My wife and I were looking so forward to trying out this new restaurant. Showed up and was taken to a very nice table by a window... by the very young hostess who put our menus down and pulled out our chairs.... THEN said.... oh wait..... You are JUST a two top! Picked our stuff up and sat us at the smallest two top I have ever been seated at in my life (in an upscale setting). I might expect this at a family dining restaurant. To be clear we were not the only two seated at these small tables. Others were eating there as well. But then the kicker. Within 5 minutes another couple was sat at the SAME 4 top by the same hostess and she picked up the other two sets, glasses, etc. and we were just floored. I guess we weren't good enough for one of the many open 4 tops. There were many other couples there before us that were dining at the nice 4 tops. It pretty much seemed to be a pick and choose thing with the hostess. You are only as good as the 1st person you meet at the restaurant. The first impression. That was enough for us. Shame. We both told a bunch of people all about this new restaurant, the menu online, and how excited we were to try it out. Remember... someone who has a good experience might tell 1 or 2 people about it. Someone who has a bad one.... we told everyone. Offend someone with qualifiers and then place them against a wall (great view we had of the black wall our table was pushed up against) on two very uncomfortably hard chairs, and expect them to dine on a table the size of an oversized checkerboard. I think not. It just wasn't going to work. I have never in my many years of dining gotten up and walked out of a restaurant before. That changed. I thought my wife would be upset. She smiled and said, GOOD, let's get out of here. Having eaten at most Vicary establishments, this one leans towards a louder/dressed up Andiamo's. I really would have liked to try the food. It looks fantastic. John sure sounded like he was an interesting, personable guy with knowledge.... we did not get him either. We just got dismissed, put in a corner, and then offended. Worst Service received from an upscale restaurant in my life. We dined here with a party of 12 for my brother in laws bday. It took 20 min to be acknowledged to order a drink. It then proceeded to take 25 more minutes to get a simple Diet Coke. We spoke to the manager hoping things would get better and it just didn't . Appetizers came out , no plates. We had to constantly keep reminding the staff , plates please, any update on drinks etc. I feel bad because the staff was trying and it's not solely on them for slow drinks , etc. The bright spot was the food was good . The Statler is trying to be upscale but they are failing miserably . They better shape up the staff and get them up to speed on how fine dining is served. We had a $2000 bill and will never come back to this establishment. The icing on cake was when the bill came, 40 minutes elapsed by the time we got our cards back as there computer system was having an error. Save your self the money and go somewhere else . This is a beautiful restaurant in a fun part of town. I highly recommend for the food, service, and ambiance. Our server, Richard, was fun, knowledgeable and made our experience unforgettable. Richard recommended a wonderful bottle of wine and we enjoyed the evening's specials to share. The calamari was fried to perfection in a buerre blanc sauce and the Michigan inspired fall apple salad was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed both with the house bread and sea salted butter. My husband got a chicken special and I got the vegetarian entrée. All of the food is expertly prepared and the presentation is beautiful. The space is very comfortable and again our server, Richard, timed the meal perfectly. We are from out of town but will definitely come back to the Statler on our next visit to Deteoit. Our soup was good but the salad was unappetizing, the steak was flavorless; this was also the case for our mac & cheese, which was also oily and flavorless. Spending a good amount of money comes with at least modest expectations. After our meal and deciding that this was disappointing enough to tell the staff about, the owner arrived and explained that we should've "salted our steak and put it into a little bit of the other sauce". That is ridiculous. I don't have a problem with the fact that the food was awful because that sometimes comes with being a new restaurant. What I do have a problem with is that we felt slighted by the staff that works there because the owner unapologetically dismissed our comments. At the end, nothing was rectified. Yeah, I'll never be back. I really want restaurants that come into Detroit to be great, but as you can tell this experience was an absolute disappointment. read more

