My friends invited to this Rec center to play walleyball. This was my first time playing this fun sport. It's a mix of racket ball and volleyball. It's played with a standard height volleyball net but softer ball. You can hit the sides of the wall as well. It's a fun sport. If you're looking to play walleyball in the Fairfax area, check out this rec center. You can call them in advance and reserve a court. For 2 hours it costs each of us $11. You also get access to other facilities in the rec center. They have a decent locker room for shower and decent sauna. Huge swimming pool. Large parking area as well. read more

Never take your kids to get swim lessons here! They take your money but then do not offer the services. A teenager will sit on the side scrolling through Instagram while teaching your kids and wife. The instructors do the bare minimum and they are disconnected socially. Getting a refund is impossible as the management at this place is extremely unprofessional and they do not follow through on voiding your transaction. You have to call them 9 times and then they still do not void your transaction. read more

Honestly, for the price, this place is pretty good! You can pay more for a private gym, but this place has everything the private gym has (and probably a bit more). You'll find racquetball courts, a big pool with lap lanes and an area for kids to play, a hot tub, a sauna in the mens and womens locker rooms, and of course a gym with gym equipment. There's even drop-in classes for adults and classes for kids (including dance and swim). Is the rec center older looking than a private gym? Yes. Is the rec center older than even Oak Marr Rec Center (also owned by Fairfax County)? Yes. But in the end, I pick this rec center because it's conveniently located, and for my kids' sake, the pool seems warmer than the Oak Marr Rec Center (or at least the air temperature is warmer). read more

My friend and I go here for personal training with Gillian. She is incredible: friendly, challenging, and flexible at adapting routines to meet our needs. The facility is nice too, clean, not very crowded (even on weekend afternoons) and the people at the front are always friendly and helpful. Also, a nice mix of clients of all ages and fitness levels. This is the 3rd Fairfax RECreation center I have visited. And it is still an old, dirty facility. It has two levels with a main staircase in the middle and elevators. Near the entrance are cubbies where you need to put your bags. There are coat racks and paid mini lockers as well. There is a security camera in that corner, but honestly if someone really wanted to run off with your stuff, there isn't anything stopping them. The top floor has the main gym equipment including cardio equipment, machines, weights, dumbbells, yoga equipment. Scattered throughout the room are spray bottles and paper towels to wipe down the equipment. Everything is pretty packed so there isn't much space to stretch or use the free weights. There is only one corner to use mats. Their dumbbells only range from 5 lbs to 60lbs. The machines aren't the latest and greatest but they do the job. There are a few club rooms on the top floors but they seem to only be for classes. There is a small section that you can sit down, eat something from their vending machine, or read a book from their collection. The bottom floor is primarily rooms and the pool. There are a few racketball courts that can double as volleyball or badminton courts. The dance studio is down there too. I think if there are no classes, this would be the room to do stretches and calisthenics. Locker room. There is a womens, mens, and family room. It has a decent number of lockers, though it is operated by quarters...seriously quarters in the 21st century?! No way to utilize your own lock. You are better off using the cubbies or the benches on the side of the pool. There are a handful of showers (6), one of which is handicap accessible. The others are pretty small. Overall cleanliness of the locker rooms are just marginally better than the other two RECenters I've been too. But it is clear that they don't clean the place well daily if even weekly. Pool: as usually if you are a swimmer you will have a tough time finding a free lane. All throughout the year, most lanes will be blocked off for classes/team practices and sometimes completely blocked for swim meets. They take place during off work hours. It is irritating, but unfortunately I have yet to find a better option in Fairfax county aside from forking over $100+/month at a Lifetime gym. This one in particular seems to only have 5-7 lanes available at a given time. Their diving region still belongs to a deep end lane. They have an inclined zero depth entry and a shallow end. There is also a hot tub. It was pretty dark in there. All clocks are analog so it was difficult to see what the time was or track your lap time. The deepest part of the pool is 12.5 ft. There are bleachers and few benches where you could put your swim bag down, but none of them are near the pool edge. If you go around back of the facility there is a single basketball court. But the basket is situated very low. I believe there is also a trail. Saw someone walking their dog. General Comment on Fairfax County RECreation Centers: a membership purchased at any of their centers scattered throughout Fairfax county will get allow you to access any of their RECenters. Though certain specialty facilities like Oak Marr's mini golf/golf complexes and Mount Vernon's ice rink will still have their own fees. There is a $30 for 30 days new membership plan. Otherwise they have an annual plan, a fixed number of visits plan, and a recurring biweekly plan. There is no fee to cancel most of the plans but you may be charged another cycle before they cancel your plan. All of them have swimming pools, but most of the time most of the lanes will be blocked off for classes/team practices. They are not ideal for consistent lap swimmers. The only demographic I can think of that benefits from the Fairfax county RECenters are people who are gym regulars, primarily use cardio and machines. Maybe occasionally swim. Otherwise, if you don't swim there are plenty of cheaper, better options like Planet Fitness or Golds Gym. read more

