    Kalbi and Mochiko Chicken
    Peter C.

The best local plate spot and a must go every time on the island! We love Kailua and Lanikai area and will make an effort to come here when we visit Oahu. The portions are huge and the food is always cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The Mochiko chicken is the best bite, it's crispy yet fluffy and has good flavor! Kalbi is marinated well and not too sweet. Katsu has a lovely crunch and the sauce on the side is good. The hamburger patty and gravy were seasoned well and is just a great bite with the creamy egg. Mac salad is refreshing and has good flavor. The staff is super friendly, and we love the hole in the wall vibe. Until next time!

Mom and pop plate lunch spot in the plaza with kayak rentals and Island Snow. Food is decent and hits the spot when you're hungry after the beach. Not quite destination dining though. Fair portion for price. One man/woman at the cashier managing the front. A few tables, chairs, and underpowered AC for dine in guests. At least there's a decent shared bathroom for the plaza.

OMG...so yummy! Stopped in after hiking Koko Head, but before Kailua beach for some lunch and my teriyaki chicken plate lunch and husband charsui plate lunch was so good. They have an extensive menu of local favorites. Now let me be honest, K and K Bar-B-Que is tucked away in a little strip mall. The restaurant is tiny, and honestly not the cleanest either, but the food is delish! And I would be remiss by not adding how great the owner is. She's so sweet, and made sure our lunch came out fast.

Ambiance: casual. There are a few tables for indoor dining Service: friendly and quick. Took about 10-15 mins for 6 combo plates to go Food: bbq short ribs were very good! - tender and flavorful. I wasn't expecting fried garlic shrimp so that threw me off a bit. It was nice that the shrimp was peeled though. Parking: plaza lot

I've gotten take out from here a few times but my coworkers have picked it up so I can't speak to what it looks like inside or service. Food is pretty good. The mixed plate is got was packed. -I really like their mac salad -Cheeseburger deluxe was good -Somethings their fries (crinkle) is cooked too long but generally good -Saimin is pretty standard but they used good char siu. Wish had green onions in it. - lemon chicken also good -spicy chicken wings not bad but also not spicy to me

This place is great and the service is super fast and I love the authentic feeling in there.

This is a hidden gem in Kailua, tucked away by the kayak business. The owners are really nice, what seems to be popular here is the chicken katsu and local moco although I have not eaten it. I enjoy their teri beef sandwich because the meat is marinated perfect and tender. The fries are always made fresh and hot. Today, our sandwich bun was a little old so the bun was a little crumbly, pretty sad. Being in a "tourist" spot, prices are on the higher side. There are a few tables in and outdoor seating to enjoy your food. A little hike in the wall place but ono grinds!

Combo plate (garlic fish and garlic chicken)

Was running errands in town and decided to look on Yelp for cheap lunch ideas. Came across this place and saw a lot of good reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered a bbq cheeseburger, and a combo plate (garlic fish and garlic chicken). In total it came to about $22 BBQ CHEESEBURGER: my husband and I took a little bite of this before giving it to our kids to share for a snack, and we were surprised of how delicious and flavorful it was! I'd probably be back just for this lol. The meat is well cooked yet not dry, and the sauce inside is delicious. COMBO PLATE (GARLIC FISH AND GARLIC CHICKEN): when ordering this, I was thinking that the dishes would be cooked in a wet type of garlic sauce, but it was actually both deep fried with a garlic seasoning powder. Still both delicious :) this was able to feed 2 adults no problem (though, to be fair, I wasn't able to eat too much as eating fried food doesn't fare well with my stomach lol) The cashier was a really sweet older lady, and while this isn't a place to really sit down and eat, I definitely recommend this place for a cheap and filling lunch! We will definitely be back for that burger and to try other things as well.

First timer, but instantly became a forever customer. The Mac salad is exactly what Mac salad is supposed to taste like. The meat is seasoned perfectly and soo delicious. My daughter also loved the cheeseburger and fries. We phone ordered when we were about 7-10 minutes away and by the time we got there our food was ready. It's a great local spot you have to try out. Parking is a little small, but you can just grab and go!

BBQ Mixed Plate was SO GOOOOD.

The food was SO good! We didn't have to wait long at all. The service was great too. I would definitely come again.

Could've ordered a whole plate of just garlic shrimp-- amazing. Great local spot right near the beach.

    Garlic Chicken/Hamburger Steak plate

Finally went here today to try the Garlic chicken. Got the garlic chicken/ hamburger steak combo. First of all the lady in front kinda rough on the edges. Kinda pushy too. Anyway maybe that's just her type. As for the garlic chicken, it's like puffy batter and kinda bland. Couldn't really taste the garlic. Kinda like the shrimp canton batter at a Chinese place. I was expecting maybe like a sweeter shoyu garlic sauce on the chicken and then maybe would be better. All I tasted was like oily puffiness. The hamburger steak was okay. Kinda small couple of pieces but lacking more gravy. Run of the mill like most places. The best thing was the Mac salad, kinda good. Garlic chicken (5/10). Hamburger steak (6/10). Mac (7/10). Lady in front (5/10). Aloha.

Mochi Ko Chicken & side mac salad

Delicious food, quick service, and a quaint restaurant. This place was highlighted on a YT video for their mochiko chicken and it was on point. It was a huge serving, chicken was perfectly cooked, and super flavorful.

I would share a photo but it's currently passing through my digestive system and not feeling very photogenic at the moment. Ignore that silly disgusting mess attached to my original review, but I will leave the photos up because I think they are instructive for management. Mission Accomplished Kono's Kailua! Not a criticism but I couldn't communicate with the Uber Eats driver through the website app. Whoever it was found me.

If you…read morewant to impress your family and friends with restaurant recommendations in the area, this should be your #1 spot on your list. I've seen their menu evolve over the years. They have settled in on a simpler menu, but they do everything well. I figure I can share some important tips: 1) Highly recommend calling your order in. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a long time and clog the parking lot. 2) Use the Yelp Reviews to determine what you can/cannot modify. But hence why calling in your order is recommended. 3) If you plan to order late, I don't recommend ordering less than 30 minutes before closing. They get bombarded everyday, so they might close the kitchen early to fulfill the remaining orders. They may squeeze you in, but again, this is the benefit of calling in your order in advance. Bottom line: Call in your order in advance and you'll be rewarded with an amazing meal!
