Convenient location but not impressed with service or food. Food was overpriced for the amount of food. Long wait for service. The bartender was clearly doing his best, just understaffed. The Goat Cheese salad I ordered would have fit in a teacup but was spread out flat in a large bowl to make it look decent size. Great place to drink - if you don't mind waiting for service. Really cool, 3 stories bar! Every level is cool. Good selection of beer, and great looking food that we couldn't try due to the fact that their kitchen close at 18:00 (at leastnon a Thursday). Wish it stayed open till later, we would have probably hung out here all night! read more

Love it. My husband and I are visiting from Boston. My son spilled my pint, and I was given a new one at no charge! Even when I had drank at least half of the other one... I was still given a full one. The service was amazing. We only got pints so I can't say anything about the food. We're kinda wishing now that we had eaten there. read more

The Stag's Head is a bit hard to find and is in the middle of a maze of small streets. I hear the food is good but when we went to eat there did not realize they stop serving food at 6 pm. We had a drink and thought it had a nice atmosphere. read more

The pub is amazing, it's extremely beautiful and is very authentic. They have a wide verity of options and the staff was absolutely outstanding. Classic, deeply loved Dublin institution. One of the great places in this solar system to drink a pint of Guinness. The main bar, ground floor is the place to be. There is a great snug in the back. They have great comedy nights here in the basement. The place oozes history, and has beautiful wood all over. There is pretty neat tiling in places as well. Very cool traditional Irish pub. The pints are well drawn, and the staff is generally pretty nice. Even when it's getting full it isn't too difficult to get a drink, which is nice considering the sometimes tight quarters. Call me old fashioned but I fell in love with this place on arrival for it's pure authenticity. It's a real, proper traditional Irish pub without trying to be or without any of the fakeness of some of its counterparts in the Temple Bar area. All the staff are Irish and know the real meaning of the hospitality we're famed for. When I asked for a menu, the bartender informed me of the specials without sounding like he was rhyming it off but instead getting across a sense of ownership of the bar and pride in his job. Without having to glance at the menu, I ordered the house special of coddle and a pint of Arthur. I got stuck into my pint (nectar, I swear) and people-watched for the five minutes I waited for my food. The customers had the banter with other customers they'd never met before. The staff regularly visited tables who they thought had trouble deciding what to order to sizzle dishes such as the open smoked salmon sandwiches and seafood chowder. Then God must have shone on me from heaven because this basin of coddle which could only be described as fit for St. Patrick himself was placed in front of me. I was going to do what I walways do which is to pick up the salt and pepper and give the usual sprinkle but I decided to try it first. Absolutely bloody delectable. Was seasoned to perfection and would match the coddle made by my own mammy herself and at €9.95, a steal. I hope the staff and management in The Stag's Head read this review because I have a message for them... Thank you and congratulations for running a fantastic pub with fantastic food. Went to this bar for live music as described in another yelp review but unfortunately there was none. Regardless, had a good time here. The bar has a cozy atmosphere, was full but we were able to get a table and enjoyed a couple of beers. Looked like a bar I'd expected to see when visiting Dublin. One of Dublin's finest boozers, the Stag's Head is centrally located in Dublin 2 and authentically appointed. The paneled walls and bar ooze character and the service is to a high standard, if a little brusque. . Frequented by locals and visitors in equal measure it draws crowds Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It's a great compromise location if you want to start the night off somewhere that's acceptable to everyone and move on somewhere else. Comfortable and atmospheric. Beautiful flower displays and signage (a stag's head, naturally) give the pub away as you approach. Not to be missed, the Stag's Head is a top 10 definitive Dublin bar. read more

This is an uber-tourist pub but a better one than you would find in Temple Bar. It has all the affectations of a tourist pub short of "? miles to Kerry" signs although maybe I just can't see them but alos has regulars and all that. It does a good Guinness at a half decent price, the bar staff are good and it is busy enough to have an atmosphere. If you are looking for a pint in the area it is good place, if it is rammed there is a place on the opposite corner which is also good. read more

Great pub in central Dublin, my favorite by-far. The potato-leek soup with brown bread was delicious. The bar itself is clean (especially for a pub) with warm decor. Love this pub. Always take our out of town visitors. Has an upstairs if just for drinks, or go downstairs on the weekends for live music. Feels very traditional and cosy down there. I "tested" over a dozen pubs on a short visit to Ireland, this was by far the "defacto" Irish pub. It is a "must visit" if you want to know what a pub is supposed to be. A few "snugs", lots of wood, multiple rooms, long and wide. Great group socializing, everyone enjoying each other's company. A smart ass bartender that when asked if I could have a Peroni pint asked "and where did you see that here?". The Stag's Head is a nice pub - my friends and I visited twice while in Dublin. The first was for late lunch/early dinner. The food was OK as far as pub food goes. The second was for "last call" one night. We were able to finds seats on both occasions. Service is very friendly and prompt. The only problem we had was that the bartender told us that "we would know when it was last call," however, we didn't and were caught getting kicked out of the pub with half-full drinks! I actually feel a bit ashamed of myself...having lived in Dublin for much of my life, I went to the Stag's Head for the first time last night (I know I know, I'm an abomination, a dark smudge on every proud Dubliner's drinking schedule...). It was totally worth the wait if that makes you feel better though? It's sooooo nice! I've a penchant for 'old man pubs' and this one ticks all the boxes - roomy yet cramped at the same time, nice and dark interior, fairly random stuff on the walls (I wasn't aware they did the 'murdered-animals-on-the-wall' thing outside the American South) and velvety seats. Reminiscent of the pre-smoking ban days when you can picture the smoky atmosphere pervading every nook and cranny, giving the place a mysterious air, this is one place that will have me going back again no doubt! read more

A true gin establishment in the Victorian style. This place is seemingly always packed, but is definitely worth a linger or two if you can grab a seat. As nice as the downstairs is, don't bother with the upstairs lounge. If you can't find a comfortable spot downstairs, just move along to the next pub. The best pub in Dublin! The history is amazing and there's more locals than tourists. The food was excellent - for Irish pub food that is. I had Irish Stew and the spouse had the lamb shank. I would recommend both. I don't know what it was about the carrots but they tasted like they just came from the ground. Very fresh and excellent taste. Tasty fare but what made it really special was the extremely knowledgeable bartender who steered us to several single pot artisan whiskeys for him and local craft ciders for me. Great place to bring visiting friends/family or for special occasions since it can get crowded, especially on weekends. Be prepared to stand outside and drink you beer if it's during a busy time of day. If you go later in the night, they have events on certain days of the week, like a comedy show. The Stag's is another one of my favourite pubs in Dublin. I've been going there since I was in college and I'm surprised now that they let me in back then because when I go in there these days I don't really notice any studenty types. There's a great back area/snug but to be honest all parts of the pub are cool to sit and stand in. It gets quite busy but that just adds to the atmosphere. Mind your handbag though, and the barmen will tell you the same. The Stag's has two doors and has a reputation for thieves coming in one, going through the bar and robbing someone's bag and exiting out the other door. It happened to me once as I had left my bag hanging on the back of my high stool. I never made the same mistake again and it didn't stop me going back there. I'm just more vigilant now! read more

Was here on Friday night, its hard to get a seat here but its basically a cool old man pub, with a non old man clientele. A nice surprise was the delicious glass of white wine I was served, a Marlborough Sauvignon blanc, unexpectedly tasty. The bar man said it wasn't available to buy sa siopa, cant remember the name of it but it was yum. And nicely chilled. Ill be back to sample it again. read more
