Tonight I finished my holiday shopping for my niece and picked up a couple of beautiful gifts. The kids section contains high-quality merchandise. My hubby was literally double-parked outside, and I thought I could just run in and out, but no way. I wanted to buy the entire collection! From adorable natural cotton baby clothes to books, to stuffed animals, to toys, you will not leave empty-handed. They have something for every budget, and I think the prices are spot on for the quality. I truly admit to being completely obsessed with an adorable owl stuffed animal. Sooooo cute! Now, the best part about this store? Well, aside from the well-curated merchandise, is the owner. She's a total sweetheart and helped me pick out the perfect gift. She also gift-wrapped it in a super cute burlap bag with my choice of tissue color and a tie. Thank you...thank you. I'm so happy to see that this store is around. I need to stop in more often. Of course, not just for baby gifts, because they have grown-up goodies and cards too. Run, don't walk to this store. You won't be disappointed. Plus, it's super cute inside.

I haven't done much shopping in town since Shirise closed their doors earlier this year (RIP), but it's fabulous to have a store where you can quickly pop in for a housewarming gift or just a little something for visiting a new baby. In the few weeks BlackSheep has been open I've stopped in twice to purchase: a) a lovely candle for the host of dinner during the jewish holidays b) a lovey for a new baby visit (the "real" gift wasn't ready quite yet) And of course I can't forget the few times my pre-schooler has dragged me in there for "just a few pieces of candy." The diversity of flavors is amazing--I especially loved the Buckeye Blitz and Coconut Chocolate, with Smores as a runner up. While the ice cream is outstanding, the experiences had downsides. Some of the younger people working there seemed unhappy to be there. On the customer side, uncontrolled kids, parents sharing a single cone, and people cutting in line--sometimes even around elderly patrons using walkers--made the visit a bit stressful. Despite these issues, I would return any day I'm in the area; the ice cream is worth it. For those unfamiliar, Graeter's is a regional chain, so there may be locations near you, and they also offer shipping. The shop has convenient off-street parking, which is a nice bonus. Overall, a top-notch ice cream experience tempered by some service and crowd frustrations. For this store, I ask that you put up ceremony velvet rope type of things across the entire bar past the checkout so people have to stay in line within a space and can't cut it. Maybe the parents will manage their kids this way (plenty of table space folks). Graeter's is trying to provide an upscale experience. The people need to act like they have some class.

I wanted…read morefestive, affordable decorations for my daughter's kiddush following her bat mitzvah service so reached out to them to see if they could do a balloon arch and balloon centerpieces. Lilia was super responsive and within a day even sent me perfect samples of what the centerpieces would look like. We decided we would add cards to each centerpiece with QR codes that described my daughter's mitzvah project so I dropped them off in their adorable store in Winnetka beforehand. The arch was set up on Friday so we were able to use it for our Friday night dinner and Sat festivities...and then she dropped off the centerpieces on Saturday. When I walked into the room it was super bright and festive, which was exactly what we were going for. I've learned thru my years of party planning there are many options when it comes to balloons, but Bashy Bash is fairly prices, reliable and does a great job. Plus it's nice that they have a storefront for those who want to go figure out their balloon options in person.

Three years ago I would have been shocked if someone told shopaholic me that I'd enjoy shopping for my kids way more than myself, but it's true. I skipped the cute women's clothing and made my way towards the back of the store to check out the cute little onesies, tutus, etc for my little ones. I just so happened to be here during the Winnetka Sidewalk Sale so I got some fab deals on kicky pants PJs and other cute outfits for my son. I didn't have as much luck for my daughter, but next time we're in need for a tutu we'll be headed here. If you stop in on the 363 days the Winnetka Sidewalk Sale isn't happening it can be a bit pricey, but definitely worth checking out for the kids. And perhaps even yourself.
