I wish I could base this review on solely the strength of the warm service and the charming location (albeit not, in fact, by the sea). Alas, I need to consider the food which was a serious letdown. The Kale & Quinoa Salad would pale in comparison to a college dining hall salad bar, but with the beach town markup. There was a dearth of the listed ingredients, a vacancy filled by cabbage and carrots (neither listed). The dressing actually tasted promising but was only noticeable for approximately two bites, thanks in part to the inadequate mixing on account of poorly chopped kale. This review is admittedly harsh, but my meal at Teddy's was simply one I wish I could take back and enjoy elsewhere.

There are lots of eateries in Carpinteria, but this is definitely one of the better ones. I had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Although this place is very popular it wasn't especially crowded that day, so we were able to get immediate seating. Most of the seating is outdoors, but they do have some indoor seating should that be your preference. There are heat lamps at each table in the outdoor area, which is nice if the weather requires it. I ordered the crab cake sliders which I thought was nice and tasty. It comes with a potato chips or french fries, but I upgraded to sweet potato fries for an additional $2. I don't believe the restaurant has their own parking lot, but there is ample free street parking nearby.

Substituting shrimp for fish in the tacos. Shrimp were perfectly cooked. Also asked for aioli for the fries.

Our choice for dinner after driving from Sacramento. Server was friendly and attentive and let us substitute shrimp for the fish in the tacos. Really nice patio section. Shrimp in tacos was cooked perfectly. Would definitely come back.

Super busy restaurant. Not enough servers. Long wait time. Food=under whelming Our server was nice but there were only two servers in the whole restaurant therefore lacked attentiveness. Mac and cheese was a little watery. Ahi poke nachos were delicious and tacos were okay (forgot to take a pic )All in all it was an ok experience but wish it would've been better.

I was up in SLO and I was looking for a dog friendly restaurant to have lunch at in Carpinteria on the way down the coast. I choose Teddy's by the Sea and I'm so glad I did. We showed up at 1pm on a Friday and parked in the back. They gave us a great patio seat and my little dog was happy to be sitting with us. My housemate ordered fish tacos with their amazing house made potato chips and I got the crazy good ceviche. Great little bar inside, cool vibes and amazing food. Dog friendly didn't hurt but added to the experience. Now I have a place to eat while going up the coast!

Driving 101 north in February on a pleasant sunny day, I searched YELP for a lunch spot. I saw this restaurant with a patio and umbrellas that looked popular with locals. The place had a few parking spots behind the building. It turned out to be a good choice. The fish sandwich I ordered was delicious and filling. As other reviewer wrote, service was slow. there were only a server and a bartender but both were polite and as efficient as could be with all the outdoor tables getting filled.

We were in town for our anniversary and wanted a simple tasty lunch. The clam chowder with a side salad was perfect with large chunks of clams that were delicious and not too chewy! We enjoyed sitting outside. There were lots of options on the porch too. The wait staff was efficient and helpful. We'd definitely come back again! Thanks!

Driving back from Santa Ynez to LA, we popped into Teddy's by the Sea for a quick lunch. Seated immediately out front, and bonus points for ample parking in the back. I ordered a Bloody Mary. It was good, but I later spotted a "Mary by the Sea" on the menu that sounded like a clear upgrade. Would have loved that to be mentioned. Easy upsell, missed opportunity. My friend got the margarita flight and was very happy. We started with the ahi nachos, then each had a cup of clam chowder and split a wedge salad. The ahi nachos were solid but felt like they were missing a little something. A hit of citrus or spice would have taken them up a notch. The clam chowder was thick and really well done with a great clam to potato ratio. The wedge was classic and fresh. A little light on the bacon, but honestly, no complaints there. Service was good, the vibe was easy and comfortable, and it is absolutely a place I would stop at again on the drive.

Day trip to Carpenteria. Teddy's was recommended to us by a friend as a good spot for lunch. Located on the main drag (Carpenteria Ave), it easy to find. They have a good sized private lot behind the restaurant so parking is easy. They have a nice patio behind the restaurant but they weren't serving on it when we were there so we opted for the front patio. Also lovely (see photo). Tatum, our server, was very welcoming and friendly. Service was excellent throughout. We shared the fish tacos and the wedge salad. The tacos came with a side. We went with the house made chips. Presentation of the food was excellent. However, the taste was just OK. So ambiance and service were a 5 star, food just a 3. Overall, 4 star.

