Great equipment, amazing staff. Outgoing, friendly, open, supportive, fun, and funny. They push you but also understand how to make a workout stick or last. The staff is knowledgeable in a variety of areas, and are open to teaching across them even if they know only a little. They're willing to step outside of comfort zones to help members/attendees do the same. They have a lot of equipment, so they'll be something for anyone and everyone. Check out Red Dot Fitness!

Wonderful locally owned gym on Alameda offering small group classes, personal training sessions, nutrition and more! This gym has all the equipment and amenities you need (showers/towels/etc) for a killer workout along with super friendly staff. They offer a free first class too, so I came for the 45 min TRX/KB class which was a really good workout with a great instructor. Hope to be back soon! Also nice coffee shops nearby for a post workout treat!

Working out at Red Dot is one of the best decisions I've made for my health and well-being. I've been training with Dr. Catherine "CeCe" English for almost two years. I'd just turned 50, and I was informed enough to know that my aging body was on a deteriorating trend, as far as body composition and bone density. I made a goal to become STRONG and BENDY. I interviewed a dozen trainers and when I met CeCe and her partner, Scott. I knew I'd found my place and my people. CeCe understood what I was after and programmed my training accordingly. In no time, I noticed how much easier my functional movements were in my everyday life. I often have more energy than my kids, I noticed this on a trip to Disneyland when we left the park at midnight, my kids were exhausted but I wasn't. I feel these types of gains every single day, and I'm so grateful. I had lost a lot of weight walking so I didn't know about strength training, weights or real mobility work. I certainly didn't know how to start and what to do to keep going. I didn't know how to stay injury free. But I knew if I wanted to maintain my weight loss, I needed more muscle mass to burn calories all day long. CeCe did a fitness analysis and started me with scaled down versions of mobility and strength training exercises, that I could do, yet were challenging enough for me to make progress I could see. CeCe insists on teaching and using proper form and as a result I have remained injury free while making great progress. One day just for the fun of it, I did 100 push ups. Me?!!!! I signed up for strength training because I needed to, not knowing I would fall in love with the intrinsic empowerment it gives me. I think that has to do with the successful way CeCe and Scott program their clients. Most of CeCe and Scott's clients have been there for years. I've met many of them and they feel like a tribe of wellness support. I want to make a point to anyone feeling awkward about their body or feeling they have to get in shape before starting a program. At Red Dot I have never experienced any body shaming. Not by CeCe or Scott, not by any of their trainers and not by any fellow clients. I've only felt positive and encouraging vibes. This is the most positive space I've ever worked out in. There are many mobilities out there but for anyone in their 40s and above, strength training is a MUST. The fitness world often shows the twenty-something year olds with their six packs, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I really believe strength training and weight lifting is for us dynamic aging people who have families and strong interests and want to keep a high quality of living for as long as possible. The money I spend training with CeCe and Scott is yielding me my greatest return on investment--me living my best life, empowered and STRONG and BENDY. Thank you! Mari

Impression: Was invited as a +1 guest for the Yelp Elite event recently. The atmosphere of the gym was upbeat, fun, energizing. The decor is something like a cross between rustic meets gym rat. It is a smaller gym- definitely not the size of the chain gyms like 24 fitness. However, they do carry all the equipment that you may need and they are brand spankin' new. Experience: Met a few of their trainers who were very helpful and friendly. They had little 15 minute workshops where they worked with you on a variety of exercises. Favorite equipment there has to be the TRX suspensions. They've managed to set it up in an area where there's actually space so you don't feel so suffocated while working out. Takeaway: Definitely check this place out if it's in your neighborhood. I had fun however, this gym may be more suitable for those who want to actually socialize with others during their workout. Unfortunately for me, I like to be in and out of the gym. You didn't see me, I didn't see you. Tip: It's located on the street side so parking may be a bit difficult. Maybe they have a parking lot that I didn't see. I was lucky to swoop a parking in the plaza next door.

