Representing September 2019 in my scrapbook series is State Theatre. I visited State Theatre on a few occasions. It's a good venue with dance floor viewing area in front as well as seating for eating/drinking on the sides & behind as well as an upstairs area with more vantage points to watch a show. There were 3 noteworthy times I visited. Once was Friday, August 2, 2019 and then just 5 weeks later on Friday, September 6, 2019. Early August was still relatively new in a relationship of that time, a little more than a month in. We enjoyed a Smiths/Morrissey cover band. 5 weeks later my friend invited us to a show there. September 6, 2019 was a bad day because more than half my company was laid off. I knew of a financial crisis occurring in late August but was unaware of the gravity of it. A coworker warned me that afternoon before to save anything on computer you want to keep. So, I was in a panic state. That morning I had a doctor appointment. My manager called later in morning of what occurred was that we were both keeping our jobs, but lots of people were called in to tell them their job was ending. My mood was kinda depressed at the people who were gone and the g/f & I had a disagreement about something. Ultimately, the show was good, but I don't really have much recollection wasn't so good. Long after later in September 2023, two friends who had become a couple invited me & our mutual friend to a show here. We reserved table and ate there. I got a burger I think, which was decent. I think I got a beer too with my burger. Great band once again! In summary, State Theater is an older venue but has some historic charm. I've had some good memories here. read more

The State Theatre is such a fun spot, and I hope more bands continue to play here. The atmosphere and energy always make for a standout experience. Came here for a concert on a Saturday night. The tickets were pretty inexpensive at about $25 each. Drinks were pricey and low quality. The theater itself needs some updating. Overall, not a bad night as we enjoyed most of the music but venue itself needs a revamp and more organized line entry. FYI: there are a lot of stairs at this location but they do have an accessible bathroom on the main floor. read more

Visited this venue for the first time during a trip to Fairfax. I enjoyed Mother's Little Helper -- a Rolling Stones cover band from the area. Loved the chill vibe of the venue, loved the band, and enjoyed the food and drinks. It's a great place to spend a night out with live music and dinner, and everything was very reasonably priced. I had the Angus cheeseburger, beer, and chocolate cake, all of which were great. You could reserve a table for 2 for $12 with a commitment to buy $12 in food (not including alcohol). The band went on at 8:30 and took a 10-minute intermission at 10:15. I would have stayed for the entire set, but my companion had to get to bed early. I was impressed by the number of great songs they played through intermission. Looking forward to visiting again the next time I'm in the area! read more

The State Theatre has been around for quite some time. They offer live music, comedy show, live entertainment. It's the home of the Leg Warmers, an iconic 80s cover band. The venue is pretty large so it holds a solid amount of people. The only problem is that the place gets uncomfortably hot. The AC needs a desparate upgrade. The only place to stand is by a fan, or not move nor dance. If you are going for live music you want to dance. Check in with bar coded tickets is smooth, security searches bags, service and drinks are good. Fun place, but the AC needs an upgrade. read more

What a gem in Falls Church! We recently went to The State Theatre for a yacht rock show featuring Thurston Howell, and it was such a fantastic experience. The venue itself has such a cool vibe--it used to be an old movie theater and now hosts live music and comedy shows. It's got this perfect mix of history and fun energy. One big plus is the free parking at Whole Foods and Kaiser--it makes the night out so much easier. Another pleasant surprise? The food! I ordered a burger that was cooked perfectly, and the housemade potato chips were out of this world. My friend had the pulled pork barbecue sandwich and couldn't stop raving about it--especially since the prices are super reasonable for a live music venue. And while Thurston Howell absolutely rocked the stage, one of the highlights of the night was our bartender. I wish I remembered her name, but she was an absolute star--friendly, fast, and attentive. Nobody at the bar ever seemed to be waiting for anything because she was just that good. All in all, this place checks every box: great music, great food, and great service. Wow! I am sad that I have not discovered this awesome venue until now. We were so impressed by the vintage old timey vibe of this theatre. We saw a 90s country band and got to sit in the incredibly comfortable seats in the balcony. Drinks were well priced for a concert venue...$8 for each tall can of beer or cider. The food smelled very good but we didn't try any. Nice service. The staff were all friendly. This theatre is like being in an old time hardware store seeing a Friday night concert! Service is good, food is passable, the acoustics are questionable, but the shows are pretty awesome. Even if you don't plan on eating much, buy a table reservation (they come in 2s) so you don't have to scramble for a good seat. Unless you want to dance all night up front, in which case, go for it. We went for the Super70s rock show cover band, and they were a blast. However, I must remember to bring earplugs next time - they definitely like it loud. :) read more