70° and filtered sun were perfect conditions to have lunch outdoors at Teddy's. Friendly server, big glasses of ice water. I ordered the salmon tacos and Pamela ordered the clams linguini. Three waitstaff brought out all our food simultaneously. Both our meals were delivered HOT and the salmon in my tacos was generously proportioned and cooked perfectly. Lunch for around $20 per plate. Definitely glad we stopped in!

Excellent! We loved this place! Right in the heart of Carpenteria, nothing fancy, excellent food! We sat on the patio with our little dog...great view of the passers by and the burger place next door was hopping! I will say that our server was a bit slow and lacked personality... we told him it was our first time here, he wasn't eager to recommend any dishes. I asked him about the seared tuna and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "ya not real popular, people order it some like it some don't." Ok? I asked what kind of vegetables were in this dish and he said he didn't really know ok? I'm sorry? But do you work here? I went ahead and ordered the seared tuna with their yummy rice and veggies and it was awesome! My husband loved his fish tacos and oysters! I would definitely eat here again and recommend giving them a try!

    Kids' Fish and Chips

The lobster Mac and cheese was delish. The clam chowder and the linguine with clams were also top. The kids' menu fish (crisp) and chips (tender) were just right. The environment is snug, with several windows facing carpintería ave. The attitude was cool, a little rude, hence the 4 stars. Wish it weren't so but to tell a 9 year old to "don't be sorry, be better" when she asked for an extra fork - face palm.

    Teddy's Tropical ceviche
    Adrianna A.

The food here is very good, not spectacularly incredible but would definitely recommend it and go again. Here's the breakdown on a couple dishes: Bacon wrapped dates: delicious and a good portion. Teddy's Tropical Ceviche: plenty of fish and tortilla chips but I tossed the giant pile of red onions that came on top. Personally I would have preferred red peppers instead like the way the Mac and cheese came, but that's just me and I'm sure they would have kept the onions off if I'd asked but I didn't know it had them. But it was really delicious nonetheless. Lobster Mac and cheese: is Langostino Lobster? No. Are they using langostinos as lobster? Yes. Would I have ordered langostino mac and cheese? Yes. Am I annoyed that they are calling langostino Mac and cheese lobster Mac and cheese? Absolutely. Was the langostino Mac and cheese good? It was excellent. Lots of langostino and delicious cheese blend. Tommy's margarita: great! Loved it. Classic margarita! Rincon margarita: smoky and gingery. Over gingered for my taste, need a balance so we can taste the other ingredients too. Mai Tai: good but kind of the same problem; all pineapple. Service was friendly, good natured and efficient. Had to switch booths as one table was super tippy. It's a smallish bar and dining area but a good sized patio. It's very casual.

We always make a stop here for lunch when we're driving home after spending time exploring towns up the coast. We absolutely love the atmosphere. There's a sand pit for the kids to play in, picnic tables throughout the yard, and just over the fence you have a beautiful view of the ocean. I never realized until today that there's also a train track on the other side of the fence -- I definitely jumped when a train came by blowing its horn! I decided to try something new from their Specials list -- the buffalo chicken sandwich. I'm a picky eater, so I gave my order to my husband while I waited in the long bathroom line (worth mentioning because this place gets busy!). He added cheddar cheese to my sandwich, i didn't think about telling him blue cheese would be best BUT when I picked up our order, i asked for a side of blue cheese crumbles. As a cheese lover, I loved it! My husband has a dairy allergy, so he asked if the onion rings contained dairy. The person at the register took the time to check with the kitchen, and we appreciated that. Unfortunately, they are made with buttermilk, so he went with French fries instead -- which are always his weakness. He really enjoyed his mahi mahi sandwich, although the fries could have been hotter. We will definitely continue stopping here whenever we're in the area. It's also a great spot for gatherings or parties with the outdoor space and relaxed beach atmosphere. Reasonable prices! Highly recommend!

It created such a relaxing atmosphere for lunch. It was my wife's and mother's first visit, and they both really enjoyed the ambiance. Honestly, the atmosphere made the food taste even better. We ordered the risotto with added chicken, along with mussels and a few other dishes. The risotto was creamy without feeling too heavy, and adding chicken made it much more satisfying. The only slight disappointment was the mussels. They were much smaller than expected -- probably not in season -- and there was barely any meat inside Still, the overall experience, atmosphere, and quality time with family made it a very enjoyable lunch.
