4.5 Stars! (May / Warm 50º - 78ºF) When we arrived, previous guests had a very smokey fire in the room. It was a little difficult for me to get any sleep the first night because of the smoke smell. But airing it out the next day (and a 10mile hike) helped! AS IDYLLWILD STARTER SPOT = 5-stars! If this is your first time to Idyllwild, this is great. Easy to find. Easy to walk to town. Quiet and away from town center. Budget between "cabin" and "hotel" FIRST TIME to Idyllwild. The address is on Hwy 243. Unlike other major roads, it is empty after 8pm - so don't worry that it might be noisy. It's not. On the plus side: If you've never been here, it's very easy to find. But also away from the center of town (but not so far that you can't walk to it) INNKEEPERS & STAFF The innkeepers who greeted us when we arrived and checked us out were very helpful and extremely friendly. There is a small shop for gifts in the lobby area. Some booking services might not have all of the right information. Call the front desk with questions. They are super helpful. PARKING Easy to find and plenty of parking out front ROOMS (Evergreen) We stayed in one of the original (older) rooms. It has been upgraded with new plumbing and a jacuzzi style jet tub alongside the shower. The room is spacious and comfortably fits all of your gear on one side of the room away from the bed. A big hearth in front of the fireplace is perfect for a make-shift table. The drawback to this particular room (Evergreen) is that you are under the stairs to the rooms above. Not terrible, as most people were in by 9pm. But you will hear them creaking up and down when they leave their rooms. You can't hear them in the rooms. There are other rooms that are not connected or under other people's rooms. Clean sheets Clean towels Nice shower (saloon doors on old shower) Separate toilet/tub room. Pillows are a little flat HVAC works well (workers came in to check it while we were there) Fun/Silly books and board games in the room. - Didn't use fireplace - Didn't use television - Just needed a spot to sleep and shower before the next day's adventure. This was perfect +. COMMON SPACES INSIDE; There is a fantastic common space in the main house/lobby. Large long tables for where they used to serve breakfast. (There is no breakfast service: hotel style coffee en suite) The long tables are great for spreading out maps, games, whatever needs a bunch of space outside of your room. OUTSIDE; 1. Back Deck: There's a warm, sunny deck, protected from wind and hwy sounds. Everyone's room opens onto this space. 2. Gazebo: A small 4 seat gazebo is in the southern garden area. With views of the creek area, this is a great spot to take a nice afternoon rest stop. Nice place to sit to read, or sketch, or just close your eyes for a minute and say "I'm NOT asleep". GETTING AROUND: TO TOWN: The inn is a perfect distance from town. About 7-10 minutes to walk, there's a path that leads from the back door of the inn to the edge of town. STRAWBERRY CREEK is what it's all about. Walking this path back and forth to town is FANTASTIC. The path to town might be THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE INN. The stairs down to the creek path are a little severe, but the path is VERY easy to walk. Driving to town feels silly = 2 minutes. IDYLLWILD PARK (& Campground) Perimeter Hike (4 miles). Strawberry Creek Inn is a short (2-4 block walk) to the campground. The perimeter trail isn't especially technical (although a little steep in some spots), but it's basically just across the street from the inn. read more

What a fabulous stay! The property is walkable to town but there's plenty of parking if you choose to drive! There is also a Mexican restaurant next door for quick food too! The property itself was gorgeous, we stayed in the ember lodge and it was just stunning!! We had a full bath, living room, separate bedroom and a huge private deck. I really loved the decor and all of the books! Everything was very clean and cozy. There is a little creek and hiking trail along the property as well, it was really cute we saw wild apples and blackberries and the biggest squirrels we've ever seen! They charged me $100 EXTRA to be on the creekside, We checked into the first room and there were piles of dirty towels in the bathtub, the trash cans were full of trash, dog hair all over the pillows and messy unmade bedding with dirty sheets, dirty counters. They moved our room and the counters were dirty in that room too. I was not worth the price at all. read more

