We were visiting the area and stopped here for lunch. The reviews did not disappoint. Definitely have the crazy Bloody Mary they offer! Phenomenal with all the fixings. Service was awesome a young lady served us. The clam chowder is one of the best I have ever had and I'm from New England originally. I had the Cobb with salmon. Freshly cooked salmon on my salad! My husband had the fish and chips. He said 8 out of 10. They make their own sauce for this which was very good. It was good, but I later spotted a "Mary by the Sea" on the menu that sounded like a clear upgrade. Would have loved that to be mentioned. Easy upsell, missed opportunity. My friend got the margarita flight and was very happy. We started with the ahi nachos, then each had a cup of clam chowder and split a wedge salad. The ahi nachos were solid but felt like they were missing a little something. A hit of citrus or spice would have taken them up a notch. The clam chowder was thick and really well done with a great clam to potato ratio. The wedge was classic and fresh. A little light on the bacon, but honestly, no complaints there. I was up in SLO and I was looking for a dog friendly restaurant to have lunch at in Carpinteria on the way down the coast. I choose Teddy's by the Sea and I'm so glad I did. We showed up at 1pm on a Friday and parked in the back. They gave us a great patio seat and my little dog was happy to be sitting with us. My housemate ordered fish tacos with their amazing house made potato chips and I got the crazy good ceviche. Great little bar inside, cool vibes and amazing food. Day trip to Carpenteria. Teddy's was recommended to us by a friend as a good spot for lunch. Located on the main drag (Carpenteria Ave), it easy to find. They have a good sized private lot behind the restaurant so parking is easy. They have a nice patio behind the restaurant but they weren't serving on it when we were there so we opted for the front patio. Also lovely (see photo). Tatum, our server, was very welcoming and friendly. Service was excellent throughout. We shared the fish tacos and the wedge salad. The tacos came with a side. We went with the house made chips. Everything about Teddy's is mediocre. Bland and slow customer service. Unobservant older gal monitoring the 35% tables occupied by guests could care less about the actual customers experience and focused getting the tables cleared for the absent customers. Calamari was chewy, topped with banana peppers and served with "lemon aioli" aka straight mayonnaise. Tartar sauce was another slightly off version of pure mayonnaise. Fish and chips were OK, but super light portion of fish and off putting dipping sauces. Grilled/fried chicken sandwich saturated in mayonnaise, no garlic detected, ad quite flavorless despite arugula and red peppers. Portion was faulty underwhelming. Throw in 2 sodas and we are at $71 for a mediocre lunch at best. Best part of the restaurant is the patio. Would not return and this was our 3rd attempt. read more

Excellent! We loved this place! Right in the heart of Carpenteria, nothing fancy, excellent food! We sat on the patio with our little dog...great view of the passers by and the burger place next door was hopping! I will say that our server was a bit slow and lacked personality... we told him it was our first time here, he wasn't eager to recommend any dishes. I asked him about the seared tuna and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "ya not real popular, people order it some like it some don't." Ok? Well, things have certainly changed. Cousin in from New York, spent day at beach, hungry, Super Bowl Sunday, so nobody there lol. We order ahi nachos, make quinoa salad, and fish and chips I proceed to get the worst meal I've ever had there. Ahi not that fresh. Kale salad: inedible. It looked like a whole bag of huge pieces of tough, unchopped kale thrown in a bowl. A few pieces of Parmesan, where's the quinoa? Couldn't eat much of that. Fish and chips: warm , not hot and crispy, doughy batter, lukewarm fish. Sweet potato fries lukewarm not crispy, usually my favorite only had a few of those. Ate the fish, we were hungry. The food here is very good, not spectacularly incredible but would definitely recommend it and go again. Here's the breakdown on a couple dishes: Bacon wrapped dates: delicious and a good portion. Teddy's Tropical Ceviche: plenty of fish and tortilla chips but I tossed the giant pile of red onions that came on top. Personally I would have preferred red peppers instead like the way the Mac and cheese came, but that's just me and I'm sure they would have kept the onions off if I'd asked but I didn't know it had them. But it was really delicious nonetheless. Lobster Mac and cheese: is Langostino Lobster? No. Are they using langostinos as lobster? Yes. Would I have ordered langostino mac and cheese? Yes. Am I annoyed that they are calling langostino Mac and cheese lobster Mac and cheese? Absolutely. Was the langostino Mac and cheese good? It was excellent. Lots of langostino and delicious cheese blend. Tommy's margarita: great! Loved it. Classic margarita! Rincon margarita: smoky and gingery. Over gingered for my taste, need a balance so we can taste the other ingredients too. Mai Tai: good but kind of the same problem; all pineapple. Service was friendly, good natured and efficient. Had to switch booths as one table was super tippy. It's a smallish bar and dining area but a good sized patio. It's very casual. read more

