She does an exception job at whatever new cut or color is thrown at her. I've been going to her for about 8 years now and repeatedly send my family and friends her way. She also cuts my 3 year old's hair and she is seriously a toddler whisperer as well ahaha. She is so fun and my son is always so excited to get his hair cut by her! I walked in and I was greeted by Ms. Maggie. It was my first time to the salon, and due to a sensitivity I have with my hair, I asked if it would be okay if they used my blow dryer for the service. Maggie immediately smiled and said yes. I would have been okay if I was told no; I just would have changed my booking to another service. I booked with Maggie, but Maggie walked me over to another girl. Immediately, the other girl did not come off as cordial, and her demeanor made me feel unsure about the service from the start. I sat down and wanted to confirm the new price point. The girl said it would be $100. Online, that service states it is $50. She then changed it to $70, and then once again, and then again once more. She was visibly upset and went to talk to Maggie. Speaking in a language she assumed I didn't understand, they went back and forth in a way I don't believe they would have had they known I was aware of their conversation. Maggie kept a smile on her face the whole time and continued eating. I let Maggie know I was a college student and did not anticipate being charged double. Maggie ended up saying it would only be $10 more than what was stated online, making my new price point $60. I was okay with that. The girl went on to roughly wash my hair. She complained about my hair texture "curls." She only washed the surrounding areas, not once touching the middle of my hair, leaving only about 25% of my hair washed or even touched. At this point, I already felt the service was not being done with care. We then walked over to her station (and not Maggie's). I had assumed that maybe this girl was just the washer and Maggie would complete the service, the blow dry with my dryer that we agreed on. Things went differently. Again, the girl seemed disgruntled. She left again to speak with Maggie. She came back and decided that no, she was using her blow dryer. If the only option was to use their blow dryer, I would have opted for a deep condition instead and blow dried it myself at home. She refused to use mine. So while she left again to speak with Maggie in the break room, I started combing out my hair. Once the girl saw I was doing my own hair, she seemed more relieved. I just wanted a peaceful service and environment, so I never raised a concern. I smiled and stayed kind the entire time. I even offered to pay full price despite being refused the blow dry service. I needed to have my hair done because I was headed to school next. Maggie said that was okay. I pulled out my blow dryer and did the scalp test. I saw buildup come from underneath my nail continuously, clearly showing my hair had not been washed properly at all. Maggie asked what it was, but I didn't want to be seen as a disgruntled customer, so I said it was okay. So I went on to blow dry my own hair. Maggie then proceeded to take the next customer. I was hoping Maggie would do the right thing as I proceeded to pay. I was still charged the full amount for unwashed hair, hair that I combed out myself and blow dried myself. I called Maggie over, and she told me she had a customer, even though I was originally supposed to have been her customer. Maggie's other employee informed me that Maggie said the upcharge was due to the fact that I used their electricity and their lights to blow dry my own hair, while still being charged more than what the service would've been if they had done it themselves. I offered an opportunity to make this right. I was even willing to pay full price for the wash service that left my hair dirty. I played back my experience, and they agreed my experience was justified. read more

I want to share the experience that a customer there had. She was getting her hair done and had to endure, I heard the stylists name was Nelsa's constant belittling of her hair in Spanish, probably thinking the customer wouldn't understand her. But you never know who's in there that does understand. She felt the bad vibes. Women go to salons to feel better, feel pretty, to relax. This customer left with beautiful hair but with a bad experience. I don't recommend it. read more

The Maggy's Beauty Salon was recommended and when a family member visited, she was appalled on how the stylist Nelsa spoke about a customer's hair in Spanish and would not take suggestions from the customer or the other stylists that some customers expect to go under the dryer before blow drying. It would have been helpful for the salon to explain to the new customer what to expect before working on her hair, let alone, the disrespect of the unnecessary racist comments made in a language she did not understand. Since when are bad behaviors applied to hair anymore. Flummoxed by the lack of business sense and understanding that there are customers who "look" like may not speak Spanish, but understand it very well. My family member will not be going to this salon. We do not go to a business that do not prize respect for their customers and support the undercover bully- shame on you Nelsa! read more

I've been coming here for a few months now and am so grateful to have stumbled upon this salon. Although it's not super convenient for me to get to from where I live, I am so appreciative of the warm service that is provided here. As someone that can sometimes have a slightly unpredictable schedule, it's so nice that Maggy's does their best to accommodate walk-ins (and have been beyond generous at times when I might drop by late in the day.) Unlike many other salons I've been to, everyone here makes you feel welcomed and well taken care of, almost like extended family. The energy of the salon doesn't feel gossipy and stand-offish but instead is very inclusive with a very kind staff. When I come here, I'm able to hop on my laptop easily and get my work done peacefully while sitting under the dryer. There is a level of peace I feel here knowing it's nothing but love and good vibes. Additionally, my hair always looks great when I leave. Super grateful that this salon exists and will continue to frequent this business whenever I can! read more

