This is a true Spa experience. So much more than "just a facial". Don't get me wrong, the facial was the best I've ever gotten. Super thorough, super personalized treatment, super relaxing and my skin glowed for weeks. But what makes this spa extra special is the entire experience. The personalized and friendly attention from the minute you sign in, the hot pool, the sauna and steam room, and my favorite, the waiting room with the most comfortable recliners for you to wait in peace for your service. The steam room was my favorite place to hangout - eucalyptus steam just cleanse you from inside out. It is not worth the money. I have had 3 (out of 4) bad experiences there. I have only gone back because of gift certificates. I've never asked for anything from the spa either but they don't even respond. The actual spa and front desk staff are wonderful but that is about it. I think the facial I got at this spa was amazing. I just wish the amenities were more up to par with one a high end spa at a five star hotel should be. The spa itself is pretty small. It doesn't have very much except for a steam room and hot tub I believe. There is a quiet room for when you wait for your service, but that's about it. I was expecting maybe a sauna or something else that was special, but there wasn't. I don't think there really is a need to come here early and use their facilities. I've gone to several spas in Boston trying to find one that was truly more of an experience than just a massage, & I finally found it at the Mandarin. Customer service is always above & beyond-- professional, friendly, and approachable. They address you by Miss/Mr/Mrs and have always been kind to me. The facilities are gorgeous considering the amount of space they have. I was expecting to be underwhelmed based on the other reviews, but you have to remember this is inside a building, it's not on acres of land, and they really did an amazing job with the space. Upon check in, you're provided with a relaxation tea & hot towel while you fill out your forms. Then they bring you back inside to the facilities. The lockers are password protected and come with slippers and the cushiest robe. You start with a quick shower rinse with touch screens to choose a "scene" (Arctic, Tropical, etc), and then the water temps & lights adjust to what scene you picked. Fresh towels are folded throughout the spa along with infused ice water. The "hot tub" is huge, and there's a dial on the wall to turn on/off the jets. Be sure to bring a swimsuit!! You do also need to bring a mask, even in the hot tub. There's also a crystal sauna room, which was very relaxing after my treatment. There was even a bowl of ice that replenishes itself for you to use to cool off. There are full showers with shampoo, body wash, and conditioner as well. Once you're done with the facilities, you can head back to the waiting room, which is fully stocked with healthy snacks (fruit, yogurt covered pretzels, tea, infused water, nuts, etc), a mindful coloring book area, magazines, and several lounges. The lounges are super comfy, they kind of prop your feet up ergonomically, and are a great way to cool down/relax before your treatment. I never felt like it was crowded or busy, I think they space out the treatments intentionally. The second time I visited, there were maybe 5 other women in the area and we never got in each other's way. The first time, I only ran into 2 other women. So I think it depends on what day/time you go. The massage itself was absolutely amazing. I have back problems from scoliosis, and my masseuse Lisa was extremely patient/thoughtful to understand my trouble spots & made sure to check in on pressure. The first time I visited I did the Forest Therapy, which is more of a relaxing vibe since they do a guided meditation + a foot mask. The second time, I went with the Oriental Essence, which was a deeper massage and exactly what my body needed. Lisa let me choose the essential oil she used, and I even dozed off a few times I was so relaxed! After your treatment, be sure to drink lots of water, which is available in your room. There was also a full shower inside the room, but I'm not sure if that's for certain treatments because I was guided back to the facilities to shower. One thing I really enjoyed was that they encourage you to take your time after your treatment. I spent some more time in the sauna, showered, blow dried & straightened my hair, and got dressed before leaving. They have limited toiletries on hand (hairspray, tampons, mouthwash, etc) so I typically bring my own leave-in conditioner, brush, deodorant, etc. Lastly, the cost... it is definitely in the "treat yourself" price range, BUT I will say that it wasn't drastically far off from what I paid at the other spas I visited, and you get a lot more bang for your buck. I won't say the name, but I visited another popular spa in Boston that was maybe $100 cheaper and it didn't even have half of the same perks as Mandarin. So, in my opinion, escaping the cold & having hours of an "experience" to divulge in is well worth the extra money. I will definitely be back and I am already looking forward to it! read more