Stopped by Teddy's in SB and had a great experience overall! The place itself is beautiful--great ambiance and a relaxing vibe, perfect for a coastal meal. I've been excited to try this place for a long time but Carp is a bit out of our way. Finally made it and I have to say I was disappointed in the food (service was great). I've had thin clam chowder, I've had thick clam chowder - I've never had this stuff, which I'd describe as clam paste. I wish I'd gotten a picture, but I could scoop it up in my spoon and hold the spoon upside down and it would just stay there. Honestly that wouldn't have been the end of the world if it hadn't been extremely bland, but it was also lacking in flavor. Tough to do for something that claims to contain bacon. My spicy honey chicken sandwich was not bad but nothing to write home about either. I wouldn't describe it as spicy, though. read more

Came here for my belated birthday celebration after a day of wine tasting in Santa Barbara. My partner & I were staying in Carpinteria and thought this restaurant would be good for dinner as it was on the way back to our hotel and seemed like a cute low-key spot with outdoor seating. We got seated outdoor with heat lamps right away, and had very attentive service. For our meals, we both had our own tacos with fries -- mine with salmon, and his with spicy cauliflower. We also shared their a board of their margarita flights that came with three types: their Rincon margarita (mezcal and ginger spin on it), Tommy's margarita (your usual kind) , and Seasonal margarita (which I think was a spicy guava kind!). Service was very fast and everything was fresh and delicious. We both finished our meals without any leftovers and feeling very full. Prices were very reasonable for a nice, casual dinner that was away from the Santa Barbara crowds. If we drove, parking wouldn't have been an issue either. I would definitely come back next time to try more seafood dishes. read more

My family and I we took a train from Ventura to Carpintera to enjoy the day. We were about a group of 10. As soon as we walked up we were greater so great , clean environment & nice host. When we got our server she wasn't too nice ... when my father was ordering his food he switched his mind and she rolled her eyes , crossed her arms and puffed. She checked in on us once. Our drinks took 14 mins to come out , and mind you there were about 4 parties when we were there. The tap water provided it tasted horrible and the ice tasted "old" and bitter. Then our food took awhile as well ... everything besides the water offered in gorgeous jugs , it was delicious. Customer service is getting out of touch with the community , I wish our server was just a bit more patient and kind - it would've made our experience significantly different. read more

Great place for a couple of drinks at sunset. Not super impressive execution of the margarita flight, though it seemed like a fun idea, nor were we blown away by the food-- except for the caesar salad dressing, which seemed freshly made and was absolutely delicious. The bacon wrapped dates were also really tasty- especially the glaze that they were in (drippings from bacon and dates, I'm guessing). I dipped the fries in that and the leftover caesar dressing! We ate at Teddys last night. The halibut piccata was beyond delicious.. Fresh with a lemon & capers cream sauce.. Hubby had the large shrimp cocktail. Again, another excellent choice. You've got to try the homemade rolls. Melt in your mouth. Ava was our server. Such a sweet girl with a beautiful smile & so knowledgeable about the menu. We will definitely go back again soon. The only thing that ruined the evening, was 2 elderly grumpy women in the next booth. They walked in with a chip on their shoulder.. Nothing was good enough.... They openly berated Ava because of a restaurant policy.... There was absolutely nothing she could do to please them. Even the manager, Lisa, tried to diffuse the situation.. But the old ladies seem to enjoy complaining about Ava.. Both husband & I told them how rude that were being.. Here on a work trip.... Not too familiar with the area, but this place is small and it seems like it would be pretty decent food. We ordered: - coconut shrimp, which I think was overcooked, BUT the chipotle sauce was really good - poke nachos, I should have known not to get poke here haha, but it was edible - baja fish tacos were really good! but it did need some more lime, luckily we had some of the chipotle sauce and used that to give it more of a kick All in all, can't go wrong with this place, but I'd like to try something different, the next time I'm in town. read more

Came here after a bike ride in Carp. I had the local halibut with broccolini. It was so incredibly overcooked that my jaw actually hurt from chewing it after awhile. It was also extremely bland. My husband had the cioppino which was also bland and the seafood in it extremely overcooked as well. So in the end we paid $100 bucks for some really overcooked flavorless seafood and a mocktail.
