We came here for the Connecticut salad in particular, which was supposed to be very good. Apparently they changed the salad to not include the fried goat cheese balls, so we were very disappointed. Seems like a lazy thing to do to make life easier or cut costs - anyway the salad was apparently nothing like what it used to be... Restaurant no longer sells bread because vendor went out of business due go Covid. I get it and want to be sympathetic...but why not find another vendor or just make your own bread? Its simple enough. Also the menu is extremely limited and unappealing. No steak or fish offerings, no real meat dish aside from a meatloaf. Service wasn't amazing. read more

The Spinning Wheel is great escape from the fast pace beat of Fairfield County. The Rountos family goes out of their way to make you feel as though you are at your very own country home. My cousins and I enjoyed a variety of craft beers and appetizers in front of a warm fireplace on a cold snowy night. The Spinning Wheel's craft beer selection was great. The bartender was very friendly and made time to talk to us about the local brews, even though he was very busy. The Spinning Wheel's Crab Cakes stood out; they were cooked well, contained fresh crab meat and served with a magnificent sauce drizzled on them. Bottom line... Try the Crab Cakes, they are out of this world. My compliments to the chef and to all of the staff who were very friendly. This is truly a unique place for Redding, CT. We just had my nephews wedding last night and I have to say that Chris and his staff were incredible! Chris let us in early to set up and when we got there most of our items were already set up and the place was so beautiful we literally didn't need to do much more. The ceremony was perfect and Chris was wonderful in organizing us all. The FOOD!!!!! Are you kidding me?? Delicious! The chef is amazing so incredibly talented. We offered our guest Steak, Chicken and Fish...you would think boring boring..NO WAY this food was beautiful the servings were generous and the flavor...just delicious. The cocktail hour was wonderful with those crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms to die for. The spinning wheel is really the only restaurant in this area - and it's a good one. Cucumber rice is delicious, have also had salmon, wings, shepherds pie, salads and more - all delicious. We eat out a bunch and so were excited about trying the new Spinning Wheel after reading reviews and living in the area. So my wife and i visited yesterday for their Sunday Brunch. Location, location, location key for real estate, not restaurants! The location is convenient for us, the remodeled restaurant was nicely done, clean, inviting with a nice big fireplace adding just the right amount of charm. The Bar area was well pointed and while quiet for Sunday Brunch, we could see this as being a great spot for a drink with friends. Location and decor are important, but in restaurants, the food and the service are is what really matters. Contrary to others reviews, we found the Brunch a major disappointment on both aspects. The staff was inexperienced and "awkward". They did not know what to say, when to come to the table and when not to. Often they would stand by the table without saying anything. They all seemed young and lacking even the most basic serving responsibilities. Even the "Chef" cooking omelettes(on two electric burners which cause a big back-up in orders) demonstrated his cooking skill by testing the heat of the omelette pans by touching them with his hand which was covered in a rubber glove. When he went "ouch", I knew both the pan was hot enough for him to cook the omelette and that I would have a hint of rubber flavor as a bonus! The Brunch buffet was stated as elaborate and by number of items, it was. The amount of each item however, was anything but elaborate. Each item was often low, cold or of poor quality. The carving station, which included fresh cooked ham and flank steak was the exception, as this was both prepared and served perfectly. Unfortunately, the new Spinning Wheel may offer a great lunch and dinner experience (we have not and likely will not try this), but it appears they have not fully committed to what it takes to deliver a quality Sunday Brunch experience. Yes the location is nice but in the area there are a few places for a Sunday Brunch. The new owners should test the competition like the Red Barn in Wilton or the Brew House in South Norwalk for Sunday Brunch to see how food can and should be prepared and served. Great place with a wonderful atmosphere- not pricy at all (so I wouldn't agree with the $ rating for here) most expensive thing on the menu is the steak for $28 ... Not a bad price really)... Met one of the owners and he was super pleasant- staff were great and food was phenomenal!!!! My advice- save room for dessert!!! Lots of room! Because the desserts are made to order and are large- one can easily feed two people - if you are willing to share of course!!! ;-) I had the salmon which was fantastic and the pecan brownie dessert- mmmmmm! So I've been to the Spinning Wheel a few times since it re-opened and have always had a nice time. But I went to Mother's day brunch and was just so disappointed in the pricing. I had been to brunch the week before and it was $20 as all of the reviews mention. I called for a reservation for Mother's Day and was not told that they were more than DOUBLING the price for that special day. They accommodated a last-minute change in our reservation which was really sweet, but $46 for a buffet brunch and one beverage (hot coffee or tea, a bloody mary or a mimsoa only -- they CHARGED us for iced teas). The food was delicious and plentiful, but it is a buffet. At $20 the buffet brunch is quite a deal. To hike up the price on the backs of us moms who work so hard, makes me think twice about ever coming back. A real shame. p.s. I also don't know what it is about the place, but parents seem to think their kids should be able to run all over the place and not stay in their seats -- almost palatable for a less expensive meal -- but at basically $50/pp I expect peace during my meal. read more

