Food 3 Service 3 There was a miss on the hospitality service tonight. We were constantly asking for water, utensils, and attentive service. Not sure if they were short-staffed, but we were utterly disappointed with the experience. For the price point, we expected elevated service for a party of 10 with a mandatory 20% gratuity. I'm not going to blame the servers, as I feel like the service is a reflection of management and how they train and execute the experience for customers. Management, please make sure the glasses are full and that when serving dishes, we have the proper utensils. Now the food , I loved my dish, but my husband and sister did not like theirs. read more

Fun, stunning & relaxing. I had the best server!! I came in hungover looking a bit haggard and I was treated like royalty. The window view is so nice and the overall establishment is gorgeous. The good: This is a beautiful beach that's great for surfing, dolphin watching, fishing off of the pier, taking photos under the pier, people watching, bike riding, walking, picnicking, roller skating, etc. There are tons of restaurants and shopping spots walking distance from here. There's metered parking everywhere. There are lots of volleyball nets set up as well. I saw a few dolphins bouncing around this area. The bad: It can get pretty crowded. The interesting: Sunsets here are magical. Seeing the sunset on the horizon with the deep ocean colors and smooth beach made me feel like I was watching some nostalgic music video about a California SoCal surf youth I didn't have. The Strand Manhattan Beach - Big volleyball tournament this weekend - Beaches Near Me

There is always something going on @ The Strand in Manhattan Beach. Surrounded with some pretty solid restaurants and shopping spots located in the South Bay, this is the higher-end of living compared to Hermosa, Redondo and Torrance. My favorite thing to do is go biking on the Strand and look at the multi-million dollar homes closest to the sand or ride through the maze of streets between the gorgeous buildings and houses in the area. Summers in this area are so much fun. Just grab your bathing suit, put on your flip flops, perhaps bring your bike, some cash and a hoodie for later and you're good to go. Grab a drink at the bar and check out some of the major events the hold in and around the pier. It's perfect to walk The Strand or if you prefer, lots of great people watching, too. I'll start off with this - Many years ago (close to 40, hence my age), I had an uncle that worked at the old Rockwell Plant and lived out here in Manhattan Beach. I fell in love back then!!! I use to go visit him a lot in my preteen years, which was the 80's and you can not imagine how awesome Manhattan Beach must have been back then - I sound like a geek, but it was truly "magical". Till this very day, I feel the exact same way when I come out here. A great place to walk! You can choose how long and far or how short. You got a lot of alternatives, the main one being from Hermosa to Manhattan pier(s) and back; or Hermosa to El Segundo, etc. From what I read on a sign in El Segundo, you can go as far as Santa Monica - I'm almost positive that would be best on bike. I've only walked the full 10 miles from tip of Redondo/Hermosa to just at end of Dockweiler beach. **UPDATE: They extended the Hermosa/Redondo border (Herondo St.) all the way to Redondo Pier! Uncle's long passed by the way, but Manhattan Beach strand hasn't. "Oh Yay!!!" It's just amazing! And I'm not one to just blurt that out in public, but unless you've lived under rock all your life, this place is just simply "amazing!!" I love it!!! I feel safe when I'm out here, that is the one big plus. I love the beauty, how clean it is, how respectful the people are, the beautiful homes to stare at while I'm walking, nature and being one with God, while staring at the ocean and stretching my arms out. (Yes, that was a serious remark). I also love watching the planes take off from LAX, while working my way towards El Segundo/Dockweiler. This place has the best of everything; you can go work out and play and when your done you can reward yourself with food and drink. There's tons of parking throughout, just drive around and you'll find it. Be prepared to pay. It's worth it though. The strand itself is pleasant, it divides itself into one separate area for pedestrians and separate area for bicycles. You can tell who the local residents are, as they are so respectful and share the strand with everyone that visits; All they ask for, is that you come, respect it, show some courtesy by getting along and exercise some proper etiquette/manners. Believe it or not, that actually works here. I even feel safe here at night. But as the times are scary, just always be aware of your surroundings - even as safe as it is here, one just never knows. Summer time is the best time and also the most congested time, so plan on getting here earlier or have patience To me, this is a place I like to call "my little slice of heaven". I hope and pray it stays that way. Come check out if you haven't and bring relatives/friends visiting from out of the area, they are in for a big treat. Hands down one of my favorite places to walk or ride my cruiser. I love the vibe of The Strand and the surrounding areas. Not too crowded. Well kept. Gorgeous views. It's definitely something you can do as a group (small or medium) or even on your own when you need some getaway solo time. I started to run again and came here with a friend last week. The distance from the end of Manhattan Beach pier to Hermosa Beach pier and back is about 4 miles. The view of the ocean and the expensive beachfront houses beats running on a treadmill any day! There's a separate bike path (for part of it) so you don't have to worry about getting run over by them. The path is pretty flat so if you want a little challenge with incline, zigzag in between the blocks, some of them are slightly steep. read more

