Breakfast basket in the morning was the cherry on top to this abordable vibey cabin inn. Just outside the small town of Idyllwild. The vibes were perfect. We had neighbors on both sides of us but rooms were pretty soundproof so we couldn't hear them too much which added to the cozy outdoor vibe. The air conditioning unit didn't work very well however the room got pretty hot and we had to sleep with only the single sheet but besides that lovely time and 100% would book again.

    Mattress is trash.

I booked Woodland Vista at the Idlewild Bunkhouse to celebrate my mom's 77th birthday--just the two of us, hoping for a peaceful getaway in nature. At first glance, the place looked charming, and we were genuinely excited. Unfortunately, that impression didn't last. Upon arrival, we noticed several issues that made the stay uncomfortable and disappointing. The kitchen window blind was broken, and the sofa bed mattress--where I slept--had visible yellow stains. In the bathroom, there was black mold, which is a serious concern. The main bedroom sheets appeared unwashed, with noticeable hair of different colors on them. The toilet was missing its cover, and basic essentials like paper towels or tissues were not provided. The kitchen was also lacking several basic items. While the cabin looks nice aesthetically, it is not functional or properly maintained. One of the main reasons I booked this place was for the fireplace, but it did not work at all. When I brought these issues to the property manager's attention, he simply noted them and took no action--he didn't even offer something as simple as clean sheets. Additionally, the balcony railing is loose and feels unsafe; leaning on it could be dangerous. Overall, this experience was very disappointing, especially given the occasion. I would not recommend this property to others.

Nice size cabins for party of different sizes, some with bunkbed or fireplace inside. The view is fantastic and pleasantly relaxing! Staff is very friendly and professional! A different and unique experience!

Hook in bathroom that fell off

This letter is in reference to our stay at the Idyllwild Bunkhouse in the Woodland Vista cabin on May 21st-23rd 2025. We booked this cabin on Expedia after reading tons of reviews, watching videos and reviewing all online outlets for the property. From the pictures that were presented, we were excited to enjoy our 15th Wedding Anniversary away in Idyllwild. We were greeted by Deb who was super friendly and welcoming. She checked us in and gave us our key. Looking from the outside, everything looked great. We enjoyed spending time on the private deck and enjoying nature. As time went on, we began to notice and document: -The first night, we didn't know about the heat and froze to death. The next day we asked Deb and she told us how to turn it on in the bathroom. Once we did, the unit was extremely loud and the tops and inside were very dirty. -Towel hook in bathroom fell down when a towel was placed on it. -Huge picture in living room just leaning against the wall -Unable to sit on couch as it had stains, was dirty and not being comfortable and being very loud. We had to sit at the dining table the entire stay which was very uncomfortable and not relaxing at all. -Bed was extremely uncomfortable and may possibly be broken on half the bed. -Tons of cobwebs everywhere and extremely dusty -Big black heater in main room doesn't work and it completely full of dust -Kitchen had oil stains running down the wall and pictures. -Duvet cover, sheets, chair in bedroom all had "white" stains on them. We pulled everything off the bed and slept on our own small blankets that we brought with us. -Bathroom tub was indented in and appears to have some type of mold in corner. We were going to take a shower however there was a black widow and the tub was leaking so we didn't use it. -On Thursday evening, we were eating in the kitchen when a mouse came running out from the bathroom. We were quick and were able to create a barricade to get it outside the slider. About an hour later, another mouse was seen trying to run out of the bathroom. As I screamed, it ran back around and hid somewhere in the bathroom. We had to keep the bathroom door closed the remaining portion of our stay so that it wouldn't come out. This had to be one of the most uncomfortable/worst getaways that we've been on. From the dirtiness to things being broken all around the cabin, we would not be frequenting this property again. At the time, we chose not to raise these concerns as we wanted to continue enjoying our time in town and not let the issues overshadow our vacation. Now that we've had time to reflect, we wanted to share our feedback with you first before we left our review with photos on Expedia. We kindly request a refund in light of the concerns outlined above.

The Bunkhouse is a great little hotel with lots of hiking opportunities. The property is lovely and the room was very clean and comfortable. We had a beautiful view from our deck. The hotel is just outside of town (about a 3-minute drive) which was very convenient. The pricing is very fair and we feel like we got a lot of value. Can't wait to go back!

Based on the reviews you'll see either you love it or you hate it. I loved it. The owner greeted me with a huge smile and by name where we got there. Perfect for a getaway you feel like you're in your own little cabin with Naughty Pine walls and cozy wall heaters. You get the park your car right out front and it's extremely dog friendly. So, If you enjoy a rustic getaway on a budget around beautiful nature and beautiful people, this is your spot. If you're looking for the Ritz, Carlton or Marriott, you may want to look somewhere else this. This is a charming bed-and-breakfast that I can't wait to go see again.

Our Great Dane loved the Bunkhouse!
    Nina S.

My husband, teenage daughter, and great Dane stayed here for two nights And we had a lovely time. This place is super cute, very rustic with a cabin vibe, and it's own special flavor of mountain kitsch (but in a good way). Everyone at the front desk was very helpful, and really sweet. They also give you breakfast in a little basket every morning, which is a nice touch. As to the other reviews that mentioned that it was dirty, we did not find that to be the case. But this is the mountains and when you're in the middle of nature, it tends to find its way inside. But for anyone else wondering about those other reviews, don't worry and come stay at this place. It was fun!

