This review is for Sera…read more I completely understand that a stylist's time is valuable, and I know it's frustrating when clients are late. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.

I called to see if I could do a same day appointment and they were so flexible! I was able to schedule one two hours out from when I called. I did arrive early as I did not want to take the metro and instead drove. You have to keep an eye out for parking. Just keep your travel time in consideration when visiting the area. The salon is on the second floor and is quite easy to find. I had Yvonne give me a haircut and she was so quick with the process. My cut was pretty simple and I just wanted several inches shorter with long curtain bangs. I had it styled at the end too! Not to mention, I was given a deep conditioning treatment. I'm not sure how much that costs but for all the services I received it came out to a decent price ($125). PS there's a store mascot here (some doggos) so just keep that into consideration if you have allergies. I'm sure if you have your dog with you this business is pet friendly.

If you want fabulous hair, head to Talio! Renato has been cutting my hair for 11 years. He listens to what you want, he understands your hair, he cuts beautifully, he's great at layering, and he doesn't engage you in conversation unless you want him too. He will often make exceptions for clients to get there early or stay late to work with people's schedules. I often go at the late appointment - and just to address the comment about locking the door - if it's getting late and you're the only one there, he will lock the doors for safety. Nothing weird about it - just the opposite. Renato is consistent and wonderful. I've never had anything but a cut I'm perfectly happy with! I also love that he's one of those hairdressers who you can say "what do you think we should do today" and you come out 45 minutes later with a gorgeous, chic new cut! Renato's daughter, Elvira, is amazing too and though she's only cut my hair once or twice when Renato was on vacation, her clients seem very pleased with her too. Lastly, Julia (hair washing) gives a great head massage while she washes your hair. I look forward to seeing Julia when I go so not sure about the client who had a bad experience with her. I honestly can't find anything negative to say re Talio. It's a wonderful experience every time! read more

VERY VERY HAPPY!!!! Shinee does amazing work and she REALLY knows color. She fixed my hair!! Came to Shinee today to have her fix the mess that another salon (immortal beloved on 14th Street) made of my hair. Basically I walked into Talio today looking like an animal had died on my head - the other salon Immortal Beloved had wrecked my root color by dying/"smudging" it this brassy orange color with thin, brassy low lights (and then they argued it looked fine and they could not fix it or issue a refund for the $300). Shinee Fixed the mess in LESS than an hour. AND Shinee made sure I was happy, showing me the color in different lighting before I went home. She really took the time and care to make sure the job was done correctly. She told me exactly what I could expect from the job, and she was SPOT on. After how horribly I was treated at Immortal Beloved, I really appreciate Shinee's expectation setting and quality customer service. Everyone I have spoken with at Talio is very nice, professional and accommodating and they truly do care about quality. They definitely converted me into a loyal customer. I went to Talio when I was visiting Georgetown for the weekend. I live in NY and normally have my hair cut by my regular stylist who is great. But once I realized that I was overdue for a cut, and I had a big event to attend, I read some Yelp reviews and took a chance. I definitely chose the right place. They gave me an appt at the end of the day and it was nice to see that the salon was busy. As I walked up Wisconsin from the 4 Seasons Hotel, most of the salons (and there were plenty) were empty. Lee was my stylist and she asked my goals and preferences for my cut: must be professional looking for work, easy to maintain, and be in- style (I'm a 49 year old design business owner.) Her cut and blow dry were fabulous! I walked out looking great, got lots of compliments that night, and my hair still looked great 3 days later. And now that I have washed and styled it myself 3 times since then (and I give it a quickie blow dry only), it falls into place and continues to look great. I've never written a Yelp review before, but since other reviews of Talio helped me choose this salon, I hope my review helps other. Highly recommend! read more

