It's time to update my review because the shop has changed hands and even though I'd given it a five-star review, that was over a decade ago. I am happy to say however they still easily get five-star status from me. Though a smallish shop, the people are absolutely aces. First off, Dawson is awesome. He's the young mechanic and has worked on my bike twice and done a stunningly good job--and fast!--both times. Indeed, everyone here is awesome: when I damaged my Stumpjumper on a jump, they offered me several options for its repair, one being upgrading a part but they never tried to press me on that (it's what I chose anyways) and they were very matter-of-fact about every way it could be remedied. I never, ever, have felt like they're trying to upsale me anything here which is a big deal with bike shops. I have two good but not top-of-the-range mountain bikes: many stores may look at that type of person as a customer they'd try to get to trade or buy a new, even higher-end, bike because they see he's serious but doesn't have the very best. Not here. They are just decent, forthright, and honest in trying to get me what I want and get it done quickly as possible. If I do decide to upgrade to something like an S-Works bike, this would be where I'd come because they'd done right by me thus far and their skills in fixing things are also superb. read more

How is it that I can walk into this shop start speaking to you about what I WANT TO BUY and you walk off while I'm in mid sentence, for you to talk to some fat old man about money you don't have? Hello?! Anyone home? The way to solve that is by helping customers who are walking in the door with cash in hand to make a bike purchase, that seems kind of obvious to me but I guess you weren't interested in making a sale. $2000 cash in hand and you didn't even acknowledge as I was walking out the door. -$50 for a flat rare tire, only stayed for three weeks. I replaced the inner tube on my own for the front tire and it stays just fine. -staff got bad attitude when I revisited. Showed no sympathy and not caring at all, looks like it's my own business to spend extra time and carry my bike twice to their store in one month -it's no big deal to replace an inner tube on my own. I've been a customer of Super Cool Bike Shop since it opened, and before that, a customer of The Bike Route, where Martin, the first owner of Super Cool got started in the bike shop business. In all those years and many, many visits for repairs, purchases, and special orders, I've had only good experiences. All of the friends I've referred to Super Cool report back the great experiences. I can't dispute those who posted negative reviews because I wasn't there at the time, but be assured, those occurrences are extreme outliers. read more

I've always had a good experience at this bike shop, and I think I'm not alone in that since this is the only consistent bike shop in Gainesville. Services are priced fairly, the staff are very helpful, and the turnaround time on a repair is generally quick (delays with covid, but that's understandable). I've mostly gone in for repairs/maintenance, but I did buy my first road bike from there years ago. All good experiences, and the employees are more than knowledgeable about cycling. Of note, they mainly carry specialized (pretty sure), but they work on all bikes. My one issue is their website could use some work, but I get that their main goal is in-person service so I won't fault them with that. read more

Super Cool seems to have a long and varied history on Yelp. I give them good marks from a service and friendliness perspective. We bought my daughter her first "real" bike here and it was generally a good experience. I love their trade-in policy for kids bikes. Their inventory selection isn't great but is adequate for most consumers. The shop also features a very nice golden retriever which certainly adds to the ambiance. read more

I took my mountain bike in for a "tune up" was told it would be two Weeks Becus of covid and shut downs things are delayed, understandable.... When I picked it up after the two weeks, nothing was done to it.. NOT EVEN AIR ON TIRES.. but yet I was charged 50$ for lubing cables.. and hence this is the ONLY bike shop in a gainesville!!! Okay, so my husband and I had two bikes (worth, new, about $600 each) that had been sitting in storage for a few years. Talking like, a basement, a garage, and then an outdoor shed. So kind of just dusty moldy grimy gross and the tires were all deflated. I originally intended to go to Goodbike, but the entrance had a gate and there was some sort of sale and I couldn't tell if it was beginning or ending and the hipster at the gate didn't even look at me when I asked if this was open parking for goodbike, he just said "no" and never paused what he was doing. Okiiiiiii. So with my social anxiety self, I just googled the next closest bike shop with good reviews and it was Super Cool Bike Shop. I battled a bit of traffic (that's on me for timing), and arrived, a little embarrassed that I didn't have a bike rack. The guy was (pun intended) super cool and said no worries the bike is fine, lemme take a look. He lifted it out for me, said ok this this and this probably need to be fixed, well call you if it's over this amount. Basically gave me expectations. To be fair, I called and told him the bike was mildewy with cobwebs, and he was expecting worse. He gave me a ticket and said okay we'll call you. The bike was done a day early. I expected a bill of $130-ish, it ended up being $72. So we took my husband's bike. His was done 6 days early and ended up about the same amount. I have no complaints, my bikes were done up and fully functional. The service here lives up to its name, there was no fuss and no pretension. He even gave me specific recommendations when I said I was considering a bike trailer for my kids, without making it sound like a sales pitch. I went to Super Cool Bike because I was looking for cycling/spinning shoes and get 10% off for being a GHFC member. The store has a nice vibe to it and is very aesthetically pleasing. However, the guys that were there were not very helpful. Maybe it was because my shoes were for spinning (even though it's not necessarily a different type of shoe) and not to actually ride a "real bike" with (although I did end up with an actual road bike from Gator Cycle), but they essentially just showed me some stacked shoe boxes on the floor and said those were my options and didn't explain anything. The only reason I knew I needed an SPD cleat was because my spin instructors told me beforehand. I still ending up buying my shoes there and they were still a $100 investment, but if it hadn't been for the 10% off I would have looked elsewhere. The selection of shoes was small, displayed poorly and the salespeople treated me like second class because I wasn't a "real cyclist. read more

