    Motorcycles stolen from the garage
    Sebastian H.

The Standard is a luxury apartment complex in a not so luxury area. Not quite in "Willow Glen" as advertised, this complex (along with the nearby ones) serve as a perfect target for theft which is a MASSIVE problem here. I don't know the specifics but it feels as though there are multiple people with key fob entry who come in at night and free reign on what they want to take. Other reviewers have already went over their experiences, the mailbox and the bike thing but I'd like to add mine 1. BIKE ROOM - NOV 2020 Just to reiterate with the bike room incident: it's inside the building and someone walked away with literally 10-15+ bikes. Like, they almost cleaned out the room. This was the only time I've seen management take immediate action 2. STORAGE UNIT - NOV/DEC 2020 I rent a storage room from the complex, it's an unmarked door at the end of my hallway. I used to have two bikes in there until one day I went into it and saw they were gone. Upon closer inspection, I saw crowbar marks showing forced entry (uploaded pic). Told office, they did nothing. ONE WEEK later I check on my room again, and my stuff was rifled through a SECOND time. Out of curiosity, I walked around and looked at all the other storage rooms in our complex, and to my surprise 8 of the 10 I saw had crowbar marks near the handle So I call the leasing office like hey, can we do something about this? I also informed them what I found, and I suggested they send out an email so everyone else can go check on their stuff. Well after following up like 3 more times, they finally did something. They installed a plate on the door so it can't be propped open. On ONLY MY DOOR. And they never sent an email. (So if you're a current resident and have a storage room, go check on your things) 3. MOTORCYCLES - FEB 2021 In October, my girlfriend and I got our first motorcycles. Within the first few days, I found a note on mine from another resident warning me that *one week prior* their motorcycle got stolen from the garage along with one other one. I thought wow that's unfortunate, and I'll get a disc brake lock to keep mine safe Well 3 months later, both of our motorcycles get stolen too! Leasing office just gives their "sorry" and that's pretty much it. Four cameras pointing at every entrance to the garage and they can't find footage of two motorcycles getting stolen ----- I've only lived here for 6 months and I've witnessed too much. Almost everyone I've spoken to in the hallways has had their car broken into or something stolen. It sucks to get anyone to do something about it, you gotta neg them. I shouldn't have to call and beg them to do something to protect my property here. Not once were they like "wow, let me see what I can do to try to prevent this from happening again." I assume they're just so used to it now from things getting constantly stolen that it's just a note in some folder somewher TL:DR; I do not recommend living here, or at least make sure your renters insurance policy

I'm updating my review yet again. We've been here almost three years and all original employees have left or been fired. These people were truly what made living here worthwhile. The increase in blatant crime in the past six months along with the nonchalant sometimes even blaming response from management makes it extra awful. Luxury prices for a mediocre at best experience.

Let me add more to the bad experience living here. Luxury apartment with cheap built in windows that allows water to leak through inside of the apartment. This is frustrating for what you pay to live. It is supposed to be a high quality living space, but they are not...

Since they changed management in summer 2020, it's been bad. The leasing office doesn't respond and when/if they do, it's because you've been tracking them for days or you actually walk up to the leasing office to talk to them in person. Luckily, I moved out in the fall but their new management needs to seriously up their professional and responsiveness. It's literally day and night compared to the previous management with Amy as the leader.

Ask the Community - The Standard

Hi there! Would it be possible to have short term 2 months lease starting from Feb16?

Thank you for your interest in The Standard! We are currently offering lease terms from 3 to 16 months. If this will work for you, please feel free to reach out to our Leasing Office for further details. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

From the two bedroom floor plans I can see online, It seems that most master bedrooms have just a shower and no bathtub? Is the bathtub only in other bathroom?

I don't know if all layouts are the same so it's best to check with the leasing office, but my apt is 2BR, 2BA and the bathtub is not in the master bedroom, meaning it can be used by guests. However, my bedroom and bathroom is a lot bigger than the… Read more

I wish I could write a better review but I'm so disappointed by what was previously a great place to rent. The buildings are quite dated and the updates that have been made are of the cheapest quality. The old carpeting in the buildings was replaced last year...we all thought what had been placed was the liner and the installation people would be returning to lay the actual carpet. No...the carpet is just that thin and it causes sound to reverberate through the halls. The vinyl flooring in some units is cheap quality and poorly installed, so that it's constantly lifting. They continue to permit cigarette smoking on patios and balconies, and public areas around the site, which means there's smoke coming in through the windows, patio/balcony doors, and vents, regardless of whether you smoke. The complex spent three years and a lot of money to update the property, with the pool and hot tub, bbq area, and clubhouse were all unavailable during this time. The big reveal after all the work reflected that the only thing changed for residents was a nicer bbq area. The pool and hot tub, and all the chaises, tables, and umbrellas are the same that have been there since my initial residency. The clubhouse, which is only open during the management's working hours (unless reserved for a private event), is gorgeous but the main change is a remodel of the office space. The management and facilities staff are the only people who use the "clubhouse," and in great part due to the hours it's accessible as well as the fact that whenever someone goes in there, it feels as if you're interrupting the office staff having their breaks, hanging out and snacking, etc. All the parking spots were redesignated this past year as "assigned" spots, in a clear attempt to increase income for the management company. Residents must pay an additional fee monthly to reserve a spot, covered or not, and there are virtually no unassigned spots for additional resident cars or guests. The office staff regularly "patrol" the parking area for parkers who aren't "registered" and when discovering someone, send an email blast to the entire community calling out the car's identifying details and threatening to have the vehicle towed within a certain number of minutes if it's not moved. During weekends, the Springwood staff tend to park in the spots reserved for "new residents." Management sends email frequently admonishing residents that they've "been told" they cannot have anything on their balconies/patios, hallways, lobbies, etc. as if the residents are young children. I don't like when people break rules meant to ensure people's enjoyment of their rented home either, but there's a way to do this respectfully and a way to make people feel bad. When there are problems with the laundry room machines, the office staff will not assist. The response is that they haven't been trained on how to use the equipment or its software and residents have to contact the vendor (which never seems to result in a response). A dryer has been non-functional for months but despite numerous requests, the management staff have done nothing to ensure that it's repaired or replaced. With only 4 washers and 4 dryers per building, having one out of order creates a difficult situation for residents trying to do their laundry. On the plus side, the maintenance staff are without exception friendly and responsive. The apartments are in a great location and the people living there are generally quite nice, but there are few amenities and the management staff sometimes make residents feel like interlopers.