As for me, it's a great place for a run and watch the sunset OR sunrise. I do intervals...running on the sand, then cement, then sand....and so on. There's little walkway openings (divider between the sand & cement) making it easy to do the quick switches. I love it! read more

I love running on The Strand, probably my most favorite place to go running, and I don't even like running so that says a lot lol. Honestly, it doesn't even really feel like I'm working out when I run on The Strand because it's so beautiful and so much going on to distract you. The views of the beach are amazing, and it's nice to see other people running/walking/jogging and you'll always see a lot of people taking their dogs out for a walk. The houses along The Strand are gorgeous, and it's fun to admire their gorgeous plants and furniture. There's also a little area with workout machines if you want to do various workouts. The Manhattan Beach pier is accessible through The Strand, and it's definitely one of my favorite piers, because there's no businesses on it so it's quiet and you can just enjoy the ocean breeze and it's beauty. Also, if you come for a run after work, it's an amazing sight to see the sun set around 7:30-the best things in life are FREE! :) And as you can see from my photos, there are many MANY great photo opps on The Strand, especially if you're like me and appreciate sky and beach shots! read more

I love the Strand! There's no hills, its flat, so it makes for a pleasant run. Frequent pro athlete sightings here -- U.S. beach volleyball player Kerri Walsh used train in MB. Also I see US soccer player Mia Hamm going for a run all the time... she lives near the Strand with her husband, former major league baseball player Garciaparra. It's 1.7 miles one-way, from Hermosa Pier to Manhattan Pier on the Strand. read more

Funny that you can review The Strand, but since I walk/jog there regularly I figured... why not? I started going for regular walks in the fall of 2009 over here and have been going to Manhattan Beach ever since I was a kid. The salt air is great for my lungs and the homes are great to look at. The sounds of the crashing waves and the warm sun is soothing for the mind and body. I love it here and prefer this instead of the gym, unless it is too cold outside. The downside to this place is parking and the dog crap that is left on the sidewalk. That is just gross! read more

Really nice beach. Very pretty compared to the East Coast and even gulf coast. I took a nice long walk on the beach with my woman after I flew in 2 days to see her for New Years. Beach is clean, and how awesome is it that I can be in shorts and t-shirt in January. Water was cold though, but I even saw some crazy little kids playing in the water. Bring go get yourself a lady friend and bring her here and walk on the beach close to sunset. That's what you call hopeless romantic, or mad game. Either way, its money. read more

I find having the separate bike path pretty sweet. First off it is not as crowded and the sand is farther away. I am always anxious about slipping on sand while I run. I like the Manhattan strand a bit less than the Hermosa strand, however, because there are comparatively more dog poop on this strand. Also, I almost stepped on a snail. That was the last straw. What I really do like about this area are the hills going up the streets. I did three hills and decided I hurt too much and should stick to flat plains for the rest of the way. The Hermosa strand doesn't have that, and this is part of the reason why I will run this way again. The smoke stacks are a sore sight for sore eyes and the houses are prettier to look at in Hermosa by a little bittle bit. read more

Good place to run, and people watch. There's a group that meets every Tuesday in front of Sangria's in Hermosa Beach. They run from HB to MB and back. What I like about running on the Strand, is that there's just a lot of other people here who are also running, biking, or blading... so it makes it fun to run here. And, it's pretty flat too. :) Only negative, parking. It's metered parking. read more

