Came for a hearty meal and some Guinness and did not leave disappointed. Now note that we're tourists. So temper your expectations of this review unless you are also a tourist. Food was good. Beer excellent. Prices reasonable. We ate on the second floor where it was quieter and easier to get the barkeeps attention. The live music was on the first floor so if you want to listen to that, stay there. Five stars is we'd go back again even if it were out of our way. Our Lunch here had the feeling of being among family. Maybe it was the warm (and busy) restaurant staff, or maybe it was the feel that there seemed to be mainly locals here (or a reasonable facsimile). The place was almost packed when we came in, with the only available table being a high and cozy one in the middle. However, one at the front soon opened up, which we grabbed. Folks still kept coming in, and even though they were short staffed, the new customers were sent to the upstairs dining room, and advised to order downstairs. Our Adult beverages consisted of an O'Hara Pale Ale and Red, Chardonnay and water among the 4 of us. 3 really good Tuna Melts were ordered plus a tasty New Yorker (Pastrami with sauerkraut, gherkins, cheese, rocket and mustard), and chips/fries for the table. A little coffee and tea ended the meal, and we were soon on our way. Went here for dinner while visiting Dublin, Ireland. My wife and I were seated promptly upon arrival. It was very busy and lively tonight. Music and lots of people. My wife had a Pornstar Martini and I had a whiskey neat. She enjoyed her martini as well I with my pour. We ordered a burger and a Cobb salad. Ventured to Brannigans as a first stop after landing in Dublin. The pub's name hit home so we knew we had to visit! The bar had a wooded aesthetic with classic architecture, a full bar, and a decent amount of seating. It was a tad off the regular beaten path so it seemed less crowded. Service was a tad slow but the server was extremely nice. When we arrived, there weren't too many people but it was beginning to fill up close to when we left for a big rugby game. Our group ordered a variety of mix drinks and guinness. Oddly, the spirit will come separate from the mixer and one will be charged for both separately. For entrees, we got the fish and chips, beef burger, and children's chicken tender meal. The food was alright and we didn't love the "chunky chips". I would like to think that this was the quintessential pub experience. You walk in and really all you hear is the slight drone of people talking amongst themselves. Packed with decorations and alcohol to choose from with a classically woodsy interior. We ended up ordering a seafood pie and a lamb stew. And although I suspect they forgot our order at one point, we were delivered our food piping hot! The seafood pie had a light and buttery mash on top, a little crisp on top too. The sauce was velvety and had chunks of seafood in it. The carrots served along side it, super sweet. Would convert any child into a staunch veggie lover. The lamb stew had a nice broth, with tender pieces of lamb strewn about. Overall, a satisfying meal to fulfill any pub visiting desires! read more

Food was very tasty. The drinks were served cold and quick and the atmosphere was anticipatory as there was a big football match on TV. The smoked salmon was delish and I really liked the seafood chowder. My kids had the roast beef and they said the sauce was amazing. Husband had the seafood pie and liked it as well. Typical Dublin bar in the best way. Really nice slice of life that feels like a calm and cozy spot to escape the O'Connell Street throngs. The fish n chips were delicious and the portions plentiful. The Irish stew was meat on your bones hearty - rich and flavorful. Pints were a good deal and the crowd was friendly and lively. Was here today 4/20/25 and we were upstairs. I seen the reviews were pretty good on this place. We went there and they put us upstairs and the female waitress who took our orders was in a bad mood and really rude. We told her to give us the bill and we were done. She was very rude and charged my card more than the bill was. Stay away from this place at all costs. Bartender guys were cool but the female waitress was horrible and made the business lose a lot of money. read more

Purposely sought out this pub based on previous yelp reviews and was not disappointed. The pub has a great historic atmosphere with comfortable seating and a local vibe. The Fish & Chips were delicious...crispy beer-battered fish with a yummy lemon sauce. The fries were thick and tasty. The hamburger was perfectly done. We ordered cheese and bacon and it was very, very good. We enjoyed the great food and fun atmosphere. The service was not in-your-face but attentive at the same time. Service was performed by one of the barmen who were friendly and polite. Food tool less than 15 minutes to appear from the time we ordered it. Highly recommend!! read more

OK, first day in Dublin, and I was looking for an Irish pub and some fish and chips. This place was right near my hotel, about three blocks away, and came highly recommended by the people on yelp and by the concierge at my hotel. It was just what the doctor ordered. Friendly people and great food. The fish and chips were fantastic. The lemon caper aïoli that they serve as a dipping sauce was fantastic. My calorie counting brain said I should have skipped the aïoli and just used ketchup. But my stomach said "Gimme that fattening but super tasty aïoli." My stomach won the argument. The chips were crispy on the outside, but soft and tender on the inside. Very good. The fried fish was fantastic. I'm going to have to come back here again and try the Guinness beef casserole ... and the Irish stew... and a hamburger. Heck maybe I can just get a cot in the back of this restaurant, ditch my hotel room and eat here every day. I wouldn't be unhappy about that LOL You can tell that this is a very popular place with the locals because I was about the only tourist . And I can see why. Delicious spot! This was perfectly cozy with fast service and good prices. We came here on the later side on Saturday night, were seated right away, and had wonderful service and food! We got the beef and guinness casserole and peppercorn chicken, both of which tasted amazing. This place has THE BEST "Sheppard's Pie" (Beef and Guinness Casserole) that we've had in Ireland after 2 weeks of traveling here. Seriously. We previously had something similar (and it was good but not as good as this) in another pub in Dublin when we first arrived and spent the next 2 weeks looking for something like Sheppard's Pie everywhere we went (Dublin to Dingle to Galway to Dublin and all sorts of places in between). It's surprisingly difficult to find and not that available here. Or, they call it something else.. like a stew, and it may not have the potatoes with it or it has fewer vegetables. Anyway. The Beef & Guinness Casserole is FANTASTIC. It was a typical traditional pub, dimly lit, busy and seems to be popular with tourists and some locals. The main level was full, but there were plenty of seating upstairs. Our server was also our bartender, who was friendly. I ordered the fish & chips which was a large piece. The breading could've been crispier, but it was moist inside, tasted good and filling. Brannigan's was the perfect first meal in Dublin after a very long day of travel. My family and I were exhausted and hungry after checking into our hotel and found Brannigan's not far away. When we walked in, we found a traditional Irish pub complete with locals so we knew from the start we had made a good decision! Of course, my husband and I started with a couple pints of Guinness! It truly does taste different here than in the States- so much better! As for food, my husband, daughter, and myself all went with Seafood Chowder served with homemade brown soda bread. It was comforting, filling, rich, and delicious! My son always goes to the beat of his own drum and ordered the Traditional Irish Lamb Stew. He was very happy with his meal and ate every bite! Apparently, Brannigan's is a family-run pub. You kind of feel it when you walk inside. The service was great and the ambience is warm and welcoming. We had the lamb stew (highly suggest!), beef rib plate, and Shepardless pie (vegetarian dish). Everything was delicious and the service was top notch.
