiet room.' The gentleman checking us out was very apologetic and gave us a coupon to return on another occasion to enjoy the facilities but with only a steam room and spa, that isn't much to warrant a long drive (although I do love their showers). I also am very unhappy with their mandatory gratuity. If I have good service, I am very happy to tip 20%..but to have it just added to the cost of the visit is not a 'tip'..it becomes part of the cost of the treatment which is already way too expensive! It's unlikely we will return. read more

I was given a gift certificate for the spa for my birthday, based on their national ranking. I have no idea how this spa is listed in the top 10. There are some really nice features, but the spa area is kinda tired looking [in the back of the hotel] and the signage was non existent leaving me to search around, after having to hike up the hill, then I was too late to enjoy the pre spa steam. The cost of the massage [I had a 25 minute add on to a facial for $90] was just ok. The facial was very good. If that rating stood alone, I'd give it a 4 for quality. I'm ok with paying a lot for an outstanding experience, but this was sub standard. My first thought was 'This doesn't live up to the Claremont reputation.' read more

Stay away if you want a quiet spa day. They let patrons use their cell phones in the steam room, in the hot tub, and in the changing rooms. If you want to have some quiet spa time, away from people chatting on the cell phones, this is not the place for you. The seem unconcerned about privacy issues or issues of safety. They are marketing their facilities, I guess, to business people who can't be away from the electronic devises even when in a steam room. Not a great place to get away from it all and relax. read more
