I called to book a massage for two for my friend's birthday. If you call they have more time slots than what is listed online. Both times I called I reached a voicemail but they quickly returned my call. After speaking to someone on the phone I got an email confirmation with additional details like parking or arriving 15 minutes early. I had no trouble rescheduling the appointments for later in the day when something came up. The resort is beautiful! It's like a little cottage. The landscaping is immaculate. When we arrived there was a wedding going on. It was a little confusing how to find the spa. One of the employees told us to follow the brick path and take a right. A less scenic but easier instructions would be to head back out towards the street after dropping off your car with the valet and make a left. As you're walking along the street you'll easily find The Spa/pool area. Checking in we were given a pair of slippers and shown the locker room. Instructions on how to use the locker are easy. You get to choose a 4 digit code. I recommend bringing a swim suit so you can enjoy the hydrotherapy garden (jacuzzi and steam room) afterwards. I was told access to the pool is available for an additional $5. Very clean facilities! Someone must be attending to the locker rooms constantly. Nothing was out of place. Plenty of clean towels. Lots of personal care products available. In the waiting area for the massage even had cookies from the restaurant. There's also water and tea available. After the 50 minute MacArthur massage I felt like I woke up from a good nap. It was very refreshing. My friend said her massage targeted areas based on what she did for work repetitively. My favorite Spa getaway. I'm a Spa suckers and by far this place is definitely on top of my list. It's small enough where it feels somewhat of a private oasis. I got a massage here and it was just lovely, which I needed badly. Their pool is nice, I wish it was mineral pool that would be a hot hit. I love how there's a cute mini shop at the check in and there's showers, steam room and a sauna room which I enjoyed both times I gotten a massage there. Staff is super friendly and easy-going. They kept everything cleaned and a cleaning person was always in and out collecting dirty towels in the locker room area and made sure the common area was up keep. Which I truly appreciated especially during the Covid pandemic time I went. I cannot wait to go back soon!! read more

It had been a while since I visited, was pleasently surprised to see they did a whole remodel. They did a great job overall, you can tell they put a lot of thought into it. The pool area looks so much better, the pool itself is updated and nicer. Hot tub is a nice addition. Good space to lounge. Only complaints are that it's not an adults-only pool so you might get some babies/kids, not typical for a spa environment. The umbrellas are nice but found them to be a little too small to give you much shade, they can only cover one lounge at most. And the music was a bit too loud if you sit near the speakers. I also wish you didn't have to walk through the small reception/shop area to get to the pool area from the locker rooms. Service at the pool was very good. They added a nice smaller co-ed lounge in the back of the spa which is a great add. Steam room and another hot tub, and seating. The locker rooms are still fairly small but updated nicely. I was super sad to see the shower pressure has been reduced greatly. They used to have a firehose shower which was fantastic! Treatment rooms and waiting area are updated but pretty much the same layout. Unfortunately I still found the massage itself to be below average. The practitioner did not have much grace or technique, kind of just went through the motions, can tell they weren't super experienced. 50 minutes goes by too quickly and it felt rushed. However, the pricing isn't terrible compared to a lot of other places. Overall, great renovation, nice place, wish the massage quality was better. read more

