9.7/10 -- One of the best meals I've had in Detroit I went to Marrow in the Market in Eastern Market for our anniversary, and WOW. This place seriously knows how to make food. We started with the Marrow Charcuterie Board and Roasted Bone Marrow, and I have to say... I had never had bone marrow before and I was NOT prepared for how insanely good it would be. The marrow was rich, silky, savory, and absolutely delicious with the grilled sourdough. If you've never tried bone marrow, this is a pretty incredible introduction. What I love most about Marrow is their whole philosophy around food. They're deeply rooted in farm-to-table, responsible sourcing, whole-animal butchery, and working with regional farmers, and you can genuinely taste the quality. There's something really special about knowing the restaurant is paying attention to where its ingredients come from rather than just throwing food on a plate. For our mains, we had the Picanha, which was SO flavorful and had that perfect richness you want from a cut like this. We also ordered the fish, which came with an absolutely outstanding curry sauce - easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. And then the beef-tallow-fried Market Fries... WOW. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, garlicky, and just the right amount of indulgent. I could have eaten an entire second order. I was honestly getting ridiculously full because everything was so good, but obviously we had to keep going . I asked our server to pair a wine with the meat and they absolutely nailed it. I also had a Chartreuse-based cocktail that was really well done. The food quality here is NEXT LEVEL. Everything tasted intentional, fresh, and incredibly well executed. This is exactly the type of restaurant that makes me want to seek out more farm-to-table restaurants because you really can taste the difference when the ingredients and sourcing are taken seriously. My only two complaints: 1. We specifically mentioned that it was our anniversary when making the reservation, and nobody acknowledged it. I wasn't expecting anything crazy, but at this price point and for a special occasion, I do think it would have been nice to at least have someone say "Happy Anniversary" or offer a small complimentary dessert/glass of champagne. A lot of nicer restaurants do this, so I was a little disappointed. 2. It is definitely pricey. Cocktails were around $20+, and this is not a casual "let's grab dinner" price point. BUT -- I completely understand the pricing given the quality, sourcing, labor, and overall experience. Still, 9.7/10 from me. The missing .3 is strictly for the anniversary acknowledgment and the price. Would absolutely come back, and I'm already interested in trying more of what they're doing here. This restaurant is on the second floor. Signage could be a little clearer on that. We just asked on the meat shop and he directed us appropriately. Once upstairs the host was VERY nice. Explained reservations were needed for Sunday brunch which we didn't know. He advised we could dine at the bar if space was available. While speaking space for two became available, so we sat. That was the END of our customer service. The bar seats six people. The tables in the bar area were all empty. There were two people behind the bar. So you can see there is truly NO reason for the lack of service we received. We had to flag the bartender to get a menu, flag him again to place our drink order, once again to take our food order and a fourth time to alert them that their specialty drink for the day was MISSING the key ingredient of vernors. (Seriously). There was no offer of a refill to our drink, no check in to see how we liked the drinks while we waited for food, no check in once the food arrived. We had to flag the for a fifth time to get our check and wait another we mins for them to pick it up. Abysmal service and inexcusable to be frank As amazing as the food was ( and it was very tasty) the lack of service will make me not only refuse to spend money here again, I also won't recommend them to a soul. My family and I had an incredible dinner at Marrow in the Market recently. Started off by sharing the Bone Marrow and the Duck Wings, and both were fantastic. I haven't had bone marrow often and it was absolutely divine. While the duck wings had a great balance of flavor and texture that made them impossible to stop eating and I ended up eating the majority of them and was a bit full going into the entrees. To drink, I ordered the Pear Trade cocktail, which was one of the highlights of the evening. It was refreshing and well-balanced, with subtle fruit notes and just enough complexity to make it interesting without overpowering the meal. I'd even enjoy this as a mocktail, it was just absolutely delicious :) For our entrées, I ordered the Steak Frites, my mom had the Roasted Chicken, and my grandfather went with the Pork Chop. Every plate that came out looked amazing, and after trading a few bites around the table, it was clear there wasn't a weak dish in the bunch. The steak was cooked perfectly with an amazing sear and tremendous flavor. My highlight would have to be the Tempura Fried Mushrooms with that we ordered as a side for the entrees, and honestly, those could have been worth ordering on their own. They were light, crunchy, and a perfect complement to the entrées. The service was outstanding throughout the evening. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and helped make the meal feel special without ever being overbearing. A restaurant with a butcher market in the same building doesn't have burger patties. Huh? I'm sure you're wondering where the punchline is. Surely this is a joke right. Uhhhhh... NOPE. Tried going for brunch. We were seated at 1:45. I had to go up to the host a little after 2:00 (MORE THAN 15 minutes after being seated) because no one had come up to us. The host was apologetic and came by to give us water. Our waitress finally arrived a couple minutes after. Not a great start. I had my eyes on the burger. Literally why I came to this place. When our waitress showed up, we thought it was best to order food based on how slow it had been. I was told they were out of the burger so I said I needed a minute. I was a bit confused how they could be out of that. When our waitress came back after about 5 minutes, I asked why they couldn't make the burger. No patties. They didn't have patties. I actually laughed in her face. What a ridiculous concept. There is an actual butcher shop owned by MARROW right next door. It's in the SAME BUILDING (see photos). THEY HAVE THE PATTIES THAT GO ON THE BURGER. LITERALLY A TWENTY SECOND WALK. We left after being told that. So, I really enjoyed myself soaking in the atmosphere and people watching. I do not eat beef or pork, so that narrowed my selections down tremendously. If you are someone who has a lot of dietary restrictions I wouldn't recommend coming here. What I did get I thoroughly enjoyed...the yogurt parfait and the pumpernickel bagel. I'm hoping since the brunch portion is newer, as it starts to get more traction they'll add more dietary inclusive items. As I watched others food come out everything looked amazing. We have enjoyed dining at Marrows inn Kercheval. A friend suggested Marrows in the Market Atmosphere is light Jazz vibe in Loft like setting Which I Loved Lunch is served the Bar. 1st come. Went to Eastern Market to take part in the Vernors Anniversary celebration. While walking around attempting to get out of the rain and possibly get something to eat we happened upon Marrow. What a find. Quite delightful. The restaurant is upstairs above the market. Accessible via elevator or stairs. It was very busy, they had a special menu featuring items made with Vernors. We did not have a reservation. The staff accommodated us by squeezing us in between reservations. We promised we would be finished before the guests arrived. The service was quick the food was delicious. We made it out as promised and we were not rushed. Everyone in our party agreed we will return. I will be returning for the chicken and waffles. They ran out by the time we'd gotten there. I was informed that their Brunch is quite popular. I would say the decor/ feel has a chic minimalist hip vibe . I walked around and viewed their event space. Took note as it would be a really nice place to hold events. I particularly liked that you could wash your hands without entering the lavatory, very convenient. I could go on but I'm writing a review not a book. We wondered what this building was used before. I've been going down to Eastern Market for years but never ventured to this corner. We went on a Monday night. When I made the reservations, they offered "standard" and "Paella Night." I figured it was going to be paella no matter what and I was right. Monday nights are paella nights. I expected only seafood paella, but they also offered Valencia (pork, chicken, and sausage) and cauliflower paella. The paella was very good. The sausage was especially flavorful. The pork ribs were well-rendered which I appreciated but a bit dry too. Since it was their first Paella Night, I'm sure they will tweek this. (Thought for the kitchen: partially submerging the ribs in the broth/rice might help keep them moist.) Cocktails were strong and on point, the appetizers were appropriately sized, and parking was easy. Staff was friendly and the venue is elegant. I'm planning to go again. If I could only eat at one restaurant in Detroit for the rest of my life, it might just have to be Marrow in the Market. The waitress was not only super friendly, but extremely helpful as we were a party of 8 and it was all of our first time being there. I started off with an espresso martini (one of the best I've had in the city). We ordered a few starters which included the Bread Du Jour, Twice Baked Potato, Baked Brie, Market Wedge Salad, and the Roasted Heirloom Cauliflower. All were exceptional and perfect! For entrees, we had the Bone-In Short Rib, Picanha, Smoked Half Chicken, and Dry-Aged Pork Chop. All of which again, were exceptional and perfect. My husband and I attended the Marrow in The Market Dinner & Music Series - Mardi Gras w/ Paxton Spangler. Overall, it was a really fun evening. The band was great, and so was the food for the most part. The first course consisted of gulf shrimp, sauce étouffée, creole giardiniera and white bread. The texture of this unique dish was very similar to the Shrimp Toast found in Chinese restaurants. It was buttery and flavorful. The second course was "dirty" potatoes" with duck fat-confit fingerlings, chicken liver mousse, caramelized onion, herbs, pickled shallot, and chives. I loved this dish. The chicken liver mousse was my favorite part. The main course was Michigan Lamb Gumbo, with house andouille, popcorn rice, and scallion. When I read this description, I was expecting a soup. What came out was more like a deconstructed gumbo - with the slices of lamb meat and sausage, accompanied by a very flavorful sauce and the rice on the side. This was excellent, though I could have used more sauce. The only misstep of the dinner was the dessert - Sourdough beignets with chocolate sauce. The beignets had an unpleasant sour texture that didn't go with the chocolate sauce. I only ate one bite of this. My only other quibble with this dinner was all courses is that both courses came out on one plate, and we had to separate them into two portions. I didn't care for that because a lot of sauce got left on the shared plate, which seemed like a waste. read more

