Sincerely the best of any resort we've stayed at -Genuinely friendly staff -The cleaning crew was phenomenal and didn't miss a spot The not-so-good: -Paper thin walls. We were woken up multiple nights because the upstairs guests were walking around. Yes, plain footsteps - not even stomping - were very audible. For close to 1k a night, this shouldnt have happened. My cheap grad school duplex apartment didn't even have walls this thin! -Friction prevented us from giving the resort more money. There's room service but no menu in the room and it wasn't easily found online either. And we were so ready to drop a good amount of money on poolside drinks and food but nobody waited on us both times we were at the pool. (They did happen to wait on the social media star who was present, which was very obvious, and we made eye contact with another family who shrugged because they hadn't been waited on either.) And finally the coffee shop closed at noon. We would have happily patronized the shop for a treat and a coffee and were disappointed to find it closed so early. -Our perception was that there was nothing going on at the Wequassett. We stayed in June (and received the May newsletter; perhaps that would've given us more info if we had the correct one?) We had expected the poolside bar to be open. Maybe some live music. Smores for the kids by the fire (we would've purchased this.) So many opportunities for improvement! We stayed at the cliff house in Maine last year and there was a number displayed around the resort that you could text and they'd send a message with info about was going on at the hotel that week! Such a memorable touch - Wequasset could consider something like this. All in all, not awful, but not blow-your-socks-off fantastic, either. Just plain average in the realm of resorts.

Every single time we visited, the service has been impeccable and I find it hard to think about any other resort that can get even close to Wequassett. The grounds are perfectly kept and the rooms have been recently renovated. And although, there's a trend even with classic high-end resorts (St. Regis, J.W., Ritz-Carlton) to make their renovations a little too modern for my taste, Wequassett successfully kept their old school charm. We always stay at their Signature Water View King rooms (and book well in advance as there's only a few of these) so I can't speak of other room types. The amenities are flawless and even though the main pool gets VERY crowded during summer weekends, the pool attendant always found 2 chairs for us. My only recommendation for this property is to have a backup plan for the main pool. Perhaps installing a deck and adding some more chairs there to accommodate more guests that prefer the beach vs. the pool.

My experience has been consistently positive, which is why I wanted to provide some balance after reading a few reviews that I don't believe reflect the overall experience. The biggest draw is, of course, the location. The oceanfront rooms are wonderful, and waking up to the sound and view of the Atlantic never gets old. I was especially happy to see that there is now an excellent restaurant on the first floor (independently owned, not operated by the resort). It's a great addition for dinner. I also highly recommend The Parrot for lunch or dinner and The Saltwater Diner for breakfast. We've returned to both many times and have never been disappointed. Hull itself isn't a destination with endless attractions, but that's exactly why I go. If you're looking for a peaceful beach getaway, it's perfect. If you're traveling with children under about 10 years old for several days, however, they may run out of things to do beyond the beach. My grandchildren love swimming, but after a few hours they're ready for other activities, so we will wait until they're older before bringing them for an overnight stay. Over the years, I've never had problems with the front desk, the cleanliness of the rooms, or parking. On one visit, our air conditioning stopped working, but maintenance repaired it the very same day. The staff also immediately offered to move us to another room if we preferred not to wait, which I thought was excellent customer service. I've noticed some complaints about parking. The covered parking is reserved for condominium owners, and it's clearly marked as such. Resort guests use the designated outdoor parking area. In all my years of visiting, I've always found a parking space without difficulty. I've also seen just a few complaints about the indoor pool. Personally, I can't imagine choosing an indoor pool when one of New England's most beautiful beaches is just steps away. The beach and ocean are the reasons we come. After 15 years of annual visits, I continue to recommend Nantasket Beach Resort without hesitation. For anyone looking for a relaxing oceanfront getaway with comfortable accommodations and friendly service, it has been a wonderful choice for us year after year.

We were greeted with a dirty apartment, a large wad of black tangled hair on the bathroom wall, a large wad of seemingly dog / animal hair in the foyer, a loud door in the foyer that slammed loudly and shook the apartment unit upon opening, and a musty smell that I can only assume was mold. Of course, I immediately requested to switch rooms to the main hotel grounds. We checked into an actual hotel room that was clean and normal. The breakfast, beach bar and ocean terrace were all fine experiences. The beach is the reason we return to this hotel property and did not disappoint ... until my husband was assaulted by another hotel guest's child, left unattended, on the beach. We were sitting on the beach when a child threw a large rock the size of my palm right at my unassuming husband's face. The child's parents did nothing. I immediately jumped up to attend to my husband and walk him back to our hotel room to ice his face. After he was situated, I explained the scenario to the concierge and a manager who was walking by. They took down my number and told me they'd reach out after corresponding with the hotel beach bar manager. I never heard back from anyone. Upon check out the next day, I followed up only to be left waiting in the lobby for 30+ minutes and then accosted by the hotel room booking manager. He was dismissive, haughty, rude, condescending, inappropriate, unprofessional and misogynistic. He said, "You should've contacted the police" "I don't know what you want me to do" "What do you want to get from this" when I simply asked him what hotel protocol or recourse would be as this was a hotel guest assaulting another hotel guest on hotel property. My husband's glasses were broken and he was bleeding. They did nothing to correct the situation, apologize or help. I would never stay here again and I am so disappointed as I was excited to show my husband the hotel that my late father, mother and I would return to each summer in my childhood.