This was an early Christmas gift from my husband and it was truly amazing. I didn't even realize I had tension - the therapeutic massage melted away all the knots in my body, I was so relaxed that I felt as though I was floating. Buy a gift card for here. I don't usually spend a lot of money on massages, so this was definitely a splurge. The amount I spent on tips (20%) is usually the cost of my cheap Chinatown one hour massage. Make sure you get here at least 45 min early and bring a swim suit. The spa are lockers, as well as disposable underwear, but you gotta bring your own swim suit, or you can buy an expensive swim suit there in case you forget. I was given a tour of the facility, which wasn't huge, then proceeded to us the Jacuzzi. There is also a steam room as well as this really cool shower with different modes such as "tropical thunder" mode or "cool mist" mode. I really loved going to this shower whenever I felt too hot in the Jacuzzi. When it was time for my massage, I went into my own private room. My masseuse was awesome. You get to pick the type of scent for the oil, and can even choose to have the massage table heated. Since I always go to cheap massage places, I had no idea that there was such a thing as heated massage tables. Also, it was nice to have your own private room which was really large. I've been to cheap places where you are separated from the next person with a shower curtain, and sometimes you can hear people snoring away. Here, you have complete privacy. After the massage, you can help yourself to some tea and nuts outside. I emerged from the spa as a brand new person. I was so refreshed and relaxed. I wish I could afford to come here more often, but due to the price, its gonna have to be an occasional treat! read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone, avoid it at all costs for massages and facials. I was so excited when my husband surprised me with a time ritual at the Spa at Mandarin. I decided to have a facial and a massage. I get massages about once a month. I usually go to cheaper, express places and I have to say that the massage I received at this Spa was the worst massage I've ever had even though it was almost triple what I usually spend. The masseuse scratched me with her nails and pinched my skin. Not only that, I did not feel like she go any of the knots out of my muscles. The facial felt nice, but I was left with scars for a week afterwards from the extractions. I called the spa at least 3 times to discuss and they never called me back. The spa itself is not very nice. The locker room is very small and the area with the steam room, showers, and vitality pool is also very small and felt crowded. This area was not relaxing, especially with other customers' very loud conversations. Not only that, but they limit the amount of time you can be in this area and you are only able to go before your treatment. You are not allowed to use these amenities after you are done with your treatment, so it all feels very rushed. The only pros is that treatment rooms are nice enough. read more

5 star experience! This place is incredible. I have been to several spas and this is one of the best in Boston. From the moment you walk into the lobby, you are treated like a VIP. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a warm towel, hot tea, and was offered slippers. Check-in was fast, and the manager (Jason) happened to be walking through the lobby while I was checking in. He took the time to stop and make sure I was being helped, which I thought was very considerate. The spa facilities are gorgeous. They have an incredible crystal steam room, a large hot tub and an amazing relaxation room with mandala coloring pages, magazines, calming music and warm blankets. It was so relaxing I even fell asleep for a bit. Jen was my therapist and she was amazing. As someone who has cancer, I LOVE and APPLAUD the fact that this spa is one of a limited few who have chosen to partner with Wellness for Cancer, which trains the staff in providing treatment to cancer patients and survivors. I have been turned away from services at other spas because believe it or not, many have policies against providing treatments to cancer patients. Good for The Mandarin for refusing to be one of them. Before starting my facial, Jen made sure to go through my health history, ask about preferences, any concerns, and explained all of the ingredients in their products (EXCELLENT products, by the way). This is my new fancy Treat Yo' Self day spa. From the (tasty) welcoming tea and warm towel in the lobby upon arrival, to the very nice and well-kept amenities (I especially love the giant hot tub and the cool rain shower), to the excellent hot stone massage, to the professional and kind staff, to the clean and peaceful atmosphere throughout- it ticks all the boxes for a special occasion spa experience for me. Very expensive, yes, and not for regular use (for that, I head to Imani Massage for a more bare-bones but really effective/awesome massage), but it's a fun splurge that's perfect for a special treat. G2O used to be my fancy go-to, but since they moved and lost some of their amenities (including the hot tub, which is a major reason I pony up for a day spa experience from time to time, and their complementary Brine Salt Inhalation Relaxation room, which you now have to pay extra for plus doesn't include the nice waterfall), it's no longer worth it for me. read more

