As Subject Matter Experts, they use a customizable solution (technique/type of hair) for each individual client as opposed to a typical cookie cutter approach like GL/HD "Platinum Partner Salons" that are limited by their own hair/application methods including bonding equipment. As to me, as the result of some serious matting both pre and post COVID-19 quarantine and a haircut gone seriously bad, I turned to GL/HD *cold fusion* to fill in multiple patches of super short / chopped off hair as it grows back in and tape ins are enabling me to safely do that (zero hair damage as long as you keep up with your 6-8 week move up appts); I just wish I'd found them sooner!! They are both beyond professional, courteous, kind, compassionate and work super efficiently. It's also worthy to mention that although their speciality/true passion is hair restoration (include extension application), they're also top notch stylists AND colorists to boot. I'm somewhat of a hair color snob since my hair tends to turn brassy as it lifts if the formula/process is not right and have definitely had more than my share of nightmares over the years!. That said, Devin's base bump on my 4" COVID roots using highlights and toner alone rivaled the same result Rita Hazan (NYC) had been producing the past 20 years using a double process and expertly matched the extensions. Last but not least, their prices are more than competitive especially compared to the big "name brand" companies who charge by the bundle plus labor. He also cut and styled my hair in less than an hour, and my appointment took less than 2 hours total. I need to note this because I have REALLY thick hair - to the point that every single stylist I have visited in the past commented on how thick it is. I often had two people blow drying my hair at the same time due to its thickness and volume. A cut took at least an hour and half if I was lucky and I have spent hours and hours at salons because stylists just could not handle my hair. Needless to say, I would dread going to the salon because it would be a whole-day ordeal. I've went to Korean salons, super posh NYC salons, and other swanky DC salons, but they were all the same! But Jeff understood and knew exactly how to handle my hair. I was in awe the whole time with the speed with which he was blow drying big sections. He was also very professional and did not at all make me feel bad about the thickness of my hair (which happened more often than not at other salons). I cannot recommend Jeff enough. I still cannot believe I have the whole day free now to do other things!

It was my first time to the salon, and due to a…read moresensitivity I have with my hair, I asked if it would be okay if they used my blow dryer for the service. Maggie immediately smiled and said yes. I would have been okay if I was told no; I just would have changed my booking to another service. I booked with Maggie, but Maggie walked me over to another girl. Immediately, the other girl did not come off as cordial, and her demeanor made me feel unsure about the service from the start. I sat down and wanted to confirm the new price point. The girl said it would be $100. Online, that service states it is $50. She then changed it to $70, and then once again, and then again once more. She was visibly upset and went to talk to Maggie. Speaking in a language she assumed I didn't understand, they went back and forth in a way I don't believe they would have had they known I was aware of their conversation. Maggie kept a smile on her face the whole time and continued eating. I let Maggie know I was a college student and did not anticipate being charged double. Maggie ended up saying it would only be $10 more than what was stated online, making my new price point $60. I was okay with that. The girl went on to roughly wash my hair. She complained about my hair texture "curls." She only washed the surrounding areas, not once touching the middle of my hair, leaving only about 25% of my hair washed or even touched. At this point, I already felt the service was not being done with care. We then walked over to her station (and not Maggie's). I had assumed that maybe this girl was just the washer and Maggie would complete the service, the blow dry with my dryer that we agreed on. Things went differently. Again, the girl seemed disgruntled. She left again to speak with Maggie. She came back and decided that no, she was using her blow dryer. If the only option was to use their blow dryer, I would have opted for a deep condition instead and blow dried it myself at home. She refused to use mine. So while she left again to speak with Maggie in the break room, I started combing out my hair. Once the girl saw I was doing my own hair, she seemed more relieved. I just wanted a peaceful service and environment, so I never raised a concern. I smiled and stayed kind the entire time. I even offered to pay full price despite being refused the blow dry service. I needed to have my hair done because I was headed to school next. Maggie said that was okay. I pulled out my blow dryer and did the scalp test. I saw buildup come from underneath my nail continuously, clearly showing my hair had not been washed properly at all. Maggie asked what it was, but I didn't want to be seen as a disgruntled customer, so I said it was okay. So I went on to blow dry my own hair. Maggie then proceeded to take the next customer. I was hoping Maggie would do the right thing as I proceeded to pay. I was still charged the full amount for unwashed hair, hair that I combed out myself and blow dried myself. I called Maggie over, and she told me she had a customer, even though I was originally supposed to have been her customer. Maggie's other employee informed me that Maggie said the upcharge was due to the fact that I used their electricity and their lights to blow dry my own hair, while still being charged more than what the service would've been if they had done it themselves. I offered an opportunity to make this right. I was even willing to pay full price for the wash service that left my hair dirty. I played back my experience, and they agreed my experience was justified.