It's a bit outdated, but like the pool in here. The chlorine seems to overwhelm my senses a bit. They probably know what they are doing, but it does affect my sinuses. With that being said Olympic sized, and good for laps. Swimming is one of the best exercises you can do. There's a weight room. This isn't as fancy, as what you'll find at a private club. They do have a good selection of dumbbells, elliptical machines, and treadmills. If you like playing squash or basketball, you can do that here. It's not too busy either. For that reason alone, I tend to like this better than other county recreation centers. read more

They have good amenities: workout gym with plenty of equipment, indoor swimming pool for doing laps, hot tub, saunas, racquetball courts, and outdoor suntanning area. Basketball courts are outside. Daily classes and activities for kids. Vending machines for drinks only since COVID-19 hit. Masks are worn at all areas except when physically exercising. I didn't know this place existed until saw a TV commercial? Weird they're advertising but it worked since went and checked it out. They have a large heated indoor pool which is pretty nice and wasn't too crowded during the day on a weekday. I'm assuming this place is probably a zoo in the evening or on the weekends. They also have a couple of pretty large hot tubs which were okay and pretty empty. They also have gym equipment, squash courts, saunas, and fitness classes, etc. It's not bad at all for a county facility but at $10 a day (plus 50 cents cash if you want to use a locker) it's a bit of an expensive swim. They do have cheaper rates if you buy a plan so it's probably on par or cheaper than a gym if you're able to go at times where it won't be too crowded. I'll go back for an occasional swim but will try and avoid peak times. read more

This is a good place to go with your family. But it small compared to some others rec centers, but is in a good location that is for sure.

As far as location, for me this is RECenter by far the most convenient of the Fairfax County facilities. Over the summer, we tried a few summer camps for kids here. The programs were pretty good and prices were ok. The camp counselors were nice and very good with the youngers. I liked the pool - there was always room to swim even when they had classes in the pool. The place is well kept and the staff/volunteers at the front desk were nice. The first time you may have trouble finding it since it is offset from the road and has nice tree coverings. Providence RECenter's facilities include a heated, indoor 25 meter pool with 2 spas, saunas, shower and locker rooms, 3 racquetball and wallyball courts and a Fitness Center featuring a FitLinxx circuit, more than 20 cardiovascular machines, and a Pilates studio. There is an arts and crafts room, dance room and several multipurpose rooms where classes are held. These rooms are also available for party and meeting rental. read more

If I could give zero to the place I would. Mary is the worst person I have dealt with at the Rec center, she is so rude and impolite, she talk to customers sarcastically making fun of their accents. When I called the rec center to ask about my kid swimming classes policy and see if I can schedule him for another days and time since he was sick for more than two weeks and he has attended only one class. she angrily said: "if your kid is sick it is not our problem." Her answer was bizarre and so disrespectful. when I asked to talk to the manager she hung up on me. I have called again and again she kept hanging up on me, after four attempts she answered the phone and she started making fun of me, talking to me in a sarcastic manner, even asked me not to call there again because she is the only one working at the Rec center. The rec center is located close to home and work so I am kind of tied to this facility. 15 years ago, I was in high school swimmer and this was our practice facility and it seriously hasn't updated since. It reminds me of Spring Hill before the renovation and I don't think Providence is getting one due to land. The gym area is small there just isn't much in there. You might as well sign up for a cheap gym if your not planning on using the pool. There are classes nonstop and though that makes this place the money, lap swimming experiences vary. It is a lot of old people taking 5 minutes to cross the pool in the lanes. There was one instance, I was in a lane and the guards moved the lap lane over and kicked me out all for a class that was canceled that week. Passes are expensive but I think they apply to all FC rec centers but I would hate to have a membership. I would prefer Oak Marr or Audrey Moore but I live in walking distance so I feel stuck here. read more