We were at the beach on a sunny Sunday noon and we picked this place, right near the pier. It has an enviable location and even better food. We ordered for a couple of beers and a lot of food. The salmon I asked for was one of the best I have ever had, it just melts in your mouth. Their pizzas are really good too. The service is excellent. But the best is there espresso, do not miss out on that one if you are a coffee lover. A must go to place if you are around manhattan and want to stop by for lunch. read more

The Strand is one of my favorite places to run. Picturesque views of the ocean on one side and gajillion dollar dream homes on the other, make for a great scenic workout from El Porto beach to the Manhattan Beach Pier (or all the way to Redondo if you're hard core). And you can work on your tan while you burn off some calories with the ocean breeze to cool you down. On a good day you may even get to gawk at some glistening, hard-bodied and half-naked volleyball players. Mmmhmm! The Strand is pretty wide and flat from start to finish and there are no bikes allowed, so you can run, jog or walk in peace. (There's a completely separate bike path that runs parallel and just below the Strand, closer to the water). My only complaint is the parking. There's not much of it and it's not free. Try your luck in the surrounding neighborhoods or just go with the metered parking lot at El Porto or other smaller lots along the way. read more

Outside of Bel Air and places with "estates" and hedges so high you can't see the houses from beyond the automated gates, I think these are the most gorgeous residences I've ever seen, period, let alone beachside. My girl, who lives right near here, had a dream last night that we bought a house along this strip. She has a pretty kickass knack of manifesting stuff, so if I go missing, don't worry, I'm not dead, I just fell off of reality and landed in a mansion and am busy having mimosas on our beachfront porch. read more

I have to say, I like the ability to walk on the beach on paved road without the fear that some dude on a bike is going to slam into my back just cause I'm in his space... or should I say the space he wants to occupy. This stretch along the Manhattan Beach side has two portions. One is for bikes and other folks on wheels and the other is for those running or just walking on the beach. It's a nice amount of physical exercise going from the Manhattan Beach pier all the way to the Hermosa Beach Pier. About half way you'll switch over to a lower tier bike/people path. Still, it's pretty calm if you know when to come here. Early morning seems to be filled with folks who need to get their crunch time work out on. So I would just say a weekend afternoon will be much more chill. You do need to watch out for droppings of the dog variety. It seems like the bunch of USC grads who proudly wave their school flags just love to let their dogs out on both the sand - even with a no pets rule in place - and man, there's more than often a dog surprise right there in the middle of the path that no one wants to take responsibility for and pick up. So helpful hint, pick up your dog's crap, folks. Is that so difficult? As for the walk, it's about 3.6 miles round trip from pier to pier and shouldn't take you more than an hour and a half, even if you're going at a leisurely pace. With Southern California type of weather, it's always a good choice for a walk. read more

If youre an outdoor person, this is the place to go! The strand is perfect for jogging, walking, rollerblading and there is also a bike path next to it... and if you want to work on those legs for beach season, just go down to the sand/beach and run/walk there instead :) I rollerblade to Hermosa Beach Pier and then back to Manhattan Beach, and it such a great exercise. You will feel it in your legs.... burn babes burn! Note to you: do not attempt to rollerblade on holiday weekends, because it will be CROWDED. I love love love the strand... anytime of the day... I love my morning walks where I inhale fresh air and watch the surfers catch the waves... I also love to run on the strand during sunset... I always feel like I am in the middle of a postcard. The strand is by far the most amazing public offering in the South Bay generally, and in MB particularly. I've lived here for some time and I try to make it down to the strand several times per week, if possible. I have some sound advice for any newcomers. The strand is primarily an exercise path for persons of all ages. Treat the path as a road. Whether you are walking or biking, STAY TO THE RIGHT on the path!!! Do not make sudden movements across the path, as you may cause an accident with a bicyclist. Keep you dog on a leash and do not let them walk across the path into oncoming traffic. Remember, it's a road!!! Treat it as such... The most dangerous thing/hazard you can encounter on the strand is a person who is preoccupied with the beauty of the multi-million dollar homes on the path, but is paying no attention whatsoever to his or her surroundings. So please, if you plan to visit, keep in mind that you are the visitor! Be aware of your surroundings... Watch for bikers, skateboarders and most importantly rollerbladers--by far the most dangerous people to utilize this great public space. Enjoy your visit.... :-) read more

