    Steads Smashburger and waffle fries.

I've been working my own pop up food business about 20 feet from Steads for a few months. So the other day I did it. I got their smashburger with waffle fries. Their smashburger was, seriously, the best burger I've had anywhere in Hawaii. Cooked to perfection. Juicy. Delicious. OMG kinda delicious!!! If you haven't had their burger, you are missing the boat. They are usually at the entrance to Bellows on Saturday and Sunday, until around 3pm. But they're usually sold out around then, so go early and enjoy the island's best smashburger. And their waffle fries with mayo and aiole sauce is the perfect combination to their smashburgers.

Really good burgers! The smash burgers have a good crust on them, and the mustard-mayonaise mix takes me back to childhood. Love the grilled onions! The waffle fries are big and delicious, and both of the sauces drizzled on top are great too. They complement each other with sweet, salty, and creamy. Service is excellent, and I'm super grateful that our group ordered from The Steads for an event. The family that owns this truck is super nice. Support a Native Hawaiian-owned business that makes great food!

They have their truck parked at the entrance of Bellows in Waimanalo, I believe on the weekends only. There is alot of parking. The couple that run the truck are locals from Waimanalo and are so friendly. They have Smash burgers, Waffle fries and Hot dogs. The price of their food is super reasonable and affordable. We ordered the Smashbuger with waffle fries and a hotdog. The Burger was cooked medium rare and it was perfect. The waffle fries are salty and drizzled with their sauce. Super good and very plentiful. The hotdog was a polish dog with mustard Mayo sauce and grilled onions. The food is delicious and I suggest you try it. Beats going to Jack in the box.

The food always hits and for an affordable price too, in my opinion! You can get a combo smash burger with waffles fries for $13 and hotdog for $5. Sometimes they run out of waffle fries and give curly fries. I have yet to try that! But the burger is always so juicy and packed with flavor. The waffle fries are seasoned so well, and the sauce just makes it even better! Located at the front entrance at Bellows beach. Def one of our go-to's! Oh, and the service... they're just so kind!!

Waffle fries are yummy and plentiful

This is the only spot to visit to truly satisfy your smash burger craving! Their smash burgers and waffle fries are on point! I make a trip out to Bellows just to eat here....so tasty...the quality is amazing coming from a food truck, tastes like good restaurant quality! The waffle fries are very hot & crispy, the burger is mouthwatering, and everything is packed with flava!

I recommend getting their gravy on the side. You can then dunk your chicken in it- while still keeping your chicken crispy! I didn't care so much for the Mac salad imo- I'd ask for all rice, but definitely give it a try if you can't have a plate lunch w/o mac salad. It was a long wait. I think I waited more than an hour my first time. When I arrived my second time around, I got in line before they even arrived! I was still #10 I think. Took maybe 30mins but definitely worth the wait if you love your fried chicken crispy! I have yet to try their poke and beef stew (and other items they feature. Cash only!!!

Apparently they're known for their chicken- of which you can choose between original, garlic, ranch, spicy, furikake, or gravy. They get really busy so be sure to go early. People often order bulk orders too... and unfortunately they seem to take orders in rounds... So I stood 3rd in line waiting to order for nearly 40 min before they even took the first guy's order. Of course they must have taken a first round earlier as I arrived 30 min after they opened... My work day is quite busy and I'm impatient by nature so I did not appreciate standing around for 40 minutes just to wait to order. Then I hear her telling someone it's another 40 minutes for their food. I don't expect it to be quick to be honest, but would have wanted the opportunity to place an order. I was getting angrier and angrier by the second. They need to be more upfront and post on their truck that they take orders in phases so expect to wait 30min + to place your order. ESPECIALLY when you come downtown ... because majority of us are in the middle of our workdays and not able to spend our entire hour just waiting to order. It's inconsiderate and downright rude. I ended up walking away just as they were starting to take orders again because I don't want to support them and I don't have time to wait another 40 minutes when I've already spent over 45 minutes out of the office just waiting to order (plus my walk time). No food (especially heart attack inducing food) is worth that. Arghhh I can't recall the last time I've been so angry and irritated. I always say expectations are everything. Never be surprised by the price... I'm also not surprised when my food takes a long time to be ready... but first time I was surprised to wait 40 minutes to place an order when im only 3rd in line...because they're just not taking orders. PUT A SIGN UP! So those of us who don't have 2 hour lunch breaks can plan accordingly!

This isn't a sit-down restaurant--it's a local walk-up spot where you order at the window, pick up your food, and enjoy it at the outdoor seating area. It's simple, relaxed, and full of local charm. Keneke's has been serving the community for many years, and despite all the changes and new competition, they continue to do what they've always done: serve delicious local food with genuine aloha. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the food is consistently satisfying. Whether you're a local or just visiting the island, it's one of those places that makes you feel welcome. What stands out even more than the food is the people. Every time I've been there, I've been treated with kindness, humility, and genuine aloha. One day I only wanted a small chicken salad that wasn't on the menu, and they happily made one just for me. They even worked with my limited budget instead of turning me away. That's the kind of customer service that stays with you. I've also seen how they support the local community by giving opportunities to people who are struggling or who might have a hard time finding work elsewhere. Businesses with that kind of heart deserve to be recognized. When people ask me where to grab a quick bite in Waimānalo, Keneke's is my recommendation every time. As for Kalapawai, my own experience has been different. I found the portions to be smaller for the price, and because of my personal experiences there, I no longer recommend it. Others may have different experiences, but for me, I'd rather support a longtime local business that has consistently shown kindness, generosity, and the true spirit of aloha. Mahalo to everyone at Keneke's for serving great food, treating people with respect, and keeping the aloha spirit alive. I'll gladly continue recommending you to both locals and visitors.

Using Yelp's Mobile Food Trucks search will identify them but you need to use another app to actually find out where they are. I ran across them on a weekend in my neighborhood and stopped by. The food is a fusion of Peruvian and Laotian by husband-wife team, Juan Ching and Kim Thepsenavong. There is a long history of Japanese cuisine fusing with Peruvian - it's called Nikkei. But other Asian cuisines, especially Southeast Asian, also blend seamlessly with Peruvian staples. Think about the heavy use of pepper and spice in Laotian cuisine. You've been in restaurants where the heat scale is hot, Thai hot, and Laotian hot. Peppers were only introduced into Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Peru is one of the recognized birthplaces of peppers, with over 300 varieties and a 7,500 year history of cultivation. Peruvian Laotian fusion works when you do it right. I had a beef anticuchos skewers plate with Laotian accompaniments. The anticuchos had a nice smokey sweet dark color from aji panca paste. The rice was Laotian, with black and white grains of sticky rice. There was pickled Laotian som pak, a vinegar marinated mustard cabbage. A fine blended salsa-like jeow mak len, full of charred tomato smokiness, savory paedek fish sauce, garlic, shallot, bird's eye chiles, and lime, was terrific on top of the marinated beef. I hope I run into Khao and Papas again one day so I can try their grilled chicken. Until then, I have the memory of a fine take-out plate of Peruvian Laotian fusion comfort food.
