My boyfriend and I stayed at the Haunted Mansion Room and it was a blast! The innkeeper was so friendly and welcoming and, as people who can never sit still, we really enjoyed chilling in and exploring the several communal spaces (which were also 420 friendly). We were frequently visited by two sweet kitties which personally made my time even better! The provided buds and breakfast in the morning was an excellent touch! Quirky, cool and the perfect retreat to get some fresh air & hiking done in the San Bernardino National Forest. Highly recommended if you're a fan of cannabis and wish to partake in the privacy of your chalet (Room 420). Service was great and the breakfast waffles were delicious. The closest food options are about a 10 minute drive into town, but fortunately there are delivery services for Idyllwilde if you're lazy or too lit to drive from Hicksville Pines (lots of CHP along 243 so don't even risk it). I had a great stay and would definitely come back during the colder, snowier months. Truly a unique experience if you're looking to get away in the Southland. Thank you HP staff! read more

Great place! We stayed twice and will go there again, because each room in this hotel is a separate universe:) I really like the attention to detail, vintage interior items and the attentiveness of the staff to everything that happens. The surroundings are clean, as are the rooms, simple but delicious breakfasts (thanks for the waffles, they are incredible!), cozy atmosphere and very cool staff! The concept, themes and decor are amazing. The staff is super friendly and available, the complimentary breakfast is delicious. There are a lot of amazing things about this place and I'm glad I got to experience it. I cannot stress how wonderful the staff is. The reason I'm leaving 3 stars is because there were a lot of things that were out of order. Most of the games in the rec room were not working (if I'm remembering correctly, there was one pinball game, a hockey type foosball game and the shuffle board that WERE working) and the juke box was also out of order so we didn't really stay in there for longer than 5 minutes, which was disappointing. They did give us the option to connect our phone to a speaker, but there's no charm in that. I was looking forward to spending time in the communal spaces. The cover to the communal hot tub was broken. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and the door to the bathroom had no handle or latch, so it was a swinging door with a hole where the handle should be. We also found a sock in the couch from a previous guest, and an earring an a safety pin in the shag carpeting. There is a private hot tub in that room, and when we wanted to turn on the jets we realized that those didn't work either. If everything was working and repairs were made this would absolutely be the best place in the world to stay. We spent 3 nights here and had a good time, but I personally would not book again. read more

Just stayed here this past weekend, and I must say I loved every moment. Went here for a little gateway with my boyfriend for our anniversary, we stayed at the Dita and the Third Man rooms. Both rooms had their own unique feel to it. The staff was friendly and provided free breakfast. There is a rec room where you can hang out and play games, listen to music and enjoy some pinball and games. Finally got to return to Hicksville Pines! This time we stayed in the 420. David was a very friendly and helpful innkeeper. Breakfast and the rec room were so fun (they were closed last time we came over the pandemic). The outdoor camping kitchen is well-organized and easy to use. Got lots of love from the resident kitties, Norma and Ed. Definitely want to keep coming back and getting to check out more of the chalets. We had the best time at Hicksville Pines! Staff is friendly and really take care of you. Upon arriving, you get a tour of the grounds and the room you are booked for. Loved the hospitality here! We stayed in the Dita where you immediately feel like you just stepped backstage at one of Dita Von Teese's burlesque shows. (Plus there is a hot tub and claw foot bathtub! You just relax into the serene, peaceful vibe of the area and even indulge in 420 friendly activities. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and they are very accommodating if you are vegetarian. There are a few fun activities you can partake in. There is a fun retro game room, ping pong table and fire pit hut. They have 2 sweet cats named Ed and Norma that roam the property. :) Can't wait for our next trip here, it's a wonderful time Indeed! read more

How have I not written a review of this place??? Wow I am slipping. I've been a sporadic patron of this place since it was first purchased and before its transformation into the awesomeness it is today. Before they converted, I spent a snowy day and night there, and since I have stayed a few more times - I even drove up for a family day with the kids to check out the upgrades years ago. This place is so cool, when we were planning our wedding (which, because of covid happened via zoom!) this was the place we were hoping to book for the event. The pricing is amazing and the quirkiness is just what we love. The most recent visit I rented the 420 room so I could partake in some gardening inside rather than just outside. The black lights and sunken bed were...intense lol I utilized the Jacuzzi, the archery range, and the lovely breakfast plate, not to mention the awesomeness of being in a room with stoner movies, a vending machine, and a complimentary nug for good measure. I can't wait to go back - and I will be this week. read more

Very unique and fun experience. 420 Room was very trippy and retro. Loved the sunken bed with beautiful Mountain View's. Very cozy "downtown" very close by with all the amenities you'd want. Next time I'll just buy some groceries there instead of bringing some from LA. The grounds are pretty small, but a definite vibe. The sink didn't drain which was kinda of gross, but overall a great experience. I'd recommend this room to anyone wanting a quick getaway. read more

This is such a fun and unique stay! We choose the Dita Room to celebrate our anniversary and it was perfect! (Only thing we wish was in the room was a TV lol) But the bathtub was heavenly, the bed was so cozy, and the hot tub was perfect for the chillier nights. The staff here are so sweet and kind. From checking in to just chatting, they're welcoming and cool. I stayed in the 420 room for a few days. The only negative I have is that the living room for me is not comfortable. The couch had no support or comfort whatsoever(very dingy look and feel to it). Which means I spent no time in there watching movies or hanging out. This is why I booked this room...that was my plan, get loaded, relax and watch movies. So I spent 90% of my time in the bed with my laptop(thank goodness I brought it . Yes, there are many other amenities that are on the grounds, but that's not what I personally went for. Filthy, Fabulous, and Utterly Divine Stayed in the Mondo Trasho room at Hicksville Pines for my birthday, and honestly? I've never felt so glamorously unhinged in my life. The décor is pure John Waters fever dream--equal parts trash and treasure--and I mean that as the highest compliment. The vibes? Impeccably weird. The property? Like someone dropped a retro pop-culture time capsule in the woods and said, "Let's make it campy and gay." The innkeeper? An absolute gem who somehow manages to run a hotel, serve breakfast, and maintain a vibe that's equal parts rad and chill. And the complimentary coffee + breakfast? So good I almost wrote it a love letter. Met the resident royalty, Eduardo and Norma, the sweet cat duo who clearly own the place. I was merely their guest. Highlights: in ground hot tub, rec room replete with free play arcade games, and all the greatest jukebox tunes to roll a joint (and smoke) to. Short drive to everywhere we wanted to go. I would of given a 5 star, but we did get the honeymoon suite to sit in the heart shaped bathtub, but the jets did not work so we didn't get to use the tub, and unfortunately the hot tub had lots of styrofoam from the cover that was falling apart in the water , so wasn't able to enjoy that, but other than that the place was really nice and peaceful .. We came up for a one night getaway, and they did not disappoint! Incredibly nice and communicative staff to assist with our needs. Our room (The Dita) had fun decor and the best view of the mountains from the balcony with private hot tub. Lighting in all the rooms were a bit dim, but I feel like it's an intentional part of its charm. Love this kitschy hotel so damn much! We've stayed here 3 times over the years (420 room all the way), and this latest time was a full property rental for my 40th bday weekend. Check-in was easy, the amenities are awesome (just be patient with some of the vintage games in the rec room), and the place is overall super lovely! Breakfast is delicious, they accommodate different dietary needs, and every room is super cozy! We got to do a little room hop since we had the full property, and I can confidently say that every single room is special and has quite a few unique features to them. You can't go wrong! read more