Venue that was apparently a movie theater back in the day and now hosts concerts, comedy nights and other live events. I've seen a mix of tribute/cover bands (a mainstay here), comedy shows ($5 comedy night with local comedians is always fun) and other performers. The venue isn't huge but they use their space well. They have standing/dancing areas and tables downstairs if you want to eat dinner and they have theater seats and seating along the rail up in the balcony. They have bars upstairs and downstairs but I've never seen the upstairs bars open so just head downstairs to grab a drink. There doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house but keep in mine the seats upstairs are general admission so if you don't get there early you might be out of luck with getting a seat. There's free parking on the nights and weekends at the Kaiser parking garage across the street. This place is older so it can get warm, especially upstairs, any time of year and the upstairs restrooms are small compared to modern venues. This place is a Falls Church landmark and hopefully stays around for many years to come. read more

Great local venue. We went for the $5 comedy show and it was packed. The comics were great. This is a really good venue to have a few beers and laughs. There is free parking across the street on the top floors of the Kaiser Permanente garage. Go early for a good seat. read more

This is a good mid-sized theater, parking and restaurants close by. Good sound and lighting. You can get really close to the stage if you like. There are a variety of ways to see a show here - stand close to the stage, sit in the balcony, or (my favorite) reserve a table for an additional fee. Reserved tables get you a server and full menu of food. You unfortunately have to spend at least $10 per person on food, and their food is not spectacular. On the plus side, service is good. The building is a lovely old theatre, which is showing its age a bit. There is only one restroom on the first floor, designated for the disabled. Otherwise restrooms are on the balcony level, where there is also an additional bar that's open for sold-out shows. Pro tip: get to popular shows well before door opening time, a line for entry often starts an hour ahead of time for sold-out shows. read more

This is a great location with the added bonus of being near an open in the evening parking garage. The staff has always been friendly. We have seen Gin Blossoms, Buddy Guy, Les Zepplin, and Jimmie Vaughan as well as the current Blind Melon and some comedy shows. The State is similar to 9:30 and Anthem in turns of internal set up with an open floor but some seats in the rear/sides as well as balcony seats. We usually stick with standing as my hubby loves being close to the stage. Worth a visit if you haven't been or just haven't been in a while. read more

So you're DMV Yelp Elite is kinda a big deal. All Access means I was able to go in and out, I'm with the band. Lucky for me my brother and his band were in town. The people at the venue were kinda rude but the nice people out numbered the mean ones. Food looked decent and the Chefs were cool. Drinks looked amazing. Unfortunately I was in and out before the show started and didn't get an opportunity to try. I'll def be back! read more

Great acoustics and neon light effects take you back to big hair band 80s...lThey have bars set up in at least 4 corners of the theater serving alcoholic drinks & refreshing non-alcoholic beverages! Very friendly and welcoming staff and we come here mostly when The Legwarmers band is playing. They play 80s music from pop Madonna to storytelling Tom Petty all the way to Twisted Sister's " wére not gonna take it " as we grooved and rocked it with Bon Jovî's and Axé Rose Guns n Roses sets, as well other popular 80s band in between! This has been my first concert since covid and I super enjoyed it. You must be vaccinated or have a clear covid test within 3 days to attend the event. Seen Miyavi on 10/29/21 and it was even better than the first time I saw him here. The place had two floors and my old lady self can't be bothered to be down in the crowd so. 2nd floor with seats and a good view of the stage is where we decided to sit. I would def recommend it if you don't wanna be around too many people read more

A nice little venue in Falls Church, VA. I've been to two concerts here and one comedy night. Overall, tickets were cheap for all the events I've been too and they offer an option to pick up at the door to save on service fees. Their drinks are priced pretty average for the area, last time I went they were out of Yuengling on tap which was sad. I haven't tried their food so I can't speak on this. Parking is easily accessible across the street. I just wish they had a bathroom on the bottom floor as you have to go up two flights of stairs for the bathroom, which is inconvenient during a concert. read more

