Lauren is an angel! We were looking for someone to handle our dog during our wedding and came across The Sporty Dog. While there are several different services in Austin, some of them were going to cost more than our cake, for a single hour of help! Lauren's price were fair, competitive, and SO worth it! She was so easy to work with, and was happy to accommodate our Covid-cancelled wedding date, and reschedule us without an issue! She arrived promptly on time, and snuck in without a peep. She was dressed perfectly, and got right to playing with our pup, and making sure he was entertained. She was right there within arms reach during all of the pictures, and was happy to make silly sounds at him in front of all of guests, to get the perfect picture! When he photobombed a family portrait by sprawling out across my train she was right there, getting all of the candid photos and whisking him away with distractions of snacks once everyone got a good laugh. When it came time for the ceremony, she quickly made sure he got a potty break, cleaned up after him and fluffed him back out to perfection. She felt like a member of the wedding party to us, and we could not be more grateful or appreciative. She was able to visit the house before we scheduled anything so she could meet our dogs and we could talk to her about each dogs personality and special needs. Upon first visit the dogs really took to her and it was obvious she cared a lot about animals. I have really high expectations when it comes to communication and Lauren's communication is exceptional. She's so responsive to questions and requests, and when she visits the dogs I get a full report on who pottied, peed, drank, ate. The Sporty Dog is under new management (Lori sold the company) and, after hiring Lauren, the new owner, on 2 occasions, I have to say I am disappointed. I hired Lauren/Sporty Dog to walk my 4 dogs while my husband and I took two separate trips. One trip was 4 days long and the other nearly 10 days. During both trips I had a housesitter in our home who is a personal friend of mine. Prior to our most recent 10 day trip I sent Lauren a list of days and times that we needed the dogs walked and/or fed. She agreed to the schedule. About a week before the trip she emailed me that she was having some cash flow issues and asked that I mail her a check in advance rather than leaving her a check at the house as we normally would. I was a little uncomfortable with that but I agreed to do so and sent her a check for $380 for 19 visits. She sent me an email assuring me that she appreciated the advance payment and that she would take great care of our dogs. Upon our return from the trip my friend who had been housesitting for us gave me some feedback about Lauren/Sporty Dog. First of all she told me that Lauren had only walked the dogs 18 times rather than the 19 I paid for and secondly she told me that Lauren seemed to be put out at the "long drive" to our house. She further said that one day she arrived home early and when Lauren arrived to walk the dogs Lauren told her that she should call her if she was going to be there so she wouldn't have to drive to our house and take the dogs out. ??? I waited a couple of days and called Lauren to discuss the issues. She said it was a misunderstanding and that my friend had told her she didn't have to show up for one of the times because she was going to be at our house. I said, "I paid for 19 visits though and only got 18". She said she would, "give me a free walk next time" and I said, "but its not free since I paid for it". I didn't push her on the $20 and figured maybe we might use her services again and give her one last chance. However, after thinking about it, I sent Lauren an email explaining that I would like the $20 refunded because we have no trips planned and won't need her services any time in the near future. She didn't return my email. Instead she contacted my friend, the one who had been our housesitter, and asked her to call me and tell me that she told Lauren that she didn't have to come for one visit and therefore she didn't owe me the $20. What? I sent Lauren an email explaining that it was inappropriate to contact my friend the way she did and that it didn't matter if my friend told her she didn't have to come at one particular time. It was her responsibility to either make arrangements to make up the visit or to refund the money. But in any case I shouldn't have had to hear from our housesitter that Lauren had only given 18 walks instead of the 19 she had been paid for. I asked that she refund my money and return my key. Today I received the key in the mail and $10 (instead of the $20 I am owed) because Lauren decided to deduct $10 as a "key return fee" which was something I have never heard of and which isn't mentioned on her website. This whole thing just seems shady to me. As far as I know she walked our dogs 18 times but I no longer trust her integrity and honesty. Nor do I care for the way she conducts her business. The $20 isn't really that important...it's the way she handled things that is problematic to me. I hope she learns from this situation and treats other customers better than she treated us. read more