Hubby and I wanted to take a couple of nights of retreat from the crazy holidays and stumbled upon Strawberry Creek Inn. I'm SO glad we did!! This place had a full renovation around six months ago (my timing may be off) so, many of the pictures on Yelp are not up-to-date. They have a whole new lobby layout and updated rooms, etc. it's beautiful and fresh. The staff made us feel so welcome and made sure we were comfortable in every way. We stayed in the Mountain View room and absolutely loved it! It has a king bed and two comfortable chairs next to a huge working fireplace, which we fully enjoyed and made good use of. One big plus about this room is there are four windows in all, one being on the opposite wall so you get a wonderful cross-breeze. The views are rooftops and trees, so it's very private. In general, the town has a ton of great restaurants and coffee shops, and will not disappoint! Oh Things to note: - Wood for the fireplace needs to be purchased. The cheapest is at the hotel lobby. We went through one bundle per night and that's if you want a nice raging fire. - The bathroom is broken up: small sink and countertop is in the room itself and shower/toilet is behind a closed door. This is a very cute new room, decorated with strawberry patch decor. It was not exactly what I was expecting though. I called a few times to make sure it would be a good fit as I have a dog and I do love that it is a dog friendly property. The listing is definitely a bit off on Hotels.com, so hopefully they update it soon. This room has a view of the parking lot and no blackout shades, among a few other things. I thought there was a deck / patio attached to the room, but it is shared. The room is right near the front so there isn't much privacy, but it is on the end so I'm grateful for that. I usually like the cabin feel, but this a standard room. A few more pictures of the outside / inside would be helpful for future guests. I usually stay at The Idyllwild Inn and love it there and this is their sister property. Definitely a good 15 minutes walk to town. There is a creek down the hill where you can walk to the Brew Pub. Monty the manager called me as he knew I was unhappy with my room and offered me my money back. Unfortunately most everything is booked in town so I didn't have much choice but to stay. It was very kind of him to call and try to offer a solution. I'm very grateful for his kindness and looking forward to my time in Idyllwild. read more

Staff is very friendly and helpful, especially Alexis. We called 3 to 4 places to no prevail, but on the 5th call... Strawberry Creek was our savior. We stayed in the courtyard. Location/Parking: About a 1/4 mile from downtown Idyllwild. Parking can be found in their lot. Courtyard Theme Suites: There's a total of 4 theme rooms. 1) Autumn - Fall colors accent a modern Queen Anne decor 2) Country Gentleman - Dark and rich wood paneling, masculine with odd curios (This was the room that we got for the 1 nigh stay) 3) San Jacinto - Mountain lodge décor that brings the great outdoors, indoor 4) Santa Fe - Step into this Adobe suite bedecked with shades of the Southwest We stayed at the Country Gentleman Suite in the courtyard which included a private fireplace (Electric / digital), skylight, VCR/DVD player, DirectTV with premium channels, refrigerator, coffee maker, private bathroom with shower, queen bed, daily housekeeping, and radiant floor Heating, Ambiance/Decor: Neat ambiance. Felt as if I was teleported to a different time period. Had this old rustic feel to the place. Neat-O. Entertainment: Go out and explore the grounds. You will also see a chicken coop where John gets the eggs to cooks his scrumptious meal for his visitors. Service: Service was great! John (inkeeper) was very nice, courteous, and kind. He also does the cooking (2 course complimentary breakfast meal. Herb butter biscuit with mixed fruit and strawberry toast with sausage was the offering for our breakfast on Sunday. The deluxe king suites list the ember lodge and the strawberry patch rooms as suite. The ember lodge room has a living room, separate bedroom and bathroo. This is indeed a suit and is pictured on the website. We booked the strawberry patch room assuming it was a suite since it is listed as a suit. First time doing a bed and breakfast in Idillwyld. The Strawberry Creek Inn was a nice little jewel. It has four rooms upstairs, they're all named with girls names. We stayed in Maggie's room....the only room with a bathtub. There are 4 more rooms that are detached from the main house. There is also a separate house next door that sleeps seven. Many nice patios outside with benches and tables to set and enjoy the day. It was a high of about 49 degrees so we didn't partake. There are some walking trails behind the property along strawberry creek. The path will take you to the brewery which is a fun place. Inside is decorated nicely, bottom floor has many overstuffed chairs and couches. Dining is to one side just off the kitchen. For breakfast we had a fruit cup with a fresh made biscuit and oven baked strawberry French toast with sausage. Heather was the innkeeper and was quite nice. Explained the house and stuff to do while in town. They have chickens and a chicken coop so the eggs are fresh. The chickens are Polish and very unique looking....see pics. Loved the bnb....my only negative would be the tv. It was about a 12 inch screen and almost not watching it was so small. So owners please upgrade before my next visit. read more

