There's constant turnover in management -- and the most recent changes have only made things worse. The current manager creates a really tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. He's passive-aggressive and not easy to communicate with, which seems to affect both staff morale and the energy in the building overall. There are also ongoing issues that members constantly complain about -- from broken equipment to cleanliness concerns -- and nothing ever seems to get fixed. It's frustrating to see the same problems brought up again and again with no real action. Things are often just brushed under the rug until the next manager rolls in... and the cycle repeats. If you're looking for a gym where the environment feels positive, consistent, and well-managed, I would recommend checking out other locations or different fitness centers altogether.

I'm usually in and out without having to wait for equipment, and even when I do, the wait is short. The overall atmosphere is friendly-- as everyone relatively shares the same goals, and are consistently respectful. While I don't remember everyone's names, the two Tristans I often encounter always go above and beyond to help me, answer my inquiries, and they always leave me with a smile on my face. I frequent a couple other PFs throughout the year, but I'm happy to say this one, I can call home.

I switched from Gold's gym to this one because of their kids play area. The problem is that they mix kids of all ages together. I do like that there is always sanitizer available and paper towels. After years of trying to work out on my own and facing health issues, I made the commitment to join a gym and take my health journey serious. Raise the Bar fits my need and my schedule. In one year, I've lost weight, gain muscle strength, flexibility, learn how to maintain my current weight, and have done workout I taught were impossible to do at my age, but what made the experience so incredible were the coaches (Jenny, Michele, Samantha, Melissa, Mo and James) I walked in half asleep (4:45 am class) and walked out with a smile. The instructor was incredible--she explained everything clearly and demonstrated each exercise before we began. Throughout the class, she corrected our form and kept us motivated to push through every rep. The whole facility is very clean and nice, and it's affiliated with GMU. People from Mason were practicing things like color guard in some of the spaces. The rec center also looks like the run a daycare for parents who work out, so you might want to check it out if you live in PWC. The cost was $10 for adults and $7 for kids. It's the same for those inside and outside of the county. The pool area features: -a big lap pool -a "beach" going in to the leisure pool -splash buckets that topple over! -a "lazy channel"--a very miniature lazy river. It goes pretty slow. Too lazy for us! -a hot tub -a whirlpool section with jets that push you around in a circle! This was my daughter's favorite part! -a very fun looking slide with twists and turns. Must be 48 inches to ride, but it wasn't on today anyway. Not a bad plan B on a cold January day :)