Visited the spa as a birthday gift for my significant other. Called a week prior to our visit and scheduled a couples massage along with his & her facials. Unfortunately, the night prior to our arrival, the spa called and stated that one of their two (2) massage therapists became ill and they would not be able to offer a couples massage. Further, only one (1) esthetician is on staff, so both our treatments had to be scheduled apart from each other. Given the late notice I was unable to book an alternate venue, so we had to make the best of it. Would be nice if alternate staff was available to fill-in for sickness and emergencies, but this may not be feasible for their business. All that aside, when we DID arrive the next day we were greeted by a very friendly concierge and a complimentary valet to park our car. They provided us a key and directions through the grounds to reach the spa. The spa is in a gated area with a large pool and hot tub. You have access to this before and after your treatment. A bar and restaurants are adjacent and offer food and beverages as well if you desire them. There are separate changing areas with lockers and showers for male and female clients. Those changing areas, however, join at a common unisex steam room. They DO alert you to this, but it may still be a surprise to walk-in on a member of the opposite sex. Treatments were excellent, though I had to forego my massage due to the staffing shortage. I spent that time by the pool sunbathing and using the hot tub. The staff was super friendly and you could see the accommodations they made with cleaning, masks and social distancing when possible to keep their customers safe amidst COVID. Pricing is on the higher-end for their services, food & beverage, etc. but certainly worth it to pamper yourself for a special occasion. We didn't stay overnight, but their bungalows and amenities throughout the grounds were immaculate and lush with Fall colors from the trees and landscaping. Will definitely go back and plan an overnight stay sometime soon. 4+ Stars! read more

I arrived at MacArthur Place, checked in and was super excited for my massage. I got there right at my appointment time, the lady at the front desk walked me into the dressing room. I asked her if she had a bigger size robe, since I am a bigger girl. She brought me an XL, ummmm didn't fit really well. I think that a spa should always be preparred for any size body and not just have the largest size be an XL. Doesn't make you feel good to have this small ass robe on walking through a spa with others around. Then, I asked her if she had me booked with a girl or a guy, she said a guy. I said I really would prefer a girl massage person. She said that was all she thought was in today, but went to check. I got dressed and went out to the lobby and she said she only had guys to do the massage for me. I didn't feel comfortable and at the same time the guy who was going to do it walks out and says "I have been told that I am really good". I was like no thank you. Anyway, there wasn't any type of apology. I did mention to her that it wasn't an option when booking and since I didn't get a call prior to booking from spa they didn't know my preference. Perfect couples massage for my birthday. The spa has a space to hangout. They provide some champagne, small fruit and chocolate snacks. They have a shared sauna space, provide robes and slippers. Lockers are code protected. They have wonderful products for sale in the waiting/check-in area. A sweet little store offers a wonderful selection of gifts and pampering items. We've been coming here for over 12 years now, and we know how lucky we are compared to some spas in the area that have less of a friendly and local feel. Avoid: Lack of hygiene, poor service, under construction ---- Many of the reviews here speak to the quality of spa services rather than the hotel. The hotel is in picturesque surroundings but regrettably has abysmal and substandard service for the truly exorbitant price. Problems we encountered include: - the property is under significant and pervasive construction, with related noise starting early in the morning. Paths are muddy and upended, and it's unnavigable at night. - rooms are made up in a perfunctory manner. We had to call twice for various items including towels (none were provided), fire logs for the fireplace (for which we paid extra) and replenishment of the snacks/minibar. Towels eventually arrived in a garbage bag (see photo). Twice in the morning, house staff entered the room without knocking! - the desk workers seem to have a "I only work here attitude." Though the hotel advertises 24/7 room service, there is actually no room service at all. When we asked the front desk worker to at least bring us snacks that should have been provided in the minibar, he suggested that we go to food trucks which are about 2 miles away. He claimed that he doesn't have access to these service items after hours. - woke up in the morning to find that the room staff had replaced the bedding with a blood-stained comforter and bed sheet (see photo) I strongly recommend that you avoid this place. The level of service is far below what is acceptable at this price point, even for Sonoma. read more