Most of the apartments I found in San Jose are newer (which is fine!), but I wanted something with a more loft-y, artsy vibe to it. Twohy doesn't disappoint. The walls are super thick, too; I never heard my neighbors...only sounds from the street outside. Also, bonus: it's a small community, and management is very attentive and responsive. Everyone I ever met there was friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic. So much to walk to. Safeway's right there for groceries, plus tons of bars and food in all price ranges (from cheap mexican to expensive steakhouses) it's all right there! You also have a movie theater right next door and MUJI across the street, not to mention VTA literally right outside your front door. Amenity-wise, included in rent was a parking spot in the Safeway parking lot (not a guaranteed spot, but I never had to park on the street even during the busy Christmas season), a gym membership at the gym across the street, and water/sewage/garbage. There are no laundry hookups in-unit, but there is a laundry room in the basement which is nice. The units have a small but lovely kitchen with decent appliances and nice fixtures in the bathroom, wood floors (YAY), tall ceilings, and huge windows which means lots of light. It's not a huge space, but then again I didn't need much space, and preferred to live in a great area of town vs having a ton of room. Overall I adored living there. If my job hadn't taken me up to the north end of the bay, I wouldn't have left! I highly recommend Twohy to those looking for a unique space in downtown San Jose.

Overall the places are nicely remodeled with hardwood, high ceilings and big windows. Only problem is the windows are single pained, letting in a LOT of noise, especially on the VTA side. Another drawback is the TV situation. They are not wired for cable (comcast or ATT), dish network is available but wasnt wired down passed the 4th floor... and direcTV is available but NOT in HD...good grief! The rent is not cheap, i think the cheapest (when I moved in) was around $1280 and I believe that was with some discounts for a 12 month lease. However, my rent came with a Bally's membership (right across the street) and parking at the 2nd/San Carlos garage... not bad. If it wasn't so expensive I'd give it 4 stars. Add some dual pained windows and Comcast or ATT cable lines (or direcTV HD lines) and it could be 5 stars. Overall its ok, location is great but there are some drawbacks.

Today, two of us were walking through chatting, and a Meadows property manager/worker yelled at us from across the parking lot, maybe 40 yards away, asking who we were. Thinking he had mental issues or a salesman, we kept walking. He then approached and harassed us, screaming about how we were trespassing, continuing verbal abuse and harassment and followed us until we left the property. We talked quietly, did not approach anyone, hang door tags, play music, or toss trash. We didn't go into the center apartment area. We're both computer professionals. This employee could have gotten on his golf cart and quietly told us sorry we cannot walk thru his parking lot and to kindly exit the premises. Instead, he chose to yell threateningly across a parking lot and come after us with verbal abuse. A good way to judge apartment management is how they treat visitors. Because as residents, you're going to get more of that - or worse. Stay away from this complex.

Meadows is very safe and it's also in a good location - it is right off of Central expressway and it's close to 237 and 101. Apartment was spacious as well. I also thought the gym was great and bigger than a lot of other apartment gyms so amenities as good here. There is a community pool as well. The management company was very responsive with service requests. We had an issue where the central AC was spewing out dead bugs so the maintenance team quickly came in and gave us a new AC. Meadows also hosts some events every couple months (coffee station, Easter egg hunt, food trucks, etc.) which made the apartment complex feel more like a community. One of the drawbacks about this complex is the lack of natural light in the some of the apartments. Because of all the tall redwood trees and the direction of our apartment, we didn't get much light. For the most part, we had our lamps turned on all the time. And because of the trees, leaves would fall into our balcony so we had to frequently clean that up. We decided to leave once the lease was up as we found a place with more natural light closer to our offices and meadows was going to increase the rent by $250 a month. If it wasn't for the light situation, probably would have continued to stay here. Overall I enjoyed living here, and if you are ok with less natural light or you are able to get an apartment facing the right direction, then I recommend!

Highlighting a few key points about this complex: Management/Maintenance: Michael Abundiz has been very responsive to any issues in the complex and sends out update emails to everyone. Maintenance team is very friendly and quick for repairs. You can submit things on the portal to notify them. For example, I've submitted requests to change out the bulbs in some of the lamps when they die out around the complex since I walk my dog frequently at night. Dog Friendly: It's super DOG FRIENDLY and my pup loves playing with all the neighborhood doggos during our walks. I feel safe walking my dog here since it's a gated community, even late at night when I've had to walk him at 1am or 4am. There's also plenty of grassy areas to bring him to potty unlike other complexes where you have to go down several floors to a small dirt patch. There's also a very large dog gated park you can drive to about a few minutes drive (Watson Park) you can bring your pups. Accessible Location: All the major highways (680, 101, 880) are easily accessible. It's also close to everything you'll need - There's a huge Safeway a few streets down, Costco about 5min away, and down the street are gas stations, 7-11, Starbucks, and the Bart station.
