I had long enjoyed this spot in its prior life as a restaurant. A delightfully rustic and comfortable setting. This last experience is my first visit since it's transformation to an event venue. The above noted qualities about place certainly remain. And it had a nice dance floor and setting for a DJ we had brought in for the event. It was a fun event. But the food and service seemed to be a bit meager in its presentation and quality and availability and the event was curtailed early (supposedly because of misunderstanding ) and so in my judgement these factors took away from the overall experience. read more

Where do I even begin to review The Spinning Wheel, and the staff there? My husband and I are beyond pleased with how absolutely seamless planning a wedding was at the Spinning Wheel. Katelyn was THE BEST, she answered all of our questions, was patient, kind, and beyond helpful planning every detail of our wedding. She is not only a professional, she was amazing helping us create our vision. The servers and bartenders were like nicest people, they were warm, attentive, and truly kind. Katelyn truly made all of our stress melt away. She was always there to help, always there giving us suggestions and ideas, and helped us even find a rehearsal dinner space nearby. The actual facilities of the venue are incredible. From the rustic fireplace to the very very very cool sitting area with the turtle ottoman, everything felt magical. Our ceremony and cocktail hour in the outdoor space was something out of a fairy tale. Everything was clean and beautiful. The venue is designed in a way that your guests don't feel crowded there is plenty of space to move around, dance and have a great time. Ok now the important part! THE FOOD. Now I am not just saying this because it was my wedding, but holy crap! The food! The passed apps were delicious, warm, and everyone was able to get some without having to look for them. The actual dinner service was brilliant. The food was fresh, hot, and used whole good ingredients that made the food all that better. Everyone who we have spoken to that attended our wedding was in awe of how good the food was! All in all, picking the Spinning Wheel was the best decision my husband and I made. The staff made our day so special and I wanted to sing their praises. Katelyn should teach a class in wedding planning because she was perfect! I don't even have other words to describe her attention to detail and kindness. Even the next day following the wedding my Husband and I were heading back to the venue to collect our decorations and personal items, Katelyn had them all packed up already. I really like the atmosphere at spinning wheel. I haven't been here in a while but I used to go all the time. It offers a beautiful quaint atmosphere in a lovely rustic setting. The last time I was here I got their clam chowder which was delicious followed by some pizza which I didn't like too much honestly but as it was the first time I ordered something there that I didn't like I would still rate them a four. I mean anybody can have an off day. I am glad to see they're still around and would recommend them because they're beautiful and I've always enjoyed myself here. I think you will too. read more

Last Friday I experienced a decision made by Chef that defies all logic I ordered there Cobb salad Cobb salad's traditionally come with chicken I wanted to increase my protein and so on the menu that I have attached to this post the option to add or substitute at an additional cost I asked the waitress to add shrimp to my salad her response was the kitchen doesn't like to do that but she would ask the chef it was to my dismay that her response when she came back to the table is the chef would not add a second protein to my salad? I understand in some circumstances where kitchens cannot remove something from the dish that may be prepared in advance however the addition or subtraction of chicken shrimp salmon which is clearly marked on the menu to begin with anrequest made by a patron who is spending good money to dine at a location when there are so many other choices perplexes me to no end. I am a culinary graduate I ran restaurants in New York City and was also executive chef I would never do this to somebody and for that I will never step foot back at the spinning wheel! I especially love sitting near the fire place in winter, it's so cozy! Each time we have eaten here the service has been extremely friendly. We really enjoyed this restaurant. From the minute we entered we were made to feel at home. The restaurant is very nice, they don't over do it with art and decorations but has a very clean rustic style to it. For starters I had the butternut squash soup and my girlfriend had the New England Clam Chowder. Both were absolutely delicious. Personally I love my soup to be on the thicker side and this one did not disappoint. It was perfect! The New England Clam Chowder was just as good. For our entrees I had the New York Strip which was served with asparagus and fries. The cut was very good but the temperature was just a bit off but I was ok with it. My girlfriend had the Shepherds pie and she totally loved it. We usually don't do dessert but this time we did, we ordered the hot pecan brownie a la mode and was very pleased with it. This is our first visit to the Spinning Wheel, though we had been meaning to try this place for a long while now. First off, Kudos to the excellent waitress who waited on us. I forgot her name, but she was excellent at her job, and didn't forget the cutlery or the order or the requests we'd made. She also checked in on us twice during the meal and took care of our cheque swiftly, despite the restaurant being full. It has been a long while having such perfect service, i actually forgot how good it felt! Wow! We thought to return to do a birthday dinner here, because the menu has a wide range and variety of foods for all ages and all types. Including for us vegans and vegetarians. I was very happy with our choices. The prices were also very reasonable for the service and the food they provided. It was an excellent meal, and they really were easy on the salt. Such a wonderful change from all the other places and localities that tend to make the food so salty, it is all one can taste. DO NOT HAVE ANY EVENTS HERE. The spinning wheel was totally out of line at my sisters wedding. She had 125 guests, drink line was about 30 minutes long, they had a young boy making the drinks. Then after maybe 2 hours being there they started to cut people off (mind you, we were not drinking crazy because the line took forever and no one drove to the venue) the bartender ADMITTED to me that she was watering down drinks and not putting enough alcohol in each drink. We spoke to the owner and he was so unprofessional and outright RUDE. Once we questioned the age of the young bartender, they took him off service (suspicious ) to end the all, they put up at sign at 9pm to let us know the bar was closed. NO warning, NOTHING. Also, we went for cocktail hour, they played music off a iPad/ 1 speaker and locked everyone out of the room. I had left my purse and phone in there and was not allowed to get it for over a HOUR. This place is a DISGRACE. I feel so bad for any bride and groom. read more