This was my second time at this Inn, the first time was at a busy weekend 5 years ago, the the second one was the weekend after labor day, and a fire was going on nearby, so we were the only guests, and the quality of service was fantastic in both. The place is so adorable, with lots of character and an old fashioned look and feel. Breakfast was delicious on both days, with eggs produced by the chickens outside, and they also pay attention to allergies. This was our first vacation with a newborn (5 weeks), and we can't wait to come back when she's old enough to appreciate it more. Highly recommend! read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Strawberry Creek Inn. Booking the room online was easy, and came with and added bonus of a discount by booking direct with the Inn. The Inn is old, rustic and very quaint. There are 4 rooms upstairs in the main house, several connected units just behind the main house, and a separate cabin on the property next door. Our room, Maggie's room, was up a short and narrow stairway. The room was a nice size with a queen bed, fireplace, bath with tub, and a tiny TV. The sink was outside of the bathroom and very small. Overall, the room was very comfortable and cozy, especially with the fireplace roaring! Tip: close the glass door of the fireplace to avoid setting off the fire alarm in the room :) The common area in the main house is inviting with comfy couches, lots of throw blankets, games, books to read and interesting decor. Heather, the innkeeper, was a gracious host. She sat with us when we arrived to go over what we needed to know about the Inn, and to review the map of the city with us. She searched the lost and found drawer and found a plug for my iPhone USB, which I had forgotten at home! Breakfast is from 9am-9:30am. It was delicious: fresh fruit bowl with a home made biscuit with butter and jam, baked strawberry French toast and sausage, and mango/passion/orange fruit juice. Outside is a coop filled with Polish chickens, where the Inn gets their fresh eggs. There are several patio areas with chairs to sit, which would be nice to do when the weather is warmer. After breakfast we took a walk along Strawberry Creek, which runs behind the Inn. The path is narrow and rocky, so walk carefully, rather than fast and briskly, and enjoy the fresh air and trees! Regardless we enjoyed our stay. The grounds are so cute with plenty of outdoor seating, beautiful views and even a chicken coop on site. The room was perfect for us with a queen bed, nice bathroom and even a little fridge which was a bonus. I liked the skylight above the bed... we saw stars before falling asleep. We've stayed at a several places in Idyllwild over the years, and most have been wonderful. Some are definitely more "functional." But you can't go wrong at the uber-romantic Strawberry Creek Inn. A few years back, it changed owners who gave it a face lift. The manager on site personally got a kick out of my special request via email of "any room except the one with the grandma lace canopy bed." I saw an old photo of the place and the grandma motif is long gone (thank goodness). We stayed in a Fireplace Premium Suite located in the main house on the first floor (rates start at $190 a night, typically with a 2 night minimum on the weekend). You'll feel one with nature snoozing in the outdoor hammocks or feeding the chickens in the nearby coop. They also serve a full breakfast every morning, where we got to bond with other overworked LA natives hiding out for the weekend. read more

I booked a room for the Idyllwild Inn and on checking in, was told our room was at the Strawberry Creek Inn owned by them. We were initially very pleased with Strawberry Creek Inn. However, our Carbon Monoxide detector alarmed in the middle of the night, waking us of course and our neighbors. I called the hotel numbers with no answer but one recording gave an emergency number, but no answer there either, so I left a message asking for a call back but never received one. Now very agitated, my son attempted to sleep in the car out in front and I in the room with the windows open. I found that the back of the CO alarm had a date of 2014, so expired. While there was not likely a threat of death while sleeping in this case, all CO alarms in all rooms from this owner should not be expired but in proper working order. While the place was nice, what I am paying for and expect is a good night's sleep and did not receive it. read more