Really great hair place! Very nice interior design, great service (providing drink immediately, etc), and pleasant experience! I have been here twice, both times for a haircut, and Shinée really is an expert! The first time I had very long hair and was hesitant about what exactly to get -- I had never gotten a short hair before. Shinée, however, understood me perfectly and encouraged me to try a new hairstyle. She also asked me plenty of questions before and during cutting my hair, to make sure I am getting what I want. Today I dropped in after three months for another haircut, and Shinée is as awesome as ever! She is charming, personable, and we have so much fun talking about any topic! Another great thing is that she remembers what I did three months ago! Like the last time, she asked me questions and explained things to me very patiently. After my beloved hairdresser from London moved, I tried multiple salons around the D.C. area, with disappointing results. My thick, wavy hair requires an expert hand, which I just couldn't find until Renato at Talio cut my hair. He understood how to shape it so the cut would work with my hair texture, not against it. Among other hair stylists, his son and daughter work in the salon with him. As is typical of family businesses, you can feel their sense of pride and ownership in their work. The salon has a small, friendly feel, unlike many pretentious salons in Georgetown. They don't push their products, but since the price of the haircut was so reasonable I decided to treat myself to some wonderful hair products, made with natural ingredients from farms in Italy. I am looking forward to getting my dark hair colored here. Elvira, Renato's daughter, has the most luscious, rich, chocolate color, without the least bit of brassiness. Spring is here and I needed a new look! A friend suggested Caroline at Talio. I had never been to Talio before and I don't like driving in Georgetown. But parking is a breeze, you can park on 34th street where spaces are always open. I wanted to go lighter for the spring, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Caroline who has hair that women dream of having! Caroline is a bubbly, friendly person who makes you feel right at home. She took her time in asking what I wanted, how I style my hair (I hate styling) and how much maintenance I was willing to do. I wish I had taken before and after pictures because the cut and color are amazing. I don't HAVE to style my hair and it looks like I did! The color is beautiful shades of blonde (not that yellow, brassy blonde.. you ladies know what I mean). It is natural and gorgeous. Go visit Caroline for a new look, you will not regret it! I moved to the DC area from LA 5 years ago and have been dying to find a stylist with the vision and Charisma similar the West Coast stylist and OMG (TRACY) at Talio just did a Balayage and Cut on me and my friends hair and she is simply amazing!!!!!!! I have never had hair look this flawless. We were told to by coworkers to go see her and we have not stop smiling since we left. The amount of compliments I've gotten has been unreal. She's not only beautiful and very nice but she's professional and listens to my concerns. Tracy got us all in and out quickly which was great as I hate sitting in salons all day. I had an excellent experience at Talio. I went in to get my hair cut and colored (blonde) by Michaela. I gave her a vague idea of what I wanted, but it came out even better than I had imagined! The color was beautiful with no brassy tones, and other than a small streaky part, it looked totally natural. One of the best colors I've ever had done! The cut was so beautiful and put so much life back into my hair with lots of layers and texture. Michaela was also an awesome human being, and I genuinely had such a fun time talking to her; she is so genuine and funny. I have been going to Talio for several years now and use Caroline Wientzen -one of the stylists- for my hair color and keratin treatments. I can't say enough great things about Caroline. My hair color is tricky and in the past before I found Caroline it always looked brassy and unnatural. Caroline has been able to take away all the brassiness and it now has a rich feel to it that looks so natural. She is attentive and very willing to listen to all of my concerns and she is truly delightful to be around. There weren't many reviews for men's haircuts but this was the only salon to have 5 stars so I gave it a shot. Mikaela and I talked about my hair for 10 minutes before starting and she made great recommendations. It was a scissor cut and easily the best haircut I've ever had. Renato has cut my hair for over 28 years with the exception of the time I lived abroad and had to call him from overseas (often in tears) to ask how to fix my disasterous cuts there. He is simply the best there is and is passionate about his work and the results are always excellent. Highly recommend Renato but you need to book well in advance. When she started blow drying my hair I said it doesn't look much different and she responded that it'd keep getting lighter over the next few weeks, that to get to the color I wanted it'd take multiple appointments (something she didn't mention until I pointed out there was no change) and insisted she saw a big difference. (Side note: she started curling my hair, I asked her not to and she continued anyway which I thought was weird and in hindsight probably done to distract from the fact my hair looked almost the same) I gave it a month and it didn't get any lighter. Not a single person noticed I had my hair done and after $410 ($500 with tip) that was really disappointing. She ended up letting me come in to have it redone free of charge and what do you know it lightened several shades to exactly what I wanted. So much of a difference I seriously have trouble believing a lighter shade couldn't be achieved after one treatment like she said (friends and internet research agrees with me). I probably wouldn't be leaving this review if that was it but she was really rude and kind of scolded me at the end and told me no stylist would do this for free, that lightening to a noticeable difference is only possible after 2 treatments, and that hair doesn't actually lighten after unless you're in the sun. Everything she said contradicted itself so it was really confusing and misleading plus her attitude was crap. I obviously won't be going back and would not recommend this stylist to anyone. The salon is nice and the other stylists seem friendly though

Gerard listened to exactly what I wanted, was thorough in his execution, and I left feeling very happy - definitely NOT "meh". :) For reference, I had a partial highlight and haircut. My color may not look complex, but I am very particular about having my highlights blend naturally (zero demarcation line) and Gerard totally delivered on this. I'm very picky but I met Princess Tuazon 2 years ago through friends and she has been doing an amazing job with their hair and so I got curious and took chance to get my hair done & ever since she became my hair & make up artist. Fast forward to today, I went to visit her and get my hair done at Célia's Salon, she started working here for couple months now. The place is gorgeous and everyone there are very friendly.
