The Story Bar probably delivers a better experience than was offered to me during my first visit. I came through the restaurant hoping for a late bite to eat. The hotel restaurant wasn't seating at 9:15pm.
I chose the club sandwich - it suggested some promising fillers with the southern rock lobster and applewood smoked chicken, the price certainly promised a killer delight. I love the way club sandwiches pull the random flavours together with a mixturous mouthful. The MacQ 01 Club didn't hit the $38 spot. I can get a $17 club special at my local cafe that hits the mark for value, freshness and flavour. For $38 I either want the lobster clawing at my face as I chew on its sandwhichy home or for some other magic to occur. After all, the restaurant only meters away has beautiful lamb and steak on offer for marginally more coin. I could not distinguish the aforementioned Southern Rock Lobster. Maybe the premature closure of the kitchen and extended delay in service of food had them scrounging for the dregs in the shell. And just maybe, the bread could be fluffy and exotic like you might expect from a Japanese toasted sandwich. It was dry and thin like it was reserved and toasted after being left behind after the lunch service.
It's not all bad though! I did enjoy some Chardonnay and Tasmanian Rye while I hung out here. I suspect drinks are why you come here. I did love the fullness of rosemary in the fries but other than that I simply can't recommend the food. The atmosphere is good, the location is stunning. Maybe my almost $40 plate helped pay the rent a little. read more