Super Cool Bike Shop is the third and I suspect the last bike shop that I will "try" in Gainesville. I wish I knew about this place when I first came here. The other shops in town are either pretentious or flat out rude. Here they replaced faulty equipment and even have upgraded when they didn't have the right replacement to make sure I'm happy. All of the people I've dealt with are friendly, patient and knowledgable and should you go in when it's crowded, you can find a sense of community among the staff and customers, new and old. I've been cycling for over a decade now and I've seen my share of bad bike shops. Start here and avoid wasting your time and money at other places. (side note, making a left out of this place can be somewhat awkward, especially if you park in the plaza's lot and not the parking lot that services only the bike shop.) read more

I own a road and a mountain bike. I have dropped them off at Super Cool bike Shop at least 7 times and it is always a different story. - I pay for the bike to be cleaned, but it is only wiped down with a rag. - I paid to have my rear cassette swapped out with a Shimano Ultegra, they installed a Shimano 105 (much cheaper version with less gears) and charged me the same amount. - Only the owner can be approached to discuss cycling products, the rest of the guys (specially the "Techs" in the rear of the shop) are completely uninterested in helping you buy anything. They are big on one-word answers (I was inquiring about road jerseys: "Hey man, you guys have these in another color?" - response: "no"...... So I asked him something else: "Do you carry presta-schrader adaptors?" - response: "outside")... I just wanted to buy the entire store after that... LOL The owner is cool, the employees are not, the prices are high, and they are big on not providing the service they advertise.. you be the judge! read more

Avoid these guys at all costs! Bought my Cannondale bike here (only because they are the only ones in town to carry Cannondale) and had a terrible experience. The workers are not friendly at all; as a matter of fact, they make you feel like a burden. The person behind the counter wasn't interested in helping me, let alone get out of his chair. After the initial test tide the bike was making weird sounds I took it back and they said they would fix it. When I went to pick it up (again) I discovered that they had screwed down the derailleur cable preventing me from switching gears. I called and spoke to the owner; when I asked him why they didn't test the bike before returning it to me as "fixed" he responded that "they didn't have time to test bikes". This is completely inexcusable behavior on all levels. Do yourself a favor and stay away from here. If you must have a Cannondale, buy it online and have another local bike shop assemble it for you. read more

I have to give this bike shop a solid review and here's why. Came in with my 20 yr old GT outpost mountain bike needing two new tires and tubes due to dry rotting. They opened the door 10 min early since they saw me waiting outside. When does that ever happen? So he got on my job while I was waiting and quickly put some hybrid Kenda tires on my bike for a fair price I might add. Only reason they did not get 5 stars was this was my first time there, but guess what I will go back anytime I need my old bike worked on or if I need to finally purchase a new one. read more

My husband was looking for a good bike to use both for causal biking and potential begin getting into triathlons. He did several days of research on his own to get an idea of what he was looking for. Still when it came time to look at bikes he had some questions since it's a good amount of money that he wanted to put towards a bike. The staff present was incredibly helpful in his search, and was willing to answer all of his/our questions. We ended up getting a very nice bike for him here, since we are typically in the market for bikes it's hard to compare it to another place. But our experience was pleasing. Their prices we're a bit higher, but it seems to scale with the quality of bike(s) they sell. They also sell a bunch of bike gadgets, random sports goods and helmets. read more