I decided to take a girls trip with my 10 year daughter to Idyllwild, a magical place I have been coming to since I was 12 years old. I've actually had Strawberry Creek Inn on my list of places to stay for awhile now. This was such a great experience! Heather was so lovely, the food, fresh made each morning by her and no joke....so yummy! Our room "San Jacinto" was the perfect cozy space for us. We said several times how happy we were to be where we were. 5 star all the way! The sheets are so soft, I went online and bought them for home. Just a short walk to the main square, full of cool shops and food spots. My family and I recently stayed for two nights and had a great time. This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast; it was a pleasant and memorable one. On a funny side note, it is a bed AND breakfast NOT a breakfast IN bed. Check-in was fast, easy, and very informative. The inn as a whole was clean, cozy and inviting. It had a lot of extra amenities. It was also conveniently located a short scenic walk down the creek from the center of town. All of the staff were very amiable and accommodating. Breakfast was also very pleasant. We made time to enjoy all of the little purposeful features from the book nook to the seating area by the fire place and the tea cupboard. Spent this past weekend at this cute little bed and breakfast. The drive from Pasadena was about 2hrs 15 minutes. The inn is off Banning road and is tucked away nicely from the road. Staff was friendly and welcoming and oh my god they have the cutest chickens!! There are several rooms and cute cottages available whichever suites your needs. We stayed in the Autumn room it was clean and cozy. Room included AC, Tv/Cable, electric fireplace, skylight, coffee maker/cups with Wolfgang Puck coffee and mini fridge in closet. Bathroom stocked with towels, robes and complimentary shampoo and hand soap. Water pressure was great. Due to Covid their traditional brunch was replaced by a to go box which included warm scones. Town is in walking distance 10-15 min (if you like walking) from Inn. Would stay here again. read more

Quiet, picturesque. Close to hiking. The place to relax and not set the alarm. Friendly staff. The place is like a postcard. We could hike right outside our door. Lots of squirrels and Blue Jays. The office will even give you food to feed them. There is only a microwave to cook with. There are a few dishes, utensils & mugs. However, there's no real place to wash dishes so the room service people need to do that because bathroom sinks are not made to have food down the pipes. There are a lot of hiking trails close by. We were there on a perfect day in April. Lots of families and people happy to be out & about and free. read more

I don't know what took me so long to find this place but it is incredibly charming!! Ian and Rodney are the inn keepers and were very friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. The "snacks" in the evening that were made were surprisingly great MEALS and wish we could have skipped going out for dinner and hung out. There were grapes, cheese, phenomenal flatbread veggies pizza, decadent chocolate chip cookies, and some! Morning coffee is provided at 7am, breakfast at 9am, and dinner snack at 6pm (all included with stay). Theres hot water, water in fridge, hot cocoa, and variety of teas available for guests as well! So delightful to hang out with games, puzzles, art, free postcards that you can drop at box and they will send out for you, piano, endless books to read off shelves, movies you can bring back to your room to watch, and more. We come annually for tree lighting ceremony after Thanksgiving and so great to have been able to have scored this place booking 2 months out (as most places here gets booked out several months out for holidays). The people we've met that were staying here and hanging out for dinner were regulars the last 10 years so that should tell you enough how great this place is! Rooms are extremely clean, well kept, organized, easy to access, such a homey feel like I'm in the comfort of my own home. We booked and stayed in the Jacinto room (featured on home page of website). Direct access to main living area which was very convenient. But perhaps to some may not seem private enough but for some, they may prefer a separate unit/cottage but loved the setup of where our room was located. Needless to say, we will be back! You will absolutely love this quaint place and the fresh homemade food is superb! So glad I don't have to stress to get out to a restaurant in the morning. Lounge in main room plays relaxing music and is big enough to accommodate a small party . The have shelves filled with books and games which make a nice comfy feel. Ian and Rodney are the masters of great B&B innkeepers. They are the owners of a beautifully rustic, roomy inn in the quiet little mountain town of Idyllwild. The Inn projects a mood that forces you to slow down. Actually it makes you never want to leave. The proximity to the lazy little creek, all the fresh air and beautiful pines, is so inviting. The house's public areas are well thought out. The decorations and music soothing, tasteful, and interesting. The bedrooms are cute and offer a cozy fireplace, air conditioner, refrigerator and TV. This place has one of the best breakfasts in town, hands down. I wonder if sometimes we could just visit for the breakfast alone? It is such a treat. Rodney is a professional chef, and has published a beautiful coffee table-worthy book that features recipes and gorgeously mouthwatering pictures of some of the breakfast items he features at his B&B. After tasting two mornings of breakfast, and admiring all the other recipes in his book, I had to resist the urge to stay a whole month in hopes we could experience them all. We loved the added bonus of their using the fresh eggs they get from their very own happy brood of laying hens. Rodney also has a hot house and garden to grow his own herbs and tomatoes, and probably much more. And the coffee! Really good rich stuff from a specialty coffee roaster in Eugene, Oregon. My only complaints were two-fold. First, the bed and me did not get along. Not my type (but I am picky) and so I had difficulty sleeping. Secondly, the TV was old but hooked up to Direct TV, and we had to follow some rather complicated instructions (that were printed and placed next to the remote) to get it up and running. That was frustrating. But really. Who comes up to the mountains to watch TV anyway? Thank you guys for a really pleasant stay. We would absolutely recommend you to anyone! read more