Itsbeen a while since I have been back. Even in the rain it was a nice day to have a spa day and the spa made it relaxing. Christie gave me what I wanted - a medium gentle message. The remodel was noisy but not where my message took place. My spa partner was not so lucky - BUT they did not charge her because of the noise level - nice! The customer service was friendly and efficient. The spa was clean and offered the usual amenities. Love the steam room, small but clean and plenty of what you are there for - great steam! The Spa at MacArthur Place is heavenly. My mom, sister and I all went up for a much needed spa day and this did not disappoint. We got the 'Spoil Yourself' package which included a 50 minute massage, a 50 minute facial, a spa gift and lunch for $250. Honestly, I think this was a stellar price for the treatments alone. Jill did my facial and she was absolutely wonderful, she did a fantastic job on my face and was very informative! My face felt and looked amazing after, I will definitely be making an appointment with her again. Tracy was my masseuse and she was wonderful as well. I told her my problem areas were my back and shoulders (yay for sitting at a desk all day) and she focused in on that and made me feel so much better. She also was very respectful of me not wanting to chat much, sometimes I feel like masseuses want to talk then whole time when really I just want to zone out and relax. Tracy did a phenomenal job. After we had our treatments we hung out by the pool which was really nice. We were able to order our lunch from the servers walking around and never had to leave our lounge chairs. Food and wine were served right there which was really great! It's a smaller pool but it's also private which is perfect as it's quite and very relaxing. Wow! I don't even know where to start... this place is AMAZING! We booked a ladies day at the spa for a 50th birthday celebration and the spa did not disappoint! The attention to detail was impeccable from the grounds to the actual spa itself. I had a massage and facial. The massage by Cristy was one of the best I've ever had... so relaxing that I melted into the table! The facial had me almost falling asleep from the oils used down to the details of the treatment the esthetician paid attention to my needs and I was feeling on cloud nine after! The lunch by the pool was fresh and delicious, and there is a poolside bar for cocktails. I had the panzanella salad and we also had a fabulous beet salad. The complimentary water and fruit was nice on the very hot day we visited. The spa has every amenity you could ever imagine to get ready after you've enjoyed your treatments. I really appreciated that the spa was not stuffy or pretentious in anyway and went out of the way to accommodate our party. I plan to return with my daughter. If you are considering a spa day in the Sonoma/Napa area this is your spot! So good I almost hate to share. read more

My husband and I booked a couples massage at MacArthur Spa during our birthday weekend in Sonoma. Hotel guests have access to their pool, whirlpool and spa services. We checked in a few minutes prior to our massage appointment time and helped ourselves to the free cookies, tea and spa water. I like the tea assortment they carry at their spa. The change room had a locker room, a spa robe, spa sandals and shower area. The change rooms are very neatly maintained and they were comfy and cozy. They also have a co-ed sauna, but wasn't too impressed with that. We got ourselves into our spa robes and waited for our masseuse to escort us into the massage rooms. The massage room looked very relaxing with dim light, candles and melodious music. They carry a wide variety of essential oils and you pick what you want. I was in a mood for lavender that day. The massage was extremely relaxing. Didn't want it to get over, but sigh... We spent the next few hours relaxing on the lazy chairs by the pool. If you are up for a drink or a snack, there's a poolside menu as well. Definitely a luxurious and relaxing experience. Highly recommend MacArthur Spa. read more

this review is for the spa / massage only, i did not stay there as a guest, but only went for the massage appointment. The spa facility is very limited and small. There was hardly any amenities, compared to the other spa places in Napa. The outdoor pool is small. There is one co-ed steam room, locker room is tiny, waiting area is more of a foyer and doesn't have comfortable chairs to recline on. I booked a massage, the masseur was a young guy who seemed inexperienced. There were spots where he should've put more pressure and other places less pressure, he did not seem to understand that. Sometimes it hurt, other times I wish he had put in more pressure or focus on the area a little longer. I do not think this place serves high quality massages and the spa experience was bare minimal, the price is still high. It was $118 for a 45 min. aromatic massage, it's not worth trying it out. read more