I don't think I've ever had a better experience with a salon than with The Studeo. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I think Frankie might be the most talented and genuinely intuitive hair professional, I have ever come across in my long life of salon adventures! I'm a little older, and have problems with hair loss and thinning, and all I wanted was to have nice hair again! I did my research and found this salon, emailed, and got a very prompt reply from Frankie. I went in for a consult and asked about extensions and color and whatever I could do to improve my awful hair. He was thorough and honest about the process, the best kind of extensions for me, the best color, the cost and all the details and was extremely professional yet friendly and approachable. He was also wonderfully patient with my million questions. I had to wait a couple of weeks for my extensions and topper, but it was SO worth it. He colored my hair a dark blonde, installed the extensions and in 4 hours, I looked like a different person! My husband, my friends and family are in awe. The hair looks completely natural and it looks like my own hair. The hair color he chose matches the topper and extension perfectly and works beautifully with my skin tone. My hard to please mother in law said that it took at least ten years off my face. My experience in the shop was a good one. The staff are appropriately professional with great attention to detail, and they maintain a contagious and collective sense of humor. I love that. I saw many gorgeous cuts and color jobs while I was there and the customers were all happy with their hair. That's always a good sign. I just can't say enough good things about this salon and staff. I now have gorgeous hair, that isn't difficult to care for, and I couldn't be happier. There is no such thing as cheap extensions if you want a professional looking job. This process was not inexpensive, but I knew and agreed to the costs up front. It was worth every penny. Frankie is unquestionably an intuitive genius with hair, as well as knowledgeable, intelligent, and is as charming as can be. If you are searching for a great salon, where you will feel comfortable, and feel that you have gotten your money's worth, then this is the salon for you. First of all, I had completely natural, long hair and was terrified to finally color my hair. But, I had want to lighten it up for so long and I really wanted a new ashy blonde color for my wedding day! I had heard great reviews of Frankie and his salon online, and through word of mouth of friends of mine who go there. I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it. I am SOOOO beyond happy with the results! The entire team there is SO friendly and it is like you already know them when you walk in the door. They made me feel so comfortable and joked and was so fun. I will remain a client there for my hair, but I swear I really just want to go back to hang out with the staff! I had long DARK brownish blondish hair to begin with that has undertones that are VERY golden and yellow. So if I lighten my hair it would be this very yellowy blonde when I wanted a muted ash blonde. That is something very difficult to achieve with my hair. I asked so many questions and Frankie knew the answer and MORE to every question. I had a few sessions so that it wasn't as damaging on my hair. Frankie lightened up with a balayage and then Angie helped to ash it out and add highlights. They helped a newbie like me on how to take care of my hair afterwards, how to grow it out subtly (roots/etc), recommended products, went above and BEYOND. I wear clip in extensions and I wanted to find ones to match my new hair color, A WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING, and Angie was so helpful she even gave me her personal phone number and said she would find time in her booked schedule to color my extensions if need be. Frankie is the man. I started going to him for cuts & color, but I've branched out into...everything. Frankie explains every service that he offers in such depth, and how it will work in the state your hair is currently in and where you can take it. That's really important for us previously over-bleached blondes. I currently go to Frankie for cuts, color, lasio keratin treatments, glazes, fusion hair extensions, tape in hair extensions, and make-up. He can do it all with skill, passion, and a wealth of knowledge. He continuously goes to classes in New York at TIGI to learn or refine his skills. I've taken my color from a horrible gold, over done blonde to an ash that I think it more suiting. I've also changed my cut a bit with face framing, which can make a huge difference on the shape of your facial features, with subtle changes in your cut. He only uses the highest quality, safe products. The lasio keratin treatments are formaldehyde free and leave your hair feeling SO much more