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is b/c I am comparing it to Audrey Moore Rec Center in Annandale/springfield which is spectacular! But Providence is very good, it's just smaller than Audrey Moore and offers less XYO classes. XYO classes are like "drop in" classes that you can take for free if you have a membership and for $6.18 if you don't have a membership, but are a FX County resident. They range from cycling classes to yoga and meditation and bootcamps. I love them! Providence has a pool, raquetball courts and a gym with weights, treadmills and ellipticals. The machines can get crowded if you go at peaks times during the week. I have only had to wait a few times, but any wait time at all is annoying when it's a week day and you are a stressed-out, NoVA resident with 2 dogs and a full time job. It's a casual, family atmosphere and the staff is nice. Overall, the facility and equipment is great. They offer a range of registered classes from pilates to yoga to zumba. Providence is a bit pricey compared to a normal gym. I think it's $55 or $65 a month. Of coruse, you get a pool and other amenities you would not get at Gold's gym. Also, at Providence they don't make you sign a contract or a membership fee. You can also get "passes" instead of buying membership month to month. It's the county, so they are not trying to pull one over on you. read more

I like that this is only half an hour from DC. I like that Providence has different snack machines and frozen treats by the front desk for sale. I'm glad that they also have a sauna. Unlike Audrey Moore Rec Center that Kruella D. mentioned I also like that Providence has hot tubs and an area called a "beach" for younger kids. Providence can improve in their heating or insulation of the locker room. There aren't double doors so whenever people enter the locker room you are feeling the air conditioning from outside the locker room and not feeling the warmer air from inside the pool area. I know a couple of people who have applied here. I've been told that Providence has a serious lifeguard training program. Not serious about water fights but legitimately capable of saving people. I've been here on a couple occasions when lifeguards were being trained. The life guards were drilled over and over again with a dummy. The dummy was thrown to the bottom of the pool and the lifeguard had to swim to the bottom to retrieve the dummy. Costs for 2 adults and 2 kids for the family rate is only $15.90 which I think is totally worth it. It's too bad that T L. didn't have a good experience. read more

2 stars - in comparison to the other Fairfax County Rec Centers I've been to, Oak Marr and Audrey Moore, it's definitely on the meh side. My kids go to swim lessons there weekly when the classes aren't available or are full at Oak Marr. The thing that strikes me every time is that it seems dirty. I know it's a rec center, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be clean. There is always hair on the pool deck. I know that's going to happen occasionally, but every week both in the beach area and the lap swim area? The life guards regularly hose the pool deck off and it all goes back into the pool! I swim regularly at Oak Marr - have yet to have a creepy hairball experience there and I mean, I swim there regularly. Pros: Convenient location right off of Rt. 50 and I-495, ample, well lit parking lot, very friendly staff, usually at least 2 - 3 lifeguards at a time. Cons: Much smaller in comparison to other area rec centers - which means limited lap lanes, smaller "beach" area for the kids and when there are lessons or other classes, it's difficult to find space in the pool. It feels dirty - the creepy hairballs, but I also think that the size itself contributes to the dirty feeling - possibly due to the high usage of a smaller facility. In all fairness, my rating is primarily based on the aquatic facilities, locker rooms and lobby impressions. I have not used the weight equipment or the classes. For the same price - $7 per visit or $65 per month (single pass) - I can go to a more comfortable, better equipped and more spacious facility. read more

If you are going to join because of the pool, save your money. The pool is 90% for high school swim team meets, training and swim lessons from early morning to closing at 9pm, all year long. As a member, swimming in the couple of lanes left over for members is noisy and unpleasant with instructors yelling over the noise of dozens of noisy kids. Otherwise the remaining amenities the Rec Center offers -- stationary equipment, weights and a few drop-in classes -- can be purchased for much less money with a membership at Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, or another gym. My rating of "one star" is only because of the pool situation. The staff and cleanliness of the facility merit 5 stars. read more