The rosé was poured into a plastic cup. The staff members were very friendly. I really adored my time on The Front Lawn on a weekday evening. When we arrived about 5:30pm, it wasn't too crowded yet but as it got later in the evening, groups of people started to appear. We relished our food and drink and played some lawn games. It was so nice to be outside and take in the fresh air. The Front Lawn is a great spot for families and offers a relaxed, open-air atmosphere. At check-in we were told both resorts had restaurants and beach bars, which made it sound like there would be plenty of options. In reality, it was difficult to know what would be open or serving food at any given time. We couldn't find consistent hours on the website or in our check-in materials, and even employees often seemed unsure. The Riviera café was essentially grab-and-go. We used it for breakfast, but typically only one or two menu items were actually available and they were premade and reheated. The coffee options were good, though. We tried going there for lunch after discovering Jonah's was closed and found premade salads and leftover breakfast sandwiches. The employees actually directed us to Jonah's and seemed surprised when we told them it was closed. The beach bar was the most consistent food option, but choices were limited and mostly fried/heavy. At Jonah's, we waited more than an hour for four salads one evening and about 45 minutes for two salads and a pizza another. Places were frequently out of menu items or ingredients, and the beach bar was even completely out of silverware at one point. Unfortunately, the property also felt very worn. Our bathtub was rusty and had peeling paint, the bathroom door barely closed, our TV had a black line running through the screen, and our balcony railing felt loose enough to make us uncomfortable. Carpeting throughout the property looked worn and dirty. An ice machine was broken for our entire stay, the beach foot sprayer was broken, and many interior doors were warped from humidity. The heated pools were still quite cold, while the hot tub was almost unbearably hot. Housekeeping was another issue. Our room wasn't serviced until day three, after I contacted the front desk and asked for service. When they agreed to provide full service, we left the room so they could work. When we returned, the beds had simply been made with the existing sheets rather than having the sheets changed. Staff presence was inconsistent as well. People generally weren't particularly friendly or welcoming and often seemed unaware of what was happening elsewhere at the resort. Beach attendant coverage was unpredictable enough that at one point I grabbed the sand drill myself and installed our umbrella. There were positives. Our room had lots of convenient places to charge devices, which was surprisingly nice. More importantly, the private beach is gorgeous. It's easily accessible and the ocean views are fantastic. We paid for an ocean-view room, and I'm very glad we did because sitting outside and enjoying that view genuinely made the stay better. The location gives this property tremendous potential. Unfortunately, the maintenance issues, inconsistent housekeeping, confusing food availability, and lack of attentive service made it feel like the resort simply isn't being operated at the level its location deserves.

We got married at OceanCliff, and I wish I could say it was the celebration we dreamed of…read more Unfortunately, our experience with the catering coordinator assigned to us was deeply disappointing, and what happened afterward was far worse. Planning process: Our coordinator was repeatedly rude and condescending toward my mother throughout the planning process. She was also disorganized -- it took multiple rounds of corrections before she had our event details right. She also gave us incorrect measurements for pipe and drape, resulting in a $2,000 charge for a setup that couldn't be used as intended. Credit card fraud: About two months after our wedding, we noticed a fraudulent charge on the credit card we'd given the venue for our event. After investigating with our credit card company, we traced it to an email linked to this same coordinator's name, with an IP address in Newport, RI. We reported this to OceanCliff immediately. At first, they seemed genuinely engaged in getting to the bottom of it and asked us to file a police report, which we did. The Newport Police investigation confirmed the employee had stolen our credit card information and used it for personal purchases. Once the investigation concluded, OceanCliff went silent. Despite repeated requests, they never told us how our information was compromised, what changes they've made to prevent it from happening to other couples, or offered any acknowledgment of the time, stress, and violation of trust this caused during what should have been one of the happiest periods of our lives. We trusted this venue with our wedding and our financial information, and that trust was badly broken -- first by an employee, and then by a venue that stopped engaging once the legal matter was resolved. I can't in good conscience recommend OceanCliff to other couples.