I was hoping for a good experience based on the straightforward menu that seemed to be packed with simple classics. There were some hits and some misses. The place is bustling and has a great vibe. We were courteously treated upon arrival despite having to wait for a table that a text 15 minutes earlier said was ready to go. Our waiter was attentive but kind of fumbled through the descriptions when asked about certain items. No biggy, but at this price point, the wait staff better know what's what and provide good direction. We ordered the steak tartare which tasted good but was not presented properly having a huge scotch egg on top that we struggled to mix in the meat. The accompaniments were just afterthoughts including stringy pickled red onions and tiny cornichons that seemed lost on the plate. Suggestion: flatten out the meat, dice the accompaniments present as an integral part of the plate with the scotch egg sliced on top as a primary supporting actor. The stale lavash that came with this dish was totally wrong, especially with the great french wheat knot roles available, that unfortunately, we had to ask for. I am sure there is always bread leftover from the previous day's service, why not slice and toast and present that instead?? The next course was the escargot. This was a lost opportunity. The snails although on the small side were good but lost in the sauce. The " garlic butter fondue" was excellent and saved this dish. The profiteroles are not a good match with a "fondue", a crisp puff pastry top would have been a better classic choice to sop up the great garlic butter. The profiteroles just mushed in the mouth. The tureen bowl this was served in was too deep and more suited to a soup than to an appetizer designed with the snails as a star attraction. We had to go fishing for the snails! But that sauce, er butter, er fondue was great and we insisted it be left on the table next to the great crusty rolls after the snails were gone. Then the disappointment of the evening....The French Onion Soup...this dish needs to be perfect in its execution or it easily becomes a disaster. This was a disaster. The soup it seems was made from sweet onions and perhaps something to quicken the caramelization instead of tediously taking the time to carmelize the onions properly. It tasted like sweet tomato soup with mushy onions. Believe it or not the onions in a french onion soup play a supporting role to the broth. In this case it was more a sweet onion gratin. Onion soup should always be brothy. The cheese, although melted all over the outside of the bowl left the part left inside collapsed into a golf ball size mass that sunk to the bottom when first attacked by a spoon, needless to say, it was a struggle to eat. Suggestion: use sturdier bread, (again the french roles, made into croutons would be perfect) and use a mix of cheeses, gruyere for flavor, muenster for "meltiness". The asparagus was good and well seasoned, no complaints here. The "frites" were delicious but for $9 most restaurants would give you more than 9 french fries. Yes, my daughter counted them, smh. The 20oz ribeye was well seasoned but was accompanied with lackluster sauces that were frankly odd accompaniments to a steak of this magnitude. It was well charred but underdone, not the medium rare we ordered. Oh well better under than over. This is a no no though for an almost $70 steak in any professional kitchen. We would come back here if invited but not be regulars based on this experience. Not something any restaurant wants to hear. But, hopefully, this review helps with the few things that we experienced. I like this place for what it's trying to do so I'm giving 3 stars for a decent effort and because the service was attentive. read more

First time at The Statler tonight. Lovely bartenders while we waited only a few minutes for our table. First red flag was when our waiter, who was trying very hard, asked one of us who wanted a Cabernet suggestion if he wanted more oak or more wood. He said he was asking for a Cabernet. Well, he ended up drinking the bottle of white the table ordered. My husband actually liked the red the waiter brought, no clue what it was, and drank it. Three out of four dinners were good, not great but good. My scallops were cooked very poorly. Not properly seared, well done, mushy and fishy. So very disappointing. The most expensive dish ordered. Desserts were a five of ten. Key lime pie and the chocolate mousse cake. We won't be back. A very expensive lesson. read more

