My wife and I needed a getaway, Ogunquit is her favorite place. We found an available room at the Sparhawk Oceanfront Resort. We arrived 4 hours before check in and the Gentleman that was running the front desk (busily) was extremely friendly and professional (owner??). He gave us a parking pass so we wouldn't have to move our truck. Sparhawk is right at the entrance to the Marginal Way , we walked to Perkins cove for lunch then back to check in. Still a little early, but the had everything ready for us. The room was very clean and nicely laid out with the bed and chairs both facing the ocean. It also has a nice deck with 2 chairs a lounger and small table overlyhe ocean. Definitely will return!

This is not the most luxurious resort but it is in the most beautiful spot right at the entrance to The Marginal Way and the rooms are clean and well maintained and the personal service is definitely Old School and the price of a stay is ridiculously low! Been here twice and would definitely come back again! You can walk to all the shopping and restaurants on the main drag! This place is a gem!

My parents have stayed at this hotel many times in the upper level of the Sparhawk building which they said was very nice. For our stay we originally booked a room at the sea wall level of the Sparhawk building which I was excited about since the water was right below the outdoor porch. However we extended our stay a day and this room wasn't available all the nights so our stay would need to be split between two rooms. We checked out our room and found it to be worn with holes in the window screen which is not the experience my parents had on the upper floors. We decided we would ask to view the room in the Ireland House that was open all 3 nights. For the extra $20 a night we chose to stay in the Ireland House which was perfect as it was clean and modern and it had a seating area with a 2nd TV in the room. The hotel grounds were well maintained for the most part! Breakfast was extremely basic but the muffins were made on site daily.

    MAGNIFICENT VIEW FROM OUR BALCONY

My husband and I just came back home from a wonderful birthday/anniversary long weekend!!! This resort is everything it promises to be, and more. We chose Oceanfront on the top floor and our room had the most amazing views of the ocean. We sat on our deck every morning and drank our coffee with no care in the world. The room was immaculately clean, we felt completely safe. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and efficient. They are so well organized during this pandemic. It was absolutely a breeze!!! The continental breakfast was so yummy, they have coffee and tea until 9PM every day, which was awesome. Anyone looking to just RELAX and CHILL, must stay here. We are definitely coming back!!!!!

Honestly, THE best location for a 'room with a view'! It's like being on a ship without the movement! We basically were ON the water! So, 5 ***** for that! The hospitality (read: staff) is perfect! The rooms, though fresh and clean, are a bit tired. Seems like the smallest touches could remedy that. Beds are comfortable. Refrigerator in room- always a bonus! We stayed in the off season and couldn't have been more pleased with the overall experience. The proximity to the Marginal Way walking path, town and beach is also a bonus, though you can definitely find that elsewhere!

The view is 10/10. Right on the water, like literally feet away. Room is clean and comfy. We like it here a lot.

However, if you're like me, and you want a full vacation experience and hotel with a lobby and some amenities, with a pool, private balcony, a room with a beach view, and a fun experience hanging out in the room on a rainy day, or relaxing at night with wine and cheese, just know this is a simple little place and not all rooms are spacious and have views - you will have to make sure you reserve one of the larger rooms with a view. And the hotel is all about location, not frills. We made our plans late and got a garden level room, which was clean and had a comfortable bed, but, well, it's a garden level room with no view, facing a parking lot, with ultra low ceilings and was kind of cramped. Still, it had a nicely redone newer bathroom and shower, a functional air conditioner and it was convenient that there was a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven (for slices) and a sink for dishes etc so you don't have to fill up your coffee maker with water from the bathroom sink lol! We got lucky and had beautiful beach weather for every day of our stay so we just used the room to shower and sleep and spent time at the beach, walking Marginal Way, exploring Perkins Cove, shopping, trying different restaurants and having ice cream at night on one of the many public benches for people watching. This hotel does have a pretty lawn with some tables and chairs for all guests to use and that was nice in the morning with coffee. But if you reserve and get a garden level room, I wouldn't recommend that in the off season, or if you are unlucky and get rainy weather.

My husband, sons and I had been going to the dunes for 8 years as returning customers to our cottage at the dunes. it was what everyone in our family always looked forward to. Both of my sons could not wait to take our yearly family trip. it was our forever spot, where we envisioned our family generations going every summer. When my oldest went to college he would still come to the dunes, even flying from his internship in California out to our yearly two week dunes vacation because, yes, it was that special. I can't understate that it was an absolutely magnificent place, untouched by corporate greed, a little family operation. The only thing to mark the property was an un-assuming wooden sign, small and simple but well done - just like the dunes. if you went fast enough on the bustling touristy road you would miss it. beyond the threshold of pines that shield your view to this little ideal world, are incredible ocean views, simple little cottages, green grass, and lots of space, it was a simple little paradise. the dunes was simple, elegant and already expensive. now imagine 2x the cost and you get the idea. what used to be around 8,000usd for a two week stay ( and a full kitchen) is now around 20,000$ (with no kitchen)........ absolutely insane. whats more disappointing is the rebranding of the property as some luxury cottage getaway when the original architecture and entire feel WAS ALREADY MORE GENUINE than this rebrand!!! The whole idea of the dunes cottages were things are simple, like going back in a time machine, units aren't about new interior renovations and luxury finishes. its about time to connect with family outdoors, get away to a simpler time and remember what truly matters. shame on new ownership - truly commercialism at its finest. Well done management, you lost an 8 year returning client, and just know, we have since visited and this place lost what made it special.

The room came equipped with our own Keurig and fridge (with bottled waters) and Lindt chocolates, yum! Love the sliding pocket door leading to our bathroom and the cozy decor of the entire room. The Covid prevention at the inn was A+ excellent. Hand sanitizers everywhere and the entire inn was spotless clean. And even though we all wore masks, it was easy to see everyone who greeted us was smiling, especially Bruce! Extremely warm & friendly environment. I really LOVED breakfast and appreciated the ordering process: wipe-away mini menus where we checked off what we wanted to order. Brilliant! By the way- possibly the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had in my life! Thank you again for a wonderful stay! We will most definitely be back! Highly recommend! There's black mold and wood rot on the interior door jam and molding from previous frequent flooding. There's moss and mold all over the deck as well as a broken/missing light fixture with exposed wires and broken deck boards. The ceiling fan is covered in dust. The shower head is filthy with some gross substance caked-up on it. The bathroom wall is also cracked with chipped paint and the counter top caulking has failed over time and needs to be redone.