My friend and I were in Sonoma for a girls trip and decided to treat ourselves to a couples massage! This place is beyond beautiful! We we're thrilled they offered a complimentary valet because there is not much of a parking lots, the men working were very helpful and nice! The spa is a touch tricky to get to, there is a sign but it points to the pool area which threw us off a bit. When we got to the actual spa we were greeted and showed to the locker area. The robes are fluffy and very comfortable. We each had a 50 minute aromatherapy massage and we each said it was the best massage we have ever had! I received an extremely warm and friendly welcome and my service was wonderful. Adorable little shop with jewelry, yummy smelling products, pajamas you name it. I was pampered and cared for. The locker room/bathroom/steam room area had a million little touches like having a full range of legit product available for use. I could've spent 10 minutes just trying everything on. We both love massages and have had lots of them...the last few were not great so, I was nervous about booking someplace new. I had a great massage by Christie G (I guess there are two Christies) really, really awesome. My boyfriend said he loved his massage by Victoria too and I was so glad because he is picky too! We even called back later to make sure we got their names correct so we can request them next time. The pool is small and simple but, we enjoy the kid free peace and quiet and the setting is beautiful. We also enjoyed the spa shop - lots of great products and really cute clothes and jewelry! I had the most relaxing girls day here on Saturday July 5! After searching for a spa location that was not booked for the weekend my girl friend's and I found the perfect spot at the Garden Spa At Macarthur Place. The location was beautiful, a quaint little hotel with the cutest suites. The girls and I had a great time sitting poolside, eating lunch and waiting for our appointments for massages and facials. What I liked most was that we weren't staying at the hotel but they treated us as if we were. The pool area is on the smaller side but I think that's what gives this place character is the fact that it is on the smaller side. Of course meals and drinks are a little pricey, but what do you expect in Sonoma at a hotel / spa location. Service was great and my appointment for a facial was very relaxing. read more

I went for my first visit to the Spa at Mac Arthur for a facial with Erin, and before I left I had already booked a follow up appointment for the next week. As soon as I walked onto the property, the rest of the world melted away and it was as if I had entered a secret oasis in the heart of Sonoma. I was instantly able to relax, and though I only live about half an hour away, it felt as if I were on vacation. When I got to the spa I walked past their beautiful pool and pool bar and was greeted with open arms and given full access to all of the spa amenities including a steam room, jacuzzi, as well as the pool and bar. When I met with Erin I immediately knew that I was in good hands, and she took me back and gave me the best facial of my life. She was incredibly knowledgeable about all of her products, many of which are locally sourced, and was professional, efficient, and walked me through everything she was doing which demonstrated her passion for her craft. I enjoyed the steam room and pool after my session with her, and when I saw my friends the next day they commented on how my skin was glowing, all thanks to Erin's magic hands. It was my first experience at the Spa at MacArthur, but since my visit, there hasn't been another spa I would think to choose over it. read more

I enjoyed a Pregnancy package here and Kristi the masseuse was wonderful! She started with a full lavendar body scrub, which smelled fantastic, then a quick shower in the middle of the 100 minutes to rinse off, followed by 50 minute massage. They have the special pregnancy table (pillow) which was very comfortable. Kristi made sure I was comfortable through the entire process and that the temperature, pressure, and table angles were all perfect. I felt very relaxed and spoiled. We didn't have the chance to stay overnight since we had a busy weekend. But we live only an hour away, so we decided to book the Wine Country Romance Spa Package which included a scrub, massage, lunch and gift. Wow! When we arrived, the grounds were beautiful. The landscaping was nice and perfectly kept. The white buildings were clean and private looking. We walked to the center of the complex. The Spa is located next to the pool. The pool is a nice size and there were plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. All clean and nicely kept. We entered the spa, which also has a little gift shop and was greeted warmly (by name) by Annette. She instructed us what to do, since we're not avid spa goers. My boyfriend went his way and I went mine. In our lockers was the "gift" (mine was a rose scented body butter, his was a candle) and credit towards our lunch. When we came out, we sat in the "lounge" which was just 4 chairs and a coffee table. I must say they had the tastiest little cookies there as well. I ate 3! We had our scrub in the couples room, very nice and although I can't remember the names of our massage therapists, they were amazing! They made us feel at ease and they definitely knew what they were doing. (We also got small bottles of the lotions and oils they used with our treatments.) After that, we had an hour break, so we steamed in the co-ed steam room (such a nice touch for couples), then went to the pool and relaxed. Although only an hour from SF, we felt like we were on holiday in another country. We also had a swedish massage as part of the package and lunch by the pool. Everything was great. The spa was clean, pretty, and well equipped. Peaceful, beautiful grounds with lovely workers. We had a dream like experience. We would like to go back once a month if possible!!! read more

