The food here was good, but certainly overpriced for what you get. I had the cheeseburger, french fries and a Pepsi. The cheeseburger goes for $4.80, the small french fries for $2.25 and the medium Pepsi for $2.50. You can get a much better burger for half the price at any In-N-Out. Although I thought the burger was only ordinary, I would say the french fries were superb - nice and golden brown. I'm torn between 3 or 4 stars here but the location and history of the place merits the extra star. I had a double burger no cheese. The beef tasted fresh but a better char and some salt and pepper would help. Toppings were fresh too. The small order of fries were hot, tasty and plentiful. Great spot (pun intended) right by the beach. Great onion rings, chowder, and milkshakes. Ok chili cheese dog and chili cheese burger (would recommend to hold the mustard next time). This is a classic little burger joint with reasonable prices and pretty quick service for the amount of people that ordered around the same time I did. If you don't eat meat, they have bean & cheese and beans, rice and cheese burritos, grilled cheese sandwich, garden burger, and chile relleno as a side order. We got the beans, rice and cheese burritos and took them across the street to the grass of Carpinteria State Park. They were pretty good! Nothing fancy and the cheese wasn't fully melted, but they were easy to eat without making a huge mess and hit the spot. If we're passing by again, I want to try the shakes. read more

Stopped for take-out on the way south. Called ahead and placed an order easily over the phone. Got a parking spot in front, so pick up was a breeze. Husband got fish and chips and I got bacon cheeseburger and fries. He has a chocolate shake and I had a chocolate chip one. First off, they packaged it in easy to hold in your lap in the car cardboard trays. The fish and chips came in a cool brown box and my burger came in a bigger tray. The fries are excellent, we both agreed. Bigger than shoestring, but crispy like a shoestring and golden yellow! He thought his fish was good, but wasn't sure whether fresh or frozen. My burger was wrapped and bagged to eat without spilling the sauce everywhere. Thank you for that! The bacon was thick and plentiful. Overall, a solidly good burger and I would get one again. Both shakes were thick and creamy. The chocolate chip tasted just like vanilla. Never noticed any chips, by taste or visually. Something was wrong with my lid or straw, because every time I drank from it, globs of shake went on my shirt. We pulled off in Ventura and I threw half the shake away, since I had already wrecked my shirt and couldn't figure out where the hole was. Hubby pounded his shake down and had no probs. read more

I was really excited to come to this place. From the hotel was a nice walk a little over a mile, beautiful walk through the nice neighborhoods in Carp, passed the train station and there's a little community garden but didn't quite make it there since it closed by the time we were done eating. The restaurant is near the beach and looks like a camp area/park. There's a brewery nearby that had a reggae band playing. Anyway, about the the burger spot - I wouldn't say the prices are too high, the food was tasty. Burgers are In-n-Out style although I think In-n-Out takes their style from classic burger joints. They have fish n chips and chowder which is nice. However, I posted a picture of the chowder. The flavor was good however the consistency was that of mayonnaise with chunks of potato and celery in it. Also - as you can see from the cup, and I ordered a cup of chowder for $7, there was plenty of room in the cup for more chowder guys.... Burger was really good. We spend $35 for two people and ate every bite - not too bad. read more