We really like this place. It is not really near anything but since we live a few miles away it is convenient for us. The staff are always polite, friendly and helpful. The specials always add to an already nice menu. The building is really nicely renovated, clean and roomy. The bar has a couple of nice sized TVs. We did our regular appetizer the cannonballs which is like 7 small backed potato. They were as always - great. Last night 3 of the 4 of us had pizza - odd because we have been there several times and none of us had ever gotten one. Chicken and bacon, goat cheese and sausage, arugula salad - all the pizzas were really good. Not super thin crust with a nice bite and crunch on it. Sauces were all good as were the cheeses and toppings. Our 4th dish was the shepherds pie made with short ribs. Wow that is a fantastic dish. It is one of our regulars. No room for desert this time. Great, one-of-a-kind restaurant in this tiny neighborhood. As Cliff B. described, it really feels authentic but also cozy and clean. The bread basket is always full! The beer and wine list is really impressive, one of the best in a 50 mile radius. Sad! In one sentence: A shadow of its former reputation and self. My wife took me out on a weekday evening for my birthday dinner. We dined in a room adjacent to a noisy bar that appears to be the watering hole for those traveling home on busy Route 59. Back in the day, (1960's) when my parents celebrated a special occasion, the Spinning Wheel was the destination of choice for fine dining. Times have changed and the place appears to have not only changed hands several times but so has the decor. It's a grubby pub atmosphere with old tables covered with brown paper and ancient seats which must have been found at a flea market. I ordered Shepherd's Pie. Braised meat with few peas and carrots. At least the covering of mashed potatoes was good. As a frequent patron of English Pubs when visiting the UK, I would comment that an English pub chef would be crying in his ale if he witnessed what was served. My wife ordered a salmon dish which was OK but nothing exceptional. Did not order dessert so I can not comment on that experience The service was OK but we will not be back. There are several rooms in the farm house (a larger modern room, a bar and a cozy fire placed dark paneled room) Unlike other reviewers which mentioned poor service, our service was excellent! We were seated immediately without a reservation in the rustic fire place room. (It was winter so no outside seating). I only wish we could have seen the lovely fire better but another table blocked it but it was still a cozy room. The Bloody Mary was very good and reasonably priced. My husband ordered the hamburger which was cooked perfectly. I ordered a salad with tuna tartare and pignoli nuts. The tuna was excellent but the pignoli nuts over powered the salad and may have been slightly stale. Portions are very good. Prices what you expect for Fairfield County. A charming place with great food. I had the pan seared scallops which are normally served with a white chocolate and sherry cream sauce. I've heard it's wonderful but I don't like chocolate so I asked for no sauce. The scallops were perfectly seared and I know scallops. Can't remember when I've had better. My husband decided on the Cobb Salad which was beautifully presented and he tells me he enjoyed every bite. We split the apple crumb dessert and it's to die for. We had to wait a few extra minutes for it and it was explained that each one is made to order. Well worth the wait. Large enough that 3 people could split it and it would still be a lot. Great cocktails, they had all the right liquors. Awesome beer menu including delicious artisan beers. Place is spotlessly clean. Service is attentive and friendly. We were very very pleased overall. Have been to the Spinning Wheel Inn twice now; once for sunday brunch and once for dinner. Both times my family and I were very impressed with the overall experience. The decor is impeccable; the new owners have really embraced the heritage of the building and have restored it with the charm of Redding in mind. At brunch we were met with a fantastic spread, and some members of my party particularly enjoyed the bottomless mimosas (thanks mom) and bottomless bloody marys (in-laws! Yesss) that come as an option. Note to self: come back with someone to drive me. The dinner we had on the patio a few weeks couldn't be beat. The meatloaf is particularly tasty, and the sea bass was cooked to perfection. It was about 70f out, cloudless sky - epic! Final thought on the staff - they seem to be mostly local kids. While they're not highly trained Manhattan caliber waitstaff, I think it's awesome that the new owners hired local. This restaurant is certainly a gem for Redding and my family and I will surely be back for many more occasions. read more