This spa experience is excellent. All of the staff is attentive without being overly solicitous. The robes are big and comfy. The relaxation lounge area allows you to slowly slide into your session and then slowly transition back to reality when you're finished. I had both the therapeutic massage and the rose treatment. Tom executed both perfectly. He provided just the right pressure for the massage and then the perfect light touch for the scrub treatment. If you've never been to a fancy spa, then you probably won't have too many problems here. While my massage with Natasha was amazing and totally deserving of 5 stars, the overall experience and facilities are not. The facilities are way too small and cramped. The ladies locker room was by far the worst I've been to at any spa, or even a gym! You're basically changing on top of other people it's that tight. The rest of the "relaxation" area is basically 2 showers, 2 toilets, the jet tub and the crystal aromatherapy room. THAT'S IT. My friend and I walked into the room where you wait to be taken in for your service. There were I think 6 or 8 lounger chairs to lay on, but there ended up being 2 or 3 women sitting on each chair since there wasn't enough space. I'm not sure if the spa overbooked or what. Just no. On the other hand, the area where the treatment rooms are seems to be expansive, so the layout for the place clearly is disproportionate. Service was lousy. The kid that checked us in (don't remember his name) was out of his element, and the attendants inside were not friendly, and one was outright rude. Even though my actual massage was excellent, for almost $300, I'd rather go to Bliss or Exhale. I won't be returning. read more

I used to quite often go to the Mandarin Oriental's spa in NYC, and decided to give the Boston location a try. From start to finish the service was incredible - attendants/staff are friendly, respectful of your space, time and peace and very attentive should you need something. If you are looking for hands down one of the best facials (yes including extractions) you will get in the Boston area, I recommend Elisa. Using Biologique Recherche products she completely cleaned, treated and hydrated my skin. Forget the salons etc on Newbury, this spa uses these products for a very good reason. My massage was incredible - with Paula - if you work out a lot or enjoy a deep massage she is incredible, somehow she managed to deeply work my muscles while actually putting me to sleep with her method - which is unheard of, usually I am jumping off the table. She adjusted the pressure perfectly and not once did I feel like she was rushing through any part of the massage, it was timed perfectly. Everyone was an absolute pleasure to deal with, the lunch menu is light and healthy overall, and the relaxation room is a great alternative to awkwardly sitting waiting for your treatment, it's private and peaceful. My husband splurged and got us a timed two hour suite at the Mandarin Spa and it was amazing. We've decided that every last penny we have is going to our next treatment here. Because it was worth every penny we paid. You really should arrive 45 minutes early. It's totally worth it. BRING A BATHING SUIT! You arrive, they check you in and take your shoes. It's ok - they give you slippers. Then a little tour of the facilities. I enjoyed the rain shower with the different settings - and then I'd hop into the steam room. From there, the relaxing room is nice. I enjoyed a cup of tea before the therapist came to get me. They bring you into a little suite with a bathroom, shower and two massage tables. Everything is immaculate. As the other reviews state, they massage your feet and discuss what types of treatments make sense. I'll spare you the details - but we ended up with rose scrub, hydrating wrap and a massage. It was the most relaxed I've been in YEARS. I can't wait to go back! From the moment my boyfriend and I entered, we knew we were in for a treat. Wanda greeted us at the welcoming desk and motioned us to get comfortable in the adjacent couches. We were served a relaxing chamomile and spearmint tea while filling out a preliminary information card. Afterwards, Wanda took the both of us in the spa facilities and showed us around to the various features including a crystal sauna, a vitality pool, a rain shower simulator and the relaxation room. Since it was midday on a Thursday, we practically had the whole area to ourselves! So we got into our Mandarin Oriental robes and let the relaxation commence. I would recommend arriving to the spa 45 mins to an hour before your service to reap the benefits. Our service promptly started on time as we were greeted by Lusann. She brought us to the couples sanctuary suite and let me tell you, i was awestruck. The room was immaculate to say the least with hints of Asian culture crafted into every corner. Our second specialist Thipawan joined us in the room and began the welcoming foot bath while guiding us through the options in service. Both my boyfriend and i chose a body scrub and massage which was to die for. I knocked out in the middle of it. Thipawan and Lusann were very informative and made sure we were comfortable throughout the entire experience!! At the end, while we were checking out, the front desk staff surprised my boyfriend with a plate of small dessert bites as a birthday treat--candle and all! Sadly, I can only give the spa two stars. I really really really REALLY wanted my experience to be awesome, but it wasn't. The Spa is BEAUTIFUL and full of awesome amenities. The products smell really good, the towels are super fluffy and the atmosphere is Zen. Unfortunately, the staff, while polite, isn't really going to bend over backwards to make your experience special. I arrived for a 90 minute massage a few minutes late and was informed that the the time would be coming off off my massage. In addition, because I was the last appointment of the day, I couldn't stay behind and use any of the facilities. On one hand, I understood having time taken off my massage - I was stuck in traffic and ten minutes late - on the other hand, I was angry that OVER A HALF HOUR was taken off the massage. I was barely on the table for 45 minutes. I felt rushed, not relaxed, and the whole thing ended up feeling expensive and awkward. I really like the Mandarin Hotel and I think the spa there could be a great time, but based on my experience, it is only worth going if you, as the customer, take steps to give yourself a good experience. A quick check of Yelp reviews beforehand helped me decide to go a bit early to sample their steam room and hot tub. Since I had been experiencing back pain from a muscle strain, it sounded perfect. And, it WAS perfect. The dimmed lighting, the soothing aroma, the hot tub, steam room, even the waiting lounge made me feel so relaxed and peaceful. I was so totally relaxed, I wasn't sure that I needed the massage! But, that was the best part. The masseuse, Lisann, identified my stress areas and really worked on my sore back muscles. When I first arrived at the Spa, even sitting was uncomfortable, I left feeling so much better, back in tune with my body! I have to admit, being fortunate enough to have gone to some of the worlds best spa's, I am a little tough when it comes to rating them. Minus one star because Boston does not allow spa's to serve wine or champagne. What kinda BS is that?! Coming from SF, every spa serves champagne and wine. I was a little upset to find this out. They have something called a "spa cocktail" for $9 or $12, which has apple juice, orange juice, ginger ale, and something else that was fruity. Um, yeah no, I'm not paying that price for juice and it should not be called a cocktail. Other wise, the facility was top notch! Crystal steam room, oh my, yes! Heated bench, world pool, rainfall shower's, bottled water everywhere, snacks to nibble on, comfortable beds to lounge in and so much more. Very relaxing, extremely clean, friendly locker room staff, and of course it's right on Newbury st. I got a 90min signature massage ($200 before tip) that put me right to sleep and some goodies from their shop as a early birthday gift from a great friend of mines. Spent a day here with my sister friend we each chose a package I got New Mothers treatment she had Purify. I felt extremely relaxed and buttery smooth throughout my time at the spa and the rest of my evening at home. Wish I came even earlier to enjoy the steak room, we sat in the jacuzzi (clothing optional) for a bit, great start to the perfect spa day. Heated floors and heated towel racks quite impressive. The atmosphere is definitely Zen. Water, hot tea, fresh and dry fruit provided while you wait for your services. Checking out was a bit complicated. The woman who brought our bill charged us for the weekend price at first and also forgot to bring our coats. The validation they give you for valet only helps if you spend less than 3 hours at the spa. Since they have packages for 4.5 hours they should change that rule. We ended up paying $48 to park very unexpected. read more