healthy. The hair extensions have been for fun. I love the different colors that I can choose from, without coloring my own hair. The fusion extensions are a fantastic option if you want to try hair extensions for the first time. You can add color with them, or volume, and they DO NOT damage your hair. They're applied with a keratin bond that can be easily removed, leaving your hair perfectly intact. I think that one of Frankie's greatest skills that he doesn't always get as much of a chance to do is make-up. He's truly gifted, and will give you fantastic tips that you can use when applying make-up yourself. ABOVE ALL: Not only is Frankie a great stylist, he's a genuine person, which is hard to find in the DC area. He's really open about his life and is interested in yours as well. I booked an appointment with Jasmine based on the recommendation of the receptionist when I called to inquire about scheduling with an expert colorist. My hair is naturally very thick, long, dark, and curly and hasn't been color treated (or treated at all for that matter) in nearly a year since my previous stylist moved to NYC. Needless to say finding a replacement stylist was a daunting task I'd been avoiding, but my hair was desperately in need. Upon my first consultation, Jasmine was both friendly and professional (and beautifully stunning!)--she examined the condition of my hair thoroughly while listening to my concerns and before making recommendations. What I really appreciated was her honesty--while she did not completely shut down my hopes of going from dark chocolate hair to blonde she did let me know that the transformation would "be an ongoing process" requiring several appointments and stressed the importance of maintaining my hair health. During this particular appointment she performed treatments for moisturizing and conditioning my hair which left my hair shiny, soft and voluminous! I was truly amazed at the noticeable difference after the blow dry. She also cut dead ends to help with breakage in preparation for the color--highlights first (ash blonde which I've gotten so many compliments on already) then balayage for all subsequent sessions in order to gradually lighten my hair. Overall this was a really great experience, Jasmine was extremely knowledgeable in her technique and product recommendations and was available to answer my questions about the home care routine after my appointment. Hair is one of the most personal things I can think of - and for that reason, no salon can be a one-size-fits all. If you're looking for calm yet aloof -- The Studeo is not the right place for you. But if you want warm chaos that's full of heart, that's exactly what The Studeo is. I've had my hair done by Frankie (who is great with cutting thick, unruly hair like mine and is my go-to cutting guy) as well as by Wes, who is now officially a stylist at the Studeo (and better be my colorist for life)! Wes gave me a beautiful balayage (and a good cut too, but I really want to rave about the color! You can see the results in the header of this page.) Wes is that rare combination of true artistry and customer service; someone who actually listens to what you want rather than assuming that he knows best. His coloring technique is natural yet precise . . . and be prepared, he will not let you leave until it's perfect. I find it interesting that some reviewers have felt lectured. . . because far from being lectured or scolded, I felt listened to and informed. Neither Wes nor Frankie ever tried to sell me tons of products (unlike almost every other salon I've been to) or make me feel guilty about my lackadaisical hair care routine. They have shared useful tips for prolonging my color, reducing styling time, etc. because they are all passionate about hair. I also really appreciate that everyone in the salon is committed to keeping up to date on trends and learning new skills; it's one of the many things that shows that they all love what they do. read more

I walk by this salon everyday on my way home from work and finally decided to give them a try. I was not expecting much since every salon I've been to since moving to DC has been mediocre. The space seems cool and laid back. I was greeted by another stylist who was very nice and told that Jordan would be with me soon. I was about 15 minutes early so I settled in with a magazine to wait until my appointment time. To my surprise Jordan came up shortly after with her previous client (who's hair looked fabulous) so I already felt at ease when she said that she was ready to take me. I had paid a ton of money at a super trendy salon and hated the shredded cut I received there. Jordan took one look at my hair and said "you have great hair but it could really use some shape" mind reader! She meticulously cut my limp, lifeless hair and urged me to try wearing my natural texture on a day when I didn't have anywhere special to