I love supporting local bike stores, but it is safe to say that supercool will no longer receive my business. I have been there multiple times to purchase products from them (bike computers, tires, tubes, pedals, shoes); however, each time I found myself preferring not to buy from them. The staff was unable to answer most of my questions with regards to some of their products and in some cases even gave me WRONG information. Having researched the products thoroughly before I bought them I was able to pick up on their lack of knowledge and decided to take my business elsewhere. Shopping at at this store is an uncomfortable experience with the staff constantly looking over your shoulder and pressuring you to make a purchase.. Just bought a Specialized Rockhooper from these guys. They were friendly and down-to-Earth, and gave me good advice to pay a little extra for better components on the Comp model. OMG, this shop is the worst. The "mechanics" haven't a clue. They damage parts on your bike and do nothing to remedy the damage. Reinstall parts, like a rear wheel and don't make sure everything is realigned correctly or even make sure that all the connections are back where they belong. One person starts the work and someone else finishes and when you have a question or a PROBLEM the tech that "caused the problem" can't be found anywhere. The new owner could care less that his tech damaged your bike and he does not want to fix the damage. You would think that after spending over $4000 with them, buying the bike and setup to start with, that they would want to keep you as a customer. Well guess what, they don't care. 11 years in business? I really don't see how they've made it. Even the man checking out before me, that had his rear wheel worked on, "because another shop didn't install it right." As he pushed his bike out you could see easily that even his rear wheel was misaligned. I took my bike in for such an easy thing...a new front derailleur cable. A five minute job, right. No, not a chance. First the tech broke the shifter. Why, because he tried to remove it over the handle bar. Instead of just disassembling the shifter, because he could'nt get the new cable to slide through the shifter easily. The first tech could not get the bar end off the left side due to the fact that the bolt head was "stripped." The tech told me he would have to cut through the bolt or drill it out and replace the bolt. The second tech, that was there when I picked the bike up, told me "no, it came right off with an Allen wrench." Then, when speaking to the "owner" he tried to recant what the second tech had just said. One of the techs that worked on the bike had obviously used a hammer on the bar end, it now has several bad dents in it that you can see were made by a hammer. They refused to replace the bar ends they damaged, but of course they wanted to get paid for the work they did. What about the damage they did? When i told the "owner" that they didn't even align the trailer hitch back up, he said "I'll take care of that." That is when I told him "are you kidding? This shop will Never touch my bike again." This shop might sell Bionix systems once in a while, but they are NOT dealers. If you value your money, time, saintly, and the bike you bought, go somewhere else. If you want a Bionix system go to Gator Cycle, not here. This is the second time i have had problems with this shop and I will not go back. I will also Never recommend them again, as I've done in the past. They are just like one of those auto shops everyone knows, that you take your vehicle in for one thing and they want to make you have a lot of work done that isn't nesesarily needed. Do yourself a favor, don't deal with amateurs, go to a professional. This place is run more like a bunch of buddies that ride and want to be able to buy stuff at a discount. So they opened a bike shop. They do a bit of work on the side and sell a few bikes and parts to people that don't really know any better, like me. Then they can buy their parts and bikes and head out to the trails. I have seen several motorcycle shops like this in my years. NEVER Again boys. I have shredded my shirts as well and removed their sticker from the bike. I'll be damned if I'm going to do any advertising for them. Now I know that they will care less about this bad review, but face it, I did not write it for them. I wrote this review for you. So good luck if you do have any business with them. read more

Great shop! I came in in desperation after I had gotten my 3rd flat in a week. I explained to the gentleman what had happened, he investigated to problem and informed me what it was and how to prevent it in the future; he even corrected my handle bars for me! After it was all said and done, he inflated both tires, gave me some education on how often to inflate and how much. Not to mention the bill was a wonderful sight. If you have a few extra dollars and can get off campus, come here - I won't waste my time the Reitz shop again. read more