The Strand in Manhattan Beach stretches from El Porto to 1st Street and contains some of the finest real estate in the country. Most of the homes are ten million plus- with one in particular that may be around 50 (can you say triple lot on The Strand???) Somehow that monster got built even though it violates city ordinance. I digress, Manhattan Beach has two parallel concrete paths- the upper for pedestrians and the lower for bicycles only. In reality, you will often have skaters and rollerbladers and even some joggers on the lower path even if it against the rules. The big no-no is riding your bike on the upper path. Sometimes the hard core cyclists will think they are entitled to run you and your kids with their training wheels over since you are intruding on their path- just beware. I've witnessed some collisions and it usually involves either a Lance Armstrong wannabe or a pedestrian who forgets to look both ways before crossing in front of bike traffic. Use common sense here. The Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair 10k last mile or so begins around Rosecrans to the finish line just south of the Pier. I always feel so great along this last stretch- it is hard not to feel good with a cool ocean breeze and the pier clearly in sight. read more

Fabulous!!! Everyone needs to visit the strand if they're going to Manhattan Beach. The strand is basically the final street before the beach, where all of the beachfront houses are located. Next to it is a bike path, a walking path, benches, parking, landscaping, and the beach of course! There are also businesses and restaurants nearby. The Strand is just something you want to do when you're in the area. Walk around, eat at some restaurants right on the beach and take a look at what's going on in the area. The pavement that stretches all of manhattan beach even going to beaches next door is just a nice walk, bike or roller-skate if you like to do that. I agree with someone that said this is the 'high line' of the beach, so if you've been to NYC you know what that means. Along the walking trail it is fun to look at houses and see what is going on around the beach. In the summer we love to go when the big volleyball tournament is going on. You can walk down the beach and watch everyone playing. There are public restrooms along the strand and just know what your getting yourself into, either way, I appreciate them. I recommend going to the strand around sunset and just hanging out for awhile, get an ice cream, take a walk, and enjoy it. read more

This is my Sunday morning running spot! Parking is a breeze on Manhattan Beach Blvd- $.25 for 15 minutes. Just watch out for the 24 minute only zones. There is also a parking lot closer to the water if you choose to access the trail at one of the tail ends. When the weather is super nice, parking can be a challenge because people are either getting their brunch on or hanging by the water. If you're facing the pier and turn right, a round trip will run you a little over 2 miles. The route takes you through a scenic tour of pretty homes and lush landscaping. Very dog friendly!!! There is also a separate path on the lower level by the sand for bike riders only. I don't think you're allowed to run or walk on that road. Runners beware though- The Strand often has a lot of walkers so you'll have to dodge people every so often. read more

It's OFFICIAL I have now found my new favorite beach! Yep! The Strand is perfect! I really have to say that what separates this beach from others is its less packed! Or maybe I just picked a good time on Saturday to go! I was able to find parking without any issues and you can park for up to 5 hours for dirt cheap! Let it be Santa Monica or Malibu though and we would be having an entire different review! Walking along the strand until you get to the pier is ideal especially if you want to capture some of the best photos! There is plenty restaurants along the way that overlook the beach so if you get hungry no worries! The vibe here is just so chill and it seems to be the best beach to come have lunch and just relax! So calming with sitting here watching the ocean waves crash! read more

What up all you dude-bras? Does the part of the beach that is in front of the old 90210 house count as the strand? Cause that's where we set up camp. Twas monday, the end of the mini heat wave, and boy oh boy, some of the best beaching weather imaginable! I'm glad we brought a beach brollie, or else I woulda been toast for sure! There wasn't even much of the regular beach breeze. It was my first official beach day of the new season. I even got in the ocean, something I rarely do. And all though the water wasn't as clear as I like, the ocean was still. It felt more like a lake, even sounded like it. The waves lapping at the sand gently. Sometimes I wished for the sound of beach wind and waves crashing, because it often drowns out your neighbors conversations. Some girls were even asking this guy sitting with his entourage for pictures, but upon closer inspection I couldn't recognize this fellow. Were these girls just desperate for a picture with a male? Who knows. We saw a bunch of dolphins too, even one jumping clear out of the water. Very pleasant indeed! read more