The service was okay, but the spa and amenities is what you really can appreciate. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the same goes for the spa. You enter a seating area where an employee will bring you a hot cup tea and a pair of slippers. You then enter to the locker room ( btw, with heated hardwood floors). In you locker you have a robe and am provided with a kit that includes a Mandarin Oriental case, inside a toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, and shaving cream, a comb, and perhaps some other things (can't remember). You then proceed to your waiting area for your sevice. Very nice and plush lounge chairs await you. On your way out fresh fruit is available. Now for the best part!!! The hot tub is the best and biggest I've seen yet. The steam room is lit with multi-color lights to act as stars. The showers are amazing with 2 shower heads. And there is the really cool shower which has 4 different settings ( tropical storm, artic mist, and 2 others), all were very cool. There are multiple jets shooting water out in all different directions. It was amazing! I went with 3 gf's for a girls day out. We all enjoyed it very much. They had a promotion for $110 for either a massage or soothing body scrub, both of which were 50 mins long. read more

Hotel spas are pricey. And truth be told, I wouldn't have gone here if I didn't have a voucher for a discount. Not like the discount mattered, bce it was still expensive. But I went, and it was really nice. Exactly what I needed. Jeff was my therapist and he was truly amazing. Really, really good. Seriously, his hands were a gift from heaven. And really nice. He certainly helped me relax and keep my mind off work, where it naturally goes. I got the "New England" treatment. My take on this is that its sorta a gimmick - talking about the "Blackberry" muscles and tensions for people on the go. And says it uses New England herbs...not sure if I buy that, but the treatment was nice. Included a foot massage, which could have been harder, an amazing massage by Jeff, an exfoliator thing with a crazy brush and then this clay/mud masque on your entire body. Topped off with some destress gel. Overall, the treatment was good. And due to the fact that it was close to two hours, he was really good. Reason for the basic score you ask? The price. Its really expensive. But that's what you get when you go to a hotel spa, in my opinion. I probably would go back for a basic massage. But this place is too ritzy for my blood on a regular basis! If you do go here, make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes early to enjoy the showers, steam rooms and the whirlpool. If you're going to spend the money, take part in everything. read more

