Audrey Moore Rec Center is a Fairfax County facility and it is an older facility but they have everything you could ever think of. Outside, there is baseball & softball fields, basketball courts, soccer fields (turf) a skate park, & several walking or biking trails. Inside, they have a full-size swimming pool & diving well with both spring boards and platforms, there are racquetball courts, a gym, and studios for all kinds of classes like yoga, as well as a physical therapy office through INOVA. I have been here many times for my son's soccer & swim team practice as well as just coming to play and have fun. Personally, I have been here for yoga classes as well as PT including aquatic PT. You can purchase a class pass or pay a one day fee or you sign up for a wide variety of classes offered year round. On Wednesdays they have a local farmers market out in the parking lot. They also have county recycling bins, which I have used recently for glass. Note: as expected there's a heavy chlorine smell in the pool area so if you're sensitive before warned. read more

I used the fitness center which has a nice selection of machines and weights. They keep the place quite clean. One of the ladies supporting the cleaning including the filling of the wipes stands is particularly nice and polite. She salutes everyone. The front desk also has very good young people. This is a filthy facility and it has been reported to the Fairfax County Health Department. 3rd world conditions abound such as poop in the shower, theft issues (as mentioned before) AND 7-year old boys in the women's locker room. Sound fun? Yeah, me neither. Rather than use a toilet, some patrons apparently just use the shower. Rather than wait for a family change room, some patrons bring their school age boys into a private space that is meant for women and little girls. To top it off, management will blame the messenger if you complain, adding insult to injury. Highly dysfunctional and poorly managed. read more

This is the closest Rec Center to my house. I go out of convenience. It is always packed for a reason - so many amenities! It looks a little worn around the edges, but everything works. I swim laps in the pool and rarely have to wait for a lane. read more

It's a county facility, so you're not going to get high end weight lifting equipment. On a plus note, nice treadmills. My apologies on not knowing what to call them, but the ones with the serrated like floor are solid. The pool and basketball courts are the best feature. Laps as we all know, are the top exercise of all. A friendly staff too! It definitely could use some newer equipment. The $10 per adult county rate, is I have to say a bit expensive. They do have plans though, and for my son it was only $6.50. That's better and to the facility's credit, there are a lot of activities here. They have a skate park and a nearby trail. This is my local REC center and good thing it's a nice one! Outdoor features include a skate park, 2 separate playgrounds (although walking between the two especially with kiddos is not ideal), baseball fields, and hiking trails That make you forget you're in suburbia. Inside, there is a fitness center, squash courts, and, of course, a pool. The pool is no-frills, but there is open swim at reasonable hours and prices. Unique to this center is a pottery room where you can sign up for an individual session. The cost is a little high IMO but it is cool to have this unique feature available to the public. read more

What a great Rec Center. The pool is top shelf. The center has lots of activity and exercise choices. It is also very accessible and has much to offer those who need ADA type accommodations. I went for a swim meet to watch my son. They have ADA seating that is awesome and the staff is so helpful. They make you glad that you asked. Really good service. read more

What used to be called Wakefield Park Recreation Center is now known as the Audrey Moore RECenter. This listing encompasses the entire park-not just the rec center. There is also much more to this park than initially meets the eye. Inside the rec center you will find pools, squash courts, indoor basketball and volleyball, and lots of group fitness classes. Around the center there are tennis courts, soccer fields, outside basketball hoops, a skate park (which has it's own yelp listing), a farmer's market (Wednesdays, May 7-October 29; 2 p.m.-6 p.m.), and if you keep exploring outward, you will find a huge system of bike/walking/jogging trails. I can't believe I never wrote a review for Audrey Moore. I've been coming here weekly for tennis lessons, for over a year. Morning tennis instructor, Kirt Chase, is brilliant, he always comes up with the best drills. There is a lovely big pool here, which I haven't used, and a good sized gym. And every year, a huge holiday craft fair. But I come here for the tennis. read more

I enjoy taking dance classes at this facility - the staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful. Plus it is conveniently located right of the beltway. Audrey Moore RECenter at Wakefield Park is approximately 76,000 square feet in size and houses a 50m x 25yd pool, one 3m and two 1m diving boards, and Super Slide. The natatorium also contains spectator seating, doors that lead to a spacious outdoor sundeck, and locker rooms containing saunas and showers. In addition to the various racquetball/wallyball, and squash courts, the center has a large gymnasium with six basketball hoops, and volleyball nets. The center also contains a cycle studio, a dance room, a pottery lab and kiln, an arts and crafts room, three multi-purpose activity rooms, and a senior center. The facility also offers fitness class and you can find a Farmers Market there. Large pool and decent weight room, lots of well-maintained outdoor basketball courts with nets, and a nice turf outdoor soccer field with goals/nets. All of which are well-lit at night, with bright lights. It's hard to explain but the place has a lot of charm, good air quality, and it gets you in the mood to workout. Updating this review and really wishing there was a way to give a zero star rating... Reluctantly, I signed my daughter up for the 2-3 Year Old Dance class here. We waited until the last minute and it was the only dance class available that fit our schedule. The first day of the class, I was contacted and asked if I could switch to another section due to under-enrollment. This was literally hours before our scheduled class and I couldn't adjust my schedule. The rude staff member that spoke with me told me I couldn't get a refund for the missed class. I had to call back and speak to a supervisor to get a refund for the class. The first teacher arrived 30 minutes late for a 45 minute class. She seemed completely unaware of reasonable expectations for children in this age range. The next week we had a new (and better teacher). They cancelled the last class because our teacher told us she had to go back to college. I consistently have poor experiences at this rec center. read more