The Spinning Wheel is about as good as it gets as far as local restaurants go. The ambiance is great, especially in the winter with the roaring fire. We have always been impressed with the service - everyone from the waiter to the guy who refills your water is professional, efficient and super nice. No complaints about the food either, or their nice selection of rotating beers. We had an experience here that turned this from a 4 into a 5* for me. My husband and I took a risk and went there on a Saturday around 8. The restaurant was busier than usual and their huge parking lot was completely filled, leaving us to park down the street. Turns out they could fit us in the packed dining room, but the rest of the space was completely filled with some event going on. We ordered and expected it to take a bit longer than usual due to the amount of people there both for the restaurant and event. Our appetizer came out and everything was great, however when the entrees came out mine was the completely wrong order. I politely told the waiter it was no big deal, but he rushed it to the back and insisted on sending out the manager. When she came over, I reiterated that it was completely fine and we understood that it was a busy night, however she insisted on buying me a drink and comping my meal. When the correct entree came out a few minutes later, it was delicious as usual. When my husband and I were leaving, the same woman manager ran out behind us, calling to us, and handed us a gift certificate. I told her it was totally unnecessary, we appreciated that they were very busy and the meal ended up being delicious. She said she knew we understand and appreciated us being gracious about the mix-up, but that was not how they did business and insisted on giving us the gift certificate. Probably the best customer service reaction I've ever had! Now we are even more compelled to visit, knowing how much they care about their customers! read more