Strawberry Creek Inn is a quaint, peaceful, rustic bed and breakfast mere minutes from downtown Idyllwild. My fiance and I decided to stay there to celebrate a career accomplishment of mine, and were able to find this place via Groupon for an incredible deal. Even prior to arriving, we were pleasantly surprised by the professional and friendly accommodation of the innkeeper and general manager, Heather, when we realized we would have to do a "late check-in." She was so helpful, punctual, and kind, it made the process so much smoother. We stayed in the Autumn room - which was perfect because it's currently October and the heart of fall - and the decor is SO cute, vintagey, and homey. The room was immaculately clean! Like really really clean, and there is a cute electronic fireplace to keep you warm and toasty. In the morning, you have breakfast in the main cottage which is surrounded by windows overlooking the trees and the squirrels and birds that move around outside. If you haven't yet, take a look at the pictures - if that doesn't convince you to stay here, maybe the breakfast will. The breakfast was DELICIOUS. 2 courses, usually fruit and a pastry, then the heartier second course. Seriously still thinking about that bread pudding! It's difficult to explain how peaceful and beautiful the grounds were and my favorite part of staying there was after breakfast, we would sit outside or wander around the grounds watching the tall trees sway. There was something so inherently tranquil about feeling like you're surrounded by wilderness, and the world is entirely your own. This was a quaint bed and breakfast nestled against the woods and beautiful creek bed one minute right outside of the main town circle. My wife and I really enjoyed the private feel to this place and were really made to feel at home by John, the manager/gourmet cook who was very accommodating! The first morning he made a two course meal with chopped apples, citrus and dates with a freshly baked scone that was buttery, soft and delicious. The main course was sausages cooked to perfection and the absolute best bread pudding that I've ever eaten! I wouldn't normally consider bread pudding for breakfast, but I know I'll be dreaming of it for a long time! We stayed in the Autumn room which has a skylight so you can enjoy looking up at the stars. It was clean and beautifully decorated! The bathroom fan wasn't working but I'm sure it'll be fixed the next time we stay there. Outside they have a cute little chicken coop and everything faces the pine trees that surround the creek. My wife and I enjoyed the little outdoor wooden swing and it was quite relaxing even despite the occasional car that would drive by on the nearby road. Perfect! This is a beautiful property. An old-school bed and breakfast. We stayed in the main house in "Maggie's Room" upstairs. We had a king sized, memory foam bed with comfy pillows too! The AC worked like a dream. There were many touches that added to the charm... some reading books, a fireplace, spa robes, wooden window blinds, a bathtub. The grounds surrounding the property are lovely too. The wind chimes, stained glass, flowers, chicken coop... everything added to the ambience. Highly recommend! read more

Comfortable, cozy and quiet - just how I like my getaways! Escape the hustle and bustle of the big city life at the unique little gem of an Inn... We enjoyed an inviting homemade breakfast each morning and met some great friends during our stay. The Inn is close enough to walk (yes, even in the snow!) to town along the main road or take a walk along the running creek which leads you to the new local brew pub! The staff is welcoming & hospitable but not overbearing in any way. We were able to come and go as we please and even play board games into the night. The atmosphere of the inn itself is eclectic and comforting. Our room (Maggie's Room) was located in the main house and had its' own fireplace. We enjoyed watching the fire as we drank wine and watched the snow fall outside.