This spa facility is NOT worth going to! There are many other spas in the Sonoma/Napa area that are much better! I am what some might call a spa snob, so I have been to my fair share of resort style spas over the past several years. With that being said, my husband and I went this past Saturday and the service was terrible! I got a facial where Jessica did not do any extractions and just lightly rubbed product on my face. At the end, she never told me or handed me a form about what products she used. I opened the door and she was not there to give me any water or walk me down back down or least direct me toward the locker room. My husband's massage was cut short and his therapist did not walk him down or give him water either. She also did not focus on his legs at all and he told her that is where he would like attention for his massage. I asked Rachel, front desk assistance, if I could speak to Jessica about Eminence and the products she used on my face. She knew absolutely NOTHING! She was just saying, "well you could use this or that". I called on Tuesday, to talk to Tiffany the spa director. She did not apologize for the lack of service. As a matter of fact, she actually told me the therapists don't walk there guests down. With the lack of customer service and not so great amenities, I will happily never return. I would suggest you do the same! Solage and Willow Stream are by far much better! read more

My first trip to the Spa at MacArthur was for a facial, and before I left I knew I had to come back for a massage, so I booked an hour appointment with Justin the week after. After my first visit I was eager to come back to enjoy the beautiful property and see what the other Spa treatments had to offer, and I was not disappointed at all! The atmosphere puts you in the mood like no other, and Justin was warm and welcoming, and knew exactly what he was doing. He asked if I had any injuries or certain spots I wanted to focus on and handled everything with precision and care. He was extremely knowledgeable and had a technique that encompassed everything a massage should be, being delicate in some areas, and really breaking down tension where it needed to be, and by the time he was finished I felt like I had a new body. I took advantage of the steam-room and pool afterwards that are included with any spa treatment, and the combination made me feel like I was floating by the time I left the property, I will definitely be returning soon! read more

Went for a spa day with a few friends to escape SF and we loved it! Wonderful aromatherapy massage by Kristi (she even left me Easter chocolates after the massage-yum)! They let you chose your aroma scents for the oil when you get in the room--I had jasmine with a hint of eucalyptus which helped clear my sinuses. The spa area is a little small but has everything you need. It happened to be raining on the day we went which is a shame because using their outdoor pool definitely enhances your overall experience! We did enjoy the hot tub (in the rain) and steam room. Their lounge area has yummy tea, fruit infused water, fresh fruit & cookies. I will definitely be back. read more

Sonoma isn't about gargantuan luxury hotels and has strived as a community to provide an exceptional experience for tourists while maintaining its modesty. Especially Mac Arthur Place which is built on an old Victorian manner--so if you're looking for an olympic-size lap pool and an extensive facility you're obviously missing the point of charm and history. With that said this is one of the best spas I've ever been to. It's quaint, comfortable, has exceptional products and thoroughly trained providers. I highly recommend the lavender dreams treatment. While gorgeous it's not pretentious which perfectly captures the very essence of a town like Sonoma. read more

This place was amazing. Worth every penny. My wife and I went here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We checked into the spa a couple hours before our treatment and laid out in the sun and enjoyed their pool and Jacuzzi. The pool side service was great and drinks are very affordable for such a nice hotel. The day just kept getting better when the spa service started. You get your own private locker and great robe. The waiting area is separate from the entrance and my wife loved the free cookies and the water was delicious...yes, the water. My wife and I got the Champagne and Roses treatment which was great. Kristen was my masseuse and she was the best I've ever had (and I get monthly massages). TOP NOTCH. My wife and I didn't want to leave!