We were so disappointed. We stopped in for lunch after having heard great things about this place. The service was atrocious. There were three full tables ( including us) in the restaurant and we waited forever for our food. The orders were wrong. No water refills. No coffee refills. No one checked on us at all. We finally had to go to the bar to find our check. The woman printed it out for us while on the phone. Handed me the check, ran the card, gave it back. all while on the phone. This is our second time at The Spinning Wheel and it was horrible. We ordered our appetizers and the crab cakes came out with black bottoms. We had to ask to have dishes cleared and it took so long for our entrees to come out, we ended up taking our food home because my children were exhausted. The Spinning Wheel has all of the right ingredients to be an amazing restaurant, the ambiance, the location, the staff... But both times we have gone we have been really disappointed with the food. While their menu is a bit sparse in terms of creativity, they do offer a wide range of items and have a great beer and wine list. What really disappointed us was the fact that as you pull up and walk through the door its easy to have very high expectations because the place is so nicely done, who ever did the renovations and decorating here really nailed it, but the food does not stand up to the atmosphere. I think perhaps my husband and I are guilty of seeking out restaurants with chefs who really have a passion for food, places like Baileys Backyard, The Little Pub and Clock Tower Grill. The food here is really comparable to any american pub, or dive. Its not horrible by any means, but its nothing to make us go back again- and I say that with the ultimate remorse because as I mentioned, its beautiful, comfortable, the staff is great and its super close to our home. We want to love the Spinning Wheel, but there are too many other places who offer what they offer and do it much better. Their crab cakes are so doughy and bready I could not even eat them, it was a shock. I eat crab cakes at almost any restaurant that serves them and I have had them many ways. These were heavy, filled with way too much bread and mush and had very little crab. When I think of a crab cake, I think light & bright with the flavors of scallions, and other ingredients and a slight crispy brown edge. They were sent back. Their Sea Bass is good, my husband ordered it and I also had it with him, very nicely done. Their burgers need help. The meat has no flavor, there is no juice, and they are just so disappointing overall. There are about 6 places I can think of off hand who make amazing burgers in the area if you are looking for a quick cheap meal- this is not one of them. VERY basic. They do offer a veggie burger- which we didn't try, but it was nice to see it on the menu because we have children who have to avoid certain foods and not many restaurants offer alternative options. The cannonballs were under-seasoned, greasy and just okay. The french fries are also desperately in need of salt, or better yet a different recipe- they are really thick, dry steak style fries, with little flavor. In an ideal situation a new chef would swoop in and take this place to the next level. There are so many amazing farms in the area and in a new era of farm to table dining there is an entire market waiting to be tapped-- I wish they would jump on it and push forward. As I said, the place is OK, but unless they get someone else in there to breathe a little life, creativity and excitement into the kinds of food as well as the quality we wont be back for a while. We had such a great time here last night. Our waitress was super helpful being able to describe every dish. Food was cooked just right: the duck and shishito peppers. Pizzas were super good - I had the sausage and goat cheese. The arugula one could have done with something extra. We were looking for an authentic New England restaurant and came across the spinning wheel. The restaurant is full of history. It has changed hands several times and the current family operating the restaurant knows exactly what it means to provide a great dining experience for their guests. We dined by the original, wood burning fireplace dating back to the 1800s. The layout of the restaurant is extremely comfortable having several rooms to choose for dining. They don't overcrowd their space with tables on top of one another like most restaurants do. The food was exceptional and extremely fresh made with only the best and freshest quality ingredients. Menu is reasonably priced considering it's located in rural Redding, definitely on par with far more expensive restaurants in Fairfield county. If you're local to the area or just passing through I'd highly recommend dining at the Spinning Wheel. Causal, laid back yet classy at the same time! read more

We had an amazing dinner on Saturday night. My boyfriend's pork chop was cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. I had the special pizza - white pizza with ricotta, arugula and a balsamic reduction... it was so good! The crust was delicious. Attended the holiday luncheon show Dec.4th and was very disappointed by both cold food and corny show. The woman singing was fairly good but emcee was so bad he had to read his corny insulting to our intelligence jokes. Overall bad experience. We've dined at the Spinning Wheel twice since they opened, once in the dining room and once in the bar room. Whether ordering comfort food like the chicken pot pie or meatloaf, or a fine dining experience like a steak, both were equally enjoyable. When you go don't miss the Cannonball and Minuteman appetizers. They did a beautiful job with the renovation, it is a very cozy dining experience. We have been many times over the past several years. After a recent visit we decided that even though the food was good, the wait was not worth it. I don't think it is the servers fault, but getting served takes a long time. Also there seem to be an abundance of hostesses but they still wont search you if there are empty tables. Finally, on our last visit we were distracted by two little children ( under 5) who were walking around without parent supervision. Twice a saw servers almost walk into them. I later learned they were the owners children. I don't like it when customers let their children do that in restaurants. I really don't like it when owners do. read more

We went at the recommendation of a friend and really enjoyed it! The dining rooms are all warm and welcoming with a great colonial feel. We asked for a nice warm table (it was February) and got a table near a huge fireplace with a fire blazing away. There was a really nice vibe in the bar area and in the dining area - everyone enjoying themselves but it never got loud or deafening. Friendly enthusiastic staff. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie and had a 'Ratatouille-moment' -- the taste brought me back to my Mom's awesome beef stew when I was a kid. My wife ordered the Salmon which was also great. My wife is gluten sensitive and their menu indicates which dishes are gluten-free. Dessert (banana bread with ice cream for me and gluten-free chocolate brownie for my wife) were amazing.