They dont judge you because you dont ride fixed gear, or because youre not trying to be lance. Plus they have a great selection of bicycles. So I went here after having a bad experience at the first bike shop place. Right off the bat I realized that the people running the store were no older then I was. It was two guys and one of them was decked out in his cycling attire (hat included). Immediately I was greeted and after a couple of minutes of browsing was asked if I needed help. The guy really listened to me and understood exactly what I wanted. I wanted a cruiser body with rims but I wanted the bike to be able to tackle hard terrain and not just look pretty. He thought for a second and showed me a pink Breezer, it has seven speeds and basically does anything a mountain bike can do. It was exactly what I had asked for. Because I'm 5ft he had to pull the x-small frame he had on display down and gave it to me to ride around on. I fell in love! Shifting was easy, the ride was smooth and comfortable. The price tag was $479.00 and so I asked him if I could leave a deposit and pay it off by the end of the month. He said yes and took the bike to back and reserved it for me. Two weeks later I came back to pay off the bike, when you buy a bike from them they will tune it up for free for a year from the purchase. I love my bike, I've been on grass, bike trails, up hills and just down the street to the local smoothie place with a friend and his bike as well and it rides amazing! My friend has a mountain bike so he really likes cutting through grass and stuff when we ride and my bike doesn't let me down but what I really like is I don't even feel it! My bike is totally a reflections of my personality, it's pretty on the outside but strong and rugged on the inside :) Thanks Super Cool Bike Shop! read more

My wife and I recently visited this shop and were disappointed. The salesperson seemed to not be interested in making two sales of high end mountain bikes. They didn't have my wife's size in ANYTHING, and didn't find that as a problem. We went and spent our money elsewhere. Super cool was super friendly but fell flat when I needed them most. I did not have time to do some tuning before a 200+ mile race out west so I brought my bike to super cool. I have been racing the road bike for 10 years and have had no major problems during that time. It was again time for a tune up and new chain. I have both SRAM and Campy components which are not a perfect match but I have been riding for years without much problem. Soooo, I asked that if shifting needed adjusting, better than what it was, that's fine but make at least the climbing gears to be smooth. Well, on the first climb chain goes into the spokes ! Nice job. No spokes broken. A quick fall over to stop pedaling and put the chain back in place. From then on most gears either click, click, click and then jump down. Next climb again, into spokes, stop, get off, fix, start again. Stop using climbing gear all together. All these did not effect the outcome but certainly was one the most annoying 12+ hours in the saddle with the skipping, jumping and clicking. Yes, there is a 30 day guarantee but the race is done and I have the time to do it right and I will not be going back to Super Cool. read more

Having been out of bicycling for a long time, I went to Super Cool to get a new mountain bike several months ago. The associate I spoke with (I believe his name was Alex) was very helpful in answering all of my questions and assisting me. He made it a point to not try and oversell me a bike that I didn't need, and was as down to earth as I could have imagined. After getting a new Specialized Rockhopper and riding for several months, I brought it in for a tuneup and to fix a deflated rear tire. The repair for the new tube was fair (around $15) and the tuneup was free, as all tuneups are for the first year there. When I picked up my bike I had several more miscellaneous questions for the staff, and again, I was treated kindly and all of my questions were answered thoroughly. My only negative was it took over a week to get my bike back when I had initially been told a day or two, but not to worry, I'll be back. read more

I've been a serious rider (recreational, tourist) in Gainesville since 1972 and I have seen a lot of shops come and go. What characterized far too many of these shops (not all but perhaps most) was a certain arrogance and unfriendliness, often coupled with competence that did not match the arrogance. Lot's of places quickly left you with the feeling that they were doing you a favor to help you. Most but not all of these places are gone now. Super Cool seems to be an exception, at least based on six or seven visits over the last few years. I have never had a bad experience there -- the worst that has happened is that they have been really busy on occasion and I had to wait for help. Nothing wrong with that, its a sign of a successful business. The people there, who are much younger than I am, are universally friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. My observations are that they treat everyone that way -- very well -- not just older folk like me (most of the clientele is young). Do they know everything? -- of course not. But I know a lot about bicycles and fixing them and they certainly know their stuff as well as anyone I have encountered in the Gainesville scene. And it means a lot to me to be treated with respect and not rudely by some 20 something year old racer or angry old shop owner. Most recently, I decided to get my old Klein road bike painted and to replace the entire set of components with an Ultegra group. I was out of town part of the time and left the bike with them. They flawlessly handled the breakdown of the old bike, noticed a number of problems and immediately consulted with me about them, suggested a number of excellent fixes, and then sent the frame off to my painter. When it came back, they had it ready to go, perfectly tuned within a day or so. I don't want to get into the complications that came up, but they more than demonstrated their expertise in terms of knowing the best fixes and in terms of being excellent mechanics. I expect that this would extend to other areas of the business. Convenience always has something to do with the bike shop you select but certainly if you live on the west side of town, you should check this place out. I think you will conclude that it is worth the trip. The atmosphere is great, they are enthusiastic and energetic and they are very competent. read more