We have been taking children enrichment classes here for years through parktakes. Most of times the classes are just okay. However, our most recent 2 classes were so bad that we dropped both 2-3 classes into the session. I'd recommend hiring better instructors who are more reliable, responsible and understand children read more

Do not bother coming here for open swim. This facility overbooks classes to the point where open swimmers are condemned to a postage stamp sized part of the pool. The worst part is that they reserve lanes even when the classes are not meeting. As I watch right now, there are 50+ kids crammed shoulder to shoulder into a tiny area of the shallow end, while the remainder of the pool (90% or more) is taken up with classes. Some of those class-lanes are not used. But the guards and mgmt still shoo open swimmers away from those unused lanes. Smh. Poor mgmt of public resources. read more

antiquated facility,...needs renovation but has everything you need! we use the outdoor basketball courts often and they have a Xgames type skate park that is always full and popular. Outdoor courts also have lights for playing after dark which is awesome! They have a huge pool and high dive and indoor basketball courts , with 6 baskets, and bleachers, I believe. read more

Audrey Moore RECenter in Annandale, VA is part of Wakefield Park in Fairfax County's Park Authority. The RECenter has an olympic-sized indoor swimming pool which is very popular in the off-season, as well as various racquetball/wallyball, and squash courts. The RECenter also has a large gymnasium with six basketball hoops and volleyball nets, a cycle studio, a dance room, a pottery lab and kiln, an arts and crafts room, three multi-purpose activity rooms, and a senior center. Wakefield Park is conveniently located near the Washington Beltway (I-495) off Braddock Road westbound from the I-495 exit#__ within an Annandale community known as "Wakefield" which gains its name from Wakefield Chapel, an 1899-built Methodist church that is now owned by Fairfax County's Park Authority. Wakefield Park lies within the Accotink Creek watershed, which itself is currently undergoing the installation of various in-stream structures, a pedestrian bridge and pipe culverts, as well as stabilization of the stream banks and channel within the park. The project is necessary to deal with increasing water runoff from impervious surfaces, such as rooftops, asphalt roads and concrete, which have replaced the trees, shrubs, groundcover and soil that had helped to retain and filter storm water in the countys second largest watershed. I went to the center for a swim clinic. The facility is decent with ample parking. Swimming pool is impressive, but no swimsuit dryer in locker room. All customer lockers require quarter coins to operate. It is nice if you live close by for workout, but not worth traveling long distance for visiting. read more

I'm specifically rating the trails around the rec center. I ran a total of 4 miles but needed to make multiple loops around each parking lot which wasn't the safest alternative. I thought the trails connected to the larger trail along Rte. 495 but lack of signage made it impossible to find the connecting trails. The paths around the soccer field are great but the layout of the entire facility shows a severe lack of attention to one cohesive running trail. read more

The pool is huge and great for workouts, at least when the teams aren't practicing there. The fitness room is decent. Can't comment on the courts or the classes, except to say that there are a TON of classes offered. Prices aren't exactly cheap, especially single entries, although a monthly pass for residents isn't horrible. You can probably get a better deal at a much nicer health club for less money if you're interested in just a fitness room, weights, and lap pool. If you need deeper water for diving or water jogging, you'll need a pool like this one. Locker room facilities are basic, but there are plenty of showers and a sauna. For some reason, the geriatrics who frequent the men's locker room love to parade around naked for long periods of time and don't seem to understand that the shower curtain is there to keep water off the floor, and to prevent our having to see them wash their giblets. Seems a little worse here than in the typical locker room. Can't blame the facility for the exhibitionist geezers, I guess, but you'll want to be prepared for them. Bring some eyewash. The park has a lot of good trails for running and cycling. We're spoiled in Virginia, having mountain trails only an hour and a half away, but for just outside the beltway, what do you expect? You get a good trail selection and not much traffic. You can use this network to get to the cross county connector and go as far as Fairfax with only 3 traffic crossings, or much further down toward Burke with no traffic at all, and a great rest stop along the way at Accotink Park. read more

I signed my kids for giggles and wiggles and gymnastics, well it happens that the same teacher runs both classes. She is not energetic at all, not kind, sometimes she can be rude to kids. At the beginning she said she had been doing the same classes for 20 years. Well, I think she is too old and that's why doesn't show mucho interest on how she treats the kids. I am very disappointed how she has certain preferences for "white" kids over Asian and hispanics. Not taking a class of any sort here ever again! read more