be. As addicted as I am to my blowdryer and flat iron I have to say that when I let my hair dry on it's own I was pleasantly surprised by how nicely the layers fell. Literally created a Yelp account just to talk about how great Jessi is. I went in for a haircut two weeks ago and she was able to get rid of all my split ends without compromising the length of my hair, which was extremely important to me. Today, I came in with some photos for balayage and she made it look even better on me than in the photos. She transitioned my hair from very solidly brown to a honey blond and it's so pretty and natural looking. I'm definitely going back to her in 2 months for toner and to lighten up my hair a little more for the spring. Also, Jessi's really fun to talk to, extremely skilled, and takes her work very seriously so I definitely recommend her to anyone looking to color their hair, especially if they're going for balayage. As for The Studeo itself, it's completely wonderful. The staff is very skilled and knowledgable. They're also really welcoming too and really try to make coming in for a hair appointment fun, instead of just being an errand (allegedly Frankie has an Alicia Keys impression that I'm dying to hear haha). I went to get my hair cut here for the first time a few weeks ago, and obviously given all the good reviews I requested Frankie. First off, let me start by saying i have had some DISASTROUS hair cuts that have definitely made me paranoid about trying new places, but as I just recently moved to DC and my hair was getting pretty long/damaged, I felt the time had come to take the risk. This was definitely the best hair cut of my life. Frankie didn't cut a single inch over what I told him I wanted (which is what I'm always most paranoid about). Honestly when I first saw the cut, I liked it a lot but didn't think it was super special, but now I see how talented Frankie was because it has been growing out SO BEAUTIFULLY. Even though it's just been a few weeks I can see how my hair finally has shape and I think I'll finally be able to grow it out a lot more (which is what I had told him I wanted). He really does understand how to frame your hair properly so that it matches the shape of your face. I was interested in either Brazilian or Japanese hair straightening and bumped into Frankie/Studeo online. After discussing the process and his experience with him on the phone, I came to the salon, where Frankie spent a lot of time answering my numerous questions about both types of straightening, their pros and cons, etc. It was clear that he has been doing this for many years and would not do it unless I felt completely comfortable. I proceeded with Brazilian straightening, and it was a very positive experience then and afterward. The hair turned out looking and feeling better than I expected, and I had a "hair-carefree" summer in humid DC. I had my hair cut with Samantha and I would definitely recommend her/will be going to her in the future. She listened to exactly what I wanted, gave her professional opinion, and executed what we had agreed on. I truly appreciated this since it has not always been my experience at other places. I actually have had anxiety about hair cuts in the past because it's typical to go in, ask for a trim, and leave with 2+ inches gone - which always drives me nuts since my hair grows so slowly and it would take me months to get back to what I actually initially wanted! This review is strictly for Frankie's knowledge, talent, personality and reliability. I have been to see him three times now and always LOVE the transformation when I leave his chair. Frankie is always traveling to do continuing education for his trade to stay fresh and on top of all techniques and trends. He takes the time to talk to you and explain all processes for the various services he offers to ensure you do what is right for you. I drive from Northern VA just to see him and well worth the trip. If you are looking for chic ambiance, Salon Loule is not the place for you however, if you want an amazing stylist then you need look no further. Usually I don't like listening to Yelp reviews because I find they are mostly written by self absorbed people who like to complain about things, but I decided to try out the Studeo because I was in the area. I went to Samantha and she was brilliant. I had let my dark roots grow out a little and I wasn't sure which way I wanted to go so I left it up to her. She suggested a balyage and a bit of color for spring. Because of my fine hair, the color didn't take initially, but she did it again and it looks beautiful. You can tell that Samantha has an expertise that only comes from years of training and confidence. I would highly recommend seeing her, you will not be disappointed! read more