It was my first time going to The State Theater and It is a very nice venue. We saw The Dave Matthews tribute band, they were excellent! I highly recommend this venue. The staff was great, especially the ticket Attendant named Vaulx she was very pleasant and welcoming! The menu was simple and good. the several items we tried were very good! A lovely theatre. Came here for A Night of Grander Music to watch M perform! We found street parking, which was simple enough. Employees around the theatre are very friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely time watching the talented artists perform and enjoyed every part of the concert. The music was beautiful/heart warming, light/design was on point, and stage set up perfect. They sell food at the theatre as well. I enjoyed the mushroom sandwich but B got a pretty rough food bug after eating his cheesesteak sandwich. Restrooms are upstairs and clean. We really love this intimate theatre. Seating was cozy and easy to find. So glad we got a chance to visit! read more

this venue is so classic. The venue itself is a bit dated, but definitely gives it an old-timey vibe. Definitely not fancy, but more low key and chill. I've been here for a 90s cover band party and multiple $5 standup nights. Most recently, they are checking for vaccine cards at the door which i really appreciate. I attended my last $5 comedy night last saturday night and it was nice to see things are feeling "normal". Great lineup of local comics. Friendly and helpful staff. There is a $10 min per person if sitting at a table with wait service, but there is also bar tables where you can order directly from the bar. Good selection of beers and wines to have along with your laughs. read more

Never gave this place much thought since it looked run down and uninviting from a distance. But never judge a book by its cover. My girlfriend and I caught a show here for the Legwarmers, an 80's cover band. As an 80's baby, I'm somewhat familiar with all the good tunes from Madonna to Bon Jovi to Def Leppard to Bruce Springsteen. And they played all of them! As for the venue itself, there's an upstairs with balconies for view or you can go downstairs to the main floor in the gated area or move close up to the stage. Booze and food are served and restrooms are upstairs. I'm not blown away by this venue but i did enjoy the show. I'll be more than happy to check out future shows here if there's something worth watching. read more

Went to a comedy night at this awesome theatre in Falls Church. The staff here are so nice, from the bouncer at the front door to the servers. We got a table up front because of no-shows, and food and drinks were great. The best part: $6 tickets! Highly recommend!! read more

You have to reserve them early, no cost but a minimum food/beverage charge for the table. There is seating for 75%+ of the guest if it is a popular event. Otherwise there is standing room. 3 out of 5. Sound/View. Small enough, and well suited so anything going on is visible to everyone and the sound is good 4 out of 5. Used to come here often. Until two of my friends were given date rape drugs which we believe was from the bartender. I tried to talk to the manager and he dismissed me. I've never felt more scared and violated at a business in my life. My friends were paralyzed, couldn't talk and had shallow breathing for a day from two glasses of wine. Please stay away from this business. They didn't care about what happened. I'm glad my friends are okay..but this was very scary to witness and pray nobody else has to experience what we did. read more

Great venue for seeing live musicians! The sound was balanced and did not need to wear hearing protection. Very friendly bar tender. I love how easy it is to get to and that there's always free easy parking right around the corner. I generally find parking on Park Ave or in the garage if the street is full. It's only a block from the venue. The venue has great concerts and I've been going there once or twice a year for about two decades. The band VAST used to play there a lot, seen them 3 times there. Also seen Eve 6, KMFDM, Ozomatli, The Pietasters (performing their debut album that time), Squirrel Nut Zippers, Gin Blossoms, and Christopher Titus. Most recently saw The Ultimate Doors there and just this week Almost Queen! Seems they get a lot of tribute bands there. My gripes with the place is that for Almost Queen they oversold the tickets and the place was super packed so getting there at 8:30 when show started meant I was standing on the balcony the entire time! Also there's no elevator for the balcony so it's not the best venue for someone with disability (I have arthritis). But it is only a 20 minute drive from home for me. I don't have the food and don't drink alcohol but I eat before going so I'm fine. They have no dress code which is nice. I'm sure I'll be back for the next can't miss show but if they pack it in that much again I might rethink their next sold out gig! read more

Intimate venue with balconies available for reservation. I attended a family party, and we rented out a balcony for a concert with The Legwarmers, and 80s band. It gets LOUD in there and I would definitely recommend ear plugs no matter where you stand. The general atmosphere is good, clean fun. Parking can be tricky because there's not a designated lot. We found street parking across from the venue. The burgers were surprisingly good for $5! I was expecting a small burger, but it was fat and juicy. It had onions, lettuce, and tomato. Fries are also offered, but that's pretty much it for food. Drinks are fairly standard in variety but Jell-O shots were also available the night I was there. It is a good theater with low price ticket shows which is kinda cool. I don't know if they have camera on he second floor facing right at the audiences. A while ago, a guy was jerking off during a show. Nothing to do with the theater, just happened to be there at this theater. I wonder if there is a security guard or some staff on each floor during the shows - just to see someone raise their hand in need of help...or needs to report such a disgusting incident right then and there. read more