Looking for someone to help you either lose weight/get healthy or train for a more active lifestyle? This is where you need to go! I started training with CeCe English (co-owner) in 2006. When I started, I weighed 250 pounds and was very inactive. Her help combined with eating healthier has lead me to lose 115 pounds (at my lowest), take up running, swimming and cycling to the point of competing in TWO Ironman competitions, one 1/2 Ironman, countless 5Ks, 10Ks, 1/2 Marathons, 100 mile bike rides, swimming from Alcatraz...... I am a completely different person now! She also trained and worked with me through TWO back surgeries to the same disc. I have had lapses on my diet but staying constant with CeCe has allowed me to always find my way back! Her partner Scott is a wonderful trainer in his own right so whichever personality or schedule works for you, you will find a home here! They are VERY focused on getting people into doing things outside of the gym because we all know that working out means more when it serves a purpose like getting ready to do something....even if it's only a 5K! I have one this Saturday, gonna walk it (no more running with the back) and I'm gonna KILL it! Thanks to CeCe!

After a few meager attempts to get into an exercise routine, it became clear I would need to pay someone to kick my proverbial butt on a regular basis. I was excited to find a gym with such consistently great reviews nearby, and WESTCA absolutely lives up to the hype. I have a decent amount of experience with lifting and resistance training, but I also have some physical limitations, so the semi-private training format has been perfect for me. It provides the structure and accountability I was looking for while still meeting me where I am in terms of experience, fitness level, and physical capability. I've been training with Ivan, who consistently brings good vibes. His instructions are clear, he's quick to adapt exercises around physical limitations when needed, and he progresses training safely and thoughtfully with encouragement along the way. Progress has been steady, and I love feeling stronger and more energetic. As many other reviewers have mentioned, WESTCA is a smaller gym with a welcoming, low-pressure atmosphere. It's the kind of place that makes it easy to stay consistent. If you're looking for a gym, WESTCA is an easy recommendation.

I originally planned to train with Adam for just 3 months, but the amount of progress and muscle growth I saw in that short time was insane, so I decided to keep going. What makes Adam such a great trainer is how flexible and dedicated he is. I travel a lot and work a demanding software engineering job, but he's always willing to adjust schedules and make things work. You can tell he genuinely cares about his clients and loves what he does. Even on days we don't train, he still checks in, gives me pointers, and helps me stay on track. He also does a great job tailoring workouts to your specific needs and constantly adds different exercise variations to keep things effective, challenging, and fun. Every workout feels personalized instead of repetitive. The gym itself is amazing too -- it has every piece of equipment you could possibly need, plus all the little extras that make training better. Everything is always incredibly clean and spotless, which makes the environment even more motivating to be in. On top of all that, Adam keeps workouts fun and motivating. We always have great conversations, and over time he's become more than just a trainer, he's become a friend too. Highly recommend him to anyone looking to level up their fitness.

This location has a dark and dingy vibe with machines and cardio in the main room, and free weights/cables in another expansive room in the back. There is a separate studio room in the back. Two stretching areas, one with turf and a sled. Machines break periodically but I've witnessed staff working on repairs and broken machines usually are back up in a couple of weeks. Has a selection of machines that you won't typically find at smaller gyms, such as a handful of pneumatic weight machines (using air pressure instead of weight stack), hack squat, and hip thrust. Adequate amount of benches and squat racks (~5). There are two dedicated lifting platforms + bumper plates, though there is a second space suitable for deadlifts off to the side. Steel plates were replaced with urethane ones a couple of years ago. There are 2 newer barbells with good spin for dynamic barbell movements. Staff is generally friendly though occasionally understaffed at the front desk. Cons: Chronic shortage of change plates (5lbs and 10lbs). Not sure if they are lost or patrons are sneaking them home. It's pretty much impossible to find a 5lb plate during peak hours, though this can somewhat be circumvented by getting creative with 25s and 35s or by using the 10lb bumper plates from the lifting platforms. Additionally, the men's restrooms is very dirty with a stench. Water from the sinks comes out at a trickle, and sink is usually filled with hair from people shaving. My wife says the women's restrooms aren't much better. Great gym if you're there for getting your workout done. Look elsewhere for a cleaner gym and nicer amenities.
