First of all, the massage itself was one of the best I've ever had. Relaxing, for sure. But, more importantly, Heather really worked all the tension and knots out of my muscles. One of those rare therapeutic massages that goes deep enough to address all your issues but still leaves you feeling so good. Secondly, it's the most convenient way to get a massage. I made the appointment via text then I just went home after work and she was there waiting for me (right on time). She brings the whole set up, table, electric blanket, towels, music, oil. She even has this oil dispenser thing attached to her so it feels like she never takes her hands off you the entire time. When it was over, she packs up and leaves and I don't need to make myself presentable or drive anywhere. Already home and relaxed. I'll definitely be a repeat customer!

But at the end of this session, I informed her that I prefer to not communicate during a massage. Thinking that I would be listened to, I then booked two appointments online. The next one I wanted to leave within the first 15 minutes of arriving. She did not listen to my request to not have ongoing communication during the session. But that wasn't the main reason I wanted to leave. The first 15 minutes of the session she asked me what worked and didn't work for the last session, I told her places on my body that I did not want touched. I felt like I was being argued with for the next 15 minutes as to why she felt the need to touch me in those areas. Then at the end of the session when I was tired, and just wanted to go home, she spent another 10 minutes trying to show me in a book why she felt the need for these areas to be addressed. I already said no. But I'm not listened to. My other massage therapist was wonderful and listened to me and never touched those areas. Unfortunately she's too far away For me to continue to see and so that's why I thought I would give Lauren a chance. During the session she kept bringing up reasons why she felt the need to go in those areas. I also felt like I was being talked down to about why she felt the need to work on those areas even though I said no. I am BIPOC and some of the things she was doing were not culturally sensitive. I understand as a white practitioner she may not understand these issues, so I spent part of that time explaining it to her. I was still not listened to and she insisted continuing to do these things. I wanted to leave the session, but I had already paid, so I stayed. I left that session, feeling frustrated, angry, and demeaned. I went online to cancel my next appointment and she sent me a text back saying that she would not refund my money. Adding insult to injury. I didn't want my money to fully go to waste, so I sent a Caucasian coworker to use my remaining session. She, too, felt that the session was more chatty than she likes. She, too, will not be returning. Rarely would I write a bad review. But this one had me so upset I just had to. There's so many massage therapists in the city. I wouldn't recommend going to this one.

Many people might not know what Rolfing is, but my quick definition of it is a cross between a deep tissue massage and a chiropractor. But I know that is still not accurate. Rolfing works the myofascia of your body. I have tried 2 other rolfers before I met Erin, and after my first appointment with her in April of 2006, I just kept coming back! So... if you want to try a different modality of pain relief, that actually WORKS to put your body back into shape, pain-free, then try Erin out!!!

Despite attempting to take good care of my body, dancing has taken its toll anyway. In the 2 years prior to seeing Erin last summer, I had torn at least 4 major muscles in various locations on my left side, and had chronic foot/leg/shoulder pain. After one year with Erin, not only am I pain free, but: -I have my arches back (after almost 2 decades) -My tibias are no longer severely bent -The tendons in my feet are no longer contorted due to point shoes and high heels -My left side no longer gets injure easily, after realigning my pelvis and rib cage -I am able to take a fuller breath than I have since my childhood -Carpel tunnel is gone from my wrists -Internal issues, such as bad indigestion and chronic mid-back pain, have resolved -My endurance, balance, flexibility, and speed have all improved as my body alignment improves. My muscles no longer have to work solely to hold my body together, and are free to actually assist me to dance! I have recommended many students to Erin for various postural and movement problems, and they have also benefitted greatly from her sessions. My students' professions range from consultants to engineers, so the benefits of rolfing are certainly not limited to athletes, and it can definitely help those with chronic pain. I also need to mention that in addition to dance and warm-ups, I also do quite a bit of Pilates and have regularly seen excellent massage therapists, chiropractors, and dance/sports physical therapists. However, none of them in combination could do what Erin did for me. I still see a massage therapist, but now I do it to keep my muscles in good condition and not to relieve the severe pain that use to exist. If you have a great professional in one of those fields you already work with, but still need more help, I highly recommend adding rolfing with Erin to your schedule. Worth every penny.

They provide you with slippers and a robe and ask you to take off your shirt and put the robe on. The service I had was an hour long treatment where they massage your head, shampoo and condition, and then clean your face as well. Towards the end they put a face mask on and turn out the rainbow-shaped water spigot and they massage your arms and wrap your feet in hot towels. They have a sound machine going and dimmed lights so the whole process is calming and relaxing. PRO TIP: if you reference their Groupon for this service, they will honor the price. The only thing I didn't love was that they used Pantene shampoo/conditioner. Would be better if they used Japanese products or something cleaner than basic Pantene. Maybe even a scalp scrub?