Had a lovey dinner at the Statler. Kiara (Ki) was such a fun, welcoming, knowledgeable server. She recommended the french onion soup (the Beyonce of the menu) and I am grateful for that! Came here with my family and friends for my birthday dinner yesterday. The service was terrible for a place that pretends to be a fine dining establishment . The first waitress was very rude, it was clear she didn't want to deal with people or maybe she was unhappy with her job- hard to tell. She was short with us and kept brushing us off, so much so she'd walk away from us mid conversation. Food lacked flavor and we waited over an hour from when we placed our food order to get the main course. Waited a significant amount of time to get the bill as well. Really such a disappointing experience. I have never had such a poor experience with a wait staff especially spending the kind of money you spend at this restaurant. We were all dressed up to celebrate and weren't treated with smiles or even patience or any consideration for our enjoyment of the evening . read more

My Sis and I visited The Statler on a Wednesday evening be fore attending a concert. it was an Awesome experience. Our server Melissa was super attentive and well knowledged about the menu. To be honest her service is what make sme want to return for a second try. Unfortunately I had eaten before I came to the restaurant, which was not intentional and I was looking forward to trying something totally different than what I actually had. But I must say the tomato bisque was awesome and I ended up having the country salad that was super delicious. I look forward to going and visiting The Statler again with friends soon. read more

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in the Detroit area. It's an Andiamo's restaurant. You swear that you're in Paris when you're inside whether sitting at a table or sitting at the bar. First time at this newest restaurant for the owners of Andiamo. The really good: Margie, our bartender, as we chose to sit at the bar, was AWESOME! Great timing and an all around nice warm person. The good: beautiful decor. Great lighting. Wine selection was eclectic and different from what you would see in a number of restaurants downtown. One of the managers stopped by and introduced himself and made sure we were happy with the experience and attention we were getting. In fact, all of the staff that we came in contact with were all great. Chose the pate appetizer and other than the length of time that it took to get to us was very good. The bad: noticed only some of the staff chose to wear masks and that included the chefs. Asked why and was told that it was their choice. No mgmt directive. OK, I know that some people are going to have a contrary opinion about this. I just felt that if you were choosing to dine here, you should be apprised of this. As much as I would like to go back, I can't do it with the spike in Covid being what it is. Disappointed and uncomfortable with the choice, especially seeing members of the kitchen not masked. This venue will have to wait for a return visit, until times are safer. Hopefully soon. read more

The bartender Chris was very nice and food was decent. The assistant chef who was heading the kitchen that night came out and argued with a customer who complained her steak was the wrong temperature and too salty. She was French Canadian and was in town and traveled over 20 miles in an Uber to go to the French restaurant and get a steak. That chef needs to be demoted and not allowed to talk to customers. read more

I had high hopes for this establishment, unfortunately it's another new restaurant in the city of Detroit that is cold and unwelcoming to the "original" residents of Detroit. Food is also mediocre at best. Lastly, beware, they have a crazy cancellation policy. My flight was cancelled like so many others due to the Flight crew shortage. I moved my reservation to the following week. We came, ate, left, and I received a $200 charge for changing the reservation. Was never told I couldn't move the ressy. This is a special place and sorely needed in my opinion. There are a ton of terrific newer restaurants in Detroit, not much in the way of meticulously prepared French cuisine. And I felt everything was meticulous. Cocktails were very good. The wine list is extensive and has an wide selection from top self to quite affordable. We both had fish entrees and asked the waitperson to select a white. She brought a Sancerre that I believe was off menu, and it was excellent. We had the mussels/frites appetizer. The mussels were cooked perfectly. They were tender without a trace of chewiness. I noted one of the chefs specialized in breads, which was presented like a stalk of wheat. The warm fresh bread was perfect for dipping in buttery mussel liquor. I had the "not so simple" fish (sole) which was lightly fried in a remarkably thin, light batter. I My fried fish which was sauced with butter and olive oil was not greasy (!). I'm not sure how that was physically possible. With olives, capers, and heirloom tomatoes, I really enjoyed it. I was interested in the lamb shank, short rib, and bouillabaisse but was happy with my choice and will be happy to explore the menu on future trips. The staff was very attentive. We had 2 different managers stop at our table. I also have to say the setting and perspective of our table was really nice. There was a baseball doubleheader and hockey game. Looking across Grand Circus Park at the bustling city was wonderful. read more