Let me start be saying I loved this place!!! Located in the heart of Adams morgan! So FYI give yourself time to find parking or pay to park, Uber, walk etc. Anyways... I called this past Saturday for a trim for my daughter with C curl hair and they were able to see her same day!! We had the pleasure of working with Maria...She recommended a treatment for my daughters hair to help with the fuzz. My daughter went out of town the following day so I haven't seen the results after her 1st shampoo but the blow out was amazing and quick! My daughters hair was sooo soft and full of shine. Turned out Great! Now On to the Salon: LOVE IT. Very Very nicely done and its a basement salon but full of light. It's white, so clean, cool black sparkly floors, Huge Bathroom (not some toilet in a closet) just a really nice Salon. And all the Staff were super nice! Highly recommend read more

I called the same day and the owner took me in before closing. She is very nice and accommodating. The salon is nice and clean, it's right in Adams Morgan. I had a track from my extensions that got lose she offered to sew it back on. She gave me an complementary growth treatment. The blow out turn out beautifully. I was in town for a conference and decided that I wanted to get my hair done. I typically wear my hair naturally curly (3b/3c) and wanted to get a simple blowout - something I have done a million times when I lived in NY and DC. When I arrived at Maggy's I requested a blowout and specifically requested several times that the stylist (Nessa) NOT use any products that would straighten or alter my natural curly hair. I had heard stories online of Dominican salons doing this and I wanted to make myself abundantly clear. It is my understanding that some shampoos/conditioners have a straightener in them. So I wanted to be clear up front. Unfortunately, my instructions were completely disregarded. Despite making it very clear upfront about avoiding anything that could potentially straighten my curls, the stylist used product(s) that have left my hair an absolute mess. After years of working to restore my curls to its natural curl (due to years of straightening), my once beautiful, bouncy curls have been destroyed from one visit to Maggy's salon. Now, my hair is limp, curly in some parts, straight in other parts (especially the ends) and the curls just won't spring back no matter what I do. It has been 4 months since that visit and my hair has not recovered since that one visit. I went to my curly hair stylist and she confirmed that a "straightener" of some sort was used on my hair. I have had to cut several inches of my hair but it still not enough. I don't want to cut it any further or else I won't be able to put it in a ponytail anymore. This is so disheartening because I have straightened my hair several times before with no problems. Once I wash my hair, my curls come right back. This was an inexcusable violation of my request as a client. Using straightening or curl-altering products on someone who explicitly asked you not to is simply unacceptable practice for a professional hairstylist. Furthermore, it is extremely careless and lazy because in the end, they just want to make their jobs easier. Instead of centering the clients needs, they are centering themselves. I am beyond disappointed and upset about the condition my hair is in now. I don't know how long it is going to take for it to get back to normal. What should have been a simple blowout has turned into a nightmare, with my natural curls being completely ruined. I put a lot of effort into caring for my curly hair, and in one appointment, years of work has been undone. I regret the day ever walking in there. If you straighten your hair then this place will be fine. However, if you have naturally curly hair, DO NOT come here. I cannot recommend this salon to anyone, especially those with curly hair. If you do, then do like what my stylist told me which is BRING YOUR OWN PRODUCTS. The lack of care and blatant disregard for a client's instructions is appalling. I am heartbroken over the state of my hair and the long journey ahead to try and revive my curls. read more

I am so very appreciative of everyone I interacted with at Maggy's! Erika did an amazing job on my blowout! I've been battling with depression and ended up neglecting my hair for quite some time; so my hair needed some TLC. I can't remember the last time I had my hair done by a professional and it almost brought a tear to my eye after seeing how healthy and beautiful my hair is when properly cared for. I'm not a local resident of DC but after my great experience at Maggy's, I will definitely be making the 2.5 hr drive on a consistent basis to get my hair done. These prices are insane. I have medium shoulder length hair and booked a wash & set w/ rolos and was charged $80. No deep conditioner, no hair treatment, no extensions. As a latina who doesn't speak spanish but understands it 100% I was extremely uncomfortable with how the women were talking about me not speaking spanish. Nothing crazy disrespectful but be mindful of what you say and who you say it around. When I checked out they said "my hair is really thick so thats why it's $80". I have been getting my hair done at dominican salons for years and the thickness of my hair has never been a factor in total price. My hair was nice but not $80 nice. Transparency for prices should be known upfront! Unfortunately, won't be back again but this is my review on my experience. read more

Arizona visitor here in D.C. I have not had my hair done is a really long time because stylist tend not to listen to me. I like my hair black (black-black). Most stylists try to talk me out of this. Erika understood the assignment (Negro-Negro) and my hair came out perfectly, just the way I wanted it to. Maria is magic. I cannot recommend her or this salon enough. I didn't see a lot of blondes in the online photos, so I wasn't sure how it would go, but WOW. The best (and fastest) highlights of my life. I should also mention that my hair is really tough - almost all gray on top, the sides are dark, the bottom is a mix, so navigating all of that is a challenge in itself.