I've now had two cut and colors with Elle and could not be happier with the result. I knew I wanted a change but didn't really know what would be best for my hair. Elle walked me through the process with a consultation before I even booked my first appointment, and then used bayalage to make my hair get the naturally sun-kissed blonde tones it used to get when I was outside all day in the summer. She also gave me a great haircut. Elle is a perfectionist when it comes to her work and you can completely tell - she went above and beyond in making sure the haircut and color exactly matched what I hope for and met her high standards. A friend of mine recommended Frankie after I told her I loved her haircut and was looking for someone who was hip but would actually listen and not just push their own style on me. I went into The Studeo yesterday with hair down to my back and told Frankie that I wanted to go pixie short and he did a fabulous job, not only with the haircut but also easing me through the process. He cut my hair in stages so that if I changed my mind I still had time to back out, but when I told him I really wanted it short he obliged and gave me an awesome cut. Absolutely the best! I've tried just about every salon in the DMV and had just about every hair disaster before I found Frankie. Now I'm constantly getting compliments on my hair, even the lady at the drive-thru kept complimenting me on how good my hair looks. My natural color is dark brown, almost black. Frankie is able to get it platinum blonde, looking like I was born that way. And the extensions...! The hair quality and the job is top notch. I had extensions before and thought they were ok... I came in with a blunt short bob haircut and was dying to have long hair again, I saw that "The Studeo" had hair extensions listed as a service and had a few reviews for extension reviews all with good experiences. I got a consult in their salon a few days later with Frankie, super funny guy and you could tell that he knew his stuff, he matched my color and ordered 6 bundles of hair for me, I wanted it full and wavy...and it was that and more. I've been going to Frankie for about 8 years now - and have done everything from hair extensions, hi-lights, balayage, full color and haircuts. And a few years ago, he even convinced me to go platinum! I love it and I adore Frankie. He does beautiful work, but equally as important, he takes the time to make sure my hair stays healthy through it all. I cannot recommend Frankie highly enough - he is a true talent. And to top it all off, he is kind and funny and really cares about his clients. Oh... and he would remind me he is handsome too! lol. I used to see Jamie Bishop at Axis, so when she moved I was happy to move with her. I was a bit underwhelmed with the location (a tad crowded to accommodate Jamie and another former Axis stylist who are sharing a chair), but the service I received here was top-notch! Frankie and the other employees were so welcoming, and everyone was so talkative and friendly. I received my usual stellar service from Jamie - fantastic color and a chic new cut that completely changed up my look. I can't recommend her enough, and I really enjoyed interacting with everyone at the salon. I can't wait to see their new location in January! read more

I could think of several words to describe Frankie.....professional would be the last word I'd EVER think of using. Overpriced would be a compliment for the shoddy service he provides. Don't even get me started on his "holier than thou" attitude. I've never met someone who just has to find ways to be dramatic and nasty to people. I will NEVER give him or anyone who associates with him another dime of my money!!!!! The ONLY reason I'm even giving him one star is because I have to in order to leave a review. No one told me that my services or pricing would change. When I arrived, I was told I could only receive a basic haircut and a few face framing highlights, a small fraction of what I had originally booked. I said that was fine, but asked what it would cost. I received roundabout answers and had to ask three separate times before finally being told I would be charged $417, the price of my original, much more extensive service. I left without receiving any service and was charged $417. But the most upsetting part was how unkind the experience was. I work a demanding job in DC and was trying to handle the situation responsibly. I called ahead, explained what happened, asked what I should do, and followed their direction to come in. Anyone working in this city knows that meetings run over. I was not asking them to ignore their policies. I was asking for basic communication and consideration. Instead, I felt like I had to repeatedly push just to get a straight answer about what I was being charged. That lack of transparency, and especially the lack of kindness, was incredibly disappointing. There are plenty of professional, transparent, and genuinely considerate salons in DC. I will be going elsewhere.
