Cute little bakery located in idyllwild! The food/bakery items are on the pricier side.. however we did enjoy the live music and the garden like patio. It was a nice stop after a morning of hiking in the area. Overall the food itself was a little too expensive for what it was.. my mom and her friend had the soup of the day which was basically just chili and cheese (nothing really special) while my husband had a simple BLT (also nothing really special) and I had the blueberry pie (which was cute but really just a pie). Stopped by as we were walking through Idyllwild and are super glad we did! First of all the owner was absolutely lovely and service was fast and friendly. Their brownie and their blueberry muffin were fantastic! Highly recommend the brownie. Someone behind us said we were lucky they weren't sold out as people come to Idyllwild just to get a bunch of them and you can see why. Super gooey, rich, and overall fantastic. Tiny mountain town bakery/café with a relaxed vibe and outdoor seating only, on the patio or in nature as the backyard. Plenty of parking. Tasty breakfast menu and pastries. Good coffee. Don't expect much alteration to the menu or brown sugar for your coffee. Your meals are served in a to go compostable container. I sat on the patio overlooking the woods, surrounded by nature all the while listening to a wonderful local artist strumming lovely classic and original Country songs on his guitar. I ordered the scrambled eggs with one extra egg (3 instead of 2), avocado, country potatoes and 2 slices of wheat bread. The eggs were fluffy and everything tasted great. I enjoyed my coffee. The lady manager/Owner was friendly and helpful. The young female assistant on the other hand had a little bit of an attitude. Thus the 4 instead of 5 Stars. Pricing is reasonable. I took a day trip to Illywild with my mom and sister for Mother's Day because getaways are a must! My mom is a coffee lover! She enjoys going to new coffee places and bakeries. I found The Sunflower in a quick Yelp search. She ordered a latte and a danish. They did not have a regular danish by the time we arrived. So she went with the peach one. Danish is something she hardly eats. She took one bite and fell in love. I finished eating the rest of it. It was big and every bite was worth it. Having sweets is not bad if you have them in moderation and don't eat them often. read more

I almost don't wanna write about this place, because I wanna keep it all to myself... I found this place by accident, and it was the happiest accident I've ever had. When I tell you, I had the best brownies in my life, I am not kidding when I say I went back and got three more to take home. I'm almost considering coming up here at least once a month just to stock up on some brownies. They were so delicious, firm yet gooey at the same time, had a little bit of chocolate chips, and a light layer of powdered sugar. The staff was super helpful with recommendations, and we're very friendly and quick with service. This review is several months late but alas here we are. I ordered a sheet cake for my partner's birthday in October 2024. Chef Janie was very thoughtful and communicative. I gave her about four days and ordered it ahead of time. I went to pick it up and met Janie in person for the first time and she was a delight! Cute place and enjoyed the live music, and I guess I'm aware that everything in town is pretty overpriced but the sandwich was $16 for just cheese and egg. It was pretty bland, had to put a lot of salt, pepper, and hot sauce on everything for some flavor and same with my friends who ordered the breakfast burritos. At first I assumed the sandwich came with a meat since the options were listed below it, but then found out it was an extra charge and the cashier wasn't going to tell me. I asked the bread options and she listed croissant as one and I was super interested, then saw that the croissant was also an extra charge and she didn't tell me? It was just confusing. Not about to pay $18 for a breakfast sandwich. So I said nevermind and just give me the plain meatless one on sourdough haha. And everything is served in to-go boxes plastic utensils. This little cafe/bakery has gone through many owners and it hasn't been until this last iteration that we've been displeased. The prices do not comport with the quality of the food, the beverages or the service. I got the burrito and a dirty chai latte. The burrito was delicious!! The dirty chai wasn't as spicy as I'd like but it was fine. Customer service was severely lacking, with the lady at the counter giving aggressive responses of "speak up" and giving attitude when we asked for a mocha cold brew. The iced coffee and latte we received were very bland for the price. The lady who made our coffees was very nice. read more

Great little place for a quick pick-me-up. We stopped by this local gem on our way back from a morning walk. Small little coffee shop with some baked items in a display case. While we didn't have coffee, we did buy an everything bagel and a spinach&feta pastry. Spinach & Feta pastry: 4 stars! Very good pastry. The lovely girl behind the counter offered to warm it up for us but we declined since we had a kitchen of our own here in the cabin. While this is not the best pastry I have ever had, I will say that it is quite good - not dry, and and the spinach flavor was there. I am always happy to see savory selections of pastries offered in an otherwise sweet (bakery) world. Service: 5 stars. I have not had anything I have not loved from breakfast sandwiches and burrito's to lunch sandwiches to bread, croissants and pastries for home and love their pies and the flourless chocolate cake is yum! The service is always friendly and helpful and I always feel right at home whether I'm dashing in for takeout or enjoying the beautiful patio that is just so special. Really looking to trying out their dinners which I think are weekly or monthly. We were so lucky to have found The Sunflower Bakery. Janie saved us and our wedding cake, when our another vendor became none responsive. Our wedding cheesecakes were such a huge hit that all of our guests were asking for more. She accommodated our dietary requests with such kindness and honest genius-ness. I'm from Montreal so I immediately knew the owners were Canadian which was very exciting for me. Second visit today in a rainy day, wanted to have breakfast here. The food was well prepared. Not heavily spiced and served in take out box which I appreciate. I knew I wouldn't finish so I like that I could take the leftover after I finished. The place is very dog friendly. We were allowed to walk our pup in the cafe (some places allowed dogs but outside only and dog cannot walk inside with us.) coffee is ordinary, nothing too special. I got the cappuccino. I'd occasionally go back to have breakfast there. They have pretty nice outdoor seating in the back during nice weather. I can see that in the late spring and summer, it'd be cozy to hang out there. Also got a cinnamon candle. A bit pricy but it's like a gift type of merchant so it's normal. Smells nice read more