This is a great spa needing just a few minor improvements. My husband I desperately needed a relaxing massage day after exploring Boston and the Freedom trail. The spa facilities were comfortable and the crystal steam sauna was VERY steamy! They also had fancy crystal infused water. Melinda gave the best massage! She was professional and let me know exactly what she was going to do before it was done. A few minor issues. Unfortunately, there is no coed lounge. Also, when we booked I was under the impression it was a couple's massage (different techniques but same time) but we got separate massage rooms (even though the room I was set up in was a couple's suite). These were minor issues but the front desk staff needs more training and hence the dropped star. As I was leaving, I told them my husband would settle the bill since he was still in the spa but the girl (young, medium length blonde hair) at the counter insisted I do it since I was the first to leave. Ok, sure whatever. She asked me to wait on the seat while she got everything and then seemed to forget about me. Finally a different staff came over and asked what I was waiting for. I told them my bill and my shoes. There did not seem to be any communication between the staff at the counter. This was not how I wanted to end a relaxing spa day and not the service I usually experience at the MO. Overall, a great spa. read more

I've been here several times and as other reviewers mentioned, the general spa amenities are amazing. I've also rented the large spa suite with my mom and sister, which was amazing with its own private whirlpool and sauna, two massage tables, rain shower, toilets and dual sinks. For special occasions when you have a little extra cash to spend with a friend or significant other, the spa suite can't be beat. Regarding treatments, I've had the aroma stone massage, the coffee scrub, an aromatherapy massage and an eyebrow wax, and all have been simply wonderful. I get massages about once every six weeks - the only two times I have ever fallen asleep during a massage have been at the Mandarin! I highly recommend this spa - but plan to go an hour earlier than your treatment so that you can enjoy the crystal steam room, whirlpool, relaxation lounge, plus water, fruit and snacks. In addition, its one of the few places in the city that carries the aromatherapy associates line of products, which are simply amazing. read more

My boyfriend and I booked the Mandarin Couples Suite for the first time over Memorial Weekend, and it definitely ranks in my top three spa experiences. The 700 square-foot suite was like our own slice of paradise. It included an oversized soaking tub, a private stone sauna and daybed. They even managed to block out the noise from Boylston Street. When we arrived in the suite, it was stocked with a fresh fruit plate, orange juice, plenty of water and abundance of towels, which was great for when we switched from tub to the sauna and back again. We had an entire hour of relaxation time to enjoy the amenities before receiving our treatments. Once our therapists arrived, they discussed the treatment options available for the next three hours of bliss or as they like to call it, a time ritual. They are very flexible to accommodate whatever it is you want to achieve while you're there. The time ritual begins with a soothing foot ritual designed to restore a natural state of equilibrium. I love how holistic Chinese traditions are incorporated into their treatments. I opted for the coffee body polish, an age repair facial with hydration (the esthetician customized my facial based on the needs of my skin) and finished with a therapeutic massage. All the treatments were fantastic especially the body polish. At another spa, I have previously experienced a treatment where I felt they scrubbed past the point of comfort, but this was just the right amount. My boyfriend enjoyed his massage and facial as well. He was basically asleep for the entire time so if that doesn't demonstrate complete relaxation I don't know what does. The next time we're in the Boston area and need some R&R, we will absolutely return to the Spa at Mandarin Oriental. read more

If you are going to drop $600 for a day spa, I would expect nothing but the utmost professionalism when it comes to the staff. Every time I go, I get the most inept person booking my treatment who knows nothing about the treatment and doesn't listen to what I want. They cannot manage the time it will require and forget it if you want to book more than one treatment. It is like an algebra equation they cannot tackle. EVERY SINGLE TIME, they mess up the booking. Lovely spa, lovely treatments. Find staff that can handle questions, bookings, and timing of bookings. It isn't rocket science! I won't be returning after many screw ups! read more