My friend and I arrived at the Statler last night at 10:23PM. The Statler closes at 11:00PM. Understanding, we knew that we had to order quickly if we wanted to eat. The very bad experience started at the door. We were greeted by an older gentleman who immediately informed us that we had only 30 minutes until they closed - wow, thanks for the reminder. Additionally, he let us know that we could only sit at bar tables. Irritated, I walked towards the bar then returned to the host stand to ask "where are the bar tables"? (I think he assumed that we automatically knew). He gladly pointed to where the tables we should be sitting at. Sitting at the bar tables continued the experience that ended a day that started off fun. After seemly 10 minutes of us watching the bartender go from person to person we left the tables then sat at the bar. Since I can't prove that the older gentleman bartender saw us at the table I will assume that when he looked at us he thought we had already been served. Twenty minutes wasted, now we feel pressured to order. We got a soup, because it wouldn't take so long, but at that point I was already so turned off by the terrible experience. I had to ask for bread - not sure if it automatically comes with a soup order. The bread took another what seemed like 10 minutes. The bartender said that they had to bake more bread (nope, they were not closed yet). The bread was cold and hard. I was so upset! The manager came to speak with me, unfortunately, I totally didn't want to go through the whole thing again. His staff was WAY too comfortable acting that way. I will end it here. If anyone wants dinner there they say close at 11:00 PM l, but the host candidly explained to my friend that if you want decent service you should arrive by 9:45PM. So, there yiu go... close at 11. but get whatever you get after 10:00PM. read more

Both the manager and the owner checked on us. Great wine list and so enjoyed our food. No time for dessert as we had concert tickets. Food and atmosphere were generally lovely and we enjoyed our visit. We were planning on returning for date nights periodically and had been recommending it to friends. However we will never return because of how they handled our parking situation. The restaurant states that parking in the connected Metropolis garage is free. The employee in the parking garage stated it was free as well because the restaurant covers the fee. When we paid and left the restaurant they reminded us parking should be free. Guess what showed up in the mail recently? A parking ticket with a $90 fine because the restaurant did not cover our parking as promised. We called the restaurant who refused to help and told us to deal with the parking company directly. Parking company said to talk to the restaurant since it was their error. Shocking how some companies still haven't learned that poor service and condescending attitudes while on the phone will lose you customers every time. There are enough good restaurants in Detroit - I would recommend going to a different one to save yourself a surprise headache later. Bar Pigelle is similar to this one if you want French flair. This place is fine but definitely isn't worth the potential hassle. read more

We tried The Statler for our anniversary dinner & had high hopes based off of existing reviews. The cocktail I had was delicious, as well as the French onion soup, & cocktail shrimp. The "a La carte" steak was listed on the menu to have black peppercorn, I underestimated the amount of black peppercorn on this steak. The amount of pepper completely overpowered the taste of the meat, and honestly made it difficult for me to eat in general. It was such an excessive amount of pepper. Everything else was delicious, would still love to go back and try something else! Beware if you order the steak. read more

I wish I could comment on the quality of dinner but unfortunately we had to leave before it was served. Our party of 4 was seated at 4:50 (4:45 reservation time, we did apologize for being late). We told our server from the outset that we needed to leave by 6:50 to make it to a show at the FOX by 7. Drinks served shortly after 5, at which time we ordered salads and main course. Salads served at 5:45. An hour and five minutes later, at 6:50, still with no entrees, we had no choice but to pay for our salads and drinks and leave. Kind server who did her best to personally make it right. But no visit to our table from management, no apology, nothing. The food and drinks we did receive were fine, but nothing noteworthy. Bread was good but would have asked for more had we known it would be essentially the entire meal. This restaurant is clearly VERY understaffed and incapable of accommodating current reservation levels. Should consider scaling appropriately to provide a consistent experience. Almost certainly will not return. read more