We enjoyed our 3-day stay in room 201 which included a king bed and a daybed. Seven of the rooms feature stunning electric fireplaces and this room was one of them. Our only complaint was that the Casper mattresses they use in their suites were way too soft. It's important to point out that there's no front desk in this establishment, but we did see staff at check-in and at various times throughout our stay. If we ever visit Idyllwild again, we will be booking another reservation at The Creekstone!

Within 5 minutes of arriving to our room, someone came to inform us that our son wasn't welcome because children under the age of 12 are prohibited. He also informed us that he would be charging us an additional $50 and that if there were any noise complaints, he would bring them to our attention immediately. First off, nowhere when booking does this hotel specify that children are prohibited. It's not clear unless you go to their policies page that it indicates children are 'discouraged'. Do you know why? Because the walls are paper thin. Our child was silent and asleep by 7:30pm but we could hear everything the adults next door were saying and watching on the TV (at reasonable volumes, mind you). And to top it all off, Google says this IS a kid-friendly hotel. Second, should you need anything, you can't get ahold of anyone. There is no front desk and you don't have any service so you can't call anyone or send a text through their SMS service. So I hope you don't need an extra towel or Kleenex because no one will be available to assist you. Except the guy who magically appears to charge you $50 and then is nowhere to be found. It's really too bad that such a nice hotel has such crappy service and is so unkind to families. They forget that parents are regular people too who enjoy get aways without kids and have plenty of parent friends who they will be informing to skip the Creekstone Inn and stay somewhere else.

If this is your first time to Idyllwild, this is great. Easy to find. Easy to walk to town. Quiet and away from town center. Budget between "cabin" and "hotel" FIRST TIME to Idyllwild. The address is on Hwy 243. Unlike other major roads, it is empty after 8pm - so don't worry that it might be noisy. It's not. On the plus side: If you've never been here, it's very easy to find. But also away from the center of town (but not so far that you can't walk to it) INNKEEPERS & STAFF The innkeepers who greeted us when we arrived and checked us out were very helpful and extremely friendly. There is a small shop for gifts in the lobby area. Some booking services might not have all of the right information. Call the front desk with questions. They are super helpful. PARKING Easy to find and plenty of parking out front ROOMS (Evergreen) We stayed in one of the original (older) rooms. It has been upgraded with new plumbing and a jacuzzi style jet tub alongside the shower. The room is spacious and comfortably fits all of your gear on one side of the room away from the bed. A big hearth in front of the fireplace is perfect for a make-shift table. The drawback to this particular room (Evergreen) is that you are under the stairs to the rooms above. Not terrible, as most people were in by 9pm. But you will hear them creaking up and down when they leave their rooms. You can't hear them in the rooms. There are other rooms that are not connected or under other people's rooms. Clean sheets Clean towels Nice shower (saloon doors on old shower) Separate toilet/tub room. Pillows are a little flat HVAC works well (workers came in to check it while we were there) Fun/Silly books and board games in the room. - Didn't use fireplace - Didn't use television - Just needed a spot to sleep and shower before the next day's adventure. This was perfect +. COMMON SPACES INSIDE; There is a fantastic common space in the main house/lobby. Large long tables for where they used to serve breakfast. (There is no breakfast service: hotel style coffee en suite) The long tables are great for spreading out maps, games, whatever needs a bunch of space outside of your room. OUTSIDE; 1. Back Deck: There's a warm, sunny deck, protected from wind and hwy sounds. Everyone's room opens onto this space. 2. Gazebo: A small 4 seat gazebo is in the southern garden area. With views of the creek area, this is a great spot to take a nice afternoon rest stop. Nice place to sit to read, or sketch, or just close your eyes for a minute and say "I'm NOT asleep". GETTING AROUND: TO TOWN: The inn is a perfect distance from town. About 7-10 minutes to walk, there's a path that leads from the back door of the inn to the edge of town. STRAWBERRY CREEK is what it's all about. Walking this path back and forth to town is FANTASTIC. The path to town might be THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE INN. The stairs down to the creek path are a little severe, but the path is VERY easy to walk. Driving to town feels silly = 2 minutes. IDYLLWILD PARK (& Campground) Perimeter Hike (4 miles). Strawberry Creek Inn is a short (2-4 block walk) to the campground. The perimeter trail isn't especially technical (although a little steep in some spots), but it's basically just across the street from the inn.

The photos had 2 end tables with lamps on them, The tables and lamps were removed and replaced with cheap short metal tables with no lamps. TV required log-in ID and password that were not provided inadvance nor in any welcome manual. Texting the manager/representative provided that information that was incorrect. We hoped to watch the World Cup USA game on tv but the password they gave out was wrong. They did not indicate that their password (ldy2025) began with a Capital "I" (eye) NOT a lowercase "l" (el). We realized this the next morning, but game was over. Regardless, we couldn't watch TV in the anyway. There was only one large upholstered armchair. The chair was next to the TV and you could move the chair to face the tv but you would be 3-4 feet from the tv screen. I imagine both of us could sit on the edge of the bed. There is a small kitchen in the room with stovetop, sink, microwave and refrigerator, with NO TABLE. There was no desk. The only place to eat your prepared meal is on the bed, the ONE armchair or the flooor. The room was very dark until the neighbor arrived or chose to move their car. Outside one of the 2 windows was a car parked within 2 feet of our window. All activity with that vehicle (coming and going) was heard and seen, car headlights in the window and through the blinds. Ridiculous! The bathroom was horrible with badly repaired holes in the walls, cheap dingy vinyl floors, very small room with a large step up to a platform with the toilet and tub. This was odd and very uncomfortable. We own many properties listed on Airbnb and VRBO with over 20 experience and we know how to provide comfortable housing, to which the guest will want to return. This unfortunately is not one of them.