I come here regularly to swim but don't much use any of their other resources. Prices are reasonable for drop-in at $8 for FFX County Residents but a bit pricey for memberships unless you're going fairly regularly. I'm still new to swimming so my only point of reference in observing the pool is to compare it to the pool at Washington-Lee Highschool in Arlington. This pool is just as spacious and well lit. The locker room is generally kept clean which is generally a step up over W-L. I love the pool because there are very few people swimming laps in here. They pack in a lot of classes and there are plenty of kids running around but they stay well away from the lap lanes. At W-L you often have to share lanes with up to 3 other people while here you can have a lane to yourself for well over and hour which makes the swim a lot less hectic. read more

Dear Dan, I just wanted to share the interaction that I just had with your manager Jake i did not carry cash under $100.00 bills today for my kids classes, i asked the if i could pay for 3 ice creams my fee in and get 4 quarters for the lockers to lock my personal belongings, the lady that was on the other register up sold me on the 30 for $30, when it came to pay the cashier did not know if he could do a cash back and went to talk to the manager jake, he came back and said no i asked them if he could charge me for a $3 ice cream and give a a $2 and get the quarter ($.25) i just wanted to lock my bag, he went and ask jake and then jake came over to tell me that the system does not do that. I asked polite can you just put a note as a manger so that they can balance the register tomorrow? and he started to raised his voice and began to tell me that he could do a lot but i had the choice to come here i told him not to raise his voice he could be the same age as my older kid, and he told me that that was it so i asked for his name and he told me you can talk to my general manager do you want his card with a smart tone on his voice, I sid let me ignore it and enjoy the time with my kids, they ran me out and he just stood over the cashier shoulders while the transaction was taking place that made me feel uncomfortable and i asked the cashier if there would be a problem getting the ice cream when my kids class ended and Jake very disrespectfully jumped in the conversation and said no you pay allready, and i lower to his level and I reply i just wanted to make sure that your system allows this and he once again raised his voice and told me you want to be start this and talk to me that way i can do the same and i asked him do you want me to and i just laught. and turn aside and he just said you can call my general manager if you want to, i replied by saying i will talk to him in person. I got the receipt and walked over my car and got a $100.00 bill to come back and get $.25 for the lockers. and i did get my change and jake was making smart remarks with two other fcpa employees in the back they came and gave me my change and i requested a $10.00 bill instead of the two $5.00 that the cashier was giving me. hopefully you are working tomorrow morning as i would like to talk to you in person. your two cashiers are great with customers it is a shame that your manager is behaving this way. My friends and I have been meeting here on the weekends for the past 6-9 months. It $7 or $8 to get in (depending on whether you are a Falls Church resident or not) and use all the amenities. It's very family/kid friendly - always a lot of kids (and parents) running around- taking classes etc. We usually go work out first at the fitness center. The fitness center is pretty light but has everything you need for a little workout and what's important- it's rarely crowded. The sauna and the jacuzzi are nice but the swimming pool is always busy on the weekends with kids that are taking classes and other visitors. Unfortunately the diving board is always closed. And there is no swim suit dryer in the locker room. Other than that- it's a decent place, especially if you live nearby. read more

Following a water aerobics class with at least 25 participants (only two of whom were male), it stinks to go the women's locker room with only six showers. Even without a class there is often a wait. It's kind of a bummer to give this facility only two stars after almost two years, because it has a lot going for it! All I come here for is the swimming (I DID try the treadmills and ellipticals, but cramped and not really the focus here, clearly). The pool is huge! The price is great, passes or year-long memberships, and the staff is really friendly and helpful. The women's locker room is disgusting, seriously - the showers are a train wreck, and do not forget your flip flops if you're going to walk around. The problem is that of any county/public pool, I think. If you are an early morning person, or you can sneak there on your lunch hour, you are golden (except in summer, when you have to dodge summer camp). But if you need to come after work, oh boy. In the Fall, the kids' swim teams start at 4pm (and they start hovering over your lane at 3:45). Earlier in the winter. They don't go too late, but the problem is that they are there (and taking up most or all lap lanes) in the wheel house of a lot of folks coming right after work, and then the backlog of everyone who couldn't get in the pool while waiting. :) Weekends are a total cluster of open swim, diving craziness, and lessons. Their Power Hour idea is awesome - all lap lanes, but it's 9-10pm on a weeknight. Which, that's great, but way too late for a lot of people to work out on a work night. The reality is that the pool doesn't really exist just to support paying adults, it's there for the community - the large part being the swim teams. Which is awesome for the kids, but no so much for adults who want to swim (and maybe even work out). I really enjoyed it until my first shell shock with swim teams last fall, and in year 2 of trying and failing to get around the time constraints of the other programs, I'm finally moving on to a private gym with a pool...which is a bummer, because this is a much bigger, nicer pool! So verdict, if you can overlook the filthy locker rooms, and you don't want to do laps at 5-5:30pm on weekdays, or weekends, you will like it...I did, when I could swim at lunch. :) read more