I came here for an entire day to unwind after quitting my job. From the second I walked into the reception area, I was relaxed. I had a lovely pedicure, manicure, and facial. However, after looking at the individual prices, I don't think I would ever go back for those services separately (my services were part of an overall package). I didn't see the value for the money. The massage was by far the most amazing I've ever had. I didn't even know it was possible to fall asleep while getting a massage, but I did. There is only one word to describe the Mandarin Oriental Spa - blissful. My girlfriend and I went here on a Thursday afternoon to celebrate our anniversary. Upon arrival we were greeted with tea, plush robes, and were shown around the facility. I recommend arriving an hour before your treatment so you can have time to enjoy the steam room, huge hot tub, and rainfall shower! There are also plenty of snacks and water available for your enjoyment during your stay. I received an hour and twenty minute massage and it was perfect. My massage therapist was very knowledgable, friendly, and professional. In fact, all of the staff was so warm and really went above and beyond to make our stay great (they even gave us an anniversary dessert plate upon our checkout!) I would 100% come back to this spa and I would recommend anyone looking to "unplug" for a day to come here as well. read more

I had 80 mins massage with Pam, she was great and made me so relax! At some point I was snoring ! The whole experience was great. If you come for massage here make sure you are not in a rush so you have time to enjoy the heat and water facilities, they got the coolest shower room!! Relaxation, this spa gives it a new definition.... The service is impeccable! I don't remember the name of the treatment I had however it was a body wrap and a deep tissue massage. The rainforest shower was unforgettable and the spa to wait was nice a quiet. Perfect layout for the waiting area, I believe I almost fell asleep! The selection of fresh snacks was good for I stayed through lunch after my treatment. I didn't want to leave. My girlfriend happened to be allergic to some of the products after specifically telling them upon check in that she had very sensitive skin. She was given a credit afterwards however unfortunately she did have a bad reaction. If your skin is sensitive, I would not recommend. This spa is just ok. Not fantastic. Not horrible. Just ok. The positives: 1) The treatments were nice, and the oils had a pleasant fragrance. The negatives: 1) The clientele. Loud and inappropriately graphic conversations in the "Relaxation Room." Clothes and dirty undergarments strewn all over the locker room. Ew. You'd think that the staff would say or do something about it even if the people themselves were discourteous. 2) The staff was pretty saccharine, and bordering on insincere. 3) There is a fair amount of outdoor noise that filters in. Hello fellow Yelpers! My wife and I went to the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental for our second anniversary. After reading many online reviews and researching them on the Internet, I decided on the Mandarin Oriental Couples Time Ritual experience as an ideal way to spend a few hours with my wife in the lap of luxury. Let me tell you about our experience and the great time we had there. When you first arrive, you are greeted by one of the folks at the front spa counter and immediately served tea (decaf with chamomile)...then slippers are brought to you...they brought out mediums for both of us, but I needed a large and my wife a small. After getting our slippers on, we were individually guided to the locker rooms (separate for men and women) to change. Their facilities for men and women are amazing and include a large hot tub, several showers, and even chaise lounges with reading lights. It's a bit overwhelming at first, because there is a lot to see and everything is so luxurious but all this is included with your treatment. I should note that the hallways are dimly lit which helps with the relaxation experience...there are no harsh fluorescent lights anywhere. After changing into our robes, my wife and I were again guided to the couples suite. This was a suite of rooms with everything that you could want in a spa in one place. The suite has a two person Jacuzzi (We particularly liked the salt sachets that you could put into the Jacuzzi water), a rain shower, a private sauna and bathroom, all the toiletries you could ever ask for and a relaxing main room with two massage tables, a very comfortable couch and a fruit plate. After being let loose in here for an hour to relax and try the various items, we met our massage therapists, who conducted a welcoming foot bath and then customized our experience individually. That was one of the things that I liked...that we could individualize our respective treatments...because let's face it, men and women usually want different things at the spa and the Mandarin Oriental understands that fact and makes it part of what they offer. After a brief discussion of what was on offer, I took a deep tissue massage and a mens' facial, while my wife did the same, but she took the regular facial as her therapist as an esthetician as well. For the next two hours, my therapist, Emily, cajoled all the aches and pains out of my body...it was AWESOME! The men's facial was a great addition as well, though not nearly as involved as the regular one. Emily also used scents to relax the mind like pure frankincense. After our Time Ritual was completed, we were led back to our individual locker rooms to change. Upon arrival to the front lobby, I paid the bill (Yes, it was expensive...but it was worth it!), we were served tea, and they even prepared a small dessert for us as it was our anniversary. To summate the whole experience, I would say that they really go to great lengths to ensure that your treatment is top of the line and I truly enjoyed the experience.