I've been a member there for over 10 years and finally have had enough of this place concerning the weights room!!! Over the years I've had to reschedule my workout time to avoid multiple aggravations. Mornings 9am-12pm are geriatric visiting hours. Patrons routinely sit at the weight machines and visit with their friends, doing not but talking. Evenings are better but still patrons will monopolize the machines and check their social media posts for 15 minutes or longer between reps. But far worse is the open political rancor emanating from the patrons. Several are so vocal the whole room can hear them!!! I go to a gym to relax not to be intimidated, marginalized or further aggravated!!! But this problem is encouraged by the manager's policy of having one of the TV monitors tuned to an openly biased political commentary station!!! Same station 10 years running from opening to closing. And in the last few years patrons have become more vocal and venomous! Granted, the parks commissioner has a policy of tuning monitors to one of three news stations or sports stations, but rarely is this same monitor tuned to anything but this same station and NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! tuned to one of the other news options!!! I have asked the staff to change it to another station --- just change it to sports!!! --- and they've refused!!!! This is open bias on display!! May the manager and staff minions get FIRED!!! If you don't use the basketball or tennis courts AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Use South Run instead. Newer facilities and all monitors are tuned to sports stations. Or better yet save yourself half the cost of yearly membership by joining another sports facility. read more

Facility is alright... Theft is an issue! My son went swimming for half an hour and someone stole his new shoes from the bench during that time. Also, while at a summer camp and a different instance, someone went into his back pack while he was playing and took everything including his swimming gear?! read more

A disappointment for the basketball player. The outdoor courts have the typical stiff rims, which ruin basketball. They resurfaced these courts and now the baskets are lower than 10 feet. The indoor court is often closed due to non basketball activities. The floor is usually filthy. The roof leaks, leaving water on the court after hard rains. read more

This is my favorite rec center throughout time. Friendly service, plenty of space. Lots of classes and a very large pool. Machines galore in the weight room. Locker room is adequate and I've never had to wait for anything here. read more

I am rating this for the trails ONLY (the facility interior itself does not deserve anything above three stars if that because the cardio equipment is garage sale quality and the locker rooms are down right nasty with zero space and lots of boys wayyy too old to be in the women's locker room running around pointing out the naked parts of the women to their giggling mommas). The running trails are great and require no parking lot looping or any kind of looping to get in a nice long run. You just need to get on the trails at the right spot - which is over behind the tennis courts. Once on the trails, there are signs and you can easily run 13 miles without any looping (I have done it) which includes a run past the little lake made by the damn where you can stop to get a drink of water, then keep going to more trail running. read more

If your child is taking tennis here be sure to avoid Joseph Carruth. He was 15 mins late for our class and was angry when he arrived. He didn't identify himself as coach just walked right passed us. He brought his grand daughter to class with him and explained she was out of school and she would be playing with the class. No problem right? School was closed due to inclement weather and so I brought my 6 yr old to class with my 4 yr old who is enrolled. The coach said my 6 yr old was a distraction by playing on the vacant side of the court. I removed him closer to the entrance away from class and my son was bouncing a small tennis ball, no distraction no big deal right? Nope the coach just wanted to find a reason to cancel class since he was already late. Considering the fact he brought his 5 yr granddaughter to class and had her run drills with the tennis class although she isn't enrolled, but my son is the distraction? He rudely announced I needed to "remove" my son. I told him I could not remove my 6yr old. He canceled class, kids only played 10 mins since he was already late. He wasted an entire class time and parent's time. Rude and arrogant behavior should not be overlooked because you are USTA certified. I contacted the program director on site and am getting no direct answers about the coach being allowed to bring his granddaughter to play tennis with the class while he complained about my son playing to himself away from the class. Apparently, there are special exceptions for staff. Just wrong. read more

After speaking with the manager at Hidden Pond, a park we visit a lot, they suggested we might want to visit the Camp Fair which was taking place this Saturday, March 10. My family and i were very impressed with the offerings displayed by the various parks, and upon arriving, were given a lot of help by a Mr. Keith Connors?, of Burke Lake Park, who guided us to several parks based on interests we mentioned. He was a great help to us, and we definitely like Burke Lake, so we were glad to meet the person who runs it. Anyhow, thank you Audrey Moore Rec. Center for hosting this, and a shout out to some of the park sites who impressed our family, the live animals(loved that colorful Milk Snake!) at the Hidden Pond display, and their unique camp offerings, ditto for Hidden Oaks, and the tadpoles they had out on display were a hit with my little one, Green Spring and Rosie, her puppy and the South Run Rec center was another. All the parks had such a great offering, our family loves plants and animals so we recalled the sites with a focus on those, but all the displays were great. It is a great county to live in-thank you FCPA for putting such great program offerings together. read more