Loved my experience for a birthday dinner at Marrow in the Market with our group of friends. We had a party of 10 and everyone from the host to the kitchen was extremely friendly and accommodating. Jessica our server had amazing suggestions (the espresso martini was amaze) for both food and drinks. Great menu and portions for sharing with other people. We had the Caesar salad, rotating butcher cut which was an 8oz flat iron steak, pork chop, charred broccolini (my fav) and frites. Some of our group indulged in the bone marrow (they said was do flavorful and rich), the walleye and bone in short rib. The first good sign was when I got there I seen two of my friends at the bar (no invite yall know who yall is shame on yall) they hadn't got they food but was just excited as we was about trying this joint. So I'm already on they team before my meal come. When my meal came it was everything I thought it was. Marrow is a new restaurant in Eastern Market. There are a few other locations in the area as well. We had plans to spend the day in Detroit and started off here for lunch. You could smell the meat cooking from down the street. So fragrant! When you enter, it is like a butcher shop. Then you can go over into the bar area. The downstairs bar area opens for lunch but the main dining area is upstairs and only open for dinner. Our bartender was amazing. So sweet and attentive. We enjoyed a couple of beers and cocktails to start and then looked over the lunch menu. The lunch menu is limited but everything sounded delicious. We split the rotisserie chicken. It was plenty for two people. We got the 5 piece meal and still had left overs. This appeared to be a popular choice as everyone seemed to have the chicken. It was absolutely fantastic! They were going to let us go upstairs to take a peek but then there was an accident with one of their employees that ended in an ambulance being called. I really wanted to enjoy this place because the atmosphere and concept seemed unique, but unfortunately the experience fell far below expectations. First, the restaurant was very difficult to find, which caused us to arrive late for our reservation. The drink menu was extremely eccentric. My best friend did not enjoy her drink at all, and I noticed many guests around us ordering drinks that were not even listed on the menu (mimosas, coffees, other cocktails), which made it seem like most people were avoiding the actual drink menu altogether. The biggest issue was the wait time for food. We waited 76 minutes for brunch food. Around the 63-minute mark, our waitress briefly apologized and mentioned there were "technical issues," but there was no real effort made to improve the situation. No appetizer was offered, no updates were given, and meanwhile we watched several other tables receive their food, eat, and leave. At that point, I had to ask for the manager myself. The manager and head chef both came over and apologized, and to their credit, the manager did comp our meal, which is the reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. Unfortunately, when the food finally arrived, it still didn't feel worth the wait. My steak was not hot, the eggs were flattened like patties, and the overall presentation and experience just felt inconsistent. I truly appreciate the manager attempting to make things right, but overall the experience was disappointing and extremely poorly paced for brunch service. read more

Monday is paella night, and while I would have preferred the pescaterian option, that didn't work for my friend so we opted for the beef ribs and chicken thighs. There's also a veggie option. Tapas of garlic-rubbed bread slices with tomato and Parmesan was an outstanding starter. Artisanal bread was seedy, fresh and delicious Paella plate was hot and generous, served with fresh lemon and house-made aioli. Well curated wine list, and some unusual brewed options. Amazing food and drinks in an historic building in Eastern Market, Detroit. Our server was phenomenal, helping to choose the perfect wine for my palate that complimented the trout very nicely. The appetizers of the mushrooms and tartare were amazing. The hot sauce yolk really added a nice element to tartare that I had not had before. I don't typically write reviews, but this was disappointing. Our table ordered multiple entrées, sides, salads, and wine, and almost every dish came out cold; steaks and pork chops included. Only the twice baked potato was warm enough to not feel like it was sitting out. With so many excellent restaurants in this city, this one falls well short of expectations. For the amount of money that you are paying for your meal, $75, the portions aren't generous. You get 1/2 of a deviled egg, 1/2 of a baked potato, you share a small portion of bread amongst 4 people. We had to ask for additional bread, as it wasn't readily offered or replenished. The bread, appetizer, and egg were tasty, but the charred broccoli wasn't appetizing. The wedge salad was tasty but our portions were on the small. My cut of prime rib wasn't exceptional. We were on a time constraint, so I didn't want to have to wait for another piece of meat. One other person at the table did reject his prime rib and got a better portion. I didn't really like the cheesecake with the apples on top of it. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. Maybe offer different options for the dessert selection. We were there the first weekend in December. read more