I use to go there regularly to go swim, however, after today's experience I do not plan on going back. As I was getting out of the pool I noticed a couple of the lifeguards were having a water fight with the hose. When I got to my stuff, I found it dripping wet. Needless to say I was beyond upset and will not be going back to this particular recreation center. I take my client here once every week. My client has disabilities but he knows how to swim and understands for the most part as I explain what he can and can not do. Weather it is a client, a family member or friend it should not matter and everyone should be treated the same. Yes you will always run into rude people, but various time I have been told "can he move" or can instructors who work there (not lifeguards) he can not come into this section. There's a few exits out the pool some people can not climb there way out the pool. With respecting people's space I believe exits are meant for everyone no matter where they are. It should be okay to walk the edge and get out. I do not see something wrong with that. These instructors swear they can be rude to whoever, they're gonna catch me on a bad day where I might say fuck it let me catch a case. Respect everyone man!!! Some potential, but management needs to get on the ball to fix some things. Every time I do a spin class there is no fan in the spin room. There used to be single small fan but apparently the facility can only afford one fan, so the other classes take the spin fan and the spin instructors dont get it back. Most recently, the pilates class before the spin class had a heater on (?!!) and the room was well over 80 degrees. Still no fan, and this time several of the class participants asked for a fan, so the instructor took time to go out and look for it with no luck, finally half way through the class one of the staffmembers found the fan and brought it in. A pathetic, $18 walmart fan (I have the same one at home) what kind of a recreation facility only has a single cheap walmart fan for every exercise class? It may seem petty at first, but it makes a big difference while exercising. The Audrey moore facility has at least 4 very large industrial fans just for the spin room. When I have gone there to swim sometimes there will be only 1 or 2 lanes open (the schedule advertises at least 3 - which itself is way too few) with the majority of the pool occupied by swim teams or groups. It seems as though that the regular members subsidize kiddie swimming programs with their $70/month fees. the freeweight selection is relatively thin, but to their credit there are lots of machines (although they still get crowded) The gym has potential, its in a convenient area and while it is small if it were run well it could be a great community asset. For now, unfortunately it makes more sense to get in the car and go further down 495 to Audrey Moore. read more

Decent overall facility...though, compared to other local recreation centers, clearly showing its age. Elevator is small and cramped, and the Men's locker room (the only really bad spot) is often grossly humid and muggy, with wet/dirty tiles on the floor., and the benches are way too narrow...it needs a complete redoing. Pool, though, is very nice, and does not suffer from the big contrast in water temperatures between the kiddie/shallow end and the regular lanes that one finds at Spring Hill, a few miles away at Tyson's. The center needs another vehicle-entrance, though, maybe one back through the woods to Fairview Park, so that it does not keep interfering with Falls Church High School right next door.....at some times of the day, the school buses jam up everything on Marc Drive/Jaguar Trail, and you can't get in or out easily. read more

I went on the weekend. Big mistake!! The pool was full up to the brim with people taking classes, and it wasn't very big. The locker rooms were a joke, the most horrible and belonged in a 3rd world country. The lockers looked like they've been attacked by a sledgehammer and never repaired. Great place for fitness and swimming. Downsides: the locker rooms aren't very well vented sometimes (and have no fans), so they get stifling (at least the men's side). Also, the pool water itself doesn't seem that clear and clean. The staff does not enforce the regulation that everyone needs to shower before using the pool, so that may be part of it. read more
