The bar is nice and close, it's small but has a family vibe where it's not too packed but you can still have a good time. I really like coming here to drink and enjoy music. I haven't tried the food with my couple of visits though. I should cause it do be smelling good. The staff, to include security, is very nice. I was on vacation from Buffalo, New York and this was one of the few places still open during the pandemic because it is not only a bar, but also a restaurant, and places where food accounts for 51% or more of their total sales are allowed to remain open. This was clearly a local establishment and even though it's on Highway 195 you can tell they don't get a lot of passersby. Definitely a favorite spot for locals. We came on a Saturday and when we arrived there was a group of 1%ers (bikers) hanging around the front entrance and several motorcycles were visible in the parking lot. I looked at my friend as if to say what kind of a place is this?? But the bikers didn't look like they were causing any trouble so we felt comfortable enough to go in and check it out. And I'm glad we did. It took a few minutes to be served because only one person is allowed to go up to the bar at a time. We were standing there and it felt like a few of the bikers cut in front of us but we weren't sure if they were regulars, and we were the outsiders in this situation so we didn't wanna say anything. But then one of the men looked at us, smiled, and motioned that we were next. The bartender was very friendly and we I figured that since it had taken a few minutes to get up to the bar we might as well order everything we were going to need so we ordered a few shots, a beer for my friend, a mixed drink for me, and two orders of tacos. Then we went out back and sat on the patio. There were three seating areas outside. Two had actual tables, I like the wooden picnic table kind, and one area had nice patio furniture set around a coffee table type of table. There was nobody sitting in the patio furniture area so that's where we headed. The seating was clean and very comfortable. Within a few minutes other people came and sat on the other couches in a little area we were in and we struck up conversations. It's Texas, so everyone was very friendly. Within the first 30 minutes of being there many of the bikers had left and the people remaining just seemed like regular people. Maybe this wasn't a "biker bar" after all. At one point a man came and sat by us, introduced himself as Leo, and told us he was the DJ and would be going on shortly. We shared some small talk about where we were all from and then he went back inside. When The music started it was piped outside and it was a very decent volume. Loud enough so that individual people could have private conversations, but not so loud that you couldn't talk. When certain songs came on lots of people were getting up and line-dancing (everyone was wearing masks) in the area that had picnic tables around the edges. There was a space in the middle, maybe 10'x20', for people to dance on the concrete. We did The Wobble, the Cupid Shuffle, and a little while later I went inside to the DJ and requested Copperhead Road and since nobody was familiar with that line dance, I taught a group of people, including the owner who had joined the rest of us on the dance floor. It was a blast. Only one negative experience during the whole visit, a drunk guy took offense to something he overheard my friend and I talking about. But honestly it seemed like he was looking for something to be offended by because he didn't seem to want to let it go but he eventually did. But that happens sometimes in bars when people are drinking and it shouldn't be held against the establishment. I definitely got the feeling that nobody was gonna let him do anything to me and at no time did I ever feel unsafe. I will definitely return the next time I'm in town. I can't wait to bring my husband here. He would love it. read more

I'm on the fence about The Spot. We used to frequent this place back in 2016 when it was The Chill Grill. It was a cool neighborhood dive bar with great food and drinks. We went in on Tuesday, 15 February 2022 the place was busy, customers at the bar were welcoming and friendly. The bartender was not. The only name I have is from the ticket Jasbeth Escobar. She reluctantly took our drink order, did not engage us in conversation, and never asked if we wanted to order food or offered a menu. No bueno, we are both drinkers and eaters. We left after one drink. We went to Menos for dinner. I have no photos to share since we were in and out pretty quickly. A shame since we live within walking distance. read more

I wasn't going to post this, but I'm up at The Spot, waiting for my check. Along with 3 other employees! Shalonda Smith the fact that it's 6pm on payday and you literally left without paying us! So here's just a snippet of what's been going on at The Spot... This is gonna be a long one but yall need to hear this! Shalonda Smith who "owns" The Spot Bar and Restaurant in Killeen has no clue how to run a successful business. She sits at that bar all day long everyday and gets belligerent drunk. She forces her employees to over serve her, and if they try to tell her no, she will fire them. She treats her customers terribly, and her employees even worse. When she is paranoid or has done something wrong, she deletes the camera footage so she won't be held responsible. When it comes to pay day, there is always an excuse. Her employees have to beg for their checks (well actually cash because all her checks bounce)!! She picks and chooses who she pays and when. If she thinks you've been slacking, she won't pay you for days, even a week sometimes after payday. When she does pay, she takes money out of your pay for "taxes" and then keeps it for herself. Employees can't even get a paystub, so how are we able to prove our employment!? She has recently gone cash only. She is saying that the POS won't run credit cards and it will "hopefully be fixed soon" when in reality she is wanting to be able to pocket all the cash and not have to wait for the money to be released to her. She constantly claims she has no money for herself, but she constantly has a pocket full of cash. THE BARS CASH, not her own! Her favorite bar is McDermotts in Killeen. She goes everyday, gets wasted and then come to her bar and drinks for the rest of the night. She come back behind the bar and takes everything from the safe. She doesn't put anything in a deposit bag, she puts it directly into her pocket. No receipts, or sales reports just the cash. She owes so many vendors money that she has been outsourcing for liqour, beer, and food. In 7/6, during a going away party, we had run out of liqour so she sent a CUSTOMER to the store to buy handles of liqour. She then came back behind the bar and yelled at me for throwing away our liqour bottles that have TABC stickers because she wanted to pour the handles into them so of TABC comes in, they think we got them from our vendor. That is illegal and there is no way I will risk my liscence for her. She also owes $96,000 to the IRS for past taxes because she was audited and they found major discrepancies. On 7/6/24, she SPIT on a regular customer!! Called her names and then SPIT on her!! She is out of control and needs help! Many people left because of the drama, which means the bar lost money! I love that bar, the customers, and the employees but I can never work for a human being like that ever again! She is an animal that is so out of control! That business will never be successful with an owner like her. Great outdoor space, which in and of itself is worth at least 3 stars. The owner and staff are lovely, too. I've been wanting to check this place out after driving by it many times, and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back. read more

I'm in the area for work and afterward stopped in yesterday. I thought it was busy but a cool chick in a cowboys jersey said to come on back in, that they would make me a spot. That alone was a kind gesture but later she came to hang out because I was alone. Turns out she owns the place! Later we did karaoke to Jay Z and she bought me some drinks just because she's that dope. And guess what.. I am back again and getting the same kind of respect/hospitality from her and her staff. As a bartender I never once asked if I want a salted rim on a Dos XX but they always do. That's premium service. Straight up. So glad that she brought me back in yesterday.