This burger place is an icon in Carpinteria. Use to be my favorite place to eat when I lived here some 20yrs ago. One of the greatest things about this place (outside of the burger) was the customer service....which seems to longer exist. Welcoming customers with a simple welcome, or hello is Golden. I didn't get any of this. Maybe it was the fact that I had on my San Marcos HS sweatshirt--or they don't greet their customers who come to spend their hard earned money at the establishment. My first time exploring Carpinteria. I had stopped at Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve and was enjoying the beautiful views and relaxing atmosphere. I started to get hungry and a lady was walking past and said "hello." I explained that I was familiar with Santa Barbara, Montecito & Summerland but I knew practically nothing about Carpinteria. I asked if she could recommend a good place for lunch. She went over a few places and then said "everyone seems to enjoy The Spot. Go there for a burger & a shake and then take a walk on the beach." I followed her directions and found street parking easily on Linden Ave. I took a nice walk and enjoyed a bit of window shopping. The Spot is cash only, however they do have an ATM on their patio. Order at the counter, pick up on the side. It wasn't busy and that was quick & easy for me. I had a chili cheeseburger, onion rings and a Pepsi. Mmmmmmm. It was delicious. I enjoyed sitting on the patio watching people walk by on the sidewalk. There is a nice park across the street and I found the setting relaxing. Honestly, I'd give the food 4 stars. I heard great things about this place, so I thought I'd give it a try. As other reviewers have stated, this is a CASH ONLY establishment. There is an ATM on premise, so there is that option if you need it. We ordered a double cheeseburger, an order of shrimp & chips, 1 small drink, and 1 medium drunk. Our total came up to just under $20, so it wasn't too pricey. The burger was simple, but delicious. My friend described it almost like a backyard bbq burger with its simplicity, but it was juicy with the right balance of tomato, lettuce & a slice of American cheese. The shrimp and chips were nothing to write home about. The breaded shrimp was like something you could find at Sizzler - average to small in size, and a little too crunchy. The fries were plentiful, so that was nice as the burger did not come with fries. This item came with one container each of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Extra sauces will cost you an additional .50 each. The two outdoor deck seating was clean and covered with table umbrellas. There appeared to be an indoor area as well, but it looked closed off. Behind the building, they offer their own dirt parking lot with ample space for about 15 cars. They also offer one unisex bathroom. Overall, my experience was pleasant. First time coming to The Spot. The milk shakes are as good as advertised. You can see them scooping the ice cream out of the large ice cream tubs. The burger was made well. On both of our burgers the bottom bun was really crunchy. Don't know what they did to it but it was strange. Loved the fresh crunchy iceberg lettuce. Reminds me of home when I was a kid. The fries were good, but boy a small is definitely a small. My bag, which we got to go, maybe had only 10 fries in the bag. Not worth the money I paid for it. Great location and rustic stand. The stand out negative was the service. I get it, the kids working up front are young and it was the end of probably a busy Saturday. Not a glamorous job. But I am not the enemy. I even told the young girl we were first time customers. She just asked if we were ready to order. When we got our order we were short one drink and I paid for the two. When I told the different girl who was putting the order together, she gave me a look like I was trying to steal a bag of food from her or something. Then when I asked for a couple of spoons she gave another look of annoyance. I still said please and thank you but she never reciprocated. I was tired too but I didn't take my day out on them. Just had THE BEST lunch at The Spot. I grew up in Carp so I've been coming here since I was a kid and it never disappoints!! My boyfriend and I always get the same thing and share: Cheeseburger with guac is obviously perfect (and was already gone by the time I thought to take pic), Small Chili Cheese Fries (mostly devoured already), and then for the finale, a Special Quesadilla with Pastrami... I know how weird it sounds, but I've been eating these with my dad since I was kid and its SOOOOO GOOD!! I've never had anything like it anywhere else and I highly recommend!! Its also HUGE so be prepared to take some home for dinner later!! They also have signs all over that they have been warned about people not wearing masks so please, don't be a jerk to them or leave a nasty review commenting about the "pandemic" as if its nothing. They are a small, locally owned business doing their best by keeping their guests, employees, and families safe right now. The spot! Favorite place to eat when i come into town. I grew up here and moved away but come back every so often and this is a must stop. Today they received 2 stars because the service at the window was at an all time LOW!! 4:10p.m. Friday August 2, 2019 is the exact time we walked up to order our much desired food. The girl at the window was extremely rude and vulgar. She was having a conversation every chance she got. At one point she even called her coworker a "bitch" out loud as they discussed small & medium drinks. My niece and her 3 year daughter came along with me on this trip and were witness to the foul language as well. My niece was a bit inquisitive about some items on the menu. Instead of actually sitting there and listening for a couple minutes, the girl taking the order would converse with her coworkers in between answers to my niece's questions. Her answers were short and very rude!! If the food wasn't super delicious that type of behavior would be enough to keep me away. Again ALL TIME LOW!! It's almost as if they know we all(customers) come back for the food so they can afford to be rude as much as they want. P.S., this is not the first time.
